Quick, fun far cry game. It took me 5 hours to 100% the game, so it is quite short. If you're wondering why it is called Far Cry 3, it's because it uses a lot of the things from Far Cry 3 like sounds, animations, mechanics, etc. They consider it a stand-alone "expansion pack" based on the world of Far Cry 3.
The game is pretty badass for a quick playthrough. You play as "Rex" who is a cyber-commando so you're basically the terminator and you're OP. Compared to Far Cry 3, in this game you don't take fall damage, enemies are easier to kill, you have more health, and have really powerful weapons/attachments available to you. The voice lines that Rex has is sometimes quite funny, so you can tell the developers had some fun making this game. It is basically like one of those retro arcade games from the 1980s where your character is near invincible and you just obliterate everything in your path. I enjoyed it even if it was only for a short amount of time and it was interesting to experience for the first time.
In my opinion, I think $15 is a little much for what the game offers. Therefore, I'd only recommend this game when it is on sale. The only dislike I have on this game is the stupid message that would pop up anytime I paused the game or went to the menu that said "Please wait while we connect to Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon servers". I blame this on Ubisoft connect because it is typically what to blame in moments like this. I'm sure there's an easy work-around to it, but I always just waited 10 seconds for it to go away every time it popped up because it didn't mess up anything other than the flow of the game.
Super fun arcade experience compared to the other first 3. I enjoyed feeling like a super op character, never taking fall damage and outrunning everything. Would recommend to anyone who liked Far Cry 3 but felt a little weak. Also achievements had an issue popping up. Had to beat the game twice in order to get the last 4.
Save the nerds, throw your d20 to distract the drones, and flex on everyone by only using the bow and arrow for the majority of the game. 10/10 great short and awesome. Duke Nukem but with robot dragons and island scientists.
Blood Dragon remains one of my favorite AA games, a prime example of what Ubisoft can achieve with triple-A assets and a high-concept design that dares to break free from its endless checklist formula. This tight, 6-hour spin-off delivers a burst of 80s neon, synthwave, and cyborg-dragon chaos—no bloated skill trees or excessive map markers, just streamlined, classic gameplay with self-aware humor. However, Ubisoft’s decision to kill the servers without patching the game means that launching it requires a login and triggers futile connection attempts at startup and in the menu. While this proof-of-concept shows that a refreshed formula could benefit Ubisoft, I will change my review to positive only once they fix these issues. Until then, DO NOT BUY!
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is the ultimate nerd 80s/90s DLC for Far Cry 3. A Terminator styled Robocop experience that is gutsy and cybernetic on a level that leaves you wondering if its actually still Far Cry 3 that your playing or a totally new standalone game. No level up skill selection, its all automated to give you upgrades based on a set of levels you reach. Weapons are cool and cyber sharks are deadly while gigantic Dragon lizards are a tough nemesis to encounter or avoid. Fantastic 80's styled synth music sends everything home and ripping out cybernetic hearts from humanoids is strangely enjoyable.
I didn't play this when it first came out on console, but always heard great things about. After playing it for a while I can say it is a great game. It's short compare to Far Cry 3, but it gives you all that action quicker and make you into a total badass.
It is just a dlc of farcry3. Nothing exceptional but it is a short and fun experience . it is good for one time try. unique game no doubt about it.
DO NOT BUY!
Ubisoft has killed off the servers for the game, but did not patch the game.
- Launching game requires ubisoft login.
- Starting the game and it tries to connect to the dead server.
- Opening the menu also triggers connection attempts to the dead server.
Will change my review to positive as soon as ubisoft patches up their mess and removes their launcher.
Always wanted to play this - I refuse to do so in this state!
Constantly having to wait and looking at "TRYING TO CONNECT TO A MULTIPLAYER SERVER THAT DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE" is inexcusable, so this gets a refund after seeing the screen thrice and realising it will reappear everytime i hit ESC.
Also:
- Game is extremely quiet in general, which is weird
- Can't adjust Speech/SFX/Music Volumes independently
- No Subtitle Option in a game that's weirdly quiet and weirdly mixed
- Controls Layout es "EH"
...might pick this up later, if they get their shit together, but it likely won't happen.
un-ironically the best far cry game ever released.
Still one of my favourite games of all time even after all these years. Short, Spectacular and somewhat Stupid. Love it.
