World Builder

The controls make no sense and are horribly non-intuitive. Its un-playable with Index controllers. Definitely wait to purchase this one till the bugs are all sorted out. It'd be easier to just learn Unity at this point. Its frustrating, because the idea is great. build a world that you can then explore in VR. This needs work.

So, first impressions. I will try to remember to come back and revise this after playing with it some more.

This is written with a half-hour of tinkering on 2018-JAN-13.

In short - this is a great concept, it has a significant amount of potential (especially if it later obtains the added feature of exporting created environments for our own rooms or to share with others so we can use them as VR start spaces in Steam), and I look forward to variants on the starting spaces (eg, spherical world, confined box, etc).

If you're looking for something to play with that is affordable and priced in a range that reflects its current state of development, then this is it. This program is rough around the edges, but has great promise. Personally $10 is plenty fair for this product, even if just to make cool scenes for screen shots and to get used to building in VR space.

Is it perfect? No.
Is it enjoyable? In my opinion, yes.
Is it easy to use? For the most part, yes.
Is it intuitive? Yes and no.
Does it have potential? Absolutely, yes.

- The movement is fairly smooth for moving objects around.
- The control of objects is fairly straight-forward, however there is lots of room for improvement.
- Opening and closing some menus is fantastically easy, others difficult.
- Range of objects with which to build right out of the box are pretty broad, which makes it enjoyable.
- Currently there is only realistic and low poly "worlds" to play with - these appear as flat square planes rather than as globes. There is a third, cartoon world, in the works.
- The teleport option doesn't function, I imagine this is meant to teleport to where you're pointing.
- The trackpad movement is nauseating and terribly intuitive.
- Having the ability to use both controlers to simultaneously manipulate objects (eg, grab and hold with one, then tweak with the other such as nudging it from the location it is held would be good).
- Turning gravity off still lets some objects drift.
- Items lack a snap to surface (eg, trees to mountains) and similarly, it is not immediately clear if you can sink items into another or not (such as placing a mountain - they'll overlap as long as the targets don't touch the other object.
- The options menu needs to be significantly more detailed.
- Being able to look directly at the controllers to maintain clarity of image (since only direct line of sight offers clear images).
- All menus are not currently accessible in a unified location, and like most games and VR programs, buttons are not customizable as of yet.
- Menu optimization definitely needs work. Balancing between controllers would be helpful, as would customizability.

Very nicely done! The coolest stuff I've seen in VR are the design apps, and this is one of the best so far. The feature set was far more developed that I was expecting for early access.

FIX this problem!

If you watch the video and are expecting the gameplay to be the same you will be disappointed. There are features in the video and pictures that are not yet available in the game and it runs at about 24 fps if you choose to create a realistic world. The game may continue to improve but I would not suggest purchasing it at this time.

I have some mixed feedback, being a game developer myself this is for me nothing but a map editor and I do not see the goal of it other than something that resembles work :P But I cannot give any bad review as I guess this would be fun for most people, it works and it should be fun. The only issue I can think of so far is the tutorial, not getting into detail... However, if this was a TOOL with the ability to export, it would really be something.

This is a great idea. A World Builder. It's still buggy at the moment though. The controls are not easy to use and my computer system keeps on crashing using it at this time - GTX 980, 6700mhz processor, 32gb RAM. I'm using the latest Nvidia 378.92 drivers. Also tried it with previous drivers and it still crashes at seemingly random times.

I could not actually get the tutorial to work. There were some instructions from the floating robot at the beginning however when the world started to begin creation there were no instructions on how to proceed. Could not figure out how to make myself huge by holding down the trigger buttons and swipe outwards. I saw that the field of view was reduced doing this but nothing changed in the world view.

I decided to just play around with it at this point. Still could not figure out how to spawn things so I just kept on clicking in the menu and found I could actually rez objects without actually knowing how they rezzed. Seems like at the moment you need to keep on clicking and hold down for it to work. I still can't figure it out at the moment regarding the controls. Looks very similar to Tilt Brush and how they have done it. If it can work like Tilt Brush this will be a winner.

I managed to rez a building, grass, water, some trees, change the sky environment, add some rain, then an old boat and I was really happy at this point then it crashed. I needed to restart Steam and all the stuff I was adding was gone. I was very sad at this point. I know it's only about 30 mins of work but I created it and and it was lost forever.

This is truly an excellent idea for anyone to create worlds within their own imagination. OMG I'm going back to "Second Life" where the ability to do this started and this looks like the perfect solution in VR.

Making it easy for anyone without technical skills opens up a whole new dimension.

I'm not sure on the engine used, images in world have that outer outline causing a strobing, flashing effect outlining objects in scene.

It is definitely a cool new project and with it's bugs during testing I'm still giving this 10/10 for imagination.

I will change this review as this is improved and if I missed something in the editor.

- Touchpad movement doesn't work. At all. Like maybe when you're zoomed in or something, but not when you're editing the map
- If you zoom out too far it goes increadibly laggy
- Sometimes when you open menus it goes increadibly laggy

Finally a VR app that is actually usable! This app is still very early in development but if they execute on it well, it could completely change the way game developers and 3D artists think about scene creation. Some of the controls are still a bit wonky and there is a long way to go but absolutely spot on with the concept and great work so far. Would love to see some of the UI a bit more similar to Tilt Brush and the ability to tie into a Unity/C4D workflow. Great work so far guys.

This game is exactly what I was looking for and the developer is very involved in making it better. Not only did he reply to a thread in Reddit to discuss when it would be released as well as what it would cost, but he replied to a review of his product within 24hrs with a minor update to solve the scale issue.

If you are looking for a world building sandbox to play in, I think this is your game! If you are wary about testing out an early access game, this one is already well worth the price and can only get better from here. It isn't 100% polished yet, but there are few things that leap out at you while you're playing it, and nothing that I consider damaging to your ability to play!

While still in early access, the dev is driven to bring an even better experience through future patches/content updates.
This guy has been hard at work making World Builder for many months and will continue to improve upon it.

Here's my review;
Guruji VR's World Builder is a creator's sandbox. World Builder is perfect for those that have a scene or setting in mind. Like me, maybe you have a fantasy world in mind that you want to experience in VR. I'm writing a sci-fi/fantasy story and this is the perfect tool to visualize my worlds, environments and moods!

Creating random worlds is fun with simple controls that once used a couple times, feel intuitive and easy to reuse for general functions;
Scaling the Player for example is as easy as holding your grips and pulling your hands away from each other.
You can adjust everything in your environment, from weather to terrain height and water level. It's clearly an early access game as there is room for improvement, but I cant wait to see what's to come in being able to create truely unique worlds.

Very good overall! Great and helpful tutorial; mostly intuitive controls. Lots of fun to instantaly morph the landscape. And I loved the light/weather stuff, tons of . Really awesome possibilities. Negatives- biggest one for me is the lack of a scale indicator. There needs to be a constant reference to scale. As it is now, houses will be huuuuge, like comically big, compared to some trees I spawned earlier. That's not intuitive and right now makes creating scenes too clumsy and frustrating to fuss with, but I assumet that will be soon corrected. And somebody with more patience could probably make it work as it is now. A bit too much use of the grip buttons, but that's a very subjective thing.. I'll keep coming back to this because there is a ton of potential, and it's already a very cool, easy-to-use world creation app in v.
