Following a bizarre cataclysmic event that cracked the moon in half, the Earth is struggling with the environmental fallout. Everything is already dead or dying... except you. Or so you think. Don't Escape: 4 Days to Survive is a post-apocalyptic thriller from veteran developer Scriptwelder, creator of the popular horror series Deep Sleep and Don't Escape. Players must figure out a way to properly fortify their home against each night's new danger, as they learn the truth behind the apocalypse and search for a way to safety, if one exists.
Players will journey alongside David, a lone survivor after the end of the world, who finds himself having prophetic dreams... or nightmares. Each chapter of the game has multiple potential variations to encounter, from poisonous fog or spiders to a gang of murderous thugs or a deadly heat wave, and as a result, you'll need to adjust your strategy on different playthroughs. But you don't have forever. Certain actions advance the in-game clock, and you'll need to complete your preparations to (hopefully) stay alive before night falls.
Will you make it through all four days? Will your companions?
Features:
- A classic pixelart aesthetic and creepy atmosphere from a veteran of horror and thrillers.
- Logical puzzles and exploration to challenge players without frustrating them.
- Time mechanics; certain actions advance the clock in a race against time.
- A post-apocalyptic thriller, with an engaging storyline and cast.
- Moody and engrossing original musicial score.
- Multiple variations for each chapter mean multiple playthroughs with new content.
About the Developer:
Poland-based developer Scriptwelder is a well known creator of creepy web-based games, perhaps the most iconic of which is the Deep Sleep series, which has won multiple awards and been played by millions all around the world. The Don't Escape series began as a web game that inverted the classic escape-the-room formula... rather than trying to find a way out, players were instead trying to find a way to secure themselves within, usually from some sort of threat or danger. Don't Escape: 4 Days to Survive is his first full length premium game.

It's an extremely fun game and a really good standalone sequel of the first 3, allowing you to complete each day in different ways, where each day is different from eachother but still parallel is someway, the story is really intriguing and makes you want to know about what's behind the whole lore
As all other Scriptwelder's game, a really well thought out point-and-click game: Very good progression, I got stuck a lot less compared to other point-and-click escape game. Also really good story (the letter by Cate made me cried) and good replayablilty.
:)
Best game by scriptwelder, and that's saying A LOT. So much work went into this. A real old-school adventure game but with insane replayability.
This is the greatest dont escape 4 of all time
Awesome little point and click adventure that requires you to consider your actions.
First finished this way back when it was a Flash game. Replayed it again now. The game is like comfort food for me. It just does time loop so well in its story, and the lore building in its day was groundbreaking for a webgame. Thanks to the retro pixel graphics, it absolutely still holds up today as a great 2D point-and-click. I just hope that scriptwelder's upcoming game lives up to the (multi)verse he's set up in this one.
This game was great. I've played all of Scriptwelder's previous titles of Don't Escape, and even A Small Talk At The Back of Beyond, but this one takes the cake. The attention to detail that went into this shouldn't be overlooked. This is the kind of game I support.
Love this game! fascinating concept and story.
one of the best point and click games i have played. The story was interesting and the puzzles were fun to solve. This game is definitely worth your money.
This is a great finale to the Dont Escape series of games. Its the hardest, longest, and juiciest out of the series, both as a game and if it were a man.
a really fun game
Wondeful Game. Hope to see these characters return in Deep Sleep 4!
Point & click at it's peak
deserves more love lowk
Great for replaying. Def worth the cash, especially if you are a Scriptwelder fan
Nice puzzle/adventure game that kept me interested throughout all three playthroughs.
Up there as one of the best point and click games I've played in years.
Game so nice I played it twice.
My entire review in one word: YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Awesome game with a thrilling story. Great for several hours of play, plus some replay value.
If you're a fan of the Don't Escape and Deep Sleep series you'll love this one. Went into it blind and it took me 10 hours to play it from start to finish.
Features:
- Amazing OST
- A different disaster every night, each requiring a different setup and strategy to overcome. Night disasters change from playthrough to playthrough, which adds a layer of replayability value.
- Secret ending(s) (?)
- Friendlies that will join you in your quest if you help them.
If you're a fan of Scriptwelder's work you know what you're getting into. It's a point-and-click adventure game in which you'll have to employ logical reasoning, curiosity and common sense to succeed. Play it. You won't regret it.
best visual novel series out there.
creepy...
I love the story and setting, the moon and how it slowly gets bigger each day, the landscapes, everything. It really is an amazing game, with an awesome storyline and plot twists.
A fun little game, makes you think and all. Nice puzzles too.
Loved it. Simple!
Story is not that memorable, puzzles are boring, and the music gets annoying on second run. There are much better games in the genre.
Excellent game. Play it.
This is one of the best point-and-click adventure games I've ever had the pleasure of playing.
The story is good, and here's something I've never seen before:
There is an in-game story-relevant reason to go back through and re-play the game after beating it, and the puzzles are different.
I will probably buy every game PixelWelder makes for as long as he makes games. He should be proud of putting a game this good out into the world.