Well, I wasn't expecting a lot, but I got more overall enjoyment out of this game than Far Cry 3's main game. This game's very similar in most aspects, but certain mechanics make it a lot more fun to navigate. Increased speed, health, different guns, less time consuming and arbitrary leveling, it makes for a good, albeit, bite sized Far Cry experience. Again, just like Far Cry 3, this isn't anything ground breaking. The story is basically only there as a formality, the gameplay, at a point, is pretty repetitive, and the 100% is slightly annoying due to the grindy nature of it, but if you have something going on in the background, it doesn't feel like it. You ARE doing the same things over and over again, and you likely WILL do them ad nauseam, but if you just tune out the tedium of it, listen to some music, and let the guns do the talking, you fall into a decent rhythm. Collectathon elements will be what they are, and money is painful to get at a point, just like the base game, but the loop is enjoyable enough for me to not knock any points off for it. If you play just the story and be done with it, it's like a couple hours, max, but 100% will run you a bit longer if you aren't very proactive, like me. Overall, solid game, good soundtrack, bland story, but fun. 7/10.
If Far Cry usually drowns you in endless bases, collectibles, and map markers, Blood Dragon is the antidote. This bite-sized spin-off ditches Ubisoft’s infamous "checklist" open-world formula, delivering a tight 6-hour burst of 80s neon, synthwave, and cyborg-dragon chaos. No filler, just lasers and absurdity.
Neon-soaked landscapes, cheesy Van Damme-era action homages, and a soundtrack ripped from a forgotten VHS tape. The gameplay is classic Far Cry — liberate outposts, go wild with over-the-top weapons — but without the grind. Even taming laser-eyed dragons stays fun because, well, it’s over before it gets old.
You’re Sergeant Rex "Cyber Commando" Power (yes, really), a hero named by a 13-year-old’s doodle. The plot? A B-movie mashup of rogue AI, mutant beasts, and dialogue so gloriously dumb it’d make Schwarzenegger cringe (then smirk). It’s self-aware, never takes itself seriously, and that’s the charm.
No bloated skill trees, no 100-hour "commitment." Blood Dragon condenses Ubisoft’s usual excess into a concentrated shot of fun. It mocks open-world tropes while delivering just enough chaos to leave you grinning — not groaning.
A rare Ubisoft gem that’s better for being short. No time for filler, just pure 80s-action homage with cyborgs, synth beats, and dragons that shoot freaking lasers. Proof that sometimes, less neon (okay, fine, slightly less) is more.
The very best intro to a game ive ever seen. Has Far Cry 3 elements but set in the 80's style futuristic mood with a slight hint/taste for Terminator with big spooky scary dragons! Getting chased by Blood Dragons makes me realize a fear worse than Far Cry 3 sharks. I now know how Spongebob and Patrick felt running away from Sandy Cheeks. :3
The only negative part, which is super annoying, is the game is constantly trying to connect to online servers, which have been shut down. Even when you pause the game, it takes 30 seconds to "try" to connect to the servers, and will keep doing it after you complete a mission or side objective. Luckily there are guides on how to fix this issue.
Somehow, this silly little adventure left a better impression on me than Far Cry 3!
It's not objectively better than Far Cry 3, but I genuinely laughed and had fun all the time while playing this. In FC3 it felt like a mish-mash of ideas with no real message or direction. It was also dragged out way too much. FC3 is "better" in all aspects, but it left a sour taste in my mouth.
Blood Dragon on the other hand is a nice, light-hearted adventure that takes you back to the 80s and 90s WITH STYLE! So glad I gave this a chance. Worth it!
Good game. Awesome, even. Few things sound more vomit worthy than a synthwave Far Cry, but luckily this was made before either of those things had become so played out. Sometimes, timing really is everything. This was the last time this series was good or, except for maybe Primal, interesting. Probably the first time, too, if I'm being honest. However, "Please wait while we attempt to connect to the servers that we deactivated" is just the sort of amateur hour BS you'd expect from this dying joke of a company.
Really good Steam Deck game if you lock it to 45 fps and tinker with the settings a bit. The story is absolute non-sense most of the time. It's told through some cool, but intentionally cheap looking 2d slideshows. With that being said, it does hit most of the marks of 80s pop culture cliches in its story, which is kinda the point.
Blood Dragon's map is a wonderful size, with you being able easily get between objectives on foot quickly by the time you get about halfway into the game, which is a big plus. Before that, you will be leveling up by driving to enemy outposts with mostly jeeps. There are definitely some fun vehicle mechanics in this game, with the gliders being one of my favorite ones. The more outposts you capture the more fast travel points you get as well, in typical Ubisoft open-world fashion.
The leveling is done strictly through clearing outposts and killing randomly spawning packs of enemies. It can get a bit samey, but there are only 12 outposts, and a few of them are admittedly well designed and a ton of fun to tackle. A downside to the game is that each of these 12 outposts pad the games length by offering 1-2 very samey optional side objectives per outpost. My big problem with them was that you were forced to do these pretty average side missions in order to unlock upgrade parts for your gun. It just felt like it was padding, although the side missions where you had to kill the guards stealthily before they saw you, or else they would kill a hostage, were pretty great.
