game is good but but ubisoft would rather throw c0ke bricks at homeless people and kidnap kids and send them to epstiens island than make a stable server always inserting there shitty ubisoft connect into games so 75% of the time my games dont even save
funny storyline, lite version of the far cry 3, great short game.
Finished it yesterday. I'm kinda mad the game never got a proper sequel. It's such a short but sweet experience, I'm surprised Ubisoft didn't milk Blood Dragon as much as they've milked all their other franchises to death (talking about you assassins creed). You can get a lot of games that are longer for 15 dollars though so I'd wait while it's on sale.
An absolute blast, now THIS is what a Ubisoft open world game should be.
It doesn't overstay its welcome as the running jokes might get old pretty fast, that's not an issue when you can 100% the game in about 10 hours. The comedy was fun, the gameplay smooth, and the story decent enough not to be a drag. Had fun throughout the entire game.
No joke, this is one of the best games I've ever played. It's a fun 80s movie in video game form and I love it. I rate this Blood Dragon / 3
Bought on a whim just for nostalgia, but man it's basically unplayable. I don't really care that Ubisoft pulled the servers, but the game tries to connect for a solid 30-60 seconds when it starts AND almost every time you pause. The game grinds to a choppy mess at high settings, despite using a high end computer generations faster than the hardware present around the game's release. It boots you out of fullscreen at seemingly random, which has to be re-enabled in settings assuming it doesn't freeze when you open the menu. Freezing was a recurring issue, with the worst cases ending in a CTD. Audio mixing is really terrible, voices are muffled, most audio is super quiet. Sad to see a somewhat-old classic discarded like this, but I should've expected as much from Ubisoft.
Game doesn't even launch for me anymore, instant crash.
No idea how to fix as it originally worked and suddenly after an update stopped.
Don't sell games that clearly are broken.
Don't buy this, Ubisoft failed to patch it before they killed it. So now you keep connecting to a dead server and blocking you from playing.
It's probably one of the best far cry related pieces of media out there. But it's just not worth dealing with the headache that is a game Ubisoft can't squeeze for it's last bits of bonemarrow.
A great game ruined by Ubisofts horrific loader, insistance on linking to their always offline servers and and unbeleivable approach to customer service which includes such hits as , pay us and at any time we reserve the right, to compleltey destroy your game by injecting our crappy ineffective Ubisoft Connect which never connects or we may remove whole sections of thge thing you paid for at our own descetion.
Remind me again why I dont just pirate everything Ubisoft has ever released?
Easily the best DLC for any Far Cry game, made unplayable UbiSofts dead servers, shame.
Way better than the base game (by mostly being shorter, more focused and without tonal dissonance)
I bought the entire Far Cry collection during a Steam Sale and was excited to jump back into some of the older games that I loved playing through on the Xbox 360. Especially now that I can use M&K for controls.
Beware of Blood Dragon however. The game performs as expected, except for every time you boot the game and half of the time you pause it will try to connect to long disabled servers. This requires you to wait around for 30-90 seconds until the request times out. The pause screen makes this a huge issue, as that is the only way to access your skills and other essential menus.
Ubisoft need to patch this function out of a game they are actively selling (and adding Steam Achievements for in 2025! I'd rather the gameplay work as designed.) A great game bogged down by a lazy AAA developer.
There are fan made fixes you can explore, like this: https://steamcommunity.com/id/LordGay/myworkshopfiles/?section=guides&appid=233270. But you shouldn't have to, because you're a paying customer for a product from a multi-billion dollar company.
loved this game years ago, still love it now. short, silly, but fun & awesome. the fact this game wasnt supposed to be real [it was originally teased on april fools day 2013 as a joke, people wanted it, we got it]
iconic soundtrack, killer retrowave vibe, awesome gameplay, can not go wrong with FC3:BD.
still a 10/10. Sloan didn't know what hit him lmao.
