A great classic.

Ahhhhhhhh - The Timeless classic. So happy this is on stream and i got indulge in some nostalgia.

It's still really fun to play to this day! It's a lot easier than i remember it though, but then again... I was a kid when it came out!

Still one of the best city builder games ever made. Wish they would remaster this

A timeless classic, though also the easiest of the isometric Impressions city builders.

A classic worth buying at 5 times the cost! I played Caesar 3 a lot too. Like them both, but this one sort of tweaks Caesar and adds a few fun extras.

Imagine if they not only updated this one but did a modern version of it? The graphics now days for everything from a simple house to a Greek god would be amazing to see and sure to make someone a ton of money!

Too bad no one does it. There are so many old classics that if done in a modern form, and changing the actual game play very little, would continue to be masterpieces and make someone a lot of money. Instead too many companies come up with their 'new ideas' which fall flat or fail in some way that keeps them from being anywhere near as fun as many of these old ones. Too bad. We all lose.

But at least we can still pick up some of these old classics which, despite outdated graphics, are still more fun to play than most of what comes out now days.

If you like city builders then...it's fun to play, has a reasonably good tutorial and its cheap! That makes it almost perfect! 9.978/10 Buy it! ;-)

This game has such an unforgettable vibe and a lot of soul!

Played this a ton when I was a kid, I was so happy to be able to revisit the game.
It's way easier than I remembered, sure, but I think for the time it is great.

Standard city builder, but with Greek gods and monsters to wreak havoc across your city! - Build me a pyre to roast my friends upon!

This is the best city builder I've played. It focuses more on management than creativity, but it's all beautiful.

Had to stop playing after getting a 2k monitor. Had to play around with the script just for a 1080 monitor let alone 2k. Game's just outdated in that sense but SO MUCH FUN and fulfilling. Huge step up from Pharaoh imo.

You should play it. Soothing mainscreen music too.

Absolutely legendary game. The old Impressions/Sierra games were my childhood and they surprisingly aged really well (some walker mechanics aside). Love the lighthearted take on this game compared to the more standard tone they take in their other games. I will never get tired of the dozens of creative insults thrown my way when I don't fulfill a diplomacy task.

For anyone looking to pick this up, or Caesar 3 for that matter, I just want to warn you that optimizing your building placement and your paths are absolutely crucial for these games. The walkers (basically, the entities that travel, deliver, or provide services) are a very unique element to these games and can take some getting used to. Zeus + Poseidon does add some elements to make it easier though. The evolving buildings are also pretty unique to these games, and definitely had me addicted to perfecting a couple of villas while Caesar's army was at my gates demanding the money I spend perfecting said villas.

Good city-builders with this level of detail, ambiance, and a rewarding campaign are becoming increasingly hard to find these days. Honestly this is in the hall of fame of city-builders. It's truly a classic, and will definitely occupy a few hours of your day.

Also, I really love the mellow and atmospheric approach they took to making the soundtrack. It's very relaxing. Until the scenario boss shows up and takes over the music until it's dispatched.

Played this (and reread the manual!) a ton as a kid. There's a track in the OST called Mnimio which is one of the most memorable pieces of music from my childhood, and that's including the Mario Galaxy games. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, this is easily one of my favorite games of all time!

(I did notice that the Grower's Lodge workers have a different, much deeper voice in this Steam version compared to the CD version that I played growing up. It's such a minute change but it threw me off given how iconic the voice lines are to me lol)

i like it old classic strategy game :) if u like strategy games u need to buy this .

I have played this game for its first release and enjoyed many hours in this fantasy world . Now I am having problems with setting and resolution and I am not sure how to fix this so I can once again play this game. I play through steam now and installed that game from their website. As it is not a steam game but belonging to a different game provider therefore there is no real help when a player runs into problems. I would love to play this game once again and believe it is an all time classic game that should be kept updated to new PC operations. or any other platform.

If you're tired of modern flops like Skylines 2 and would like to get into old school city builders, Zeus is the best for this. There's a lot of quality of life and streamlining in this one compared to Caesar and Pharaoh - you no longer have to place housing near workplaces; there's no longer a dozen needs to satisfy; you can now place neat roadblocks which limit where your walkers can go, allowing you to shape up districts nicely. Some may call it casual, but to me it's fun and ensures I can actually complete adventures before it gets too boring and tedious.

The main feature of Zeus is its mythological flavor, which the setting of Ancient Greece perfectly lends itself to. It takes the monument building found in Pharaoh and makes it 10 times more exciting by adding actual gods that walk around your city and confer powerful bonuses. There are also heroes and monsters, and all of them can be your enemy or ally. The world map/diplomacy has also been improved, allowing you to raid your neighbours for resources, conquer them for tribute, ask favors and, of course, trade with them. Some scenarios let you found colonies, which places a new city on the map after you build it up.

