Does not start in VR.
Does not even have such option.
I only bought playing it in VR.
Makes me wanna delete this game permanently!
Oof. Another lackluster game from ViS. I'll start with the negative stuff first to get that out of the way so I can end on a positive note(sort of). <3
The Bad:
- The voice acting is horrific and not in a good way. It sounds quite literally like a text to voice program read the script for the entire game and it was just awful. It completely ruined any sense of fear or immersion for me.
- Door and cabinet opening simulator. Since most of the progression related events are seem to be on a timer, you will find yourself killing time by opening every drawer, door, window, and cabinet you can find in the house.
- Not scary at all. The jumpscares/screamers fell completely flat for me. I wasn't afraid while I was playing this, I was mostly just aggravated because of my commitment to completing games that I start.
The Meh:
- Candles/Flashlight are useless with the in game brightness slider.
- Achievements aren't really something that I want to complete, which is unusual for me. Some of them are related to the arcade game cartridges you find around the house but they are glitchy and unfun to play.
- No Danger at all. This is normally not a big deal. I appreciate walking sims as long as they are well done.
- Pineview re-skinned. This is basically PVD but less scary and in a different house. Yay?
The Good:
- If you enjoyed the PVD games or a big fan of ViS games in general, you'll probably like this.
- I got it for 70% off. Paying full price would have been a tragedy.
That's all the good things I can say, honestly. I just really haven't been very impressed with ViS games for a long time. I keep hoping that they will do better but they seem to value Quantity over Quality. It was very difficult to find anything really good in between the graphical glitches, killing time to trigger events, and just a general feeling of a lack of any sort of effort from the Devs.
Real talk-- I don't like saying that nobody put in effort because clearly someone did... I'm just really disappointed in the consistent lack of quality with ViS games.
Buy on a big sale or not at all. The choice is yours, you sexy animals. <3
Good game. I liked it. The negative things I have heard are way too harsh.
This game looked pretty nice and ran well on PC with high settings. Much better then videos of the ps4 version I've seen, which looked bad. The story wasn't the focus but there was enough there to keep you going. The sound and sound effects were very well done and really helped build the atmosphere.
It is a scary game so the scares are important and this game did a nice job. I won't spoil it but there was a few moments that creeped me out, a few moments that made me jump, and one that flat out scared me, I play a lot of horror games so that's tough to do. They do a good job building the scary tension as time goes on.
The game is basically an adventure game style game. So whether you like those kinds of games will determine how much you like the gameplay. There were times that I just could not figure out what to do and had to look up the puzzle solution for that night. But after looking it up I thought to myself "oh ya that makes sense, I should have thought of that". The only big negative for this game is that the last half of the game the notes you need to pick up to progress the story can be really easy to miss and potentially cause you to wander around the house looking for it, even if you walked right past it earlier.
Between platforms I've seen the price be 24.99 on steam and 29.99 on ps4. As much as I think this game is underrated, it is kind of a budget game and I don't feel it's worth those prices. I got it on a steam sale for 12.49 and feel that is a much more reasonable price. So I would recommend this game as long as you like walking around while scary things happen, good scary atmosphere and solving puzzles, but only if you can get it at $15 or less
Ok, I completed the game and I should say that it wasn't bad, I mean I loved the atmosphere and the dolls, and I find clowns scary. The dolls are absolutely amasing - they are worth watching. I loved that there were many sounds through the game and the screamers for sure. I didn't like the fact that there are not enough candles in the game but too many batteries (I haven't used any). I wanted to make the house at least a little lighter but I couldn't find any candles by the end of the game. Maybe it was a special feature - I don't know. And as for the soundtrack - I absolutely hated it, I'm sorry. It would be better if there were only some kind of music without words. It ruins the impression. In general, I recommend the game.
Yes, I would recommend this game. For some bizarre reason. It's extremely goofy, it's not particularly scary, it's horribly paced and the general gameplay concept of 'wander around the house until something happens' is just... it hurts my brain.
But the house itself is gorgeous, the sound design is pretty decent and the atmosphere is, at times, thick. There are also some choices that were made here that are... well, I don't really have the words. They defy reason. I want to say what they are, as they're just little throwaway moments, but it's these moments that made the experience of playing Nightfall so memorable, and to talk about them would spoil it. Suffice to say, I was surprised on multiple occasions by some genuinely weird stuff that happened in this house.
In case you were unaware, you play someone's retarded (mentally handicapped. There, Steam, can I say that?) Mom who gets locked in her own house and doesn't know how to use windows to escape. She drinks all the soda, burns the pizza, listens to symphonic rock, drop-kicks the guitar in the music room, plays with the kids toys and video games and just generally runs around the house wreaking havoc until about four hours to dawn when the lights go out and she actually has to do something in the game. Seriously, just walk around the house opening drawers until you find notes. (Oh, and protip, don't waste the candles. Save them for the last few hours. And if you set them up and light them, blow them back out before leaving the room. They're far less plentiful than flashlight batteries and matches.)