Overall, the game offers some really fun and funny moments, and its a relatively short play-through at probably about 8 hours on hard, if you want to reach the max level of 50. If you see this game on sale for $5 or less and you have an afternoon or two to burn, i'd really recommend it. Its almost overly campy, but it can have some pretty great moments.
8/10
PS: I would also highly recommend to install this:
https://www.nexusmods.com/farcry3blooddragon/mods/4
(The above file helps to stop the game from pinging for servers that no longer are active/exist at all, which causes an annoyingly long time out message when pausing.)
8/10
This game is very fun to play! It is a standalone expansion to far cry 3, and it can take you about 5-10 hours to play through it. The game features a nicely condensed open world in a cool setting (retro/cyberpunk), some interesting characters, and awesome weapons. Also the main thing about the game is that you fight these dinosaurs that shoot lasers, they're called blood dragons.
Some things I'd like to highlight about this game: the movement feels very fluid, the weapon animations are incredibly satisfying, and the pixelated story board cutscenes, while being different, are actually unique and they add lore to the game without being too drawn out.
DISCLAIMER: IF YOU HAVE A CPU WITH MORE THAN 4 CORES YOU MIGHT EXPERIENCE SOME FREEZING WHERE THE GAME WILL PAUSE FOR 2-8 SECONDS. TO FIX THIS: GO TO TASK MANAGER > DETAILS > FAR CRY 3 BLOOD DRAGON > RIGHT CLICK > SET AFFINITY > ONLY USE CORES 0, 1, 2, AND 3.
THAT SHOULD FIX THOSE PROBLEMS. OH AND WHEN THIS GAME TRIES TO CONNECT TO UBISOFT SERVERS IT CAN BE PRETTY ANNOYING. UBISOFT SHOULD'VE FIXED THAT.
Ubislop, pure and plain, but at least they tried something fun and different. They didn't go quite all out on open world time wasting either.
However, they shut down the online services a while ago, without patching the game to stop pinging servers that no longer exist. They try to install their spyware on your system too.
Emphasis on "try".
Very fun standalone DLC. Even better with Steam achievements!
1st time playing blood dragon love it had a lot of fun with the game 8/10 but had a lot of problem with the achievements not unlocking like come on ubisoft something should been so simple to added to their games .
still cant get one to unlock
ALERT
Please wait while we are connecting to Far Cry® 3 Blood Dragon servers.
(The game is good ubisoft isnt)
And then they made a DLC, because they could. And they nailed it!
Instead of going against people with guns and wild animals, you will fight against cyborgs with laser guns and cyborg animals. You can tell most of the assets were recycled from the main game, but that does not reduce the enjoyment you get from blasting your enemies. Also, due to your character also being a cyborg, even on hard difficulty, you're immortal once you get high enough level. This power trip is used and abused throughout the game and it's what players wanted.
The game is pretty short even if you're going for 100%; the story seems like old movie cliches; the collectibles are there to mock the use of useless collectibles; the enemies are as tough as they were in the first game (just aim for the head), even if a bit more alert, which makes stealth harder, however, it's not a concern in a game that gives you every oportunity to go LOUD. In short, the whole game mocks the whole Far Cry idea and it does it in the most meta way possible, which is I've seen so many people enjoying it.
Overall, it is definitely one of the best Far Crys ever created. It's an life-changing experience, so go play it, nerd.
Now, for the achievements:
Really simple: do the intro gameplay, advance until the game tells you there's no going back making sure to headshot every enemy you can, then free all outposts, do all the missions and get all collectibles, kill a bunch of blood dragons and hide from at least one, buy every attachment and the finish the game. You can do it in a day if you're up for it.
Painfully fun and not to be taken too seriously...
.
.
Also, I'd recommend the fix / workaround for the BD Server check.

That is, unless you like having to go through an unnecessary second play-through because some of your achievements didn't register.
fun game, but requires ubisoft connect software, saving sometimes doesn't work, and the main menu and pause screen have an extra 20 second load time while it tries to connect to servers that don't exist anymore
Great if you're looking for a nostalgic/retro video game feel. Kept laughing at all the super cheesy 80's action one-liners and really enjoyed the throwback to the 90's 2D cinematic cut-scenes. You get dinosaurs that shoot lasers out of their eyes, Borderlands-like military enemies, mad scientist zombies, and lots of neon colors. Granted the campaign is relatively short, but I think that's fine considering what the game is going for. It is an open world and you can grind to liberate all of the garrisons and do side quests, but the only real motivation to do that is to have access to more weapon attachments that really aren't needed. Only complaints I have is the need to create a stupid Ubisoft account and the random attempts for the game to connect to a server that no longer exists when you occasionally enter the pause menu (preventing any input for about 20-30 seconds).
A game that was clearly built for fun above all else. Few but great weapons. Collectables are scarce and rewarding. Main Character even cracks jokes about how he hates picking them up.
game broke when i beat it. really good and awesome short little experience!!! bad port, good game.
