Best ever jedi/sith dueling game with MovieBattles II installed
Dark Forces 4: Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Outcast 2: Jedi Academy is my second favourite star wars game after Dark Forces 3: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. Really needs a sequel if Raven ever get allowed to make their own games again
Really lost my interest after the 300th hour, but I'd prolly play again.
7/10 Great story and maps, especially combat and movement being so fluid and customisable. Voice lines are poor. Multiplayer mode is poor as the controls don't work the same, nothing you can do about it, and you are limited to only one side of the force.
Single player 9/10
Multiplayer 5/10
Great game, even playing in 2025)
This is the best game ever created.
VISUALLY DID NOT AGE WELL. I regret checking it now; in my memories, it had nearly perfect graphics.
Otherwise, despite being unreasonably hard, Jedi Academy is THE Star Wars game for me.
If you haven’t played this game, you missed out, and you need to pick this up and play it right now. I will forever be irritated that this kind of innovative, fun, intriguing combat style never got picked up by any of these modern Star Wars games. Every other Star Wars game that you get to play with lightsabers is a big fat let down because of this one, other than Forced Unleashed. That one was cool too.
This game. It's what we should have had! Best campaign i've seen from star wars games. moddable, decent,
fun to learn n play.
Movie Battles II ftw! id highly recommend to anyone with a fancy for lightsaber physics!
One of the best games of all time, not even kidding.
A actual classic that your kids, kids should play.
i only play for the movement, but its fun if you can manage to find a game
(not a big starwars guy just a movement player)
Ive beat this game so many times. Plus online still exists with this one.
THE GAME IS QUITE GOOD I LIKE IT A LITTTLE BITY
One of the earlier Jedi simulators. Very fun.
This is part of my childhood, will always recommend.
That said the gameplay still feels good
great original star wars game. Amazing lightsaber mechanics.
a little glitchy but fun none the less
I replayed many years after and it remains a great game!
I died during a cutscene because Kyle jumped on my head and made me fall into acid.
10/10
Better than the other crap in this series
Just like Jedi Outcast but way less cryptic. A- for not being able to play as Kyle and hear his scream when you jump off a cliff
This was my Half Life 2. But more than that, I got to live out all my double-bladed lightsaber dreams (okay fiine saberstaff lightstaff whatever.) I also got to live my nightmares of my rockets being force deflected right back at me. And getting blasted by a remote droid I couldn't figure out how to deflect the first time I played.
In other words, I have a friccin blast every time with this game.
This game (and Movie Duels mod) is everything I wanted from a Star Wars game
Once you calibrate your control settings, it's level of detail of light saber and force power play are unmatched
Poorly tuned. Nearly everything about this game feels at least a little wrong, almost like it wasn't playtested enough or something. The movement and shooting both feel very awkward, way below the standards of what you could expect from a game released in 2003. The weapons are a mixed bag; the ones that let you skip the bad shooting mechanics (basically any AoE weapon) are the most fun. Level design and enemy encounters are boring and repetitive, though they do try some unique tricks here and there which work out OK (like the prison escape level with the rancor). There are fixes for the performance but by default the framerate fluctuates like crazy on modern systems. And the story, to my taste, is just totally forgettable, managing to suck the charisma out of Kyle Katarn, one of the more memorable characters from previous iterations of this series. I think this game implements the John Williams score really badly too--I managed to get really sick of it by the end of the game, which I can't say for other Star Wars games that feature Williams' music, like Battlefront 2 (2005).
The saber combat is very impressively animated, and upon a google/Steam guide investigation it seems like there's a lot of hidden depth to it. But there's nothing preventing your average novice to the 3rd person-action genre--me, in other words--to just mash left-click while wiggling the mouse around for 95% of the game's many lightsaber duels, which actually works perfectly fine. I don't feel too bad about not trying to master complex mechanics that the game makes absolutely no effort to teach me--I took the cheesy path instead. The problem is that you get to the 5% of those fights, the bosses and mini-bosses, and the game expects you to actually know how to fight. So I won't lie to you, I cheesed my way through the last 3 or 4 of those fights by spamming force lightning and running away. Not exactly the most authentic experience to have with this game, but actually trying to learn the mechanics at a deep level just didn't seem to me to be worth it, especially since 1) again, the game doesn't teach you any of it whatsoever, 2) the game mostly doesn't require any deep knowledge of its systems, and 3) the game isn't very good.
