Spooky’s has been recreated in the Unity engine, featuring HD graphics, 3D models, and some new twists and turns along the way. Now with full controller support, Steam trading cards and backgrounds, new specimens, the ability to toggle between the old and new specimen visuals, and Oculus Rift and Vive support. This new version of Spooky’s will also have Endless Mode and all DLC bundled together. This new game will also have a “Build Your Own Mansion” feature integrating with Steam Workshop. There will be both tools in the game to edit rooms and a development SDK that allows players to create new specimen, mechanics, and whatever they desire and share them on the Workshop!
WHY THIS IS A NEW GAME:
As you might know the original Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion was written in GameMaker 8 - which only has the most rudimentary of 3D support. In order to add features like 3D specimens, VR, Mac & Linux ports, and to fix a lot of the nagging issues (like getting stuck on corners) and other much-requested features it has to be rewritten from the ground up! We're taking this opportunity to add all that and more in Unity - which is a modern fully featured natively 3D engine that is a lot easier to work with for this kind of game than old GameMaker.

This is a really good horror game actually. although it says jump scare in the name, there is almost none in the entire game and it has some really good plot twists like the fact that it is not actually a joke but pretends to be at first with it's almost family friendly look it gives at the start but almost right as you hit door 50 is when it turns into a legit horror game.
I've put so much time into playing this that I'm practically considered a specimen now.

This game may be scary at times but I love it. Its good for a horror game.
I played the original game years ago and despised Specimen 12. However, replaying the game with this version, I've come to realize that Specimen 12 wasn't as challenging as I remembered. It's Specimen 8 that's the true menace. I would definitely play it again, 10/10.
At first I wasn't sure what to expect, but I kept going because I was curious. Then things started to ramp up and I wanted to stop because I'm a weenie, but I kept going because I was curious.
Now I've finished the game, but I want to play it again and see what I missed because it's an excellent game that does what it sets out to do and does it well.
Thankful for steams refund policies. The overwhelmingly positive reviews made me buy it, but I dont see the hype.
Out of all horror games I've played, this one continues to keep scaring me.

Maybe fun in VR, but other wise I fund the 50 or so empty rooms rather boring. But the ingame game machines where fun.

Very stylistically interesting! Despite not being into big horror properties by any means the homages managed to be recognizable while still feeling as if part of their identity lies within Spooky's. You have to be okay with running around aimlessly for a while, both at the beginning of the game and the early parts of Endless Mode since it's kinda slow in the beginning (though it can get very engaging later on when the game tries to waterboard you with specimens). The late game (and even mid-game) specimens are a lot more thematically interesting in my opinion, especially specimens 7 and 10. If you like seeing the room counter go up and find the specimens fun to interact with it can be nice to play while listening to something else or talking with friends.

Good short horror game, the extra content closes the game's story nicely and the bit of lore the game has is interesting. If you like SCP type games this one is worth giving a try.

So much fun literally one of my top 3 games of all time.
I really don't see why this gets positive reviews, i didn't finish it but by the time i went through about 200 rooms I was utterly bored with it. The vast majority of rooms there was nothing to do, you just walk or run through them, the occasional room had a note to read, and once in a while you'd get something chasing you which wasn't in the least bit challenging, the Jump scares weren't scary. The rooms and corridors.
The idea sounded good, and could have been good had the rooms been more challenging, but when you just enter a room or corridor and simply walk to the exit door with nothing else to do for the majority of rooms then that's just plain boring. One of the worst games I've played this year. Refunded.

Got near the end and I was apparently supposed to be able to talk to the brain. I couldn't.
It was supposed to give me a code. It didn't.

Awesome game to play in one sitting. Although the monster do get pretty repetitive and some of them for example the Puppet Master are a lot more annoying with their mechanics.