I know it sounds boring, and for some it will be, but for anybody who's spent a lazy Saturday afternoon watching an inoffensive, nonviolent horror movie on TV (with all the gory bits cut out) and actually enjoyed the experience, this is that. It's toothless and oddly charming. I somehow put six hours into this game. It can't be all bad.
It's a good game. I personally liked pineview drive better but it was fun to play as well.
Visually the game is okay but the storyline is poor. The placement of the notes is to random. Finding the hamster you would think would lead you to a note but instead the note is in a completely random place. Spend a lot of your time wandering from room to room listen to little noises and the old door shutting. Nothing scary at all. Hopefully improves latter,
Can not recommend as not enough effort or logic given to the story.
WORST HORROR GAME EVER.
This game is terrible. It's glitchy as hell. Some sort of video tried to play in the middle of the game play. Looked like the start to a terrible porno. Then I got stuck in the kids room and there was no way out. I checked out other game plays and after a little bit the door just opened, but mine never did. I couldn't even finish this game. Even before the game messed up it still wasn't fun. All you did was run in around a big house and try to find notes. Nothing truly scary and the story line was all over.
Personally for me this game is good! i did enjoy playing it i do like the concept of them game! but the only 2 cristim i can give is there isnt any direction on where to go which isnt a bad thing its like an adventure game in a way but if you are stuck in a certain area i would like to know where to go from there but thats just me. Other people probably dont mind it, and the price i dont know what it takes to make a game but maybe it can stand to be a little cheaper.

This game is boring and i do not recoment it.
It isn't scary, no jumpscares, you cannot die only somehow miss/fail to find a way to progress ingame and spend hours wondering something that might trigger a new event.
Possibly the most unrelentingly boring game I've ever played, you have bested the Doctor Watson games and that takes a lot of work; this takes the 'explore/get nowhere/backtrack & then a random 'horror' trigger will occur and then you will need to wander around the small map again to find a note or a key which will allow you to get to a note in order to progress, sometimes you look at a clown and that will cause a note to spawn' genre to its absolute limit.
This is done in a nice way, the graphics are good, the soundtrack is quite fitting; you can pick up 'Atari 2600' carts and play them on an in-game console along with a number of 'c64' discs which seem to be just interesting visualisations programmed to accurately load in the time it used to take a C64 to load...this is really an odd couple of inclusions & it's the best part of the game. The rest of it is so uncompromisingly boring that it can't be fun.
In a forum post the Developer lists the game time as between 6-9 hours; from the notes I've written down in terms of what you actually have to do for the actual gameplay, unless I've just scratched the surface of this 'content' the game feels like it needs to be about half an hour long; but I spent more than 3 hours in this & it is nowhere near worth the price, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to see it through & then do a content% speedrun to see what the actual gameplay time is as I'm pretty sure most of the game length is confusion/boredom.
Right now though I've collected a 'Atari' cart with TheNightfall as the title (like the game you are actually in because maybe memes, this might be memes) & while it loads a start screen, it just makes the screen get a bad VHS filter overlay and not actual gameplay like the other carts; this could be a really obtuse puzzle that I haven't found yet, but basically good lord stay away from this for this price & this honestly isn't even sale bait unless it's like less than $5 and you don't respect your time.
After having finished it, the Developer was right, it was 6 hours, but I was also right in that most of that is annoyance/confusion and boredom at the sheer nonsense of it all, there seems to be no logic in the vast majority of the notes, the content doesn't lead you to anything except in about 3 cases in the probably 20 odd notes in the game.
This probably dethrones Robert Mensah's Sins Of The Father of my most hated game, abysmal from start to finish, with an ending as underwhelming as Doctor Watson and the Secret of the Catacombs or One Late Night: Deadline altough I actually like OLN:D because it is charmingly broken, this game has the disadvantage of being competently build as well as confusingly bad.
This game could get good, it could! But for 24.99, I'm not sticking around to find out. Sorry but this is a five dollar game at Maximum. Heck, I've played five dollar games better than this. What a disappointment... SAVE YOUR MONEY!
This game seems to take the build up approach in horror. There hasn't really been a major scare that I have seen yet but the atmosphere does get scarier through out the games progression. There are also some comic relief bits the game has sprinkled in there like Easter eggs. I am iffy on the price but it has good graphics and a promising horror setting. I would only recommend it if you have the money to spare I think a good price would have been $15 for this game.
But as always you can judge for yourself by watching me be stupid while playing here is a video of me playing for around half an hour condensed into 15 mins
