I think Jedi Academy is far better but still the game has good level designs and variety. I recommend you to play this game first, its a good preparation to next game. The story takes place before it and tells us Kyle Katarn background. It's like a raw version of Jedi Academy and gives some glimpse of its gameplay. Trust me go with this order, you will enjoy more.
Easily the best Star Wars game
Disney sucks and their new EULA sucks. Don't buy it.
the star wars ark we should have seen in cinema.
Game needs a remaster BADLY. I think alot of people will probably drop this game before they manage to get the lightsaber when the game really starts to get good. The gunplay is atrocious, probably some of the worst in any Star Wars game you could imagine. It feels impossible to hit moving targets because of how slow the projectile speed is and how imprecise the reticle is, the pacing of the first few levels dont help it much so it makes replaying the game a slog for me personally.
Now the irony of all of this is that when you get the Lightsaber it is still the best saber combat Star Wars has ever had. The game picks up like you would believe, and yeah there are still moments where you need to shoot but it is significantly less at that point. For most people I would probably suggest Jedi Academy over this game since you start with the lightsaber right off the bat, it also helps that you have more fighting styles in that game too.
I would still recommend it but just know if you arent prepared for the slow burn of the game then it can be really off putting.
great game aim shoot force powers
The continuing adventures of space Chuck Norris.
Good:
- Music
- Atmosphere
- Moment to moment gameplay
- Difficulty
Bad:
- Man, I wish for well working first person lightsaber play
- Nar Shaddaa. You love the vibe, you hate the level design
- No FMV no more ;_;
8/10
Lack of FMV cutscenes drops this from the all time greats.
Also damn it's tricky to get the cutscenes to play well on an ultrawide
>Game called Jedi Knight
>Don't get lightsaber till 1/3rd of the way through the game
Fuck off
its got aliens, light sabers, grenades and other things.
It cant be any worse than tf2
amazing game with honestly a decent gameplay even today
its a fun game but a lot of moments of asking "what should I be doing" and " where do I go". Be prepared to look up a guide for this time.
Not much to say its a classic arcade shooter with a star wars coat of paint on top, the saber dueling mechanics are janky as sin but, all and all it rather enjoyable, arguably better then anything EA has made for this IP lol
This is so extremely good, I cant find the proper words.
I have no words to describe this pile of *****, this is horrbile game. No way I recommend anyone to play this game.
The game holds up as for fun and "puzzle-no-instructions games from the 2000s". Its a mix of shooter and jedi, but I had tons of fun playing it, it gave more material to understand Kyle (since I only played jedi knight academy many and many times).
You will die a lot. You will get lost alot. And have a deacent time. Maybe in a week the game is over. You will miss the fights with the light saber!! increadible mechanics for it time.
Fantastic
Don't let me lack on time played on steam fool you, I'm pretty sure I played about 100 hours of this game as a kid. This is an absolute master piece of a game for its age. Story line is pretty good, combat is fun and challenging. The cheat console allows you to spawn in weapons and NPCS! You can have like 20 storm troopers fight a couple of jedis.
Might be my nostalgia but this game is a 10/10 for me
I've played this one before on the Gamecube and while I enjoyed it, I did find it to be a bit frustrating in places. Still, me and my brother very much enjoyed the split screen deathmatches.
Fast forward about 15 years and I thought I'd be able to breeze this on PC. I didn't. Let me explain why.
So, it's very much a game of its time. Graphics are fine, music and sound effects are great and everything is very authentic. My big issue is that the game just feels like a series of challenges thrown together. Rather than a level playing organically and you work your way through, you end up throwing yourself at a situation over and over, dying and reloading until you work out what you're supposed to do. Then the next bit happens and provides another challenge. This wouldn't be so bad if the challenges didn't kill you outright or cause an immediate game over. You don't feel like you're getting anywhere because of skill or wits. You're just reloading over and over until you learn the right pattern. As I said, that seemed to be a thing with PC games and consoles didn't do quicksave so much back in the day so the games didn't throw impossible stuff at you so much because it would make the game annoying, where PC players could just go back and keep reloading.
It's also very easy to get stuck. Your vague objective rarely gives exact instructions (Get in the base..... How helpful) and you're left to find out how to do it. Don't get me wrong, there's some real sense of accomplishment when you do figure a section out but sometimes the way forward is way too vague (crawl up to that rock by a tiny waterfall that looks like a glitch, In a swamp level surrounded by mountains and you can get under it to progress. And I was supposed to figure that out HOW??) There's no map and no objective marker so you don't even know if you're going the right way half the time. It sounds like First world gamer problems, I know, but I'm past that bit of my life where I'm willing to wander around for hours with no idea where I need to go. And believe me, you need to find that one route. There's no deviating from the very set path the devs have planned. No trying to find your own way. You as a person would obviously do things differently, go a safer way, cut through a door, climb a rock, but if it's not the route the designers intended then forget about it. No matter how stupid the route you have to take is. This is something the difficulty level can't influence either. If you don't know where to go, no matter how easy or hard the baddies are, you're screwed.