Cool testosterone action with fast pace. not long, not short. like I am playing the 80th-90th action movie. I tend to like it even more than Far Cry 3
A cool shooter considering it's based on FC3 and is 12 years old.
The story as well as the gameplay is pretty relaxed, unlike the original FC3, as well as some features and flaws fixed here.
It is quite suitable for distraction, to remember some cult cultural moments (thanks to multiple references, Easter eggs and not bad jokes or in some places even mockery, which in modern realities looks very funny)
Oh yeah, given that it's 2025 and Ubisoft's love of weird and awkward business decisions — you'll have slightly increased pauses thanks to the game's attempts to connect to the game's deliberately disconnected services via UPlay.
an amazing game that simply does not run on modern hardware. So sad, back in the day my GTX 970 ran this game like a champ. now my RTX 4080 super duper pile of crap cant even run this game at 70, and sure you can do the tweaks, like setting CPU affinity to 4 cores, changing the multicore rendering to be on, but then it just crashes after 5 minutes, but im not stopping there, it gets better. because ubisoft is ubisoft, every single time you launch the game you have to sit there and watch it try and fail to connect to ubisofts cursed servers for at least 5 minutes before you can even get to the menu. So once you're past that shit, you think what would be next is to play the game. Wrong. If you can make it into the game without crashing, and can tolerate <60FPS on a $2000 computer from a game that came out 12 years ago, then guess what? Better hope you never fucking hit escape again for the rest of your life because if you want to edit your video audio or controls settings, or just pause the fucking game to take a rip, the game has a total fucking meltdown as it attempts and fails over and over to connect yet again to the dark plane of oblivion known as ubisoft server HQ, which you will have the displeasure of being forced to stop everything you're doing and witness hopelessly, for another grueling 5 minutes of pure agony, every single time you hit escape for any reason AT ALL. all while listening to the mildly stimulating synth music you thought you once loved on REPEAT. This experience really numbed me, because I was really looking forward to getting back into my favorite far cry game, and one of my favorite single players games ever. My first introduction to anything cyberpunk related, and my brand new $2000 computer cant even run this shit. Blame it on Nvidia driver support, blame it on ubisoft, blame it on god for all i can. blame it on me. Dont care, this was a sad day for me. Please fix.
P.S remember when PC had the best backwards compatibility for games.
Farcry 3 is my all time favourite AAA genre game from Ubisoft. Bought this DLC recently. Wow.. Thoroughly enjoyed playing this one.:-) A typical retro style with neon theme of the post apocalyptic world adds so much fun.Never ever thought farcry with this concept. Neon music during the gameplay feels awesome. Game mechanics, enemies are the same from the farcry 3, with environment looks sick with neon theme though. Big surprise is the Neon Dragon and it's insane health damage. Since Ubisoft has stopped live service, the only pain point in the game is it often tries to connect to its server for about 30 - 40 sec just to pop up stating unreachable at the moment. I recommend to try this one for fun.
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon isn't a bad game per se, but the integration with Ubisoft services needs an update; or, perhaps even better, wiped out completely. It's the only Far Cry game I ever bought, because of the futuristic style clearly inspired by the 80s. I did find it a bit odd that your character can't move around freely without the game telling you to stay true to the pre-designed path.
This review would've been a more detailed one and probably even positive if the online features were removed. There's no point in checking for online servers if you're playing a single-player game!
I really wanted to like this game. The concept is great! But the controls feel stiff, the world feels bare, and it's hard to see anything in the sea of neon colors. This short game quickly overstays the welcome that the premise grants it.
only need 4 hour to complete main story, short but fun game, waht annoying is the always try to connect network thing alwasy pop up and you need to wait like 30sec
This is my favorite Far Cry game. Playing as a cyber-commando fighting laser-shooting dragons. The 80's neon, synthwave, and over-the-top action is hilarious, ridiculous, and insanely fun. Short but unforgettable, it’s Far Cry at its wildest.
