Honestly the controller support is toilet water.
you cannot bind the keys and natively all it supports is walking around. Shameful in this day and age. Get another beatem up
This is a fantastic game it would definitely scratch your musou itch if better options weren’t available. This is a classic case of a shoddy PC port. This is most crucially this is seen in the fact that the game does not support Xinput (Xbox) controllers so you will need use a Dinput controller such as a PS4, PS5 or an obscure 3rd party controller such as the Logitech F series controllers. But using a compatible controller does not change the icons on screen so you will need to check the button bindings or manual (or just trial by error it isn't a big deal but annoying).
There are several stability issues, most prominently in one of the campaigns if you use the main partner of that story your game could freeze and crash to desktop several times during at least the first mission. Luckily the game allows you to save during missions which is great.
Another small gripe is the resolution maxes out at 1080p but you can play the game at higher resolutions via upscaling like DLSS or FSR.
Earlier this year (2024) Koei released an enhanced edition of Samurai Warriors 4 called Samurai Warriors 4 DX which adds Xinput support and a lower price compared to 4-II & DLC. I would recommend buying DX over 4-II
This game should have never been ported to PC. None of the controls work with any controller except basic functions like accept/cancel and movement. Worst kind of piece of garbage port from console I have EVER seen. I played the original, and I love the Warriors games, but this is just a disgrace. Koei Tecmo, you should ALL be ashamed of yourselves for this grabass money sink.

Nice game and have side story of main game, but the end of story sometime is bad
I've not played samurai warriors game since samurai warriors 2 came out I beat it on PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360, I was so excited to play samurai warriors 4-II but unfortunately my Xbox Series X\S doesn't work with this game, the controller is brand new only had it for a day, I can tell it works on Samurai Warriors DX because I just bought it on sale and im now playing it and im enjoying it, I would love to play naomasa li in this game but my controller does not work.
trash no controller compatibility for a an xbox controller like the others and all the buttons are changed, the game doesnt want to fit my computer screen until i force it via options changing and the button layout is annoying and completely different from other games not wasting my time remapping all buttons, its obvious they are lazy in their design and dont actually want your money, forget koei utter trash after the last game they just want a quick buck, and no support for their game when its been out for years!!!!!, its sad i have played all samurai warrior and dynasty warrior games, this one is a utter trash heap!!
I almost felt scammed with this game. Neither controllers nor keyboard inputs worked properly. The game is locked at 30 and 60 FPS, with no settings to adjust anything you need.
Additionally, there are unskippable cutscenes that disrupt the flow. It feels like a low-quality port from the Switch with graphics far inferior to Samurai Warriors 2, which I played on the PS2.
I ultimately decided to refund it.
I used to play PS2 versions of this, SW2. It was really fun, this one is more exaggerated and not that fun. Also its so buggy that you can't play split screen, like the char1 controls the camera of the 2nd player, its impossible to play.
