A modern car factory is a near perfect example of efficiency, process-management and flow. A massive army of precision-controlled robots dance to a milimeter-perfect ballet of engineering excellence with perfect timing. Components snake along conveyor belts to a 'just-in-time' ordering system that leaves no pauses, no delay, no confusion or congestion. Nothing exists but the perfect flowing efficiency of high tech car construction...
theory.
In practice, of course, life is not so simple. When you get to grips with your first factory design, it certainly will not feel in a state of pure flow...or profit for that matter. Making a handful of built-to-order cars and breaking even is one thing...but competing with the big multinationals and churning out thousands of cars for the mass market is a whole new ballgame.
To win market share from the big companies you are going to need planning, an appreciation of future technology, a careful eye on your bottom line, and an ability to design a factory layout that makes use of every square meter, and cuts production costs per car to the absolute minimum. Have you got what it takes to win?
Production line is the new car factory management/simulation/tycoon game from Positech Games, the developers of Democracy & Gratuitous Space Battles, and publishers of Big Pharma. This game is designed to appeal to the efficiency geek in all of us, the person who cannot help but organize things for maximum performance. The closet entrepreneur, the stats-geek, Is that you? if so...welcome to your dream game (we hope!)
The key to understanding production line is the division of labor and the merits of purpose-built machinery. At the start, your factory will be small and the individual slots on your production line will carry out large complex tasks (like fitting the car body). As you research better methods, and earn the funds to expand, you will continue to subdivide those slots into smaller (and faster) production areas which keep the flow of new vehicles flowing smoothly. At the same time, product design researchers will be working out how to enhance your cars with new technologies such as automatic headlights, power steering, bluetooth phone support and voice recognition.
its a race to be productive AND a race to be profitable. Are you ready to compete?

I really loved this game but recent updates have made it unplayable. The UI / text is so tiny and thin it creates graphical errors and makes everything very difficult to read, no options to increase text size / weight.... Seems to be a a lot of other crash issues at the time of this post as well. Too bad I was looking forward to playing it......
Game is really fun if you like automation and designing factories. Sadly since 2019 there aren't any updates and game crashes on load on windows 11 despite my best efforts to keep playing.
I bought Production Line a while ago and just started playing it recently with racking up 72 hours on it and counting. It is an older game but if you are into tycoon like games then It is a solid buy!
At first I wasn't a huge fan, I had a few moments of confusion, The basic set up is pretty self explanatory which was a plus and they do offer in game tips which are necessary early on, but I would get stuck on certain things (Mostly manufacturing and stock pile set up). The in game guide provides bare bones information with little/poor explanations on and the forums that exist aren't to shabby either. Once i overcame that and figured it all out the game got addicting and highly enjoyable.
They offer a variety of factory scenarios from sandbox, competing with AI rivals and a few others that I haven't delved into just yet myself but slowly working my way to them all. You have the option to start off in factories of various major cities (Detroit, Atlanta, Etc.) All with different factory layouts and you essentially have to get your business up and running. Seems easy but once you factor in the money of it all that is what gives the game the biggest strategy and in hindsight is the essence of the car industry (and capitalism). I would recommend playing sandbox mode first after the intro tutorial just to make sure you got everything down in relation to the set up and placement of the materials within the game. That way once you set up for the scenarios and factory modes you don't go bankrupt and get frustrated and never want to play again lmao. Once you got a handle on it all, the fun of the game really sets in and you get lost in the sauce and you lose sense of time.
I do believe there is a DLC to the game for added car designs which is nice I guess, but It isn't necessary for the actual enhancement to the game. In my personal opinion you could save yourself the $10 dollars and put it elsewhere or wait for it to be on sale.
Chalenging gane, but lots of fun.
This might have been a fun thing in a world where Dyson Sphere Program and Factorio and all the others live. But we are in this world. I could never even get started with this. Save your money.
Awesome game, the developer seems so nice!
Simple but not-so-simple game. I just love it!
Very well designed game
This is a great assembly line/production game. I really wish the developer would add more to it. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of a game here, I like it so much that I wish there was more.
4/10
While not a horrible game, there is a LOT of room for improvement, and is not worth anywhere near the normal price. This should be a $5 game with $1 DLC.
This game puts far too much importantance on marketing functions, while organic visibility is far lower than it should be. I've had 70% of the market share for the majority of a game with perfect reliability on vehicles that have far more features than the competition, but my brand awarness is only 5%. How can I be selling 7/10 vehicles long term but be almost completely unknown? Then marketing can bring your company's brand awareness above 100%, how does that work?
The value of some features is out of balance. A basic electric motor is valued much higher than a "Super Fast Engine" as if nobody would want a normal sports car. Meanwhile the market value of a large battery pack is half the cost of the large battery pack, costing you money if you add it to a vehicle, plus it cannot be used with a hybrid vehicle.
Some of the stats listed are wrong, for example the Fit Front Axle says it takes 2:33 to install the front axel, when it's actually around 2 minutes. This makes it difficult to improve the efficiency of your line since you have to guess how long any step will take.
The research options are also wildly unbalanced. Basic features can take longer to research than advanced features. A heater takes as long to research as Automatic Windscreen Wipers. Driver air bag takes 3x as long to research, as does ABS, a Spare Tire, and Adaptive Cruise control. Passenger Airbag is a separate, more expensive research item, and Side Airbags take even longer. A self driving car has a shorter research time than a Fast Engine.
While not the worst game out there, this is completely overpriced and barely worth the time to play.
Very fun game, easy to pickup and put down. But also difficult and satisfying. So far so good!
iNCREDIBLE!
Wish the market was more stable. Component costs and wages are hard to track. Still learning though and love the game.
Good game, just a few more information about some stats
good to build cars
Super fun game if you enjoy tycoons/production line games! Difficult at first but very fun
Full of bugs, abandoned, bad design, don't buy. This is a massive disappointment. Stay away
Fun automation game by a solo dev. I honestly wish there were more like this that explored more or different products such as planes or appliances or electronics. Its a fun early entry into the genre that I think gets overlooked.
Fun game, I learned a lot :)
Addicted.
This game is just odd...in so many ways....there's just too many things about the UI that I find super inconvenient and strange.
for example:
1. why is the tutorial messages in the top left corner? usually tutorial messages appear in the lower middle....like you know...where it's comfortable to read a bunch of text.
2. the organization of the production line sequence and sub sequences is just so oddly identified and so tightly spaced, and a lack of tracking/highlighting where you are in a sequence, and separating sub-sequence from main sequence is just not noticeable enough.
3. "efficiency is everything" is such an odd claim to make based on this game. If you're naturally efficient, you're just going to immediately saturate what the market can support.
4. tutorial doesn't seem to explain sub-sequences very well, I was confused for a bit.
5. developer labeled date locale on each save games for clarity, instead of spelling out the months, using an ISO standard, or just pulling the systems locale...
6. there's some mention of other car companies, but it just seems all random, doesn't seem to impact anything. Most of the time you're just clicking research, and trying to figure out how to connect what you did in research to the right building in your factory, just really janky.
I get the feeling that someone designed this game for 800x600 instead of 1440p or higher resolutions. I also just feel there there's something strange about this game design, just seems like inexperience. It's not really bad, but it's also not recommendable, definitely not a $30 game, more like a $5 game.
Very satisfying to play, i love the soundtrack so much !
Gabe. Please add neutral reviews. Good game but it's sorta 4 step process 1. a play it once 2. have fun 3. have it sit in your library for years. 4. Find it in the library and repeat. BUT if you DON'T own satisfactory (and have 1000+ hours on it) Then maybe you'll play it more i dunno. Pretty good game though.
