Brilliant, re living my childhood with this game, truly an epic RTS game with a huge scale. shows its age nowadays but is still a ton of fun to play and a great throwback, and works fine on my computer with windows 10 so dont know why people are having issues. Highly recommended!
Thank God for Sudden Strike 4, because this game is a fucking atrocity.

Sadly these games have got prettier to look at as they have gone on but actual game play has fallen with each new game.
The original was fun, quick to learn the basics and I have spent hundreds if not thousands of hours on that game both single player and multiplayer and loved it, this one has just not got that magic game play of the original.
If better graphics and sounds is your thing try this but for a more enjoyable game try the original it knocks spots off this.
Although the screen shots make it look like you're preforming sweeping Blitzkrieg Tactics, normal play is slow and tedious. Scouting, sniping, and arty skills are required to have a high scoring game. Methodical slow step by step advances are what works. You rush, you die.
Batus Mod is a must. Google it. Easy self-installer.
Things I didn't like
1- Can't change the hotkeys, especially the scroll and pause. Game has screen edge scrolling.
2- Same AI as SS1+2, however, more detailed maps make AI navigation ridiculous. Micro manage every units movement-all the time.
3- Broke difficulty, literally cant play some missions on medium or hard, enemy out-spots you by 70+feet, forcing you to blind fire everything in front of you before moving in......you will run out of ammo.
But I consider this STILL a great game to play. I like the graphics in 4k. Lots of rare vehicles other games don't offer. Tactical changes in battle are do-able. Pause often, think wisely, don't waste units......very few time restrictions so take your time. Play on easy. Use Batus Mod. Learn how to scout. Tanks are precious, don't lead with them, not even scout cars, they will die. Move infantry slowly up, spot, shoot with tanks from far away. Tank can fire the entire length of the map.
While not a perfect game (pathfinding may be the biggest weakness), Sudden Strike 3 works best when the battles are intense and filled with huge numbers of units. Sudden Strike 3 was one of the last true strategy/tactical games that removed all limits the numbers of units and the extent of the destruction to the battlefield to create diabolical and limitless battles. It is a game where your statistics will tell you that you killed 10,000 enemy troops by the time the battle ends, and few games can say the same. Sudden Strike 3 has respectable levels of detail on the vehicles and artillery units, and it is also very easy to mod, although it has only a very tiny community behind it who appreciate the game for what it can be. While the multiplayer seems to be broken for most people, some VPNs make it possible for others. Another great strength of the game is that it isn't FPS locked, meaning it can run as smoothly as your system will allow and with a practically unlimited frame rate (and as it came out in 2007, it is not hard to have a computer that runs the game very smoothly even with massive numbers of vehicles and soldiers on screen). You just might have to alter your Nvidia control panel settings to get to the best performance. The game goes for realism in terms of unit vulnerabilities to damage/disablement and lines of sight, but sacrifices some of the realism for greatly diminished weapon ranges and visibility limits to keep the combat manageable and cinematic on your screen. If you want World War Two at its most diabolical, with thousands of casualties, deadly ambushes, and cities shattered to rubble and covered with craters because of your actions, this is the game for you.

The game of my childhood, it really deserves your attention if you are a fan of some strategies, or even just for the development of thinking. Thinking about next steps. Logic game. I am silent about the graphics because for its year it is very personal! Good game.
Just bought this game to feel the good old day playing it years ago when im still in highschool. its still good for me at least
as far as an rts in my opinion that how rts should look like , i wish i go modifie it bring it to perfection,it has what i look in rets ,proper hills relistic hill s ,bullet trigectories big map batalion size batlles ....this game is best in my opinion i wish it wouldve made it....and drvs could keep working on it....

- Annoying enemies from the tunnels at Iwo Jima Invasion. They just pop up on great numbers and strong units.
- Sometimes the A.I. of the game is clunky or not going to the exact place you want them to be.
Note: For those who are playing this game on Windows 10, make sure to activate "Direct Play" on your PC's settings before opening the game.
It could be found by searching "Turn Windows feature on or off" on the Window's search bar and check the "Direct Play" box. If you did not activate this the game will "Crash" every time you attempt to open it.

Poor 3D graphics. Even if I only compare it with other games of the same period, it still looks pretty outdated.
Another thing that's ruining the game experience is its horrible unit control. Particularly that stupid AI movement option, which is left ON by default all the time, will send your unit everywhere like headless flies and let them die for no real good, or put your unit in buildings and make it take years before you can find the unit that you need. In addition, when you give a order to your units, instead of executing it immediately, your units will be literally "shocked" for one moment, frozen at where they are, being unable to move anyways, which is just ridiculous.
Also the path finding, it's even worse than its predecessors. At least in the previous titles, even if there's a problem with the path finding that your units may not be able to get where you want them to be via an optimal route, they will still get there finally as long as there's a valid path. In this game, you will constantly see your unit stuck at the edge of cliffs, by the side of river, or even between buildings, while the real "path" is just right next to them. In short, your units are not even capable of moving "straight", literally.
There's all sort of other small things that are making this game even worse. Poorly designed tutorial, awkward mechanism of armor, etc. etc. Anyway, if you really like Sudden Strike series, just stick to 1 and 2.