Don't get me started on the bit where you take out hundreds of Stormtroopers in a base but then you get a forced stealth section where if someone sounds an alarm, you're immediately captured and its game over, complete with unskippable cutscene. Literally it was quicker to turn off my PC, reboot and reload then sit through the plot point. Add this to the fact that your character jumps on platforms like he's wearing roller skates sometimes and you'd think I hate this thing.
Truth is, I don't. I think a second playthrough will be quite good as I know what to do now and I can just focus on the narrative and smacking Stormtroopers without wandering aimlessly for ages. It's quite a cool story and like I said, the weapons, levels, music and sound are all very authentic. You definitely know you're playing a Star Wars game, which is why I recommend it. If you're willing to put some hours in (or use a guide if required) you'll probably get some enjoyment out of this. Like I said though, don't expect to flow through it.
Played this game since 2003 and it never gets old. Some levels do have some where do I go moments but the game is really enjoyable. I probably have 2000 hours logged in the Xbox version's multiplayer and it is so satisfying to fall of a ledge and hear your character scream. Sound design is excellent
The reason I always come back to this game, besides the insanely fun lightsaber combat, is the fact it feels like playing an old Star Wars novel/comic thanks to its numerous references and nods to the original Expanded Universe, all intertwined and packaged in a simple yet well executed narrative that makes for a cozy comfort zone for any SW fan from that era, and a fun time all around.
Just have patience with the level design if it's your first time playing and check guides if you have to. The same goes if you struggle with the lightsaber mechanics early on; it's quite a learning curve, but a rewarding and satisfying one at that once you reach the other end.
This hits the old Star Wars game vibes that i crave some times. Of course you get the most of the story if you've played the other Star Wars Jedi Knights games. But even only playing the Jedi Knight academy game myself the story is great. The only part of this game that made me want to die was the forced stealth portion. But that's just because I suck at stealth.
good ol classic star wars game that is not disney crap
10/10
One of my all time favorite Star Wars games!!
good
one of the greatest of all time
Play this game with the enhanced/remastered mod in full 4k widescreen.
It's a must have for any Star Wars fan. Timeless and epic.
And it should have been canon.
How do i get P.1.02 version with bugs and other fun movements ?
i love everything about it
wow the jedi knight games are so annoying to get running. why do i have to be a hacker to start up a game and download a bunch of files and drag and drop into the game files for the game to start because it was built like such a turd. why am i doing lucasarts job
The first Star Wars game with good lightsaber combat. Solid game and better if you like the universe.
yes
This is still a wonderful game. Like it's successor, Jedi Academy- this game will interest you for years!
A classic.
Best jedi simulator ever!! hands down I will argue this forever so don't even try...
A little bit clunky due to age, but this is still one of the best Star Wars games ever made. Hit me in the nostalgia feels.
Age leaves no rust on this game. Yes it's clunky, yes the graphics are poor now but the game is still a classic, and still fun to play.
This took 12 hours on normal difficulty. So far of the Kyle Katarn games this was the best one. I am even somewhat surprised by how ambitious it was. It does not even require mods to enhance the graphics but if you did that would probably be the best way to play.
The only technical issues I encountered was that sometimes specific saves would crash the game immediately and then make screen look gamma boosted. This is annoying but just replaying from the start of the level fixed this or making a new save in a different spot. This might be because of my custom fov and resolution.
It would be even better if the game design didn't random new game mechanics like the last few.
Jedi academy was janky but fun. In Jedi Outcast they took away all the stuff that made it fun and cranked up everything that made it tedious and annoying. Want to play a jedi? play a few levels of trashy fps with no saber or force powers first. Finally got your saber and force after a tedious and long tutorial? Heres a level full of enemies with aimbot snipers your saber cant block and grenade spammers. You have to save spam and systematically pick off each and ever sniper after baiting them to miss by an inch while using the worst platforming imaginable. Hope you like going back and forth hitting arbitrary buttons because this game loves to waste your time by making you backtrack constantly.
In short dont buy this, its the furthest thing from fun. Try jedi academy. Its janky and the mechanics are questionable, but at least you actually get to play as a jedi if you ignore the awful plotline.
Jedi Academy was a very important part of my childhood, but i was very hesitant to try this game, since you dont have your lightsaber in the first few levels. I just finished the singleplayer campaign, and i couldnt be happier, interesting story, great levels, and the same amazing combat system that is used in Academy too. 10/10
The best Star Wars game
theres no health in this fucking game
What a great game - it features an unforgettable character in Kyle Katarn and outstanding third person lightsaber combat that must never be forgotten. A gem that lives on with Star Wars fans that went deeper than just the movies. It was during a time I wanted more of post-ROTJ with the rich Expanded Universe characters than the current ongoing Prequels. Oh what a time.
Thanks for the memories devs.
its star wars duh
Remake the Katarn Jedi games, you cowards!
A good game. To this day some of the best lightsabre combat in a game. And this came out 2003. For its time, this was fantastic.
Amazing game for it's era and graphics. Truely a great story mode and single player game.
love this game even after 22 years
classice sw goodness
Back in July I downloaded this game, but it won't play here on Steam. What do I need to do in order to get this game to run?
