Good.
Just a nice little game to play on a rainy day. For me at least.
Maybe I just haven't played enough of the game but I didn't get any "distubing" parts? Maybe just knowing that I need to kill those homonculi at some point doesn't make me feel as connected to them.
The story itself is just plain and boring, the main character just "recalls" a thing every now and then and acts like it's the most important revelation of all times or as far as I've played, anyways. It's just very annoying, no intellectual person (as is painted to be, as he is a alchemist/scientist) would react like that. It's just kinda stupid.
I saw the negative reviews but still wanted to give this game a shot, thinking maybe I'd be more interested in this, since it was promised to be disturbing, but it simply isn't.
The gameplay also just gets really repetetive.
The only good thing I can say about this game is that its artstyle is not bad.
I could only recommend this to people that like management games.
It's a nice little game for us with mercury in our veins and a cold chunk of coal where the heart should be.
Genuinely made me feel like a piece of shit, so the developers achieved exactly what they intended.
The first few screams of the girls as I chose to sacrifice them truly rattled me, but later on, when I saw the end goal within reach, I lost any remorse or feeling as I had been engulfed in mania to revive our daughter.
The cycle of abuse, the cold and calloused protagonist, the trial and error, and the pain of the homunculi.
All of this together creates the tense and manic atmosphere that I sunk into as I binged this game attempting not only get the resolution to the story, but also to dive deeper into the details of the homunculi and the steps taken to get to the end.
My Lovely Daughter delivers a dark, gripping tale of grief and sacrifice. The unique art style and melancholic soundtrack create an eerie atmosphere, while managing homunculi and experimenting with alchemy keeps you hooked. The gameplay loop can feel repetitive at times, but the story’s emotional weight makes it worth pushing through.
If you’re into gothic horror and morally complex narratives, this game is an unforgettable experience.
Very enjoyable and accessible short horror game. Kind of a creature collector aspect but like...not wholesome lmao. It's fun piecing together the story, I found the pacing to be well-done and accessible.
It's very emotional, but the core gameplay is repetitive and lacking in substance.
Above all, huge respect to the developers for creating this game.
This game is unsettling, a lot. There are some imagery and text I think nobody is ready for.
Usually I don’t care too much of the warning panels at the beginning of a game, this time, it’s for real.
I am not squeamish and I appreciate when a media don’t pull punches and use normally avoided themes, but I have no shame admitting I stopped summon certain homunculi because their deaths, their letters or interactions made me want to uninstall the game and never open it again.
This is, of course, my personal experience. To each, his own.
Is the game enjoyable? I would use the term “enjoyable “ here in the same way I would use it for “I have no mouth and I must scream” (game or book pick your poison). If you don’t understand this, just ignore this sentence, but I can’t really find another comparison in media I know which comes even near this game.
The game consist in adjusting to a gameplay loop to progress and do what you want. It has a good and “simple” story and the drawings are simply perfect for this kind of game. There is talent behind this entire dev studio and the fact this is the first of three games (at this review time) really speaks for itself.
The game really short (you can clear it in less than ten hours) but to see all the endings you’ll need to restart every time from zero, because the game deletes your file when your story ends (for the bad or the worst).
This is not usually a problem for me but restarting every time is boring after the first time, there are no relevant changes in the gameplay, you already know what to do, when to do and how to do it. The first experience is unique, like the first time you drive a car and you have an accident, I would use this comparison for this game, but the others are just mindless busywork.
There are no roguelike-lite advantages when you begin a new run, you restart and that’s all.
It’s just not worth because there are no variables that make another playtrough “enjoyable” except for obtaining a new ending. There is a “savescum” alternative which is really the best if you want to 100% this game without going through other boring repetitions.
After all of this, why the negative review? Because after all the struggle you endure to reach the end the true ending SUCKS. It’s really awful, absolutely not worth the effort. I mean nobody in his sane mind would expect a “good” ending, of course, but the true ending is bad in the literal sense, it’s awful, it implies a time-travel gimmick which 99% of the times is a bad asspull to justify basically everything removing all the stakes, foreshadow and general logic narrative. This is one of those cases, it’s bad, really, really bad. I expected so much more. I hope the following games are better but this? Absolutely not worth it.
The other endings are pretty much standard but this true ending is absolutely wrong for this story.
"This game is designed to upset and disturb you"
And yes disturbing it is. For a while at least. Because after violently slaughtering you 511th victim is starts becoming a slight repetative. This is something you don't mind at the beginning, but then it comes to getting the "perfect ending" or the last couple of achievements, you are going to be bored. However loving everything about it, especially the meta plot-twist kinda ending Hhh, not gonna tell!

Achievements/Completionist: AAAARGH *ripping hair from my scalp*
Play this game if:
- You want to raise beautiful daughters, naaw
- You want to murder said daughters (for a good cause! or is it?)
- You want to play a different kind of simulation:ish game that will keep you busy and entertained for hours!
Do Not play this game if:
- Murdering makes your eyes cry 3
Verdict: 7.5/10
I really wanted to give this game a thumbs up on the premise and the great characters, but my god, this game is repetitive to the point it feels like you're just trudging along due to sunk cost fallacy and just to see the end.
This is not an easy game to recommend. There isn't a huge amount of content and what there is is a little disturbing. At the heart of it, it's a time and resource management game with a couple of not hugely difficult puzzles to unpick. 8 hours to complete, I can't say I enjoyed it as such, constantly murdering innocent homunculi is actually a drag, but I guess that's part of what makes it good? The story and the grim mechanics make it interesting but you're not going to want to play again. Not one for the squeemish or easily offended. Not one for those looking for a significant time sink. Check out the demo.
The message for the game is shown at the beginning and the game play loop becomes trivial very fast...the art is nice.
I played for almost 4 hours messing around and collecting each homonculus, finally grew tired and looked up the endings on Youtube. The true ending is kind of wonky, but I get it. I really wish they had just made this a visual novel or something else, felt like it would have been more interesting.
I'd say buy the game at a discount like I did, only bought it because I realized I had the sequel. Guess I'm off to try that one out and see if it is any better.
Hell has a boiler room, and this game pulls up to it with shovels.
