A lot of negative reviews are people who find the game too hard. It's a hard game. Here are some of my favourite complaints from negative reviews.
"Enemy AT and Arty never misses and can engage well out of visibility range."
^ Skill issue (Artillery out of visible range? That's what you're upset about?)
"Fastest tank can't seen to shake targeting."
^ Skill issue (Translation: "Why can't my 40 tonne metal vehicle outrun the aim of a man hidden in a bush with a PIAT?")
"3rd mission you have 3 objectives, basic infantry, and light tanks vs heavy tanks and op arty."
^ Skill issue (Translation: "Why is playing as Germany in 1944 is hard?")
"Wanna try arty? nope. Can't hit anything either and will get blasted before they are in range."
^ Skill issue (Translation: "I don't know how to use forward observers.")
"The micro managing of the units is quite a chore."
^ Skill issue (Translation: "I want the AI to play the game for me.")
It's a hard game. It won't hold your hand and it's happy and quick to punish your mistakes. If you're a wehraboo who wants your Tiger to be invincible this isn't the game for you.
Disgusting company,disgusting game.
its really fun and very much strategic type of game, but i like it.
I get to advance.
Awesome game just a lot of work when your soldiers are every where so much can happen in seconds
I'm writing a quick review to take to task the blithering drivel currently being spewed by kids that blast a game they know nothing about, after playing it for 20 minutes.
This is a great game not a good game. Yes the AI will shoot through windows and nail you the moment you enter the range of a tank or AT gun - so what. This game was meant for human competition play and it's fantastic.
Everyone wants INSTANT gratification of their little game and has no patience for watching well planned tactics rewarded. If you're a lightweight or cupcake, stick to some comical FPS with crazy avatars. If you appreciate well a well developed game, then give this one a try. I will say the sucessor Steel Division 2 is easier to play and is strictly Eastern Front. It is also a fantastic game worth your time.
Great RTS
If you're looking for a review on this game you've come to the wrong place, but if you're looking for an outstanding pie recipe you've come to the right place.
Ingredients:
1. 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
2. 1/2 cup white sugar
3. 1/2 cup brown sugar
4. 1/4 cup water
5. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
6. 1 pinch salt
7. 5 apples - peeled, cored and sliced
8. 1 pastry for double-crust pie
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
2. Combine butter, white sugar, brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and set aside.
3. Roll out half the pastry to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place bottom crust in pie plate; pour in apple slices.
4. Roll out top crust into a 10-inch circle. Cut into 8 (1-inch) wide strips with a sharp paring knife or pastry wheel. Weave the pastry strips, one at a time, into a lattice pattern. Fold the ends of the lattice strips under the edge of the bottom crust and crimp to seal.
5. Pour butter-sugar mixture over top of pie, coating the lattice, and allowing any remaining sauce to drizzle through the crust.
6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and bake until the crust is golden brown, the caramel on the top crust is set, and the apple filling is bubbling, 35 to 40 more minutes. Allow to cool completely before slicing.
love it
very fun RTS. different than others but very engaging in late game and fun
basically you invade normandy and liek download it now
Good graphics for a tactical game with very detailed units to have a great variety of strategic options every match. The story is also enjoyable while still being challenging.
I got this game a long time ago finally getting around to playing it. I cant give it a thumbs up. Ill make this quick. They did a lot of things well, But as you can read in the other reviews. The micro managing of the units is quite a chore. They very really want to do anything for themselves. In some of the larger battles that can get to be to much where i lose units because i cant keep up with whats going on out there
A great game and a game that is overlooked. Don't take this game for granted. Enjoy it! I surely did!
Good
Very fun WW2 game
Good strategy game. Harder levels are a challenge to beat
The fighting is close up and personal do to the hedges trees and forest. Not a lot of long range shooting. Heavy use of infantry, artillery, and flame throwers. Tanks by themselves will get taken out by enemy infantry. You will need to use all your resources wisely to be successful. Plenty of squad and platoon tactics with armor in support.
Game looks great with the graphic overhaul DLC, tutorials are clear so far. It is like the good old Close Combat vibe, with more up it's sleeve!
yes
real strategy like recommended
Enjoyable
fun
Single player campaign sucks. You just repel insane op onslaughts for way too long in every single mission.