Among the best of the best when it comes to horror.
Spooky's is a game I play every year because it's the perfect example of using gameplay to build tension without browbeating the player with over-the-top horror tropes.
Minimal but smart. Made by passionate people. This is one of my favorite Halloween traditions and the world is better because this game is in it.
Very fun game that's a lot more than just jumpscares
Not only do I hate this game, I genuinely can't understand why someone would like it. All you do is walk forward and open doors while going through copy-pasted rooms while running away from copy-pasted enemies and reading copy-pasted notes. There is nothing of value or substance here. Not a single unique or interesting idea. It's a 15 minute game that takes 4 hours to complete
I cannot emphasize enough how dull and repetitive this game is. The layout seems to be randomly generated and I got same room THREE TIMES IN A ROW. 8 of the 10 enemies you randomly encounter are functionally identical - you just run forward to get away from them. The other 2? Either you have to run backwards, or you can't run too fast
The part of this game that shows its flaws the hardest is in rooms 900-920. In this section, you are in a flooded hallway with crates providing platforms and there's an invisible monster that chases you when you're in the water. Not only is this a complete ripoff of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, it's worse in every possible manner:
* Your health recharges, so if you get hit, you just have to wait 30 seconds to keep going
* There's no way to pick up or throw objects to distract the monster
* You can't hit the monster with your axe
As a result, there is zero opportunity for creativity or skill expression. The gameplay of this section goes:
* Wait until the monster walks away
* Run to the next platform
You do that ten times per room for 20 ROOMS IN A ROW!
If you enjoy this game, there is something wrong with you
i accidentally killed too many people and went insane
The best horror experience of all time, inspirational, unique mechanics and character design, the false sense of security you are eased into, and the panic of the chase. All of these make this game super unique and charming. Other titles from this author look great too, showing that they are experienced, they seem to excel in psychological horror, always making you feel dread once you know what is truly at stake.
Kicked off my spooky month with this, very spooky and Spooky herself was also spooky.
Spooky game, always afraid of it as a kid but playing it as an adult made me realize it stills scares me at times lol, and the fact it's randomized means there's more replay ability

Spooky's HD is a great little game with a compelling story, inspired horror elements, and doesn't take itself too seriously in the process. The vibe that the devs went for is fully realized with its content, and endless mode after a 100% run is seriously fun after the fact. I cannot stress how much fun I've had playing this game. I can go from laughing at the lesser threatening specimens to actually fearing for the loss of my run the next room due to a harder one spawning, causing me to have to entirely change my approach.
I fully recommend this game if you want a decently replayable horror survival game who's head isn't up its own rear and who's lore is genuinely engaging. Very fun 100% completion run too!
It's a fun game to help time pass by. It's not the scariest game but I do think it's very fun.

its a great game but it would be really cool if there was an extra content setting or mode that added more rooms and the endless mode content in the main game. how?
1. add an extra specimen mode
2. give extra specimen mode an extra 1000 rooms or so (because they may need lore rooms more chase space)
3. is this becomes real ill cry of joy but the odds of this happening are 0%

Absolutely worth the $10!
Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion is phenomenally deceptive and will keep you constantly guessing as to what's next. The game lulls you into a false sense of security with cute graphics and predictable scares, and then completely subverts your expectations and will leave you jumping at even the slightest ambient sounds.
This game is one of a kind.
If you're not sure about it, try out the original version first! It's free on steam and a suitable alternative for those who want to get a feel for the game before dedicating money to it. If you do happen to enjoy the original, though, the HD Renovation is a must-have! The original does just fine on it's own, but this game totally remasters the graphics, introduces many new room designs, and has a ton of quality of life improvements that make the game feel more immersive and engaging.
As a longtime fan of Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion who was hesitant to spend money on a game that I could easily play for free, it is genuinely so worth it. I haven't played a lot of it (yet) but I just had to write this review for anyone who was like me and wasn't sure if they wanted to spend the extra cash on this.
I'd also highly recommend the DLC! They're great additions to the story if you're interested in the lore of the mansion, and they're included with the purchase of the HD Renovation!
Do yourself a huge favor and get this game now!
very spooky and saw jumpscares 10/10 soundtrack
I'll admit, I don't like horror games. At all. I played Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners and quit after the first zombie in the tutorial. And that disliking of horror games does mean that I don't play this often.
However. This game is absolutely perfect at being deceptively terrifying despite its charming artstyle. The music is absolutely great ("Your Consenting Mind" my beloved) and can make things so much scarier. The designs are played very straight forward, with the joke enemies being well implemented and the serious threats looking legitimately frightening without feeling out of place with the artstyle. Overall, my experience so far is a 7/10, but my appreciation of the game itself is a 10/10. Go play this game, then go play Akuma Kira's other games (being Lost in Vivo, UKTENA 64, and Lunacid). And uhhhhhhhhh Skeleton is the best Specimen 1 design fight me
