          The idea is great.
          But the graphics and animations are outdated.
          The game crashes sometimes with a "Fatal error" and you have to restart the level.

          This is an early VR game from 2018 that has too many issues. As many others have noted in the reviews, the spell casting system is just way too unreliable. Most often it works, but then sometimes it doesn't. The problem is that you get killed very easily when the spells do not work and you must then replay lengthy sections of the game over and over again. This is because the checkpoint system doesn't work properly and you are only given the choice to restart the entire level. As also mentioned in the reviews, enemy death animations are absolutely awful and extremely choppy. The problem I experienced with these animations is that often the game would freeze up in a fatal error because there are too many enemies on screen with these terrible animations. There are also constant frame rate drops in this game. Overall, the entire experience is just too unstable and buggy to enjoy and I cannot recommend it.

          I have played this game for 1.5 hours and it sucks
          here is why:
          1. sound will randomly stop working
          2. multiple times during the tutorial level I encountered a bag that won't let me call the spell that I was told to use be the tutorial, restarting the game solved it..
          3. still couldn't call fireball reliably after 1.5 hours of playing, could call on the fireball only like 50% of the time.
          4. in the first level I couldn't find how to proceed no help from the guide, nothing. this is just bad game design.

          This is a lot of fun. The gesture based spell casting is amazing, fits *PERFECTLY* in VR, and Arcane Missiles is my favorite spell, it feels super authentic.

          That said, the enemy graphics are trash and sound design is the Worst (Literally can't tell when something is coming up next to you because the enemies are silent except for some like hard to locate gargle sounds), but still somehow I absolutely love it.

          7/10 lots of fun, hoping the Dark Times expansion solves some of my headaches with this.

          It's nice intro into VR, but by today's standards it's graphics and gameplay starts to get dated.
          Pros:
          * Ok wave shooter (spells and enemies);
          * Some exploration to unlock skillpoints;
          * 1st boss is fun.
          Cons:
          * Very few enemies - by second level you have seen all of monster variation. One of monsters is just cheap ranged hit-scan type you want to kill fast;
          * Only 2 spells are actually usable for killing - 1 for single target, 1 for masses of goblins. Other spells do near to no damage or have long cooldowns;
          * Final chapter (DLC I guess) is crap - you get skill you can't activate on will, you have to charge it near some pillar to kill otherwise immune mobs. Pair that with previously mentioned hit-scan enemies and you have very annoying experience;
          * Only 1st boss is fun. 2nd "boss" is just more waves of enemies with limited heals available. Last boss is immune to everything but his own fireball, so you have to spec in shield reflect... when will devs learn, that people hate immunity phases / immune bosses and/or mobs?

          Verdict: first 2 chapters are almost good: 6.5/10, but due to last chapter it's more like 5.5/10 so barely recommended.
          If you want better wave shooter - get Raw Data.

          This is an obsolete game from the earlier day of VR trying to find it's gaming potential. I regret having bought this even with the discount. If the technic is good the gameplay mechanics are boring. The bow works well, the spells are cool but gameplay wise the whole thing just feels off it's just lacks the excitment I am already used to get in VR.

          A nice adventure with magic, with some humor mixed into it. Where you feel like you are a real wizard, casting spells as fast you can while enemies are trying to gang up on you. Once you start, you cannot stop playing.
          The only problem, for me anyway, is that all the nice magic effects tends to tire my eyes after more than an hour of game-play. But after an hour or 2 of resting them, I am back in it trying to be the wizard there could be. The challenges is also worth it as you vie for achievements in the game. I truly recommend this.

          This is the first VR game I played that was worthwhile and the first one I can recommend buying at full price.

          I do have some critiques though. Having to go through 4-5 windows every single time you start the game, such as choosing which hand is your primary is very tedious.

          Secondly and a little more serious critique. There was a puzzle in the desert you had to solve to obtain a new source of Ether. The platform the Ether is on cannot be teleported to. I wasted 20 minutes looking for a solution online and couldn't find one. I had almost completely given up on the game when I discovered I needed to turn on "walking" and not teleporting to reach the Ether. It's the only part of the game that walking is required and once I realized the game was instantly better. Teleporting should NOT be the default.

          So if you do play this game, please do yourself a favor and just turn on walking AND teleport in the settings.

          This is pretty much the motion controls what I hoped for with "spells in VR". Now I just want someone to create an Avatar version of this with water-, fire-, earth- and airbending.

          I've been pretty tired of VR games for a while but I had a good time playing this game. The fights are wave/arena style like every VR game but I didn't mind because the fighting mechanics were really fun and unique. Level design and art assets were top notch. I had a lot of fun playing it, just felt like the gameplay was cut short. It's very similar to Mage's Tale, so here's a quick comparison.