Game looks good but your units are stupid as shit
i want my scalps
I've only played this in solo (campaign, history & skirmish modes) and can recommend it for those like me who arent that great with w/ fast-clickfest pvp matches. It has the active pause where you can issue and string commands when the game is paused. My nitpicks are the units are tiny (sure it's to scale but it would be nice if it was bigger when zoomed out to appreciate the unit models and become more scale when zooming in). Another bad is the replays saved almost never save completely or out of sync when going back to review. I also wished the the key C (for line-of-sight range view would at least show the unit's firing range-limit).
Despite these, I liked it enough to buy the DLC that has the historical missions to extend my playtime.
Great RTS game.
For me I don't play RTS online I play them SP, so I don't care if the game only have 5 players playing it.
game has a good campaign and great map designs, if you don't care about online PVP and wanna play SP then buy it, if you really care go get Steel Division II it probably has more players to play online against.
Can't compete with conqurence.
Gameplay:
For a Sudden Strike fan, it's very difficult to recommend this game.
In this type of game we have to play the role of a general who sets up a strategy and orders his men to follow it, we have to be able to anticipate the opponent's movements and modify our strategy accordingly, unfortunately in steel division we have more the impression of being soldiers who look at their own role as cannon fodder, zeor strategie, you deploy your units and do as you're told, you go straight ahead and don't try the slightest initiative.
The missions are good and the deployment of units is very well done, but that's not enough for a positive review.
You need to offer more alternatives to the mission, war isn't about going straight ahead, you also need to offer fewer units but more interaction with the units, there also needs to be more complicity between the units, we have the impression that the units aren't giving the rest of the company the information.
Graphic design:
The game is very beautiful, the view is really very good, it's really the only point on which I can say that steel division can offer something to compete with conqurence, once again it's not enough.
Price:
This scam is the final point that puts a negative review for this game.
Deluxe edition that offers no DLC, I have the deluxe edition but I see that half of the content is not free in the game, thank you but even at 9 euro it's too expensive.
It needs strategy, it's war without strategy. Move, shoot and shut up.
If you like Strategy, Tactics, tower defence games, come and discover what's available on steam.

These devs are trying to hard to make the game inaccessible, hard to control camera, all units need intense micromanagement and need to be told to get out of trucks etc
A very fun real-time strategy game.
El peor rts que jugue en mi vida, men of war es mucho mejor.
great campaign with plenty of missions but multi player is dead and nobody is in cue
(you can still play with friends against AI)
the game is fun but I wish more people need to play multiplayer.
Probably one of the worst strategy games and franchises on the market. With a horrible control scheme and poor unit balancing, this game is a great away to waste your time. Stop playing Steel Division until the devs' game design gets better.
Its a fun game, some of the solo missions can get annoying when you rely on AI.
The idea of a strategy game like this is really really cool. The maps are pretty good and the game is steeped in history. Amazing unit variety, though not really enough division types for both Allies & Axis, and little to no representation for press-ganged Czechs and Poles in Axis division, which is weird given that made up a large proportion of the enlisted Wehrmacht in Normandy IRL.
I've played for nearly 200 hours and I have to say the game has serious balancing issues. Even on the easiest difficulty, the AI will still have some bonus's against you and BY FAR, the worst part of the game is the fact that it heavily relies...no wait, ENTIRELY RELIES on you micro-managing every single unit, which is absolutely not possible.
It's such an odd decision given that the real-life military operates with huge decentralization and encouragement of initiative, but not in this game. One moment you will be microing your recon units far from the front line, the next your tank has been destroyed because it failed to take the appropriate evasive action because YOU DIDN'T TELL IT TO! It's honestly so poor, for me it does make the game borderline unplayable, since you are having to pause it longer than the length of the actual mission you are playing just to micro everything appropriately.
Also, I find the game mechanics to be very strange and inconsistent. For me, using Recon is very difficult since they always get found, and never reveal enough about the enemy to warrant any use, but the AI recon is a damn nuisance that will uncover everything about you. Like I said balancing issues.
It's also possible that I'm just really, really sh*t and this is all my fault. I doubt it though, since I am an RTS veteran.
spawn squad
squad gets shot at once
PINNED DOWN
squad then surrenders to one person
fuck this fucking game i want a refund
Don't bother pick level to play on, even easy is f-in hard, don't fire on target even if your hidden in woods they no you are there in the first place.
It is possible to WIN with a lot Practice (Tip get your little army dude's in a couple houses, any other little army dude's come closer, shoot shit out of them, then run to the next house, then back to the house (the first one you started shooting the fucker's), then keep doing this over and over, you will get there eventually.
It is NOT BAD of a game, just very frustrating and up setting.
The base game is not worth it, and the DLCs are not worth how much it costs for all of them.
