Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a fun, retro-inspired spin-off, but it doesn't quite live up to the depth or impact of Far Cry 3. The story is a lighthearted parody of 80s action films, featuring Rex Powercolt, a cybernetic super-soldier battling mutants and evil forces. While it’s amusing and filled with over-the-top humor, it lacks the emotional weight and character development of Far Cry 3, making it feel more like a diversion than a compelling narrative.
The gameplay mechanics are familiar, with open-world exploration and first-person combat, but they’re simplified. There's less emphasis on crafting and exploration, and the upgrades and combat don’t offer the same depth as in Far Cry 3. The weapons, though, are a fun mix of futuristic laser guns and flamethrowers, offering a fresh twist on the familiar formula, but the missions can get repetitive.
Visually, the game is a neon-drenched 80s dream, with bold colors and quirky details, providing a stark contrast to the more realistic world of Far Cry 3. It’s fun to look at but doesn’t offer the same immersion. The comic book-style cutscenes are a unique touch, though they might feel distracting or too simplistic for some players.

[H3]I recommend everyone to play it at least once. The game is full of references and satire to films and TV series.
Pretty fun game to kill about 10 hours to
extremely funnt shame you needed to go through uplay connect, had me wait lots for it just to say that the servers were offline
You need to block the .exe with a firewall or be tormented by unworking ubisoft service for 2min each time you enter the main menu.
The game is good though. Just requires extra work.
Fun and fairly simple far cry game similar to far cry 3. Takes a bout 8 hrs to complete good for a weekend.

Have to request a refund because the game wont launch. Tried the EXE files, still wont launch. Par for the course for a UBIsoft Game. I should have known better but here we are.
1) It installs the crap called "Ubisoft Connect", which I don't need by myself, but of course this $hitty company demands it from you
2) Ubisoft Connect couldn't create an account for me as my password (which I had to reset as I forgot it) was longer than SIXTEEN LETTERS F YOU UBISOFT WHO CARES HOW MUCH LETTERS ARE IN THEIR PASSWORD IN 2024????????????
3) It was written that "internet will be demanded only to launch the game for the first time to only SignUp" in EULA. Let's begin with that it takes very long time to launch that foking UC and after it the game itself autoruns. It loaded its menu (which was long and not good for 2024) with internet, but after I turned off Wi-Fi on PC (ASUS TUF F15) and started the game 2nd time, I had to choose "run offline" in UC, and it just kept spinning. I started stopwatch, it took 3 minutes and still game didn't start, so I just regret that bought this piece of dogsh. Again, THE GAME JUST DOESN'T LOAD ON SECOND TIME (even that I had to CLOSE UC IN TRAY - why it doesn't close by itself?!?!)
4) UC still stays in tray even when I quit the game
5) Keep in mind that it's 2024. Game is from 2013, but Deus Ex 2000 (ok, I had to install patches as publisher is dick, but anyways) runs after mostly 1 second even with asbence of patches (GOTY edition), so don't buy it
6) EULA says "we don't care which components that DRM will install into your machine" (?!?!). If you work not on game but to make it as safe as possible in negative terms, go to doctor
7) Steam says I spent 13 minutes, but it only accounts loading of that MaStErPiEcE and options pane, as I didn't even load first level (campaign or something). IDGAS what year it was made in. Now it's 2024 and it should not exist in this form
The only flaw with this game is that you have to put in a file which blocks the game from trying to connect to non existent servers. The music is SUPERB, sounding like peak 80's scifi. The gameplay makes you feel like an 80s action hero. Nonstop 80s power fantasy immesion.
Wish there was a Blood Dragon 2.
Pros:
- Great relentless action
- Good characters and VOs
- Weapons despite limited, feel awesome.
- 80's aesthetic if you liked it as well as I do.
Cons
- Feels short but the price warrants it.
- The final weapon system you get lacks moves for my taste.
Ultimately, a great action standalone DLC.
A FANTASTIC GAME!
I've played beaten all of the Farcry games and this is was a blast.
Feels like a actual video game and pulls no punches.
It's a must play for sure!
Fun premise, but it's mired but an ENDLESS opening questline that won't let you wander, or you auto-fail the mission and it reloads. Also the tutorial joke at the beginning was probably funny on paper, but it's actually pretty annoying by the time it ends. Basically the game tries too hard to keep you from playing it
This game is a lot like if RoboCop teamed up with the creators of Doom Eternal. It is very retro, but also it feels like it is set in the future because of the tech and weapons. I love this game with my whole heart.

Goofy and super fun game, absolute blast. If you liked Far Cry 3, which is also excellent, it's more of the same. Probably don't play them too close together, but this is an excellent game.
Deletes my save every time I start the game again.

yes, if this is on sale, it's more of a dlc (~5h to complete). so 80's; so cool; so funny; need a full sized game on this!

