decent game with lots of personality and potential killed by devs getting laid off award
the last update was April second 2024. dead game...
Shakey 8/10.
The game itself, for what's left of mane6's original vision, is amazing. Perfect, even.
However the publisher, Maximum Entertainment, outright murdered the game by firing almost the entire Dev team and taking most of the profits that the Devs were using to make the single player story mode.
The last character added(who is going to be the absolute last character added as there's only like 3 developers working on this game after the layoffs) uses mostly reused sprites from a different character that have been creatively recolored and repurposed to make Baihe play differently from Tianhuo.
That in it of itself isn't bad, as it's just a consequence of there being close to no developers on the game anymore. They are scrunched enough as it is just trying to keep the servers alive, keep balance in the roster relatively even, and fix bugs.
And I stress this so much that I need to repeat:
THERE ARE ONLY THREE DEVELOPERS WORKING ON THIS GAME RIGHT NOW.
I stress that because those three devs are doing an amazing job for the team that they have, but it's clearly not enough to keep the game afloat.
And sadly, due to the lack of developers, a lot of people who backed this game on kickstarter will never get the single player story content that they specifically paid for. Not so much as an arcade mode with text at the bottom of the screen that gives the story of each character.
As such, I can recommend this game, for what it is, but just know that this game is mostly abandoned, minus the few developers left that try their damnedest to keep the game running.

I love this game, the art style and character designs are perfect, the animations are super smooth, and overall the game is just super fun! I highly reccomend this for anyone who is a fan of animals and fighting!! <3
I would kill and die for Arizona and Vixen
I like this game a lot, and that's why I can never forgive Maximum for what they did. Sacking off the original Mane6 devs as well as extra DLC and story mode content, when there was so much that could have been? No. TFH could have been the next big thing - it WOULD have been the next big thing. But publishers only want revenue these days, and have no respect for creative visions.
I'll continue playing this game here and there, but I ain't spending any more money on this - and neither should you.

Amazing game, beautiful art, But it's hard as FUCK. Be prepared for a challenge but definitely play it

I remember Fighting Is Magic being shown off at a 2012 Convention, only to know Hasbro killed it.
A studio, with a full re-skin and love from MLP's own producer Lauren Faust it was revived.
And now, a full 12 years later, history has repeated itself.
No longer in development, both the website and steam page promises a Story Mode that will never come.
Maximum Entertainment, at least be honest that you're selling a dead, beaten horse.

Pretty fun game. It reminds me a lot of Skullgirls. The gameplay is very engaging, but I wish there were more players online. It's rare to play a game where you can tell the devs clearly gave a shit and said "lt's make the best game ever"

This game was great. Like, just overall as a *fighting game* this game was wonderful.
But unless you wanna dedicate a unhealthy and unreasonable amount of time getting good at a game that has a very, *very* small playerbase and won't be getting any balance changes or updates ever again?
Don't.
Save your money, get a mainstream fighting game. Take it from the guy who loved and lost 141 hours to this game. It's not worth it any more.
Despite the game's current condition, It's still a pretty cool game. Easy to learn controls as well.
I'm a long-time fighting game fan, and this is one of the best fighting games I've ever played. On a technical level, on a design level, and with a focus on welcoming newcomers to 2d fighting games into the core concepts without holding their hands. The animation, character design, tutorial mode, and overall fighting mechanics are wonderful. The first chapter of the story mode is challenging and charming in equal measure. The fighting is fast but responsive, fluid, and with a smartly designed combo system and a clever character-unique "magic" system.
I love every single character in this game, they all pop with personality and their fighting styles match them perfectly. As mentioned, their designs and their animations are top notch.
That's all why this is such a tragedy. This is a lovingly-crafted fighting game made by genre enthusiasts and fans of animation... that has been taken away from its creators and shuttered, unfinished, by an uncaring publisher after they acquired the rights.
I love this game, and it's immensely well-made. But recommend? I can't. It's quite literally unfinished and never will be finished. And this publisher does not deserve to have this stolen and hollowed-out project make money for them. A sad, sad story.
Unfortunately a fighting game that becomes abandonware is not a fighting game worth buying, thanks to m6 (not the publisher) for the fun times tho and gl in your future endeavors
For me, probably one of the biggest draws was the Story mode, and that has been cancelled. Publisher killed this game. Fun game otherwise but I cannot recommend an unfinished game that has been left to rot

PROS
+ Lauren Faust and Mane 6 made this game using the leftovers of Fighting is Magic after a cease and desist by Hasbro (Thanks Hasbro!) It was made by Bronies for Bronies.
+ it's a solid fighting game that's easy to pick up with lots of depth for mastery.
+ Salt mines, I love that mini game.
+ I remember when the animation was sketch art, it looks a lot better now.
CONS
- story mode ain't finished and never will be

- tone of the game was broken by the addition of male characters, a main draw for the game was that it boasted an all female main cast. Just like MLP.
Overall, it was a good game with high hopes when it began and then Maximum came in and crashed and burned it. I don't think I'll be updating
