not good, looks as if it may be interesting but unlike other deckbuilders this one will just drop difficulty on you all of a sudden.
you'll move from one battle to the next and the damage will go from 6 or 7 to totalling up to 20 per turn. whilst you can do a maximum of 4-6 in defense.
also the story is just 'i need revenge' and that's about it.
One of the best rougelikes I have played to date.
Don't let the time fool ya. I have an extra 100 hours I played offline of this. Beautifuly made. Choices you make matter. Plenty of replayability and every character is unique. Love it and want more like it
I really like the story elements blended with the roguelike deck builder. Its fun and makes it less of a tired formula. I think the relationship system is brilliant and really makes you feel like you are role playing while being so lightweight. I don't love the two deck system, having to keep two decks in your head is kind of exhausting. Its like playing two different runs of Slay the Spire at the same time and switch which run you are playing every battle or two. I thought the game was well balanced, i did complete my first run, but there were a couple of very close calls. The sign of a good deckbuilder is that you get to a point where you feel like youve broken the game but it ends up being just enough to win, and they nailed that.
This weird fake alien language audio playing for every dialogue advancement is unnecessary and overwhelming for an autistic like me. The only option to disable it is to mute ALL dialogue volume, this is including the narrator. I had to close the game before I could even interact with the first bit of game play.
definitely my favorite roguelike ever. it depresses me that this isnt one of klei's breadwinners, it seems we wont be getting any more griftlands for a long time, if ever. even still, whats here will stay with me forever.
Such a fun game! I put almost 200h in this game and odds are I'll eventually pick it up again.
The dual Combat/Negotiation mechanic is very cool and the decks of each character do wonder to portray the skills and attitude of the characters; the attitude of NPCs altering your gameplay is an interesting twist on karma mechanics, you can either run for mayor and be the most popular grifter in the land or make enemies wherever you go (and later unmaking them if they give you half a chance, if you catch my drift). Every character has their own gritty, pulpy story to tell, and two ways to reach their ultimate goal, and the worldbuilding is so quirky and fun even when at its most merciless, allowing you to understand enough of the context without bogging you down with exposition.
All in all, one of the greatest examples of the genre imho, deffo recommend!
Took a few runs initially to get my head around all the keywords and the way the negotiation system worked but after like 30 mins - 1hr it all made sense and I got hooked! Really nice flow to the gameplay and you can skip through the dialogue if youre not too interested in the story and just want to focus on the card mechanics if you want to. (but I ended up being interested in each characters stories anyway)
Cant say yet what long term replayability looks like but I've found the 2 characters stories ive completed so far very enjoyable.
GOAT for a reason
Funny interactions and well written dialog make this a truly great game. Plenty of different missions to do and choices to make that gives it enough longevity. Randomised cards and in-game mods to mix it up as well. Starting perks to unlock as you keep playing to unlock a harder difficulty each time. Story is ace and quite frankly just a touch of class. It will be criminal not to make a sequel!!
Better than most deck builders I have played with a well rounded immersive story.
This game is so much fun! Took me a few runs to get my head around the systems but each run is a little different so wasn't a problem to repeating a day or two. I recommend doing your first run on the story mode then when you have the systems down doing on normal. Be warned the difficulty jumps a touch ;)
i like the concept of 2 different set of card rule in a game of which both coexist. you can't brute force your way through combat or negotiation alone. for the story there are usually 2 path you can take, siding with some faction except for Smith ( i guess you can have pacifist or genocide path for Smith). i like the minor differences and bonuses for the faction but its still minor, just some item and boons. the difficulty usually for me only happen in the 1/3 of playthrough to find "win condition" cards because after you got it the difficulty dropped. but overall i recommend if you played slay the spire (8/10)
You can cheese this game by starting a run and abandoning it immediately. It rewards you points for the initial shills you gain, use a perk to increase the amount.
Absolutely activates the same part of my brain that loves Slay the Spire
super interesting take on deckbuilders! run two decks at the same time in the same over-arching story that changes the mid-points every run. feels great to play, feels great to make builds, and avoids the "lock and key" build mechanics of most games in the genre. pick it up!!
One of the most underrated card battlers...
So many things to do and unlock, story-driven... and lots of care in the details.
Of course being a rogue-lite it's a bit slow in the beginning, but that's with all games of this genre.
It's a great game!
criminally underrated
Possibly my favorite roguelite deckbuilder, I love the little choices you get to make throughout the campaigns, the mechanics and items/grifts are solid, and the mix of combat and diplomacy is really interesting.
Love the art style, story detail is awesome, game navigation is really cool, dual battle/negotiation combat is awesome, and the RNG gods are not forgiving.
I normally skip story in games, but the devs did a good job making it so you need to pay attention a bit as it will matter for what choices you're making in game. However, most of the long exposition is kept behind optional dialogue, so if you're like me and not super big into story, it's not a burden. Each character plays on their own map and storyline. Each has a few different sets of story events that play out, so it takes quite a few runs to learn about everything.
I really enjoy the effort put into navigating choices on the map. The characters party needs to walk around and often runs into random events along the way. I don't want to say it's quite "open world", but you have the ability to visit home base and some of the shops in the middle of doing other stuff. This is a big relief from the standard tree / ladder choices from slay-the-spire clones. (However, they also include a Brawl mode which is much closer to that for those who prefer).
I think one of the most challenging parts of the game is balancing two decks. There's Combat which is your standard roguelike deckbuilder fights, and then there's Negotiation. The best way I can describe Negotiation is that buffs do most of the work, but also they can directly attack your buffs. It's definitely a novel combat system that can be challenging at first. The problem is that you only really buff a deck while you're using it. If Negotiation feels hard, you'll be more likely to pick Combat options, only buff your combat deck, and make late game Negotiations incredibly difficult.
