For any fans of musou games: this is easily the best narrative experience in any musou game ever, Fantastic, story, interesting execution (exploration levels, castle towns) combined with musou gameplay with some good twists - dynamic day/night cycles adds an interesting twist to battles, as do feats and especially stratagems. In short, this is a very refreshing take on the Warriors series, and I'd like to see more titles like this.
It's not perfect by any means - graphics are perhaps PS3 generation, objectives are interesting but pop-up too often which interrupts gameplay, and there are some stealth missions that are quite tedious. That said, overall I very much enjoyed my time with the game, and would HIGHLY recommend to any fan of musou titles.
I've played Samurai Warriors 4 and Samurai Warriors 5 to gauge my impression on the Spirit of Sanada and this game really surprised me in a couple of ways. No longer are battles just a one stage thing and the implementation of strategems gives you a sense of achievement when you do things right. The story is a bit long, mind you, and some of the dialogue a bit tedious to get through because of the lack of animations but regardless, it's a pretty good story for a Musou game. The combat is slightly harder and there is a bit more enemy variety alongside a greater variation of character designs even for minor characters. It's quite an all-rounded game that I'd highly suggest you get over the original Samurai Warriors 4.
However, this game does not go without a few critiques. The side missions are absolutely atrocious since it only amounts to you giving an npc an item or hunting a special enemy. Moving around the settlement is terrible when every character has a hit-box the size of a building which makes it sometimes impossible to slip between them or even go somewhere without bumping into them. Much like a problem with Samurai Warriors 4, there are a few maps which have different names but are pretty much the same. This goes for exploration maps as well. Also, Kunoichi's voice is hella annoying.
Otherwise, Spirit of Sanada is a pretty enjoyable game if you're looking for a story mode experience in Musou style.
gg
by far the best samurai warriors game in the series, my only gripe is that there is no dubbing and no battle log so you need to look down at the screen to see what they are saying and if you miss it, thats that
hell yeah
