Description
Hayato lived an ordinary life until he wakes up one day with amnesia… and finds himself in a world closer to the video games he plays than the world he remembers.
Fetch quests? Skill points? Respawning after death? It’s all a bit much to accept. A mage named Shiori offers to help him find his way, and with her help, he learns how to fight monsters, perform fetch quests, and put items in a strange metaphysical space called an “inventory.”
Soon he’s ready to take on NPC quests! But the town of Lightshire is in danger from deadly monsters—monsters that can kill you for real. Where did they come from? What is behind the attacks? Hayato and Shiori are determined to find out, and no matter what they encounter—from high-level dungeons to argumentative party members—they won’t stop until they learn the truth.

Ascendant Hearts is a visual novel that was developed by a very small team through a crowfunding effort.
The premise of the story is good and funny - the protagonist is someone "from the real world" who somehow ends up in a RPG fairy tale, with all the cliches and stereotypes associated with them to boot. The game has multiple endings, and is fairly long for the cost, around 15-20 hours of story.
However, the main driving plot and the story dialogue and text in general has an unpolished feel, not surprising given the very small team that is behind the game.
Decent artwork and backgrounds. However, there is not a lot of CGs and character poses and expressions.
Music is generic outsourced music that, while nice enough to listen to, lacks oomph and does not exactly fit the fantasy medieval theme of the story. No voice acting as well.
Interface leaves a little to be desired. History has to be acessed via the menu, cannot jump back, no buttons in the screen, etc.
Overall, a good enough visual novel, and a good effort by the fledging developing team. 7/10
The game begins with a hero with amnesia in a rpg-like world. quick overview:
+lovely designed characters
+nice music
-average,useless & clueless MC with some psychological complexes
-useless/boring plots-maybe satirical?
Things this game is NOT !
-EPIC Story
-RPG
-a good game
At first i thought, nice finally a VN with rpg elements,i was quite wrong, although your choices have an impact-it's not enough. The whole "mainquest" was more like running around aimlessly, searching for clues and accusing other "relevant" NPC's. On the way you're trying to stop your company to fight each other, many events felt forced. Some of those 'conflicts' were like conflicts i had like in my childhood, which sadly is so many years into the past. And it's like, take her side or the other get +1 to profit at the end,the only 'grey' thing in this game is the final boss, and even this way easily solved.
You can probably guess "the mastermind" from the start, it's very one-dimensional,nothing tragic or unforseen happens. The only tragedy with this game is,that i continued till the end in hopes of some major change.
I couldn't be bothered to replay it,since the characters weren't all that memorable and the story was just plain boring-really,i never got this 'kick' you get when the game amazes you.
I should say, that i got the best ending with the rom. option i wanted without ever reloading.
A game which actually has a better plot aspect and similiar idea is Crystalline by PixelFade,Loren the Amazon princess of another dev & some of the other games of the same company,if you search for something like this

7/10: With a generally positive recommendation.
Art is high quality, music serviceable but not particularly noteworthy. Novel part is somewhat intriguing, although it often comes across as unpolished. Setting and overall premise is engaging, but I found it hard to care much about any of the other characters besides the main pink-haired heroine Shiori, since she gets the lion's share of the content and character development. It was at least interesting enough for me to go for all the routes and CG, which I usually don't bother with for visual novels I've lost interest in.
It's an overall decent VN and relatively short so give it a read if you're interested.
love artwork and sprites. the music and the storyline were pretty decent. don't expect anything hardcore because you won't find it here.
We've all experienced games that have abrupt endings that look like the studio ran out of time or money. This game is the exact opposite; it has fully flushed-out storylines that will leave you feeling satisfied.
I've also played Eternal Radiance (by the same developer), and I recommend that game very highly as well. In fact, it's the reason why I bought this game. I look forward to additional titles from Visualnoveler.
Fun game, fun story, cute characters, sexy themes, parody of other RPGs, monsters, villain, comedy, personal conflicts, girls to romance, and interesting "world rules".
While it is quite obviously a parody of the protagonist gets sucked into a fantasy world just like video games, cliche, it is a good story, has great game play, is fun, and a bit sexy.
Your choices matter in how the game ends, and there are different endings.
It was okay, I can't lie, but overall felt very flat and one dimensional. There wasn't enough development of the world, and it felt like reading a children's storybook at times, which is definitely NOT what you want in a vaguely adult visual novel. Most players will have slightly more than 6 brain cells, and will want a somewhat engaging and stimulating story. Many events and situations felt incredibly forced, and I never felt any real attraction between characters.
Alternatively, for a very similar/near identical concept executed in a far better way, check out Crystalline by Pixelfade. It is the best example of this genre I've ever found, and is thoroughly developed in its worldbuilding and relationship progress, with some pretty good fanservice to boot. This game though? Lets just say I'm EXTREMELY glad that I got it on sale.