At least force powers are fun, kind of. Your character becomes very overpowered very quickly, which is for the best for a game like this. Powers synergize well with both blaster and lightsaber playstyles, enhancing the enjoyment of both. The jankiness of the game's physics makes it so that force lightning will blast enemies way off into the distance team-rocket style, which is pretty entertaining. But the meter-management involved is just painful--those platforming sections in the endgame involve repeatedly waiting for your force power meter to regenerate in order to complete successive jumps, not fun. In fact there is generally a lot of waiting for force power to regenerate in this game, killing the flow of action with unnecessary pauses.
I've never played the mods for this game but it seems like that would be the reason to buy it. Otherwise, you're much better taking your 9-hours or more of play investment elsewhere.
Star wars JKJA in its vanilla state definitely shows it age; the controls feel kinda bad, textures look low res, sound effects arent as crisp as modern games. but with JAEnhanced mod this game is at least more fun that most games released today
Best Lightsaber combat this side of the Mason-Dixon
best star wars game ever made...enough said
I'd say no game comes close to its lightsaber combat, even 22 years later. It does have kind of a steep learning curve, but it is so much fun once you really get it. Everything except the story (which is a bit worse here) is improved compared to its prequel, Jedi Outcast. The graphics, although dated, weirdly enough do not feel out of place. P.s. movie duels mod rules
Played the campaign 5 times.
Gonna make a new character and do it again every year.
Best lightsaber combat in any Star Wars Game
playing this for the first time and it's pretty fun and the controls hold up. Only complaint about this game is that you have to make sure to delete old save files, because if it's full you can't save your progress beyond the checkpoints.
A remnant of the best days being a Star Wars fan. It's crazy to think how great so much of the Star Wars media was back then. This, KOTOR, Battlefront and whole host of amazing novels and Dark Horse comics.
Now I can't force myself to be excited about anything Star Wars even if I tried forcing myself. The world was gutted when they retconned the Expanded Universe, instead opting to take inspiration from these superior stories and write something completely half-baked and predictable.
Oh well. This game is still totally worth playing today and still has some of the best lightsaber combat you can find. The story is fairly charming and those who have enjoyed the novels post Return of the Jedi will find it interesting. Modding possibilities are nearly endless as well, playing around in Movie Battles 2 is an absolute must.
For anyone who finishes the game and wants to learn more about the story of the protagonist Jaden Korr, read the novels titled Riptide and Crosscurrent. These sorts of games and stories may no longer be canon or expanded upon, but they are still worth enjoying.
They don't make games like that anymore. No wonder more and more players are coming back. Especially with the Mod Moviebattles II this game is an absolute masterpiece.
I like this game very much its good made basically from golden age of franchise. But there is one thing in community. Some mod skins are looking characters after bee sting non-shrek variety with alcohol disease syndrome. I don't understand why somebody would do that but its just non acceptable to be such a narcissist.
Classic! Such a fun game.
best star wars game ever perhaps?
The game of my childhood.
Quite an adventure.
Here you can fight with a lightsaber! With two lightsabers! With a lightsaber staff!!!
You can use force and shoot from blasters.
Damn, you can even customize the appearance of your character and lightsabers.
What else have you dreamed of?
This game has the best lightsaber combat by a mile and has insanely active modding community.
Play this game with the enhanced/remastered mod in full 4k widescreen.
It's a must have for any Star Wars fan. Timeless and epic.
And it should have been canon.
I marked yes because I like the game HOWEVER this port has a lot of bugs. So keep that in mind. Cutscenes specifically have issues with this port. The game itself is fun and a great sequel to Jedi Outcast.
This game aged quite well, the combat is good altough it can be tedious at times, the better way to describe it is fun and unique.
If you get bored by the main storyline you can play with mods which make the game feel fresh.
it's canon so if you're getting into the lore, you have to play this gem.
Easily my favorite single player Star Wars game.
Despite being over 20 years old, it still plays well. After a few minutes my eyes get used to the dated graphics, and its an all in, fun SW romp. Never even tried multiplayer (which I've read only great things about) and I've still put almost 750 hours into this game.
This is the Gem of OG Jedi games. Very simple and easy to understand. Probably the best intro game to OG starwars games.
Game is still great in 2024. If you're not offended by the lack of ray tracing, this is one of my personal favorite star wars games.
Sand worms gave me nightmares as a kid.
Its a good game, very difficult but challenging fun.
Very good game, it's old but gold. Multiplayer is pretty active also.
