Played with Oculus Quest 2 + Virtual Desktop + Xbox One S Controller. Worked with no issues.
This is the first game in the Pixel Ripped series. If you wan to play them all, you need to play this one before Pixel Ripped 1995. I played it with my xbox controller rather than the quest controllers
Wow, what a unique experience!
This is by no means a realistic game, its more, its a vivid dream that made me relive so many feelings i had as a kid about video games. What a great example of immersion.
Thanks to the developers and creators of this game.
If i had read about the concept i wouldnt have expected it would make a fun game.
When i saw the graphics of the class room in the trailer they didnt look like much.
However, its not state of the art 3d graphics,
its the attention to detail that made the surroundings work so well for me.
The background chatter and dialogue, the teachers sermons, the hints and gimmicks.
Its while i was focused on other things, when i suddenly realized i relived moments of a past life.
Loved the music, sound and all the nods to the original 8-bit games, which styles were nicked.
Great wordplay and humor.
When i finished i was raving to my wife about it like i was 11 years old...
The only downside was the missing option for custom button layout.
I would never choose to press a thumbstick to jump, when there is buttons to use
and i would love to see a custom button layout update.
To this day i still play 8 and 16 bit games and their recreations,
but this one is just something else, its next level.
A very nice experience. Not what I was expecting, but very nice.
Holy crap, this was way too good: 12 out of 10! (Pico 4)
I have been playing computer games for over 40 years.
If you're an old ass like me, and if you also had a Nintendo GameBoy back then, then Pixel Ripped 1989 is pure heroin.
Just don't touch it!
I had a good time playing through this and thought they had a good mix of different mechanics and scenarios to keep me immersed in the game. I played it using Steam link on my Quest 3 and didn't have any issues with performance or controls. I will mention that when I tried playing it on my Index it did not go so well but after researching it seems a lot of people had issues using any headset other than a quest/rift so keep that in mind. Graphics were a little better than what I expected due to it's age and playing a game inside a game takes a little getting use to. It took me around 10 hours to fully complete with all achievements. It was definitely fun and I got my moneys worth, so if it looks interesting to you and your using a Quest/Rift headset give a try
