Passpartout: The Starving Artist

I bought this game years ago when I watched someone online play through it, and I thought it looked fun, but after playing it, I quickly discovered that I really didn't enjoy it. After leaving it untouched for years, I tried picking it up again, and still just couldn't get into it.

This game is extremely simple, and essentially just gives you a blank canvas and asks you to create art. However, there's a few things that really frustrate me with how this game is played:

• The tools the game provides you to draw your art are extremely primitive. Drawing with a mouse isn't very fun, and you can't control much other than your colour and the brush size. You can unlock some more advanced tools later in the game, but even those still feel very primitive. I'm not claiming to be some sort of amazing artist, but it's very frustrating when I feel like my art isn't turning out how I'd like because of the extremely limited tools rather than my artistic skill.
  
• The game constantly berates you for your art. I understand that the criticisms are likely based on what the NPCs actually want, and this probably a decent representation of how artists online actually feel, but I don't enjoy spending lots of time on a piece of art only to have to sit and listen to constant negative remarks about how bad it is because it didn't match whatever criteria the game decided my art didn't meet.
  
[*] The game doesn't really communicate what it's expecting from you. The different NPCs do actually have different preferences for what they want to see in your art, but this is barely communicated in the game, if at all, so you're often left guessing, and you can sometimes spend a long time on art that you think looks good, only for no one to buy it because some mysterious criteria didn't get met.

My Paintings suck but they still buy them 8/10

The game expects you to come up with dozens of original paintings on the fly, so you cant keep painting phalluses when you run out of ideas.

Game abruptly deleted my painting without at least letting me be able to save a picture of it because I ran out of money. I ran out of money because nobody would buy my first painting because it was pink

its fun and stuff but grinding achivemnets is a lil boring. Also its not for people who have artblock :'D

It says it runs for mac... but it crashes immediately as it loads. I have troubleshooted almost every issue(and my mac is exceeding every single recommended processing request it requires). Sadly, I cannot play it.

I bought this game because my favorite YouTuber at the time played it and had so much fun with it. I’m not really sure what I was thinking, especially since I can’t even draw a stick figure, but hey, it’s a great game. 10/10 would recommend.

i bought this game when I was about 15 years old and i have no idea what i was thinking i don't even know how to draw i'm the opposite of artistic my drawings are on a first grade level

fun game to mess around in but lacks replayability outside of just, well, painting I guess. You can play most of the game on MsPaint or if you know where to look, pirated photoshop. The progression system gives you a sense of reward I guess if you're looking for that.

I wouldn't recommend buying it for anymore than 5$

You'll be called a "Sellout" by the NPCs for most of the paintings you put on display but it's a good way to pass time. =)

Wasn't a fan, it got very boring and repetitive quickly. It's basically a worse version of MS paint. I do enjoy art and drawing, but this game just feels like its lacking any sort of direction or purpose especially when there is not many tools or colors available to your disposal.

i have not loaded up this game in years and this mf is still starving.

This game is fun. Sometimes you draw well, sometimes badly. It's all about mood and motivation

This game is just great!! I love the ambient music that plays while you paint. The actual painting interface isn't that bad, you just have to get used to using a mouse. It's a simple game but really inspiring and enjoyable!! I can play for hours at a time without getting bored. Good drawing practice too!

I do not have fun playing this game. It is repetitive and does not seem to have a point.

Very fun and relaxing.

I still have nightmares about the minimalist ending, but drawing is too much fun to let that tarnish the fun

I thought I would enjoy this but it's very repetitive and you have an extremely limited color palette. I'm glad I tried it but I think I'll get a refund.
