Gameplay

It's a bit lackluster compared to the previous games in the Luxor series. It reuses assets from Luxor 2 and 3, lending to kind of an uncanny feeling like "hey, those sounds doesn't belong with this artwork". At least the level backgrounds look interesting and original, and that double shooter power is amusing.
Technical

It's forced to run at 800x600 fullscreen resolution, and coming from a game released in 2011, that's frankly unacceptable. Not only that, but it can't even change the display mode on its own, I have to manually change my resolution in the Windows settings to get it to show up properly, and it won't let me change to windowed mode because of an error that it won't describe to me.
Luxor: 5th Passage is yet another installment in the Luxor franchise. I can't recommend against it enough. This one is definitely the odd one from the series and it shows through each aspect of the game.
The story is yet another, blast through match 3+ balls-on-a-track type levels until you complete a section of the journey to recover an artifact. The game play is technically the same, but plays much worse than any other Luxor titles and other games like Luxor. The targeting seems so slow, inaccurate, and balanced against you. The shooter feels worse than other games as it doesn't move the smoothest and it is horrible at grab treasures and power-ups, basically have to aim for dead center of it. The levels are alright, some nice to look at while others are very frustrating to play, and I believe this one has the most levels at this point in the franchise. There is a story mode, blast mode (get as many points in a short amount of time on Luxor levels of various games), and fan favorite map mode (play old favorite maps from other games).
There are in-game achievements and new power-ups, but nothing really new otherwise. The new powers vary in usefulness. Double shot (shoot two balls at once) is great, just would be better if shooting was not broken. Black Hole (places a void that eats balls on the track) is garbage because it lasts so short, and it is worse if the train is close to the end of the track as the train moves slower the closer it is to the end. The piercing dagger power-up (instead of a ball, a dagger is shot) is okay at best, only useful for destroying a few odd balls to make a big chain explosion. The Spike Ball (shoot a ball with spikes that shoot little thorns to destroy balls) has the worst hit detection of anything, so it is rarely useful.
Besides that, it plays okay, but this is my least favorite Luxor game. If you get the Luxor bundle, then give the game a try, but I would recommend even Luxor Mahjong over this game.
Nice continuation of Luxor.
If it weren't for the sheer amount of bugs and issues this game has, this would have had been one of the better, or at least more unique Luxor games in my opinion. New power ups, especially double shooter, while simple, really give you the power of destruction and annihilating the oncoming trains of spheres. Eye of Horus was also a pretty neat mechanic, although kind of unneccessary in the end in all honesty - Not that you would ever get a chance to activate it anyway due to the requirement of catching 100 pieces of treasure per level for it's activation, which is far too much. As is also the case with many older games, Luxor series not being any different, there isn't really Steam Cloud save integration for those that care for it and you can't really customize the resolution that you wish to play on, which for some monitors can prove a bit annoying to deal with. Levels and their graphics are really beautiful and creative, as with most of the other Luxor games starting with and after original 2 - Despite the years showing, you can still appreciate the good looking level backgrounds and textures and the 3D feel of it all. Really wish I could recommend this game, but I can't. I think it would have had been far better and actually worthy of recommendation if anyone in the community of sphere matching games would fix up it's flaws. Still, it's worth at least taking a quick look at, if you wanna feel some freshness.