There are multiple free games with better characterisation, better romance, better worldbuilding, and better graphics out there, though you won't find any of this genre for free. With Crystalline you get what you pay for, a thoroughly enjoyable 20+ hours of gameplay, interaction and development, and I maintain that it is the best money I have ever spent. This game isn't even worth the 10 dollars you have to pay for it for just under 5 hours (if you're a fast reader like me) of underwhelming and mediocre gameplay. Only consider buying it for under 4 dollars, It's really not worth more than that.
TLDR = Good to average visuals, decent game mechanics, but the Devs really should have invested in a decent writer. Try 'Crystalline' for the best possible execution of the same concept, and DO NOT purchase this game for over 4 dollars, it is simply not worth more.
It is a very interesting, relaxing game with a well-done story. Characters are well defined. It is interesting that you can end with any of them, or with none, I would still want the option of ending with all, not just as friends but as a harem.
Hello Steam user who is wondering if this little visual novel is worth their time. I'm going to tell you right now that the short answer is happily yes.The last game I played (if you can even call it that) was so terrible it left a bad taste in my mouth so I'm glad this one is much better.
Pros
– the concept/execution. A visual novel that is a JRPG parody with tons of meta humor and funny characters... Sign me up! As someone who very much loves visual novels and RPGs this was right up my alley. While the story is pretty standard and a little cliché that's kind of the point. I mean how can you make fun of something if it's not even familiar to begin with? Now, if they had done this poorly this most certainly would've been a problem but thankfully the writers here knew exactly what the audience would expect and gave it to them but with a comedic spin.Like the healer keeps expecting to die because she's the innocent healer and therefore – when things get serious – to increase the tension and drama the most innocent one has to die for the most audience sympathy. Or we have the hero hunting veteran who keeps looking for common farm boys, disguised princesses or boys with spiky hair as the hero that going to save Lightshire because it's ALWAYS a common farm boy, disguised princess or someone with spiky hair that saves the day.I could go on but I think I've made my case.
– The humor. As long as you're pretty familiar with RPG tropes and general storytelling tropes this game is a riot. I laughed so hard a few times that I almost stopped breathing.
– The characters. Yes they fall under archetypes but they have enough personality to where they genuinely felt like characters and not just pretty pictures with words attached. If I had to pick a favorite girl it would definitely Shiori. I thought she was the most relatable and her back story is both tragic and needlessly horrible so I was with her right from the get-go. However, I pretty much like most of the characters (with one exception but I'll get to her). They were likable and funny and they felt like they truly belonged in that world.
– The art. Pretty and colorful and would not be out of place in a JRPG. It's not the best I've ever seen of course but definitely above average.
Cons
– Aiko. Believing that she was destined to die first because she was going on a story quest was funny for the first 10 minutes but after a while it got grading and she was genuinely kind of bitchy, like, all the time and not in a funny way like Chise was. Didn't care for Aiko. Her route was a drag.
– No Mira route? While she only plays a big part in the last little chunk of the game, her presence is quite important for the overall story and giving her her own route would've created an interesting dynamic to the otherwise monotonous feel of the endings, not to mention it was clear she had feelings for Hayato anyway so it's not like it would've been that hard to work it in.
– The endings. There are three endings and they all feel lackluster.Either go home, stay in the RPG world permanently or save Mira and get the golden ending where you can travel between both worlds. With such good, clever writing for most of the game this is a real disappointment especially since they all feel like the same ending but with a different girl(or no girl) and the big question of going home or not.
Neutral
– the length. Now I understand that this kind of comity works better with a shorter story but if it was just 20 or 30 minutes longer it probably could've fixed that rushed ending problem. Or, if not, at least given the player more chance to interact with their chosen girl or done some more world building.
– the price. It's 10 bucks so if you don't like it, it's not that much of a waste and if you do like it, it feels like a bargain.
– The music. Fitting but nothing really stands out.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience with this. It's certainly not perfect and there was stuff that could be polished but I don't think it's a bad game. It's not going to be winning any awards for sure but again, that was never the intent. This is just some fluff for the RPG and visual novel fans to enjoy. And honestly I think everyone deserves a little lighthearted adventure every now and again.
What it is...is Not Enough
This one was an odd duck, as least in the VN genre. It can be best summed up as a tale of what Ascendant Hearts is and is not.
It is a fantasy setting. It is not an RPG.
It is an Issekai plot. It is not a power fantasy.
It is a patchable game for some NSFW elements. It is not an Eroge.
It is a Visual Novel.
But, ultimately and unfortunately, for all the things that it is not, it is not a good game.
Anything else after this truth that could be posted would be merely guilding this interesting, but saddening lily.
Side note: Because I mentioned it, I feel duty-bound to advise the reader of a bug associated with the NSFW patch; Appling said patch will have the unfourtnate side-effect of COMPLETELY FILLING the scene Gallery. So watch out for that.
It reminds me of the Bounce series of VN's without the sex or fan service. LOL--It has a few jokes about the conventions of R.P.G's in general. But the funniest joke was that I was sitting there playing it waiting for something to happen. There is one scene that would be considered immoral by strict moral people and but for that one scene i could give it to my 12 year old grand daughter. It reminds me of the old He-Man cartoons with a moral at the end that my kids used to watch. I don't want to down vote it because I was clearly not the target audience.