It is not without flaws, however. Most are due to its old age - you will need to find and install the widescreen resolution fix (1280x720 works best in my experience) and an animation fix for the widescreen fix... yeah. That aside, there are some old bugs that were never fixed as well as some flaws from the game design perspective. For example, invading monsters can be either crippling if they block a critical resource deposit, or trivial if they're placed somewhere you'd never think to build anyway. Same goes for gods - their attacks can be super annoying, their bonuses can get repetitive, like there's 3 of them who add more food to your granaries, while some are too worthless to consider. World map can be trivialized by repeatedly raiding your weak rival to death, solving the economy while improving the relationship with every other rival in the process.

If you don't like the existing scenarios, you can make your own - with city maps, events, winning conditions, the whole thing. However, I never had the patience for this, and it feels difficult to get it right. For example, setting up tribute cities pay is a great balancing act - too little and it doesn't change how you play at all, too much and it trivializes your economy. And have too many cities paying tribute - and you get spammed with messages at the beginning of each year.

Zeus would be the perfect game to remake, improving on game design and adding some modern features like blueprints, however the problem is I'm not at all confident in the ability of modern gamemakers to do that. Pharaoh New Era was somehow remade to be worse than the original, and Citadelium, while nominally inspired by some of Zeus' features, made me cringe when I saw my Roman trade advisor being a black woman named Fabia...

So even with all its flaws, to me Zeus continues to be the best city-builder humankind ever created, being just the right mix of complexity, immersiveness and fun.

This game is my childhood

It's a fun game. It improves on a few aspects compared to Pharaoh such as faster 'Wonders' building, better-managed armies, no need to place one-off houses in industrial districts and religion is infinitely better as you can summon heroes to fight mythical monsters or get the gods to give you exactly what you want.

Unfortunately it doesn't have the depth of Pharoah in my opinion. I personally find it fun to have a gigantic industrial district with 20-30 production buildings and being able to trade directly from my storehouses rather than a dedicated trading post. Also you can only feed your people from specific farms rather than having 3-4-5 different food sources available to you. There's also a maximum distance your vendors will fetch goods from, this can make building Sanctuaries a bit annoying as sometimes my mine will be farther off than the sanctuary and I'll have to manually move marbles around. Not the biggest deal but I like having workers automatically bring the building materials from across the map.

The game is overall wonderful, beautifully crafted, it holds up extremely well even to this day as Impression Games have always had unique art style that even now, nearly 25 years after release it looks amazing. I love the religion system, amazing improvement over Pharoah and missions play out much much faster. Great game, 9/10 for me.

I used to play this one a lot as a kid/teen. It's like Caesar or Pharao, but with greek culture and mythology. Really great strategy city builder, but me personally, I'm heading for "Pharao: A new era". Gotta be picky, because I don't have the time for many time-consuming, but fun games =D Nevertheless, play this! It's a classic, but still fun. Simply timeless

This has been my favorite Greek Mythology game since I was a kid and I still love it. Highly recommended! 10 out of 10!

This and Pharaoh were the first two games I ever played as a child, I've loved them since their original release back in like 2001. These are legit just a straight port with maybe some graphics update but I still play them from time to time when I want to remember a time when my back didn't hurt and I didn't have crippling depression <3

One of the best, if not the best city builder game : the game is well balanced between difficulty and realism. I probably have over 5000+ hours playing this before getting it back on steam. I wish a remake of that type of game instead of shiit like just having name I then name II then name III game who don't even try improving anymore.

Never could get into cezar or pharoh because they seemed way too complicated and hard. Zeus on the other hand was much simpler, (in my opinion) prettier and better in every way so it ended up being my favorite IG game.

Great classic city builder. I grew up playing this and Baldurs Gate 2. Does have a slight learning curve but when you master it, the game keeps on giving.

I still remember saving up money for two summers so I could optimize my computer for these old school gems.

A game from my childhood that for me is screaming out for a faithful remake to allow for modern gamers to enjoy this wonderful game. You can of course download patches for better resolutions. But if this was to be remade with the current gen in mind, it would be a wonderful step for this gaming classic.

The recent release of Age of Mythology: Retold showed how good a faithful remake can be. So I truly hope to see this remade with the same dedication in the future.

As it stands, gameplay is fantastic as it ever was. The game offers a fun challenge to the city building genre, thanks in part to the element of events occuring such as God invasions or Enemy City invasions. being able to create a working city with epic temples is always a plus.

I'd love somewhere down the line to see an expanded universe in the style of Zeus, introducing additional pantheons, the addition of Atlantis with the Posiedon expansion was great, but if this gameplay could be expanded to include the gods of Egypt, or even a reskinned version of our current gods as they were for the Romans. It would be for me a welcome addition to an excellent game.

I'd recommend this to anyone who loves Greek mythology and city building games. This has been a staple of my gaming history from when I first played it back in the early 2000s, to playing it now in 2024.

it would be great if be able to use WASD to panning the camera. My arms were sore so badly after using the arrow.
