Cute and funny story, incredible soundtrack, and satisfying game mechanics.
great game
Potato batteries taken to illogical extremes
TL;DR: Dear Dev, please fix the pacing of this otherwise lovely game.
Pacing: 2/10
Visuals: 8/10
Audio: 9/10
Creativity: 8/10 (esp. endgame)
Devs smoking weed: 12/10
The pacing of this game is criminally poor. I played the first 2 hours of the game without an auto-clicker. Initially, you'll be positively surprised by the amazing audio and visual design, a delight amongst indie games.
However, you'll soon be left disappointed by the incredibly slow pace of progression. At some points (unless I did something wrong), you can multiply your passive income by up to 4x by actively interacting with the game, clicking in one spot, incessantly. By doing this, you can bring UP the pace to what would be described in other Idler/Clicker games as "Really Slow". If you were to instead, walk away from your keyboard for a while, you'll be rewarded with an incredibly insignificant amount of progress. Additionally, you can often get upgrades for earlier generators, like the solar panels, etc. But their value vastly pales in comparison to the more costly things you can afford. It's often worth waiting and saving up for 1x "Tier 4" item, because it provides 6x wattage, but costs only 3x as much as a "Tier 3" item for example. This is the case for Almost every item in the game. (Other idlers may have further upgrades when you have 10x, 20x, 50x or 100x of an item, to make them relevant again. Here, although the price keeps climbing quite rapidly, the value provided is stagnant and will often amount to about 0.1% of your generation later in the game) This takes away a lot of agency of should I invest in this or that? No, just save up and buy the most expensive thing 10 times until the next thing shows up. Plus you're 100% occupied with clicking if you want to make any stable progress.
After my first session, I was going to drop the game. However, I saw people praising the ending in the reviews of the game. As I thought I was close, I reluctantly installed an auto clicker to help finish the game.
Even with an auto-clicker it takes ages to feel progression in the game (midgame, ~10-300 millions of wattage). I held on and reached, let's say an unexpected "phase 2" of the game. It was clear that this phase 2 and the ending of the game received a LOT more love and creative expression than the early game. Some items also had a fixed wattage price, which meant that my newly acquired auto-clicker could help wreck havoc on the later balance of the game, going from "Really Slow" to "Moderately Fast". A good change of pace. The balance of this late game was still iffy, but with an auto-clicker, it was doable to finish out the game swiftly and cleanly in an hour or so of more gameplay.
Verdict: WOULD RECOMMEND (Conditionally)
Dev should fix pace of early/mid game (first two hours of play), if they do, it would definitely be worth your money AND time. Right now, it's only worth your money on sale. For those who persevere, use an auto clicker or get to enjoy a revised version of the game, a good game with a lovely and creative ending awaits you. And whoever made this game was DEFINITELY smoking weed. If not, I suggest seeking medical assistance.
Mechanically it's pretty simple, a very standard clicker game. Personally I recommend an auto-clicker for this game, just to keep pacing going at a solid rate and also to save your hands from carpal tunnel.
However this game is a masterclass in presentation. I've played tons of incremental/idle games by now and this one was fantastic from start to finish. It's not a completely flawless game, the settings could offer a bit more and one segment of the gameplay is finicky, but the overall experience was so well-done, very polished, creative, and had a lot of care put into it. I'd like to personally thank the developer for creating this game.
Fire game
Absolutely loved it. Great music. Great art style. Effective clicker-er gameplay.
Also sounds wierd, but i like that it had an ending.
Nice idle game, funny story, amazing music.
If you liked 2001: A Space Odyssey play this game. It's an art show hidden behind a progression game, and well worth the price of admission. Loved playing it, and the potatoes were super cute!
Took about 5 hours to beat.
potato
It's Gouda
what is this game?
excellent soundtrack by the way.
the ending was nice.
As soon as I realized this was a Devolver Digital joint I knew what I would be in for -- a beautiful soundtrack and some stylish UI. Oh yeah, I guess there's a game in there, but that's not a priority, this is a Devolver Digital joint! So what if this is about as basic and dull a clicker as you can -- there's the word "potato" a bunch and it has a soundtrack!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In short, my review of Spaceplan: The Game is that it is a great soundtrack.