All of his Flash-based "Don't Escape" games were good, and I hope he releases them on Steam for those who want to have a chance to see them.
Beautiful and complex.
This is the best don't escape game by far. It has great characters and great storytelling. Each day has a unique survival threat that you will need to prepare to defend against. Will you escape?
Super replayable. This game makes you learn to be efficient with nearly inexpendable time.
cool
Scriptwelder has always made quality Point-and-Click games, this one is his best one yet. If you liked the old flash puzzle games, this is an expansion of that idea with some great writing.
A great send off for the script welder game series don't escape combining all the games into one experience, linking the three previous don't escape games and the deep sleep trilogy with references and lore making a great homage to this game series, with a phenomenal ending wrapping up everything the characters, the lore from all the previous games it is a respectful finish to the amazing don't escape game series that I loved as a child back when flash was still alive.
trdhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhtttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhrtttttttttttttttttttttthtrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhtrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhrhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhttttttttttrthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I genuinely learned how to be human from this game thats how life changing it is
anything made by scriptwelder fucking slaps!
I love the puzzles and I wish it was longer!
I have nothing to say, just play it, is worth it
Loved this, something different from the usual point and click adventure. Great story / writing / puzzles. Can sometimes come down to trial and error but well worth it if you enjoy this style of game.
i wish i could fix that stupid bridge >:(
edit: okay i can fix the bridge. 10/10
This game is goated, dude.
I've been saving this game for years. Played the flash games way back. Can't wait for the new Deep Sleep haha
well, nothing better than a game about exploration, survival, and strategy game.
truly a wonderful game giving you a wonderful experience, with its amazing story, and being really entertaining, shoutout to the developers and very highly recommended, thanks for reading
Without question one of the best point-and-click adventure games I've ever played. I just played all of the Don't Escape games back-to-back for the first time this week, and while they were all good, the relationship between [game number] and [complexity and quality] appears to be exponential. Don't Escape 3 was a great little game. Don't Escape 4 is an amazing, sizable game.
It's a point & click adventure game for people who don't necessarily like point & click games. It solves many issues that are usually annoying:
- items/tools can be used as many times as you want, they don't (almost never) magically break after single use
- many tools can be used for the same purpose, as long as it makes sense
- it's rather clear what you can pick up and use, what are the interaction areas and if they can be used to progress the game or not
- getting around is quick & easy, as is inventory management (however ideally you could run up to an interaction element when using an item on it; instead you need to run up there first and then use an item)
This design does much to eliminate the frustration of looking for non-obvious solutions that the creators designed, but you need to guess. There's no "combine banana with a toothbrush" type solutions. There's still some of the "it wouldn't work" while trying to do something you're absolutely certain would work - I wish there were more contextual hints in those scenarios. There's also few seemingly obvious dialogue options missing at times to ask for help, and the one area to progress the ending is a one probably easiest to miss of all. Overall however it's a very pleasant game to play, despite being point & click adventure game.
It also has an innovative approach where the challenges you face can be different each playthrough, meaning some items and interaction elements will not be useful or meaningful for your game. I liked it, since the world doesn't seem a like puzzle crafted to suit your specific needs, it seems more like a real place with items and objects that are there cause it makes sense for them to be there. It's a better trade-off, where the solutions are more down to earth, but not all items are useful. Repeatability is reasonably high thanks to that, and while I wish the game was more aware of the second playthrough, I found it mostly pleasant.
The story is surprisingly good. Not everything makes total sense, but it mostly maintains the suspension of disbelief, it's interesting and surprising in scale. One big weird choice for me was that Cate simultaneously is a low level, need-to-know basis employee, however at the same time has a deep knowledge of the very details of the deepest secrets of the company at the end. All you'd need to do was to have like a dying scientist in the final location, who explains these details. There's even a set up for it in Lab 13, but it goes nowhere.. Another example of a weird thing that's quite visible is - why the other people outside our team in subsequent days don't seem to be suffering from the extreme nightly dangers we barely survive, despite our careful preparation and a good shelter they lack? The dialogues also can be rough around the edges, but they are okay. I'd say they are neither a strength nor a weakness of the game.
The survival challenges are usually well designed. The one I didn't like though was the bandits. It's the least realistic and includes some weird moralistic elements of "are you that kind of a person" to poison bandits, who you'll kill later in cold blood with a sniper rifle. Then there's a deal with killing/releasing the guy who attacked you. It might be interesting if you later regretted releasing him, but you don't. It's all just a good guy cliche, cheesy and serves little purpose and just doesn't connect. Otherwise, the challenges are alright. Obviously if you're looking for scientific accuracy or everything making total sense, it's going to disappoint, but it's not unbearably naive either.
Overall, it's a very solid game that could be better in some obvious ways, but still delivers. The defects were not taking away from the experience in my view, and the story is worth it. I have a feeling the next game from that author, if matured properly, can be absolutely great.
best game
Scriptwelder is physically incapable of making a bad game.
pretty fire even in 2024