I am not sure I ever finished this back in 2013 but recently revisited it after Ubisoft released achievements for it. This is an outstanding play. It’s the anti-Far Cry. The only element of Far Cry that really is maintained here is the need to liberate enemy bases. That’s it. You are a cyborg dude named Rex, plopped on a dystopian post-nuclear war island, styled like the 1980s. Complete with Duke Nukem one-liners, voiced by Michael Biehn, and the ability to basically do anything you want. It’s a true run-and-gun where you run so fast that fast travel and vehicles are not even really needed. They sprinkle in random Blood Dragons across the map, which are basically T-Rex sized Godzillas that shoot lasers out their mouth. Adds to an interesting dynamic to the open world. You get to ride a blood dragon at one point too.
But honestly, this game plays very well as 90s shooter mechanics in a modern stylistic sandbox. Worth playing, even in 2025. After Blood Draon’s reception, I can see why they tried to make the DLC for future games a bit more diversified. The Zombie, Mars and Vietnam DLC for FC5 feels tacked on compared to this.
Far Cry Ranked
1. Far Cry 5
2. Far Cry 3
3. Blood Dragon
4. Far Cry Primal
5. Far Cry
6. Far Cry 2
7. Far Cry 4
If you enjoyed Farcry 3 but thought it was just a little too full of filler then this is for you. The map is the same, some QOL changes have been made, you can breath underwater, you move faster, no fall damage etc and you can watch credits roll in under 3 hours playing casually and 100% the game in less than 8 hours casually. This is a fantastic 80s/90s futuristic stylised FPS, they could just as easily dropped the title and called this 'Blood Dragon' and it would have still been a fantastic game.
You're not late to the party with this DLC! It's still just as fun after all these years.
Talk about getting it done right. The retro futurism, VHS, synthwave, neon lights, action superhero of the 80's and 90's...all combined into one short but sweet experience.
I feel like this is what Far Cry 3 should have been all along.
Blood Dragon is a really fun and humorous FPS spin off of Far Cry 3. It's totally unrelated to the story. You're a hero cyborg and the game is pretty easy. Certainly worth the minimal amount they're asking for it these days.
Graphics are a bit dated by 2025 standards of course, but they hold up alright.
There are odd pauses that are kind of annoying on some modern computers. To fix, set CPU affinity to 2 cores. Preferably even numbers, 0, 2, 4 etc.
What the ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎ have I just played.
This DLC is absolutely ridiculous but in all the best ways.
The animation for the cutscenes, the music, laser dragons, the non-stop puns, innuendos, and one liners.
One liners that I could easily see Deadpool saying or Arnie.
I was not prepared for this at all.
Definitely one of the best DLCs I've played. I had so much fun playing this game. Highly recommend.
Quick, fun far cry game. It took me 5 hours to 100% the game, so it is quite short. If you're wondering why it is called Far Cry 3, it's because it uses a lot of the things from Far Cry 3 like sounds, animations, mechanics, etc. They consider it a stand-alone "expansion pack" based on the world of Far Cry 3.
The game is pretty badass for a quick playthrough. You play as "Rex" who is a cyber-commando so you're basically the terminator and you're OP. Compared to Far Cry 3, in this game you don't take fall damage, enemies are easier to kill, you have more health, and have really powerful weapons/attachments available to you. The voice lines that Rex has is sometimes quite funny, so you can tell the developers had some fun making this game. It is basically like one of those retro arcade games from the 1980s where your character is near invincible and you just obliterate everything in your path. I enjoyed it even if it was only for a short amount of time and it was interesting to experience for the first time.
In my opinion, I think $15 is a little much for what the game offers. Therefore, I'd only recommend this game when it is on sale. The only dislike I have on this game is the stupid message that would pop up anytime I paused the game or went to the menu that said "Please wait while we connect to Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon servers". I blame this on Ubisoft connect because it is typically what to blame in moments like this. I'm sure there's an easy work-around to it, but I always just waited 10 seconds for it to go away every time it popped up because it didn't mess up anything other than the flow of the game.