I enjoyed previous Sudden Strike offerings but SS3 is a sloppy affair. It has a rushed feeling. Maps aren't accurate, missions seem poorly designed. Would not recommend.

nice game in the SuddenStrike family. This AI stuff is an unnecessary irritation, but at the time the game was made, everybody liked it (not me), And, God loves the infantry, I was believing, but not in this game. Compared to version 1, 2 and 4. Especially snipers are quite useless.
It is a bit a cheap trick, to let the the same squad pop up from nowhere again and again in an enemy attack. No chance to clean my backyard before. I did some map design myself and purchasers should deserve better in the single player mission. But nevertheless an old but still nice game, which fits fine into the idea of SuddenStrike ;).
very unrealsitic... It take more than 20 hits of a Tiger Tank to disable a russian Tank, funny is, a russian tank can disable a german Tiger or Jagdtiger with 1 or 2 hits,
disliked multiplayer mod not working cannot find servers or players
omg, i cant believe i almost never bought this game with all the bad reviews, works perfectly on windows10 with an nvidia 1920x1080 resolution. is like a real war going on in this one, unlike the avarege sudden strike 4 you cant just group all your troops together and throw them at the enemy for victory, you gotta plan your attack. all the bad reviews must be coming from console players which this game is not ment for, if your a console player sudden strike 4 will be better suited for you, i read it has full gamepad support.
Heck, I love this game. Bored shooting enemies easily? Bored winning game with no difficult? If so, this game is right for you. SS3 is very hardcore. You have to control huge number of units in a very vast area with many fronts. You will be depressed seing your units being crushed by enemy tanks and your tanks can't do anything because you're outnumbered and lack reinforcement. Very hardcore strategy game.

Meh. Bought it for six bucks, got six hours of play, so eh. Its WWII, its RTS without any control which units you recieve, how many, when, from where. Oh, reinforcements have arived? Where are they? What are they? Let me scan the entire battlefield for units that might be mine, that I havent seen on the battlefield yet.
Pretty terrible GUI, or lack thereof - has a few useful screens, but mostly you control the battle by mouse-boxing over the map to see which units you control. Looks prettier on the Steam store page than reality. Fixed scenarios. I think there's even an escort mission.
I dont hate it, but there are a lot better examples of the genre. Buy it if you've got six bucks and are really bored.
A lot of reviewers have rightfully dinged the game not running under Win 10 x64. If the game is going to be marketed to an audience with modern computers, it should be able to run without excuses about it being old. My problems were resolved by opening the Add/Remove Programs applet, selecting Windows Features, and enabling Legacy Components / Direct Play.
Sudden Strike’s biggest problem is that it is an old game with old game problems. Path finding is horrible, with units often taking the long way around obstacles and exposing themselves to plenty of enemy fire. Tanks bump into each other, and often advance backwards with their weakest face to the enemy. Supply vehicles collide like keystone kops, get confused, and stop resupplying.
You’re often are presented with large maps with a lot of units to start with, but it’s never explained that you need to take the objectives in the order listed, or you don’t get reinforcements. The enemy troops mostly sit in defensive positions with artillery, and do a remarkable job of killing a lot of your units before they are winkled out of their foxholes. They receive a seemingly endless supply of Tiger and Panther tanks that are ridiculously hard to kill.
In the face of strong German armor and endless troops, you have limited reinforcements that are doled out as you capture objectives. Reinforcements consist of weak armored vehicles and infantry easily mowed down by dug-in defenders. When a group of new troops hit the beach, it’s like being given a $20 bill in a casino and being told to make it last for an hour.
The AI is the worst part of the game. In the D-Day mission, you have British allies controlled by the AI that will try to shoot through your American tanks and halftracks if they get between them and their German targets. As far as the enemy AI is concerned, it is utterly atrocious and the developers have compensated by having it cheat shamelessly, giving it endless waves of reinforcements.
The campaign missions go on WAY TOO LONG and cease to be fun, becoming tedious and boring. A good game should never stop being fun and become work.
I thought Men of War / Assault Squad 2 (another game in the same genre) was ridiculous in the way it sent so many AI German troops charging into Allied guns in the first mission, but that game is a jewel by comparison. Buy that instead.
Great, so happy to get this "alltime-best-ww2-strategic"-game on steam. No problem on Win10. The problem seems to be solved. Load and install the Batus-Mod 2.3 and you will have one of the best ww2-games