          The Wizards:
          4 hrs gameplay
          Few puzzles, all easy
          Fun and varied spell casting gestures
          Fights were pretty easy. I barely took damage the whole game

          Mages Tale:
          8 hrs gameplay
          Lots of great and challenging puzzles
          Combat was okay, but all spells were basically just throwing motions or holding your hand out
          Fights got harder throughout the game

          A good game for magic lovers. The advantages of VR controllers are well used. However, there is one big problem. The more enemies attack you, the worse the spells work. Developers on the forum explain this by saying that when FPS drops, the accuracy of gesture recognition deteriorates. My PC meets the recommended system requirements and even slightly exceeds them. I have reduced all the graphics parameters to a minimum, but the problem persists. So be prepared for the fact that when you run a horde of goblins, then you will stop working lightning, shield, bow, and you will have to throw only fireballs, because only they more or less work reliably. There are also smaller bugs. For example, when you exit a game, your language settings are not saved. It is also impossible to transfer an object from one hand to the other.

          This.

          This is what VR should be. The last time I felt this badass was the first time I cast fire and lightning spells in Skyrim.
          I FEEL POWERFUL in this game! The spells are fun, but easy to cast, and the way they lock on to where you're looking is just awesome.
          Great voice acting and just plain fun gameplay.

          Seriously, do yourself a favour and just buy this. Its awesome!

          I want to recommend this game, but I can't. I enjoyed playing The Wizards initially, but the annoyances build up over time and become unbearable. (#1) The main issue is that if you die, you don't get to start at what seems like the most recent checkpoint; you have to start the whole level over. (#2) Another major issue I have relates to casting. You learn the spells, you practice them and feel comfortable, then you play a level where you go through a couple of what seem like checkpoints performing flawlessly - you could swear you can cast these spells in your sleep as you fell your enemies with aplomb. But you get to a certain point in the level where the difficulty has mounted and all of a sudden the casting motions don't seem to work anymore. You were literally just casting like a pro two minutes ago, now you're flailing around with your hands trying to get the spell to work, and of course you lose all your health and die. Now, because of issue #1, you end up having to start the level again.

          Absolutely stunning, almost perfect in every way - I've been playing VR titles for several years and this one is one of the most polished VR titles that I have ever seen. If you haven't picked it up yet then you owe it to yourself to do so. I wish it was longer, I also wish there was a sequel. Just buy this game already!

          It's super fun being able to cast all the spells (which makes you feel like a total bad#@&!), and it's very obvious that much time and care has gone into the development of this game, so bravo there. However, the combat is nearly unbearable! This is primarily for three reasons: 1) I have no idea where I'm being hit from. I feel this could be best solved by implementing "true 3d sound." What I mean by this is better define the origns of your sound elements; this eliminates the scenario of " *hear enemy growl somewhere above me and to my right* Oh! there's an enemy... where the F!@# is it? *get hit from seemilgly nowhere, turn around to see enemy* well, I guess it's there then. *proceed to toteleport/run around in a circle like a madman, occasionally turning around to lob a fire ball* " This leads me into problem 2) the "battlefeilds." The issue here is the places where battles take place, for the most part, are very overwhelming. What I mean by this is that there are often great hoards of baddies chasing you in a relatively crowded circular space, while your being shot with AoE fireballs from somewhere above you. This usualy results in the following battle plan (now, granted, indeed I did not major in Wizard Tactics while at wizard school, but I feel this is a common stratagem among players) 1) Teleport to one 'side' of the battle area 2) cast all the things at the massive gaggle of enemies chasing you 3) realize your being shot at with fireballs 4) look for who's shooting you and shoot/deflect back 5) realize the gaggle you were previously running from is now on top of you, and is proceeding to beat the everloving s%!# out of you 6) teleport away from them 7) rince and repeat until everything dies. To fix this problem, I'd recomend implementing some sort of cover/vantage points. These could exist in many forms; for one instance, you can place some sort of small walls of destructable crates and barrels strewn about the battle feild. The player could then hide behind these for a short time, while the enemy hits it a few times, then it breaks. 3) For the last issue I have, let's go back to the "battle plan" brought up previously; In some cases, after step one of "Teleport to one 'side' of the battle area," you attempt to "cast all the things at the massive gaggle of enemies chasing you," however, this time you find all your spells flying off to nowhere. You then see a "spell-catcher orb." So, in order to acctually hit your enimies again, you need to shoot lightning at the thing (technnically speaking, you could also shoot is with the ice bow, but, unless your name is Legolas, your not hitting a sphere moving at seemingly 50mph with a bow and arrow) but, oh wait! While the lightning looks like it's hitting it, nothing's happening; your out of range. So now, you have to teleport to the middle of all the enimies so that you can hit this thing, and acctually start doing damage to it. the simplest fix I can think of for this is, simply, increase the range of the lnghtning spell. So, on the whole, while this game has a lot of fun mechanics, combat is minimally 50% of it, thus I cannot recomend the game until these things are adressed.

          I really like the idea of playing as a wizard in VR so this game succeeded very well in that aspect. All of the spells are really cool, with the crystal darts being my favorite. Like most VR games, its relatively short for a game and most levels have you walking from combat point to combat point where you kill a bunch of enemies which allows you to move on to the next area. I was a bit disappointed to see that a wizard game didn't really have any puzzles, which I feel like is a very important aspect of that archetype. But for all my gripes I had a lot of fun fighting creatures and honing my ability to weave different spells in quick succesion by using the different hand motions. I hope this developer evolves this concept into something greater and more refined vis-a-vis exploration, controls for spells that are a little more receptive, more in depth progression and customization of abilities, and most importantly puzzles. Please put puzzles in your VR wizard games, y'all.