Super fun arcade experience compared to the other first 3. I enjoyed feeling like a super op character, never taking fall damage and outrunning everything. Would recommend to anyone who liked Far Cry 3 but felt a little weak. Also achievements had an issue popping up. Had to beat the game twice in order to get the last 4.
Save the nerds, throw your d20 to distract the drones, and flex on everyone by only using the bow and arrow for the majority of the game. 10/10 great short and awesome. Duke Nukem but with robot dragons and island scientists.
Blood Dragon remains one of my favorite AA games, a prime example of what Ubisoft can achieve with triple-A assets and a high-concept design that dares to break free from its endless checklist formula. This tight, 6-hour spin-off delivers a burst of 80s neon, synthwave, and cyborg-dragon chaos—no bloated skill trees or excessive map markers, just streamlined, classic gameplay with self-aware humor. However, Ubisoft’s decision to kill the servers without patching the game means that launching it requires a login and triggers futile connection attempts at startup and in the menu. While this proof-of-concept shows that a refreshed formula could benefit Ubisoft, I will change my review to positive only once they fix these issues. Until then, DO NOT BUY!
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is the ultimate nerd 80s/90s DLC for Far Cry 3. A Terminator styled Robocop experience that is gutsy and cybernetic on a level that leaves you wondering if its actually still Far Cry 3 that your playing or a totally new standalone game. No level up skill selection, its all automated to give you upgrades based on a set of levels you reach. Weapons are cool and cyber sharks are deadly while gigantic Dragon lizards are a tough nemesis to encounter or avoid. Fantastic 80's styled synth music sends everything home and ripping out cybernetic hearts from humanoids is strangely enjoyable.
I didn't play this when it first came out on console, but always heard great things about. After playing it for a while I can say it is a great game. It's short compare to Far Cry 3, but it gives you all that action quicker and make you into a total badass.
It is just a dlc of farcry3. Nothing exceptional but it is a short and fun experience . it is good for one time try. unique game no doubt about it.
DO NOT BUY!
Ubisoft has killed off the servers for the game, but did not patch the game.
- Launching game requires ubisoft login.
- Starting the game and it tries to connect to the dead server.
- Opening the menu also triggers connection attempts to the dead server.
Will change my review to positive as soon as ubisoft patches up their mess and removes their launcher.
Always wanted to play this - I refuse to do so in this state!
Constantly having to wait and looking at "TRYING TO CONNECT TO A MULTIPLAYER SERVER THAT DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE" is inexcusable, so this gets a refund after seeing the screen thrice and realising it will reappear everytime i hit ESC.
Also:
- Game is extremely quiet in general, which is weird
- Can't adjust Speech/SFX/Music Volumes independently
- No Subtitle Option in a game that's weirdly quiet and weirdly mixed
- Controls Layout es "EH"
...might pick this up later, if they get their shit together, but it likely won't happen.
un-ironically the best far cry game ever released.
Still one of my favourite games of all time even after all these years. Short, Spectacular and somewhat Stupid. Love it.
Well, I wasn't expecting a lot, but I got more overall enjoyment out of this game than Far Cry 3's main game. This game's very similar in most aspects, but certain mechanics make it a lot more fun to navigate. Increased speed, health, different guns, less time consuming and arbitrary leveling, it makes for a good, albeit, bite sized Far Cry experience. Again, just like Far Cry 3, this isn't anything ground breaking. The story is basically only there as a formality, the gameplay, at a point, is pretty repetitive, and the 100% is slightly annoying due to the grindy nature of it, but if you have something going on in the background, it doesn't feel like it. You ARE doing the same things over and over again, and you likely WILL do them ad nauseam, but if you just tune out the tedium of it, listen to some music, and let the guns do the talking, you fall into a decent rhythm. Collectathon elements will be what they are, and money is painful to get at a point, just like the base game, but the loop is enjoyable enough for me to not knock any points off for it. If you play just the story and be done with it, it's like a couple hours, max, but 100% will run you a bit longer if you aren't very proactive, like me. Overall, solid game, good soundtrack, bland story, but fun. 7/10.