This is an interesting visual novel. It parodies a lot of RPG and MMO tropes. Anyway, the basis is that Hayato (from our world, I think) ends up in a fantasy world... with no memory of where he came from. And he definitely does not understand the rulees of this world.
This is a funny read, and can be heartwarming and exciting in spots. Also, there is a free patch that allows for... some of the CGs to be a bit more revealing. Including one that parodies how the armor on females works for protective ability... (Less armor, higher defense and attack.)
For how short it is, I may recommend getting it on discount, but it still is decent enough.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and am very happy with my purchase :)
Go Shiori! ;D
The story is pretty good, it felt very immersive. The humor is pure gold, the fact that the story shows self awareness at times about it being in a game world is really amusing xD
Even the support characters are very interesting and relatable. The story is quite lengthy, which is awesome. When you think about it, this game contains a lot more dialogue and story than a lot of RPG, plus you don't need to wait to experience it by grinding. A nice change of pace, and I loved the experience.
I look forward to seeing more projects from this dev team :)
So- this game is not what I expected. I really enjoyed this game, but I will go with the Pro/Con format:
PROs:
- The story is actually pretty good. There's some logic jumps, but it starts out rather humorous.
- Art is not what I'd call fantastic, but it is definitely good.
- The 'Auto' mode is actually pretty dynamic based on the amount of text on screen.
- Beautiful and varied backgrounds.
- You can really empathize with some characters throughout the story.
- The 'Skip' mechanic is very nice.
CONs:
- This is definitely more story than it is an interactive story. There's a ton of points where you'll be the focus of the conversation, easily opening it up for player response, but it never comes. I can't tell if it was laziness or just poor decision making on the part of the developer.
- While the art is good, there's some gripes. Other character proportions are not consistent throughout. Some of the scenes resolution seem to vary, which is jarring.
- Severe lack of "outcome images". There's a few reasons I play games like this, but one of which is the choice resolution outcome imagery. There's only like 2 and half pages here. Very limited.
- Very rare, but there are times where what the text says does not match up with the character's expression on-screen.
- No 'harem' ending.
[*] Lacks in what I would call 'lewd' imagery.
After playing this game with all endings and images, I immediately checked this developer's Steam page for more of this game type- but found there was none. Sad.
This is a great and fun VN not like many of the cheap crap ones you find flooding Steam.
I absolutely love stories of a MC transported to a new magical world surrounded by girls
this is almost as good as PixelFade's Crystalline
Pros
The story is entertaining
Characters are likeable
Beautiful art
Nice Music
Cons
It was so fun it feels short left longing for more
Didn't enjoy the ending as much as the story itself
Missing a Harem Ending route
Ending Spoilerish Wish there was an option to choose to love Mira
Patch is ONLY nudity CG not any added sexual scenes
All in all I would still recommend this game I'd even go as far as giving it an 8/10
well worth it's price
Best 5 hours
Pros
-cute girl
-cute girl
-cute thot
-good ending
-very immersive
-music
Cons
- ....
I honestly cant think of any
I played this game briefly (due to a lack of time AUGH!) and my impressions of this game is EXCELLENT. The character designs are A. The script is B (depending on whether you like the jokes) with few grammatical errors; the script is clearly written by a native English speaker rather than an overseas product with poor Google translation (: . I paid 8 bucks for the game and it's not a bad price for the product. The options (A+) include changing between windowed and full screen, adjustment for sound volume, and text speed plus skipping. The game can be saved an any point (YAY!). There is a quick save and a quick load function. Game devs also provide plenty of slots for normal saves, too. Probably the best feature is the CG gallery. The patch is available from the publisher's website at no cost and works.
Overall, Ascendant Hearts is a very polished game and highly recommended to visual novel fans.
This is a decent if short "transported to another world" / isekai visual novel.
The characters are all very likable and you're given a fair amount of choice throughout the game. The choices you make do make impact throughout the game which is very nice. For example, you can't just snub off everyone then confess to them expecting them to suddenly fall for you in return. Great change of pace.
The game is arounnd ~4 hours if you go for all the achievements. I got this when it was discounted for $8 which is a good pricing for a VN with decent branching to this extent. No ground breaking story break offs but still nice.
The art is pleasing to the eye and though the cg count isn't too high, what's there is nice.
The only real low points are the climax and the ending. After humorously poking at cliches for a majority of the story, it quickly ends on a big cliche that just doesn't feel satisfying.
On that point however, the story throughout and character dialogue was extremely enjoyable. Though its impact will mainly be for those that are at least aware of standard RPG tropes.
Overall, an enjoyable read that I found worth and got a smile out of.
Heads up to those solely lookin for scenes like those in Nekopara or just straight up hentai action
~~~There are none (closest is a couple borderline nudity tease pics)
-Good story to play btw though, excellent rpg feel