This game is AWESOME! By far the most fun I've had playing a Farcry game. The dialog is so funny. The game play is super smooth. The setting is awesome. I loved this game so much.
The cons tho:
No blood
Driving sucks (Let me shoot and drive)
No wingsuit
Play this game. It is absolutely awesome.
It's a crying shame this game hasn't gotten a sequel. Blood Dragon is an incredible experience.
It was a really fun experience, and it is short compared to the other FCs but it still had the charm of the series. I would 100% recommend this game if you want a small taste of what FC is like. easily an 8/10 in my opinion
Blood Dragon 3 was unexpectedly fantastic. The comedy is cheesy, the graphics are pretty, and it's generally a pretty fun game. I loved how silly it is while still being super fun.
Best Far Cry game ever!
I have played so much of this, though some of it just going around shooting Cyber Solders
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.
Blood Dragon comes with allot of 80s throwbacks. Especially how many movie references it has. That neon graphic style might annoy after a while, but the game is not long enough to really make you stop because of it. If after playing all previous Far Cry games you are still not tired of running around in a big area, collect stuff and shoot stuff... then Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon will not disappoint. There is allot fun to be had in here.
This is what Vice City is to GTA 3. The best way I can put it.
The 80s inspiration and the Far Cry 3 gameplay pairs nicely. It is a slightly dumbed down version of FC3 in the sense of no skill trees or crafting. The game was also over a lot quicker than 3. I still enjoyed it
This game was made in a time when ubisoft made great games that were fun. This game also has a fire soundtrack.
Recently they updated this game to have steam achievements which is great. I don't know why I didn't have that before.
The only bad thing about this game is that You need to have the ubisoft launcher and the game always tries to connect to a ubisoft severs but never does.
I really hope this game is still playable when ubisoft goes bankrupt,
Also play ubisoft bring back xdefiant you killed that game to fast the far cry blood dragon Faction is really fun. Just like this game.
It was a freaking awesome game when it came out. Now i can't even start it. If you manage to get this running with the effed up Ubi-Connect app youre in for a good time, but i have to downvote this unfortunatly for now.
I somehow got all the achievments without even being able to start the game since my first playthru.
Ubi-Soft has really gone downstream.
It's an okay game, but man do I hate fucking Ubisoft. I can't play it right now because the servers won't connect. So it basically says "Oh, you have the game and you bought it via steam? Well too bad, you're blocked from playing because we're a multibillion dollar company and can't keep a basic verification server running."
Now with Steam achievements it is a very fun game but also kinda short took 7.4 hours on hard to 100% with a guide a few years ago.
Likely around 5.-6 hours long on a normal playtrough.
Recommend on a sale.
For whatever reason, every time you open the pause menu, it has to spend 30+ seconds trying to connect to the shut down ubisoft server for this game. The actual game is great, but this really sucks if you're trying to save or mess w/ your controls
Not Recommended.
Find a way to disable the scanlines somehow, otherwise they gonna pop in reality and turn your daily routine into a 80's trash movie.
Story - 1
Gameplay - 4
Scenario - 2
Sync - 3
Sense - 4
Final - 2.8/5
For some reason, this single player game with no online functionality will attempt to connect to online servers every 10-15 minutes when you pause the game. The fix for this issue should be easy, just update the game to make it NOT look for those servers anymore... A million bucks says we never get that update.
Far Cry 3 - Blood Dragon is great: same-old great Far Cry 3 gameplay, but with less crashes and the cheesiest dialogue and plot that could possibly be conceived. If it didn't try to connect to Far Cry 3 - Blood Dragon servers that don't exist anymore, it would probably be able to move up to amazing, but this game is still worth a play if you liked Far Cry 3.
Good DLC but not the most amazing. The 80's neon nostalgia was cool at first but tired quickly. The game was so-so for me until the last 1/4 of the game and then it became pretty rad. It goes over the top in a very fun way. The last parts of the game made it worth it.
Hilarious and fun retro FC now finally with Achievements! Ultrawide gameplay, unlocked fps, FoV. Bodacious!
Far Cry® 3 Blood Dragon
Vote 82 ✅
What a surprise! I finally managed to recover this little gem thanks to the addition of achievements!
a small super mega fun Spin-off that unfortunately nowadays are no longer seen.
a sort of Far Cry 3 reinvented in a way that makes it extremely fun to play and much more interesting.

step 1: inter the game
step 2: take the achievments
step 3: close the game and we continue praying the downfall of ubisoft
Ubisoft putting the minimum effort and adding steam achievements twenty years later. I won’t miss them when they go out of business.
Uplay trash is forced on to you and not just that this old game is just boring yer it has the 80s feel but after a wile its just farcry with lasers
