A Mortician's Tale is a story-driven death positive video game where you play as a mortician tasked with running a funeral home. Take on the role of recent funeral direction graduate Charlie as she learns the ropes of the business and industry. Prepare the bodies of the deceased (via embalming or cremation), attend their funerals and listen to their loved ones' stories, and interact with Charlie's coworkers, clients, and bosses.
A Mortician's Tale is an informative, honest, and sometimes humorous look at the current state of and the future of the western death industry.
Original soundtrack by Halina Heron.

A Mortician's Tale is a game that explores some of the practices of the death industry. The game does not shy away from how families can be exploited by some funeral homes in the aftermath of their loved ones death.
This game is very short but manages to fit a lot of information and story within the emails that you receive at the start of each game day.
I liked playing A Mortician's Tale because it was informative and got me thinking about how I would like my remains to be taken care of when I pass away. I also learned about the importance of having witnesses when you put forth your will because without witnesses your will is USELESS. This game also shines a light on how predatory the funeral industry can be by showcasing some methods frequently used, which is.... saddening but good to know.
Overall I would recommend A Mortician's Tale because it does have information on the inevitable.
It is a short game that has a beautiful story.
A visual short-story about death that has a distinct feel and some points about death and the "western" (but really, probably US) funeral industry which it makes very clear.
It is well done. The writing style, the music and the graphic style all work. I thought the range of backgrounds of the deceased, and their funeral service scenes, were really well judged.
It is though very simple, very short and couldn't be more than its one hour or so play length without new mechanics or new plot points. There also isn't much subtlety in its point making: the owners aren't just bad, they are *terrible*; the monthly industry email seems like a campaign newsletter that quickly ticks off standard culture topics.
However I certainly don't regret spending a few pounds and an hour or two experiencing it.
It is a cute and relaxing game that in my opinion, handles the sensitive topic of death well. I like the color scheme and art. The game play is simple and easy. This is a chill game
A beautiful and insightful game
A quiet, quasi-visual novel with a mode of play similar to Wunderdoktor, though the vibes are very different. This game is a memento mori from start to finish, and it fulfils said role with grace.
This game presents death from a unique perspective—not as something dark, sad, or fearful, nor as a curiosity or an object of fascination, but rather in a calm, realistic, and serious way. A work that directly addresses the subject of death could even be seen as original and innovative.
Honestly, compared to the themes and objectives the game seeks to explore, its structure is simple, its length is short, its content is limited, and the gameplay experience might feel inadequate to fully capture the gravity of death. Even so, I still think it’s worth experiencing.
very cute game:3 pretty short! i got it on sale so i would def say worth it! cute little death game, lgbtq friendly!!! really liked this game
Short and deeply sweet. Very honest explanation of what happens at funeral homes and what options are available. I especially loved the email aspect, great way to add personality and realism. I loved it :)
- Informative
- Emotional
These are the pillars of which the foundation is built on, of not all games. <3
credits were longer than the game
Short and sweet.
As a person who has gone through the process of the business of death as an administrator of an estate, this was a comforting game to play. I didn't go into this game with the expectation to learn so much, but there was a lot of good information!
Additionally, I really appreciate that there was inclusivity about honoring the memory of trans people in a respectful way.
Overall, this was a cute, quick game with a lot of heart.
its a very fun game, and quite interesting i love that it has informational things and fun facts, also i love this game because i personally want to be a mortician at some point and this game was great
Not much of a game, but a short melancholic experience. A tiny bit overpriced, though I still enjoyed it.
Good game, I am happy they are showing the dark side of funerary service corporations and the benefits of small businesses.
It's a lovely game, but unless you can get it for free, I'd say it's not worth it. When I saw the description said 'short', I didn't imagine it to be this short. Fun game and I liked playing it, but I'm a bit disappointed to have spent the money that I did on this...
Considering the subject matter of this game I thought it was handled particularly sensitively. The pink/purple theme the game has takes away the squeamishness you might have and I thought it was a pretty stellar way of drawing a attention to a job that frankly a lot of us try not to think too much about.
Very cute! But not at full price. Has one of best variations of Minesweeper I've ever played, if you're into that. Sometimes I go on their itch.io page to play just that :)
This is less a game and more an interactive educational presentation about the death industry. I can't really say this game is "fun." The gameplay aspect is minimal and repetitive, except for the optional, extremely hard Minesweeper-type puzzle. But the game is interesting, and you learn a lot about the death industry that you probably didn't know. It's generally presented well and is good for making you think a bit. I don't think it's a masterpiece, but I don't think it's bad, either. It's expensive for what it is, but you can just get it on sale.
