This was a great game, and it was really fun flying to the world height border!

Oftentimes the sequel/follow up to a game isn't as good as the original, whether its for moving away from the games core mechanics or because its lacking the passion of the original game. SteamWorld Dig 2 is one of the few games where I feel like it's genuinely been improved in almost every way compared to the original.

Compared to the first game, Dig 2 goes much stronger into the metroidvania genre (which i'm a big fan of). There's a much bigger emphasis on exploring and coming back to places after getting new equipment. However, this game still maintains the core point of this game where you are trying to dig dig dig.

SteamWorld Dig 2 also new upgrades that don't just copy the first game (although the punch is a bit similar). There's also more enemy variety and a bigger focus on boss battles which is fun and I would say most of the time is still fairly easy to beat. The only real complain I would give to this game is that the secrets can feel kinda arbitrary in the sense that some I'm not sure if it was intended for you to be able to find the secrets via visual cues or if the intent is for you to explore every single crevice possible for the chance of a invisible wall. Even if this is the case there are some upgrades that can make this a fairly simple process.

Overall, I think SteamWorld Dig 2 is even better than the first one and I would highly recommend playing it. Its a bit short for 20$ but honestly I thinks its worth it, feel free to wait till its on sale though if it feels steep. So long as you like Metroidvania games or just exploration games in general I think you'll have a good time.

Better than it's predecessor in all but the main character who I saw no reason for the change, but since that was mostly cosmetic of a change I'm not really counting that against this.

If you liked the first one you will like this one perhaps even more like I did.

You'll probably like SteamWorld Dig 2 if (but not only if!): You'd like a wholesome Metroidvania where you dig down, explore, find gems, and return to town to buy upgrades.

More story driven than the first game and Dot's powers make her slightly more powerful than Rusty was. A very good Metroidvania rogue like.

oh boy!! i can't wait to see what silly shenanigans my favourite character cranky gets up to in this game!! he was my FAVOURITE character in steamworld dig!! i can't wait to see his return!!

Despite the reviews being "Overwhelmingly Positive", this game utterly disappoints.

First of all, the title being SteamWorld "Dig" 2, players like me who haven't tried nor heard of the former series would think that this game emphasizes mining and digging. Yet this game emphasizes on puzzles and platforming, and the mining aspect of the game does not stand out, which feels quite scummy.

Furthermore, the world itself is hardcoded, basically means that the mines are not randomised. Even though it's optimal for speed running, it lacks replay value to the game.

Speaking of platforming, the controls of this game are god awful, especially the use of hookshots and platforming without extra accessories/items. The physics of this game is off and it definitely ruined the overall experience of this game.

Finding the secrets and artifacts of this game is also frustrating. As some of the times a hidden passage just shows up when you walk into a wall with no such indicators, which is not fun at all. Discovering secrets are supposed to be rewarding, this game fails to deliver that to the players. I did found 42 of the artifacts, yet I did not feel even the slightest of accomplishment.

The boss fights of this game are quite lame and off putting. At times it's also frustrating as the boss literally spams projectiles at you, especially the final boss. Some attacks are even unavoidable if you managed to be in a "wrong" place of the map.

In conclusion, I would not recommend this game. However if you ask me whether you should give it a try, I would say sure, but don't have too high expectations on this game.

This is weird to say but I don't think I like this game. Hard to put my finger on but I don't find the gameplay loop all that interesting, and it's not different enough from Steamworld Dig 1 to stand apart. Not at its core, at least. I know this game is well loved but..it just didn't do anything for me.

Picked this up on sale. So far looks like a fancy modern dig dug. Nice art design. It is a platformer so puzzles and also making your own way or your own hole to get stuck in. Very nice upgrade systems. I would only play this with a controller. But it's worth picking up on the steam sale right now if you were always curious about it.

This is a bite-sized adventure that doesn’t overstay its welcome, but every second is packed with purpose. It’s the kind of game that leaves you craving just one more round. It’s features a balanced mix of exploration, mining, and puzzle-solving, with a cool steampunk vibe that pulls you in. The gameplay is smooth, the upgrades are satisfying, and digging through the earth is oddly addictive.

Fun to play, and not complicated.

Fun little platformer with all sorts of cool weapons, tools and upgrades to make your gameplay very customizable to your play style. The world is decently sized and as you get new abilities it encourages you to visit places you've already been in order to find secrets you couldn't previously access. Straight forward platformer game mechanics but as you get new tools you can move and flow through the world much more fluidly. I didn't play the first one so I was a little lost on the plot but it was fairly compelling. I spent about 45 hours to beat the game and enjoyed my time in this world. It's certainly worth the money!

I rarely ever understood the "childs yern for the mines" thing but after playing this game i think i understand now.

On a serious note, i let a lot of years pass by before actually playing this game, all i can say is that if you get it even at original price, it will be worth it, lots of exploring and a fun upgrades system that rewards exploration

Leagues better than the first one. Plenty of exploring, mining, puzzles, and secrets.

Not very far at all into this game, and already stuck in a loop I can't find a way out of.

Tried for hours. I give up. I'm starting to see what these games are. Not for me. Extremely simple and not made to think, and on top of that, bad game design.

I played Speedy Egg Burt when I was a bit younger...that game was light years ahead of this.
It was free in a cereal box. It had 1000x the effort and design put into it. It was designed for fun.
This is not. This is a half-baked piece of software designed to look pretty, sell a few copies, and move on to the next half-baked attempt. I see your shelf is full of these. lol. I wouldn't even consider playing another one of your games.

Remember Motherload? This is the closest you can get to it in the present day and is a vastly superior game in scope.

Did you enjoy playing that old flash game "Motherlode" on a school computer when you were supposed to be paying attention to the teacher? Did you wish that game was expanded to be a 10ish hour long Metroidvania? Well here you go!

6.8/10 I had a good time with it although I could not care less about completing the post-game content.

I LOVE THIS SERIES AND I LOVE ALL THE STEAM WORLD DIG AND HEIST GAMES BUT SPECIFICALLY DIG 2 HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART PLEASE PLEASE MAKE THE SEQUEL I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR OVER 6 OR SO YEARS PLEASE.

Much improved version of the previous entry. Continuation of the basic story. Great mechanics and some challenging puzzles.

Fun like the first one, much more expansive and a lot of content with the upgrades + some hard sections but still a fun game and very lovely visuals.

Perfectly quick and sweet. Could have sunk another 8 hours into this completing to 100 percent.

A good game by all accounts, but slightly underwhelmed after seeing 'Overwhelmingly Positive' reviews, not overwhelmed in the slightest, a good time kill though.

Its a nice 10ish hour game with a decent amount of stuff to find and stuff to unlock, I had quite a bit of fun playing it.
