My wife said if this review gets 50 likes and 5 awards, she will buy a case of beer, guys help me out.
I personally didn't really enjoy this as a game. The puzzles are too easy to feel good about solving. Or time-consuming just for the sake of it (looking at you, gate maze >.> It wasn't so much a puzzle as just going from one end of the map to the next, and back again).
Also, devs don't really seems to care about it. It's been like 8 years, and there's a bunch of really obvious, easily reproducible bugs. But they make 4 more games before fixing this one :.)
Bruh, we couldn't even finish the game cuz of a nasty bug in Chess lol!
Idk, pretty mid
Good puzzles, was hard and the replayability is great
You and a friend are explorers who have stumbled upon a castle in the snow. One of you explores the castle while the other guides them by deciphering clues in a library. The two of you can only communicate via walkie talkies that you find at the start of the game which creates some fun immersion. There are some scary elements like shadowy figures that follow you and creepy sound effects but it's not that bad.
This game is very fun to play with a friend but you will both have to purchase the game. I recommend playing in different rooms, or at least so that you aren't able to see each others' screens. I ran into some bugs, especially when it comes to audio, and once had to quit and re-enter the game because of a bug that blocked progress. Overall the game isn't too difficult and the co-op shouldn't lead to much frustration as long as both players communicate well and make an effort. It was fun to play the game a second time, swapping roles with the other player and trying to unlock all achievements. You can 100% this game in a few hours (I did it in 3).
There is a teased 'good ending' to get both players out, which heavily implies there is a way to get both players out. there is not.
Whatever my game partner said: *something very positive*
Partner and I were able to finish the game and 100% in some time over 2 hours, we both played both sides and it was a nice experiments. We got spooked by 1) the creatures in the maze and 2) the marionette but honestly,,, not too bad, it was more unexpected than actually scary lol.
It was good fun and a satisfying game to complete.
Absolutely no questions asked, get that free game, we already planning on playing the other parts in the series in a few days.
Though I do have to say that the in-game voice-chat was a bit buggy/uncomfortable to use. We switched to a discord VC rather quickly because we both kept forgetting to press V so that the walky-talkies would work or them simply cutting off and the other person not hearing anything.
Pretty fun co-op puzzle game that acts as a demo to see if you would enjoy the series. Get it with a friend and try it out
This is a really fun, albeit simple and short, puzzle game to play with a friend. It has really great atmosphere and on a first play-through can genuinely feel tense if you don't know what you're getting into.
7.5/10
A fun, simple puzzle game that is a blast to go through with a friend. This game has very good atmosphere and actually managed to keep me on edge at times. Although the puzzles were mostly well thought out I would have liked it if the game was a bit longer though considering this is a free game its easy to forgive. I'm excited to eventually try the rest of the franchise and I give this game a 7.5/10
A game of horrible horrible betrayal and heartbreak or a game where you both know how it ends and neither of you wants to abandon the other so you argue longer than you played through the puzzles about who gets the privilege of sacrificing themself. I love the replayability of being able to switch from your original role and still get an entirely new experience during a second playthrough. 7/10
Perfect and fast game for two!
Fun demo like game definitely try it and you will be hooked to play the whole series
Great idea, TERRIBLY implemented. EVERY puzzle has glitchy instances and unclear interactions. The game also has death instances that require you to restart the lobby with no option to reset without doing so.
SOOO frustrating
My best friend & I have played the entire We Were Here series, and him & I have loved every single one! They get increasingly more challenging & longer with each new game, which was awesome! Might drive you nuts if you can’t communicate well with your co-op partner though, you need one another from start to finish! We have tried to find similar series that are just as good and nothing has even come remotely close! We are going to run through them all again simply because we miss the game play! HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you are looking for a CO-OP puzzle series!
Great series for a casual co-op experience! The games to follow were a bit better in my opinion but this game laid the foundation for such a fun series to come about.
It was pretty easy from an achievement hunter/completionist perspective as well!
For a free game, I think this is certainly worth giving a go with a friend.
wow, what a stressful game with a bad and annoying mechanic, they won't make anymore, right?
I just played this with a buddy. This was a lot of fun. I've never played a game quite like it. Interacting with objects can be a little wonky, especially with a controller. But the puzzles were really neat and test your skills of observation and communication.
Fun game with a chilling ambiance.
Solid game.
Recommended due to being free.
The puzzles were very fun at the start, but very short. Suddenly a difficulty spike occurs, and there are timed challenges. The puzzles are necessarily hard. But the walkie talkie mechanics of not being able to hear each other while the other is also speaking leads to some real frustrations. Beyond that, it was a decently quick game. Probably do 2 runs for all achievements in 2-3 hours.

My friend is both a dungeon master and a game master at an escape room and somehow we still hit snags along the way. So great game.
Very short very simple coop puzzle game that you can chump down in about 2 hours! For a free game it's very fun!
are you fkin kidding me? this is one of the worst games ive ever played, it literally doesnt work, its laggy as f
awesome coop experience
We Were Here has been recommended by this player.
Good game, not as good as the further series, but I recommend playing the whole series.
Played the game with the wife. Had a fight because I lost my temper. We eventually beat the game. Might have affected the future of our marriage, but had fun regardless. 10/10 would recommend.
Fun!
there is no logic here and some checkpoints are missing
Started out as fun but we very quickly encountered a bug during a chess puzzle that kept us from progressing. Restarting and reinstalling the game did not help. Inexcusable for a 7 year old game.
omg hiiii fellow steam users
This game is incredible
A really fun and short coop puzzle game! I recommend the whole series!
This series is great and the price cant be beat.
My friend and I tried to play this and it kept crashing and wouldn't allow us to connect. Very frustrating.
It was a lot of fun to play with my wife. We 100% the game for both of us in 2.5 hours and while the first session we were trying to figure out the puzzles and got a little heated, we beat it! The next playthroughs are fun to see the perspective of the other person. All in all it was a fun indie game, can't wait to play the next ones!
very fun to play with a friend but also annoying at times bc it feels like trial and error but other than that for a free game very fun
Although my partner wants a divorce
Finished my first run with the wife. Really fun game. She doesn't play video games but loves escape rooms and ended up really liking the game. It was the perfect length for the time we have at the end of the day. Giving her Explorer was definitely a challenge for her but we figured it out in under an hour. The timed sections like the Chess and Stage were frustrating since she isn't used to gaming under pressure but she ended up enjoying the total experience.
I wouldn't have wanted to give her librarian since its's much less game play and she would have probably been bored.
The settings are a pain to manage being an older game and the controller support wouldn't work for us.
We played the game sitting next to each other so no comment on the voice chat.