ITS THE BEST GODDAMN GAME EVER MADE!!!!
I played the Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon demo way back in the day on the Xbox 360, and have played through the PC version twice now. All in all its a really good game. I love the visuals, music, atmosphere, humour and gameplay. The blood dragons are immensely fun to unleash on enemies, and the weapons truly a joy to use especially once you've upgraded them several times (explosive sniper rifles, quad barrel shotguns, laser rifles).
The graphics & music of Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon are both fantastic. The 80s synthetic beats combined with the neon lights everywhere make this game truly unique and very memorable. Its quite beautiful in a way; cyber-sharks swimming about a dark and moody ocean that is being lit up with bright, neon blue weapons fire. The story & characters are all enjoyable cheesy, with the jokes being enough to bring a smile to your face.
The only issue with this game is that it gets far too easy once you've gotten a few upgrades for yourself & your weapons. Its not like Far Cry 3 where the health upgrades (that make the game easier) are optional; your health will just increase the more you level up / the game automatically buffs your character.

Ubi won't bloody remove this even after the servers are shutdown. Wastes sooo much time when you just wanna check your skills, save, or quit the game! Lost motivation to play this game coz of this dumb issue.
tried to pick this game up again after many, many years. game is still fun, but ubisoft connect is such a joke, it makes me not want to play it. i wish they would do away with ubisoft connect, every comment i have ever seen about it has been negative, yet they still insist on trying to shove it down our throats. wish they didnt make such great games so i could never touch or deal with ubisoft again
Game itself is 10 out of 10 no questions about it. But simply for the fact that the single player game requires an internet connection and Ubisoft insists that we need another launcher. This makes it completely unplayable, game is completely broken.

Enjoying the game but I can't recommend due to it crashing on my Windows 11. If you find it on sale for under $5 and wanna deal with it then by all means, go ahead. I love the vibe and gameplay so I'm gonna horse through it. However if you have a console and find it on sale in the store under "Classic Edition" that might work better, I don't have a console so I didn't look into it.

The story doesn't really matter, it's just like an 80's action movie. It's just overall fun

Arguably the BEST in the Far Cry series. If you want a TRUE neon 80's action movie experience with the cheesy yet re-quotable dialogue, solid game-play without the need for lengthy skill trees, an amazing synthy soundtrack by POWERGLOVE, and an overall just outstanding decently short length game.

As long was cheap as is quite a short game, is a fun romp using the standard Far Cry enemy AI which is quite predictable. Nice silly styling with the ott 80's references.

Simple but incredibly fun. I feel like most of the Far Cry games take themselves a bit too seriously. That's definitely not the case here...
Surprisingly good graphics and a killer 80s sci-fi soundtrack. The vulgar, straightforward dialogue and mission names had me laughing—it’s refreshingly blunt. I didn’t fully follow the backstory, but the neon-drenched chaos was a blast!
The storyline is quick to finish.

Ubisoft took down the online servers for this game, which would be fine if the game didn't still try to constantly connect to them... for a SINGLE PLAYER GAME.
When you start the game, or sometimes when you pause, it will try for like 15-20 seconds to try to connect to the Ubisoft servers. There's no way to skip or cancel it.
Honestly, I thought people were exaggerating when they said how terrible Ubisoft are as a company, but it's all true. For example, try to play Assassin's Creed Black Flag, and it will ask you to re-enter your password every time you launch the game. Even though your'e already logged in to the terrible Ubisoft connect application.
I will never, ever buy another Ubisoft game for as long as I live. They are the one of the worst companies I've ever had the misfortune to deal with.
This may be a good game, but it's just not worth it.
incredibly dull, no variety, visuals are unique probably because someone should've realised they can get annoying, annoying menu keeps trying to connect to dead servers, just play far cry 3
Man, this FC3 Blood Dragon is an absolute blast from the past, kind of underrated game of FC series, gameplay is incredibly engaging. For the gameplay it's 10/10, retro cyberpunk & anime vibe in FC.
A must try game of FC series you shouldn't skip at all. Only downside of this is, gameplay & story is too short. If Ubisoft had seriously taken it back then in 2013, they could push this game further, have good potential.

Ubisoft can’t help themselves, even with their classics.
Great old shooter, but not everything has aged well. The combat is great fun; however, once the player gets the Gatling gun, it becomes a walk in the park. The map is large for a DLC but feels empty. The story is great, really over the top, and the twist at the ending is totally unexpected. Sadly, Ubisoft has embedded their launcher and requires players to register an account to play, but they didn’t fix the connection error with their legacy services that constantly freezes the menus. This is not acceptable.
Shove your piece of shit launcher deep in your arse and fuck off.