          First off, let's start off with saying that The Wizards is 'Gesture-based'. That means the spells you cast are directly influenced by your own hand movements. It's incredibly satisfying to go from spell to spell, hurling fireballs one second to pulling out a divine shield to save yourself from an arrow to the face. It's important to note that the gestures are all unique, and as long as you don't panic, you'll be a master wizard in no time!

          MOVEMENT: Movement is an incredibly huge deal in VR with regards to motion sickness. In most other experiences, you choose between locomotion and teleportation. The Wizards allows for both of these simulatenously, and IT WORKS! Teleporting isn't a basic "movement" mechanic. It's another spell at your disposal to use on the horde of monsters.

          The Wizards is a really fun VR title that I definitely recommend playing. Throwing fireballs and casting spells in The Wizards feels a bit like being Harry Potter, and the variety of spells gives you plenty of options in taking out your enemies. I've played this on the Vive, the Rift, and Samsung's Windows Mixed Reality headset, and I think it plays best on the Rift. The Touch controls work much better for those, like me, who prefer full locomotion. However, Samsung's Mixed Reality headset is where you really get a chance to admire some of the artwork that appears in The Wizards. Take a good look at those modifier cards, and you'll see what I mean! Overall, it's a really fun experience!

          So far this is one of my favorite VR games.

          Pros:
          - Movement. Rather than limiting me to just teleport OR free movement, it allows both simultaniously (right teleports, left is free movement) as well as all the normal free movement that full room VR gives. This is useful in many of the combat situations (teleport out of a tight situation and hit the ground running). I wish more of the other games I have tried used a similar system. Teleporting even makes sense in the overall larger context of the game, it is just one of the spells you cast as a wizard rather than an akward movement mechanism.
          - Gester based control. I really liked this mechanic. The main problem with gesture control is when you learn a gesture wrong ("Swish and flick, remember, swish and flick"). Luckally they have a practice range to review the gesters and practice. I initially learned the shield gesture wrong so had to go back and relearn it.
          - Great environments. Many of the environments in game are great. The view from the main wizards quarters, navigating the duststorms, etc.

          Cons:
          - Low on the content side. This may be rectified soon since it is early access and more content is coming from what I have heard from the developer. From what there is now it is a good self contained short game, but it seems like a proof of concept for something much larger.

          It's definitely a game, and you can play it, but it does nothing to set it apart.

          Really, in it's core, this game is another wave shooter. The only difference is, you have to walk from one wave to the other. The gestures for casting spells works well enough, and I won't lie and say that I didn't audibly say "oh, sick", out loud the first time I conjured a bow and arrow with nothing but my hands, but the problem is that it offers nothing beyond this base level of interaction. The game loop is very, very simplistic, and it only took about 4 levels before I became bored.

          1. Walk to an open area.
          2. Kill enemies.
          3. Walk to next area.
          4. Repeat.

          Sure, there are props you can pick up, but they don't *do* anything. In fact, they don't even collide with the world while you're holding them. All there is to do is walk from one place to another and throw fireballs at orcs.

          Also, the combat is boring. The first couple of times you're lobbing fireballs at goblins is entertaining enough, but it very quickly becomes repetitive. After I unlocked the lightning spell, all combat was completely trivialized (and it already felt trivial beforehand).

          I was expecting some way to actually interact with the environment itself using the spells, and there technically *are* a couple ways, but they're more of a chore than anything interesting. The first time you watch a wall crumble as you pelt it with fireballs was actually pretty cool! But then when you have to do it over, and over, and over again, and each time is the exact same, it becomes more of a chore than an interesting way to interact with the world. I was similarly disappointed to find a body of water, expecting my ice bow to freeze it to allow me to walk over it, or anything like that, only to find out that, no, it does nothing.

          In the end, this game has some mildly interesting mechanics, but doesn't really take advantage of the platform to really immerse you in any kind of world. The environments you walk around, while decently pretty to look at, are nothing more than a series of boring, linear, sterile corridors, ushering you from one tedious combat encounter to the next. And no, littering the level with inconsequential physics props doesn't do anything but make me wish that they actually did something interesting.

          If you're looking for an in-depth, VR wizard simulator like I was, this isn't your game. If you're looking for what amounts to a simple arcade shooter with a wizard coat of paint, you might enjoy it.

          First off, let me say that most of the negative reviews for this game are due to the teleportation-only movement system. However, since the developers of the game have been so receptive to feedback from the players, they are implementing free movement into the game ahead of their scheduled updates.

          On the spellcasting system, it does takes some getting used to. Before you head into the heat of battle you need to spend some time practicing. Once you get the hang of it, and know all of the spells available, the game becomes much more fun and immersive and the battles require some genuine strategy.

          The world looks wonderful and the voice acting is amazing, all in all this is a game worth checking out.

          *Edit*

          Free movement is added and it is PHENOMENAL! The developers have also added new areas, items to discover, and even some puzzles which really encourages the player to explore.