My biggest issue with the game is sometimes you just get absolutely screwed by RNG. Making the best picks I could all run to find out 40 minutes in that a boss is just going to be like, "Nope, your run ends now" because I don't have the perfect kit for it. This is really one of the dual-edged swords of roguelikes though, so it's not the biggest drawback. This is also alleviated quite a bit after pressing into end game and getting permanent buffs that stick between runs. Those first couple runs before you start spending meddle... the RNG can be a bit harrowing. (They also include a story difficulty that's a little easier and lets you reset once if you die, if the normal difficulty becomes too hard).
Overall, great game. Little bit of a steep learning curve and lots to pay attention too which is what I look for in games, but the game will also hold your hand if you want it to. Definitely recommend.
This game distinguishes itself from dozens of other deckbuilders by so much, and doing it so well that I honestly don't know where to begin. I really don't, Griftlands just goes above and beyond, not just when compared to simiar-looking games, but in general.
Try it, if you like deck-builders OR if you like well-written RPGs. And know that the first story is just a safe entry point. The stories get more intriguing, and the mechanics more unique and interesting with other two chatacters.
I really like this game. I wish there were more of it. Devs: please release more content!!!
Amazing roguelite deckbulider. I really like that there's a persuasion system alongside the combat and all three characters have their own unique playstyle and story. My only suggestion for improvement is have more useful combo mixtures because I found myself rarely ever picking builds that tailor for them. And I wish there were more unlockables and ways to unlock campaign perks. Otherwise, this is a great game and definitely recommend if you like deckbuilders.
Fun game, love the story, and deckbuilding.
Fun turn based roguelike, with added RPG and deck building elements. Pretty fun, relaxing change from real time games.
Demo seemed ok so I got the full game, but never really got that into it.
Great game, love the branching pathways and overall design of the world. Good battle and negotiation mechanics. I'm definitely going to get a lot of playtime out of this one.
Underrated gem. Highly recommend you pick this up if you enjoy roguelike deckbuilders
9/10
Just badly designed unfair game.
Introduction lasts 10 hours and then last boss crush you in 3 moves.
Games forces you to play combats over negotiations all the way down.
I dunno why devs made it, maybe to "shock the play with hardcordness". Not shocked just disappointed.
Best story driven deck builder I've played.
Something I most appreciate is how enemies surrender in battle so you don't have to be killing all the time.
A fine game that is very good value for money thanks to so much replayability.
The game crashes on me occasionally.
Easy to recommend. Thanks, Klei!
It was fun! Story and graphics are magnificent, deck building part no so, i didn't understood how to effectievly deck build because card drop after encounter almost always the same even if you opened new cards.
20 hours in and I just wish there was even more to play!
the best roguelike deckbuilding game i ever played, its pretty good, all klei games are good anyway.
Fun, engaging, replayable.
Unusual gameplay mechanics, unique story telling narrative by combining rogue-lite card game mechanics and 2 different combat scenarios that we can play with 3 set of different cards which unique to that character, absolute masterpiece of a card game only downside is when story is finished by all 3 characters replayibility is limited. It needs more content I think.
it's pretty fun
Bog Boil my beloved
Solid
Just a fun game. It's not balanced in the way of Spire or Balatro, but it's an absolute blast. I've put in so many hours trying different fun decks for various characters, just vibing.
Great game in my opinion. The content is good mechanic-wise. The story and world building sets up so much but does not delve that deep into it. I would have loved more of it being included. I have 300 hours in this game but to be honest I could not tell you where 200 of them came from. My runs average 45 minutes nonstop playing and by the time they are done I have no clue how so much time passed.
A good roguelike deckbuilder game with story elements.
I've played for enough to justify the purchase already and there's still plenty of unexplored content (higher difficulty, I've still only tried the first character etc).
Not Sci-fi fan but this is one of the best card games
Great gameplay and interesting story lines.
This is a pretty fun game with a solid game loop.
imo it's not a good roguelite. There are several aspects that make this bad choice to pick up for 15 mins couple times a day. or otherwise do long pauses
* You need to follow what's happening in the story for it not to become a dreadful chore where you just kinda smash skip skip skip
* There are multiple decks to keep track of, the social deck and the combat deck, if you didn't play if for few days, good luck remembering what you need
* runs are close to an hour even when making suboptimal choices, so if you play it in short sessions, you'll gonna end up making those long pauses..
I'd just rather play slay the spire instead of this if I don't have much time to play. And if I have a lot of time to play I'd rather play don't starve or oxygen not included
Overall a top tier deck-building game. The artwork and animations are great and the world design feels complete. You really need focus on many aspects to have a successful game: combat deck, diplomacy deck, upgrading cards, and even the boons and grafts. With a couple runs under your belt the synergies become more evident. Mega bleed deck, combo/finisher deck, burn/fire. Good replayability, and at least two of the playable classes are a lot of fun (not you Smith). The diplomacy deck takes some getting used to, but great overall.
I NEED a seccond game or fore clay to every grace us with a DLC theres so much plot just left here to appreciate i pray everyday for another Griftlands
One of the absolute best deckbuilder roguelikes ever created. Every time I hop on, it's fun. 47+ hours in and i am still finding new strategies, NPCs, and gameplay loops. The art is also great, and I love every character I come across.
10/10 Perfect Game.
Simply put: an incredible deck builder that can easily stand toe-to-toe with the greats like Slay the Spire. Mechanically deep and interesting. A feast for the eyes and ears. Hesitate no longer and play this amazing game!
Id say it is pretty much slay the spire rival with more story telling.
di ka duoooo, chi ka so soo..
Don't know what this guy is talking about.
Lol