If Far Cry usually drowns you in endless bases, collectibles, and map markers, Blood Dragon is the antidote. This bite-sized spin-off ditches Ubisoft’s infamous "checklist" open-world formula, delivering a tight 6-hour burst of 80s neon, synthwave, and cyborg-dragon chaos. No filler, just lasers and absurdity.
Neon-soaked landscapes, cheesy Van Damme-era action homages, and a soundtrack ripped from a forgotten VHS tape. The gameplay is classic Far Cry — liberate outposts, go wild with over-the-top weapons — but without the grind. Even taming laser-eyed dragons stays fun because, well, it’s over before it gets old.
You’re Sergeant Rex "Cyber Commando" Power (yes, really), a hero named by a 13-year-old’s doodle. The plot? A B-movie mashup of rogue AI, mutant beasts, and dialogue so gloriously dumb it’d make Schwarzenegger cringe (then smirk). It’s self-aware, never takes itself seriously, and that’s the charm.
No bloated skill trees, no 100-hour "commitment." Blood Dragon condenses Ubisoft’s usual excess into a concentrated shot of fun. It mocks open-world tropes while delivering just enough chaos to leave you grinning — not groaning.
A rare Ubisoft gem that’s better for being short. No time for filler, just pure 80s-action homage with cyborgs, synth beats, and dragons that shoot freaking lasers. Proof that sometimes, less neon (okay, fine, slightly less) is more.
The very best intro to a game ive ever seen. Has Far Cry 3 elements but set in the 80's style futuristic mood with a slight hint/taste for Terminator with big spooky scary dragons! Getting chased by Blood Dragons makes me realize a fear worse than Far Cry 3 sharks. I now know how Spongebob and Patrick felt running away from Sandy Cheeks. :3
The only negative part, which is super annoying, is the game is constantly trying to connect to online servers, which have been shut down. Even when you pause the game, it takes 30 seconds to "try" to connect to the servers, and will keep doing it after you complete a mission or side objective. Luckily there are guides on how to fix this issue.
Somehow, this silly little adventure left a better impression on me than Far Cry 3!
It's not objectively better than Far Cry 3, but I genuinely laughed and had fun all the time while playing this. In FC3 it felt like a mish-mash of ideas with no real message or direction. It was also dragged out way too much. FC3 is "better" in all aspects, but it left a sour taste in my mouth.
Blood Dragon on the other hand is a nice, light-hearted adventure that takes you back to the 80s and 90s WITH STYLE! So glad I gave this a chance. Worth it!
Good game. Awesome, even. Few things sound more vomit worthy than a synthwave Far Cry, but luckily this was made before either of those things had become so played out. Sometimes, timing really is everything. This was the last time this series was good or, except for maybe Primal, interesting. Probably the first time, too, if I'm being honest. However, "Please wait while we attempt to connect to the servers that we deactivated" is just the sort of amateur hour BS you'd expect from this dying joke of a company.
Really good Steam Deck game if you lock it to 45 fps and tinker with the settings a bit. The story is absolute non-sense most of the time. It's told through some cool, but intentionally cheap looking 2d slideshows. With that being said, it does hit most of the marks of 80s pop culture cliches in its story, which is kinda the point.
Blood Dragon's map is a wonderful size, with you being able easily get between objectives on foot quickly by the time you get about halfway into the game, which is a big plus. Before that, you will be leveling up by driving to enemy outposts with mostly jeeps. There are definitely some fun vehicle mechanics in this game, with the gliders being one of my favorite ones. The more outposts you capture the more fast travel points you get as well, in typical Ubisoft open-world fashion.
