The city protection angle of Who’s That Flying?! makes for an interesting horizontal shooter but not a particularly deep one, because while taking out every little Ravager that comes your way is key to keeping the world safe, your own attacks are often a bit too good at repelling those simple foes. It’s not that tough to keep them at bay much of the time, but at least the larger foes and bosses do make you work a bit more and the challenges can sometimes muster up moments that make your weapons more interesting than the simple enjoyment of being temporarily stronger.
So while I did beat this game and had an ok time, I wouldn't recommend. It has a lot of punishing mechanics that make 100% clearing levels with the highest score really tedious. Because making a single mistake can make you lose control of your character, multiple mistakes will be soon to follow as it makes it awfully punishing. Overall, the story was goofy and it reminded me of playing flash games on Newgrounds but I'd try other bullet hell shooters before this one.
one of my favorite games from my first android phone.
the price plays in its favor. it is... fine. not terribly exciting but not terribly great either. there's some fun to be had, but it's not the best shmup you'll play in your life. definitely very casual friendly though.
