The amount of wasted time back tracking or plain tracking is just too much.
Coool Upgrade IMO to the orginal game
This game really feels old but, all the problems of the game are only because of that and nothing else so... i can deal with that. As soon as i hear Laura Bailey's voice i switched to japanese because i'm really tired to hear it in almost every game i play lmao.
The combat is amazing, very fun to play :steamhappy:
I love this game but MAN i forgot how absolutly DOGSHIT the boss design is. Wait for the boss to expose it's weakness (that is if it isn't busy spamming the same attack over and over or just not doing a damn thing because this games AI is absolute ass cheeks OR the move to expose it's weak point just flat out blocks you from hitting it)and then eventually you will win, I say again awesome game (bad voice acting) but the bosses and overall boss design of SO4 can fuck right off. Give Me Till the End of Time's combat any day over this.
A good game but not great.
Excellent Star Ocean game. If you haven't played any before think of it as a more open, more complicated Final Fanatasy
I played this back in the day. It wasn't really anything special then. It certainly didn't age into anything special. There are better ways to spend your 20 bucks.
Always been a huge fan of this game, on Playstation and the Xbox 360 but really wanted to play this on a Handheld on the go. So I thought I would get it for my Rog Ally X, but don't seem to get any sound. I thought it would be an easy fix but looked it up and a lot of people have the same problem! Such a shame
Unless there is something I'm missing? Then I would be happy to change my review
i adore it
The only real hiccup I see up to now is the lack of tactic like "Focus on healing allies", otherwise loving it!
Terrible controls, end of story. Not worth a $1.
Graphics: Looks nice. UI: Fine.
Characters: Generally looks good, some are questionable; Generally somehow glitched personality.
Scenario: Clearly a game. Enemies and devices and plot stages are just there for game purpose. Looks like it never intended to be real or reasonable in a SF / revolution perspective.
But fun to play for me. Basically an easy ACT / musou game (A-RPG).
Plot? Well, you are just a hero to save the world, as in most of RPG's. It's never real or reasonable anyway.
The camera's are janky as hell, the combat is not much better and is often worse. Team AI is absolute trash, even if you tell folks to stay clear while you control someone else, they WILL walk into a boss AoE nuke from the other side of the map. I want to like this game because the characters are solid and i like the setting, but this game has so many problems it's unreal.
This isn't my first Star Ocean game: I've played 2 and 3, both to completion, when they came out. I couldn't bring myself to complete this when it first came out, so I decided to buy this and play it to completion. That was, without a doubt, one of the worst decisions that I have ever made.
Nothing, and I truly mean nothing, could have prepared me for how much absolute hatred I would feel toward this thing by the end of it.
The background tracks in this game feel devoid of energy. There's no peaks to them, no valleys, just droning on and on like white noise. Some sounds effects are also comically unbalanced.
Then there's the cast. Lymle is awful to listen to, and you'll likely turn off her battle voice lines asap. The robot guy is completely uninteresting, typically only existing to reframe the previous comment in a different way. Sarah's humor gimmick is asking stupid questions / making irrelevant comments. Myuria is funny in a laughing-at-them kind of way, because the game gave a serious backstory to the very obviously fanservice character design. It's very hard to take her seriously given her design (you'll understand if you get far enough).
The combat system seems fun at first. You get a variety of power moves, characters say stuff when they do moves, and there's a variety...at first. Then you realize it's the same moves. Every time the battle is done, the character says the same line. The more I went through the game's combat, the more I wished I was playing a Tales game. The more I played through the story, the more I realized that younger me was right: This game is awful.
This is a game where there's a lovely tutorial in the beginning but ONLY if you have an external controller.
It's really hard to play this if there's no tutorial for keyboard and mouse. lols
Anyways, I kinda liked the premise, but the controls are all over the place...
Just as the other reviewers have said, it looks like this port is bad. But who can say...
My god, this game is a backtrack/grind fest, I don't know how I managed to play this back on X360 and not get bored.
This time I used trainer/cheat table a lot, don't care it's cheating.
Thumbs up only cause I'm sure series fans will probably like it anyway.
Other than the characters in the cutscenes belonging in a wax museum... this is a solid offering.
A fun blast from the past. Mods made this game even better. I remember playing this on the Xbox 360. Still have that copy as well. Worth it just for the nostalgia. Now if only they had a few other old games like Lost Oddesy that would be awesome.
One of the better adaptions of a classic Squeenix game up to modern 3d standards.
Very off putting from the start. Weird anime tropes in a sci-fi setting. The characters models are all so stiff. The action is very slow as well, once we landed on the first planet it took forever to trigger the next cut scene. Not really anything to like in the first hour so I'm not going to play the remaining 49 hours.
The gameplay is fine but not nearly as good as Star Ocean Second Story R
Pretty cool game. Kind of like what Phantasy Star would be like by Square Enix. Many cool game mechanics keep the game interesting and a good pace to exploration.
I thought the character sprites faces look funny.
You'll need an proper controller to play this one, keyboard is not going to be very good.
Sometimes they look at the camera, right into your eyes... You know, the thing about a Last Hope character? They've got lifeless eyes; black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When it comes at ya it don't seem to be livin'... until it bites into ya and those black eyes rollll over huwite.
The red-headed stepson of the Star Ocean series. The characters look like porcelain dolls in the worst way possible and no, you'll never fully get over that while playing. Gameplay-wise it's still Star Ocean with some new gimmicks but it just doesn't have that 🆂🅾🆅🅻 that the previous games exuded.
The game story is very good & you notice the effort put into the development of the game. It has a lot of dumb scene & rushed left & right, but still captive you to keep knowing more. The graphic & animation look good for 2024.
Battle system is fun for your character that you control, but your AI friend are retarded. They often go on suicide tactic. I end up often switching character as quick as possible & hope to stop them.
Game peacing is bad. No way to save the game when it's unsaveable for over 30min. You got super long fight & cut scene that last almost 30min, no to mention you can't pause them.
This game is far better than FFXIII & FFXIII-2
Game Fantastic . Monster Data on Ashlay & Arch Spellmaster I Recommend. Note Debuff removed when applied to weapon
Broken mess with removed input feature... in order to leave sub-optimal controls
There is no mods fixing the glaring issues and disregard for fans.
DO NOT PURCHASE ON PC.
Story : 7/10
Gameplay 0/10
Performance 5/10
Graphics 5/10
Total 4.25/10
is Good play all friend old Game :D
A great star ocean and a great follow up to SO3.
well written characters with actual personality written by people with a sense of humor.
highly recommended just for the characters and story alone, if gameplay ain't your thing then maybe lower difficulty.
yeah its good and yes you should
GOAT
ones of the best RPG games in history.
The original was good, all remakes by Square Enix are bad without exception.
Terrible company for years already.
It's a great space adventure with attaching characters and some of the best setting I've come across in the sci fi genre.
i am a massive fan of star ocean and this being on steam is a massive plus,