The leveling is done strictly through clearing outposts and killing randomly spawning packs of enemies. It can get a bit samey, but there are only 12 outposts, and a few of them are admittedly well designed and a ton of fun to tackle. A downside to the game is that each of these 12 outposts pad the games length by offering 1-2 very samey optional side objectives per outpost. My big problem with them was that you were forced to do these pretty average side missions in order to unlock upgrade parts for your gun. It just felt like it was padding, although the side missions where you had to kill the guards stealthily before they saw you, or else they would kill a hostage, were pretty great.
Overall, the game offers some really fun and funny moments, and its a relatively short play-through at probably about 8 hours on hard, if you want to reach the max level of 50. If you see this game on sale for $5 or less and you have an afternoon or two to burn, i'd really recommend it. Its almost overly campy, but it can have some pretty great moments.
8/10
PS: I would also highly recommend to install this:
https://www.nexusmods.com/farcry3blooddragon/mods/4
(The above file helps to stop the game from pinging for servers that no longer are active/exist at all, which causes an annoyingly long time out message when pausing.)
8/10
This game is very fun to play! It is a standalone expansion to far cry 3, and it can take you about 5-10 hours to play through it. The game features a nicely condensed open world in a cool setting (retro/cyberpunk), some interesting characters, and awesome weapons. Also the main thing about the game is that you fight these dinosaurs that shoot lasers, they're called blood dragons.
Some things I'd like to highlight about this game: the movement feels very fluid, the weapon animations are incredibly satisfying, and the pixelated story board cutscenes, while being different, are actually unique and they add lore to the game without being too drawn out.
DISCLAIMER: IF YOU HAVE A CPU WITH MORE THAN 4 CORES YOU MIGHT EXPERIENCE SOME FREEZING WHERE THE GAME WILL PAUSE FOR 2-8 SECONDS. TO FIX THIS: GO TO TASK MANAGER > DETAILS > FAR CRY 3 BLOOD DRAGON > RIGHT CLICK > SET AFFINITY > ONLY USE CORES 0, 1, 2, AND 3.
THAT SHOULD FIX THOSE PROBLEMS. OH AND WHEN THIS GAME TRIES TO CONNECT TO UBISOFT SERVERS IT CAN BE PRETTY ANNOYING. UBISOFT SHOULD'VE FIXED THAT.
Ubislop, pure and plain, but at least they tried something fun and different. They didn't go quite all out on open world time wasting either.
However, they shut down the online services a while ago, without patching the game to stop pinging servers that no longer exist. They try to install their spyware on your system too.
Emphasis on "try".
Very fun standalone DLC. Even better with Steam achievements!
1st time playing blood dragon love it had a lot of fun with the game 8/10 but had a lot of problem with the achievements not unlocking like come on ubisoft something should been so simple to added to their games .
still cant get one to unlock
ALERT
Please wait while we are connecting to Far Cry® 3 Blood Dragon servers.
(The game is good ubisoft isnt)
And then they made a DLC, because they could. And they nailed it!
Instead of going against people with guns and wild animals, you will fight against cyborgs with laser guns and cyborg animals. You can tell most of the assets were recycled from the main game, but that does not reduce the enjoyment you get from blasting your enemies. Also, due to your character also being a cyborg, even on hard difficulty, you're immortal once you get high enough level. This power trip is used and abused throughout the game and it's what players wanted.
The game is pretty short even if you're going for 100%; the story seems like old movie cliches; the collectibles are there to mock the use of useless collectibles; the enemies are as tough as they were in the first game (just aim for the head), even if a bit more alert, which makes stealth harder, however, it's not a concern in a game that gives you every oportunity to go LOUD. In short, the whole game mocks the whole Far Cry idea and it does it in the most meta way possible, which is I've seen so many people enjoying it.
Overall, it is definitely one of the best Far Crys ever created. It's an life-changing experience, so go play it, nerd.
Now, for the achievements:
Really simple: do the intro gameplay, advance until the game tells you there's no going back making sure to headshot every enemy you can, then free all outposts, do all the missions and get all collectibles, kill a bunch of blood dragons and hide from at least one, buy every attachment and the finish the game. You can do it in a day if you're up for it.