You can't lose, but it scratches a specific itch for upgrading things efficiently. The aesthetic is cool, and I gotta say the music is right up my alley. Won't last you long, but nice while you're playing. Picked it up for $1 on a steam sale and was a good decision.
I like it
people play some weird and stupid idle clicker games named after various fruits, while this gem still exists... smh my head
Great story
Great gameplay
Get SPACEPLAN. Get it now.
I didn't hate it, but not as good as other subversive games in the genre like universal paperclips. Over all it was a bit boring
A fun short idler with the use of potatoes, 7/10
This game gave me life, and made my life 100 times better. This was just drugs
underground goat of idle games
It's good, much more idle for a clicker game than I was expecting/hoping.
Hoped it would be similar to To The Core or Node Buster, but it's still fun
this game is an EXPERIENCE
Fun
Originally I had a negative review because of the Neptune level. But after seeing the ending it was all worth it. Def recommend.
Absolutely fantastic. You can tell how much love and thought was put into this, and it was such a pleasure to play!!! If you have 3 bucks, I highly recommend buying this instead of a bag of chips or something.
Damn, this was great... Soundtrack is on point
I feel like this game is a hidden gem. It's a clicker/idler that has a story and an amazing sound track to back it up. This isn't some endless, mindless, number grower. This is an idle game that takes you on a little journey, and personally I love that. I beat this game years ago, and I just beat it again now that its gotten updated. I feel like i may continue to come back to this game every now and then, just for the visuals and sound design.
Charming, with good music, very easy to just chill and vibe to. I've played it through twice now.
Music alone was worth the price. Very short but sweet enough that I enjoyed my time.
A fun, digestible clicker game with some humorous writing/theming and clean aesthetics. Well worth the 3$.
potatoes
I've played this game through several times now, and most of the time, it pulled me in so deep I played it through in one session. This game is a clicker that has a story that draws you in with mystery, humor (although if you detest puns you might not like it), and existentialism. Don't get discouraged by what might seem like some repetition in the beginning, it's worth it later.
.
Great fun short incremental game
Very good, albeit very short. Was expecting more content to be honest.
yes
Nice, fun and good OST.
The game has only got one joke. You either find "potato" funny, or you don't.
That's it. That's the game.
The ending has no business being as good as it is...
This game is amazing, and this review is long over due. It's shorter for an idle game, it's just numbers and progression, it isn't overly deep or anything, but it's a cute little story, and the soundtrack and end alone is worth it.
This was super satisfying. I played this after getting addicted to cookie clicker and I felt that the pacing here was really well done and thought out. I also loved the existential premise. Glad it had an ending. Very fun and well done!
Numbers go up but not in a way I found satisfying. After my first prestige I found myself at a loss as what to do.
a really mediocre clicker game all around. the most barebones gameplay imaginable, paired with an equally bland story trying way too hard to be funny (it isn't). the presentation is nice but beyond that there's really nothing worth anyone's time here even for a few bucks.
It is a fun and original clicker game.
Meh.
I expected more.
I enjoyed some of the aesthetics, but that's about it.
The game is extremely shallow for an idle game - it's just buy more things to get more points. Nothing more.
This is pretty much as basic as it gets.
Meanwhile the "plot" makes next to no sense and the humor is often based on constant "I am very random" moments (Wow, the planet is populated by potato people lololololol).
There are some dexterity-based segments towards the end, but those are also trivial.
They boil down to "press this single button at the right moment" over and over again.
Now, I don't want to hate on the game too much, because it was made by a single guy, and it isn't THAT bad.
It's just that it isn't good either.
Except for the soundtrack - that was surprisingly good compared to everything else.
So, for around 3 euros, it's okay.
I wouldn't recommend it though.
Couple bucks and an auto clicker, great way to kill 5 hours. Sound track 10/10
Awesome clicker that I bought on mi phone a handful of years back, played it again when that update came out and its really quite great no matter the platform
An average incremental clicker elevated to high azimuths by an icy cool soundtrack and an equally cool story inspired by Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Stanislaw Lem's Novels and humanity.
This game is like, better Cookie Clicker but with a story and stuff idk, its super awesome and I loved playing it. The visual are simple yet cool and I WANNA PLAY MORE RELEASE MORE
