This game is very well made. The driving is tight, the drifting feels good and powerful, there's a wide variety of cars and racing styles, and it's fun. Unfortunately, it does not support cloud saves, and as such I do not recommend it.
I may have 11 hours in the game, but I cannot recommend it. The rubber banding is so strong that you could get out of your car, walk 99% of the race, and make sure to sprint just before the finish, and you'd still win. That also means there's 0% chance of ever having a lead over the second place, even on normal difficulty it's gonna keep up no matter how fast you drive. I beat all championships on Normal difficulty without even boosting, because the rubber band works pretty aggressively both ways. The only time where you have to try is on Expert Championships, then just take Keiko's F90 and drive well, you'll win most of the time. Also this game is ALWAYS ONLINE, and yet has no cloud saves. The map design is pretty boring, there's only so many ways you can turn a road before it gets repetative. No jumps, no dangers to avoid, no shortcuts, it actually just is differently turning roads. It's only really worth it for quick local co-op, but the game has no player base nowadays (it never really did, one month afer release the number of concurrent players dropped by 93.5%, it's just slightly worse now), so you won't even get to play online races. I'd say save your money and buy any other racing game
Do you want to play Out Run 2 and cant find it anymore? This is the game. Same developer, and I think it is the same engine. The gameplay seems the same.
I thought it was a VR game. But playing it in theater mode with a headset on is pretty close to an actual vr racing game. So for those who want this in vr, put headset on load up game in theater mode.
Well, I bought this game imagining that would be a simple game to play for 1 or 2 hours.
But it have a very good mechanic and a lot of hard achievements that prolongs the game play.
The Expert level is hard and you will not be boring playing against them. And you will need to adapt your manage style dependent on the car that you choose.

The controls are really bad and the cars drifting just sucks.
there are better arcade racing games at better price.
in a world seemingly full of great sim racers and an overwhelming number of mediocre arcade racers this game is a breath of fresh air for the more casual player. full of charm and character and a heck of a lot of fun.
The game doesn't saves your profile and you have to start all over again once you change your computer.
New Star GP + Horizon Chase + Hotshot Racing = FUN.
Get this game. Play it. And have a stupid amount of fun.
Fun and simple arcade-throwback racer. Feels nice to play. Cops and Robbers is interesting because when you are busted (or bust others) they turn into cops to help you. The barrel mode is fun too. By the time of the last lap, there are barrels EVERYWHERE. Time trial mode also has ghosts (yours and online downloadable ones) and is continuous. Thank you. I can't stand it when trial modes are 1 lap then it brings up the menu. Also: split screen multiplayer! :O
That said, it does have some flaws. The AI has very aggressive rubber-banding that can't be turned off. The voices can be annoying, but you can lower the speech volume to zero. The drive or explode mode seems broken against AI because of the rubber banding. They will never slow down and never explode. The online is dead. And the quick play online mode crashes my game.
Still a fun time. The best part is the polygons flying everywhere when your car gets damaged. Old school polygons are literally the best.
EXTREMELY fun game. limited content, no story mode or anything, but for a fun racing game to play with your friends it's unbelievably enjoyable. highly recommend 9/10
One of the best arcade racing games I've played on PC, even better with friends.

[td]I really like the aesthetic in this game. The arcade, low poly style looks really good and sharp! Also the colors are vivid and look beautiful. Car models look similar to real life cars which I thought was a cool touch. The UI and particle effects in the game also look good! The main issue is the stages. Now some stages do look pretty cool, but most of them just look and feel bland. Most of the stages don’t have any technical challenges, and most look the same (besides a few of them).[/td]

[td]The gameplay is both good and bad. I will say the driving in this game is really fun. It’s arcadey, fast paced, and has great drift physics. It’s nothing special, but just feels right. Another cool feature are the characters. Every character is from a different country, and they have their own unique personality and styles, also the cars that are locked for the characters all are fitting and make sense. The US driver has Muscle style cars, the Japanese driver has Tuner style cars, etc. The game also has some pretty fun game modes as well, like cops and robbers, drive or explode, and many more! The main issue I have sadly is the AI. They are pretty da*m brutal. The rubberbanding AI kinda breaks the enjoyment in this game for me. I don’t mind some rubberbanding to an extent on arcade racers, but this is just ridiculous. Also the progression kinda sucks. You get money from completing races, but it’s only cosmetic things you can buy for your character and cars, and it’s super bare bones. I wish you could unlock new cars, tracks, or even upgrades. Another annoying issue is that you can’t change your controller button layout.[/td]

[td]I really wanted to like this game, but the stages and the progression just got stale after a while, especially since they are so easy to drive around with no challenge. Also the AI are just brutal in terms of rubberbanding and not fun at all to race against. If you are looking for a fun retro style racing game, then look elsewhere. It’s not a horrible game by any stretch, because it does have some great driving and really fulfills that arcade style “vibe”. This game is just a disappointment in my opinion and it hurts to say, because I really enjoy these style racing games.[/td]

rubberbanding in 2020-2024 is CRAZY, i thought we moved passed that as a society. the drift is unbelieveibly finicky too
glad i got it on sale for $2...
Really fun arcade racing! Playing this on expert though can be a difficult (and sometimes unfair) challenge since the opponents rubber-band a LOT but it's possible to squeeze a win once you learn the track and how to handle the car you are using.
Content-wise it offers a good amount of stuff to do for the price and you can play split screen with a friend. I haven't checked the online stuff but you can also play online multiplayer if you like that stuff (you will need to find lobbies though).
Really fun game overall!
It's a solid racing game and I love the art direction it has.

Its a good game and i want to reccomend, but not supporting steam cloud saves in 2024, in a game that isnt a retro port is basically unforgivable.
Was looking forward to playing on steam deck, but not if it means starting from 0 again.

Nothing good to say about this game (but the drift, drift is OK).
- Rubber banding is a plague. The races has a "Groundhog day" feeling, You always compete against 2 to 4 opponents (based on difficulty), you will always pass them and then they will pass you and try to ram you. If they succeed your race is over (but in normal difficulty). The most convenient way to win races is to build your booster level and boost 2 or 3 times on the final straight (just lame).
- Nothing screams retro or arcade to me. Not the cheap placed "Easter eggs", reminders of other arcade games like Daytona or hydro thunder, not the use of a Sega-ish announcer not even the Virtua rally aesthetic, because the game-play is mediocre at best.
- Use of bad cheap stereotypical humor.
- Main "career mode" is meh at best, normal tournaments are boring, hard and expert difficulty are irritating, and the fact that you can't restart the race (it restarts the GP) is frustrating. They could implement the progression system into the game instead of making a shop to buy skins.
- Bad optimization with choppy framerate on high settings and in some circuits on medium (Ryzen 5 5500U and RTX 3050).
Avoid this one as a plague.
The handling physics, vehicle customization, and overall presentation are pretty well done for a game that's meant to capture the feel of Sega's racing games from the 90's.
The game's biggest issue is the rubberbanding. It's fine on the lower difficulties, but the races become very frustrating on hard mode and that's about the time I stopped playing. The voice samples get grating after a while but they can be muted at least.
It's still worth grabbing on sale if you're looking for an arcade racer to play in short bursts.
Steam says "This game should work great with your controller" but god help you if you need to rebind a button.
