Описание

A malevolent force known only as Lina is devouring data from a vast, interdimensional network of servers overseen by sentient computers called ”motes.” In desperation, the motes summon heroes from a variety of parallel game worlds to face off against each other in one-on-one combat. The tournament victor has the potential to be awakened as the Blade Stranger—the savior who can vanquish Lina and protect the motes from further harm!

Developed by Studio Saizensen, Blade Strangers is a hardcore old-school fighting game. The streamlined four-button control scheme makes it easy for beginners to deal out damage from day one…but the intricate combos, counters and specials give tournament-caliber players plenty of opportunities for frame counting, chain construction and hit-box science.

-Fighter roster includes characters from previous Studio Saizensen games (like Code of Princess and Sayonara Umihara Kawase), Nicalis games (like Cave Story+) and other surprise entrants
-Each character has eight different color settings and their own familiar “home” stage
-Proprietary development system transforms 3-D models and animation into 2-D spritework; every frame looks like a gorgeous anime drawing
-Online competition play
-Accessible controls designed to bring fresh blood to the ranks of fighting-game fans worldwide

I think this game is awesome. I waited years to play it and no one really plays it online now but the gameplay and the characters and even the kind of lame story mode are all really fun.
This game is actually very similar to a game that came later Gran Blue Fantasy Vs. The controls are similar without the meter stuff. I think the game is really fun but hey it's kind of dead. It's out there though and if you and your friend wanna try it out then go do it!

Can anyone port this Solange back to Code of Princess/EX?
I was worry about the low frame rate movement of characters in this fighting game. But, this is a casual fighting game, not a hardcore/e-sport ready one. So, it is fine here.

This is as good of a time as any to remind everyone to separate the artist from the people who pay the artist; as while some of my all time favorite games may have the Nicalis logo on them, they didn't make them. they simply published them. And nowhere is it abundantly more clear that Nicalis has no idea what makes any of their intellectual properties actually good than in Blade Strangers. This game should've been the easiest win ever; a 2D fighting game starring Nicalis's greatest heroes (plus whoever was in Code of Princess), complete with online multiplayer. doesn't that sound totally epic?? Unfortunately, and I say this without any hyperbole, Blade Strangers may be the worst game I've played this year. From the disgusting obsession of oversexualizing the characters, to the completely nonsensical cringe-fest they call a plot, to just how utterly broken the entire game is; this is a game that just keeps taking from you.

An evil naked cyborg lady thing is threatening the world as we know it, and the Goddess Exiva calls in the universe's mightiest (Nicalis) heroes to stop her. THIS... THIS RIGHT HERE IS EPIC CINEMA... wait hold up then why are all the heroes fighting each other?? that seems counterproductive... ah well, clearly I shouldn't be asking such unnecessary questions . To be fair, the fighting is actually pretty cool; taking the best of both worlds. We've got the move sets of the Super Smash Bros. series, and the HP meters and movement of Street Fighter And the character variety -strictly speaking on power levels- is remarkably solid as well. There are big heavy hitters like Master T, taking up half the screen and bringing a wallop with physical, more hands on attacks; there are half-and-half kinds of characters like Quote and Curly who bring in some range with guns ablazing, but can also hold their own in a fist fight; and we've got characters like Isaac, who rely almost entirely on range attacks, staying far away from any sort of conflict, taking out foes from a mile away. On paper, this all sounds amazing; but in practice? feels a bit half-baked. For starters, this game was clearly designed with a controller in mind, and since I don't have a Steam controller, I was stuck on keyboard; which kind of stinks. For my first hour of playing or so, I was straight up mashing buttons, going all like “hausdfasjkldhkasghdshkfghkasdsdhasdjh” (that's basically what the combat would look like if you typed it on notepad), and I was WINNING BIG TIME. Once I actually started learning the controls for real, it only took me a minute or so to realize just how broken the combat is. For example, if you play as Master T, you can win just by pushing your opponent into the wall and spamming your hammer arm attack. The swing is both high enough to hit jumping opponents and strong enough to break shields. I won the entire campaign by doing this. The opponent Al isn't particularly smart, even on the highest difficulty. Enemies tend to just stand in one place for seconds at a time, taking each hit like a total chump; while barely using half their move set. And good luck playing online, as this game is about as dead as it gets.

Blade Strangers' production value is kind of an odd topic, as there's clearly a lot of talent and effort on screen, it's just... in all the wrong places. The game starts off on a good note, with an incredibly slick animated intro showcasing all the heroes, all with an original song with some lady singing vaguely about the main plot. And things quickly start going downhill from there. If you somehow haven't noticed the trend already, every single female character either has an overly exaggerated pair of hooters on their chest and is wearing the most revealing outfit possible. Princess Solange (who might actually be my least favorite character in all of fiction) is basically naked, wearing nothing but “bikini armor”, with assets so large they're almost as long as Isaac is tall. Every single character is given, uhm, physics, which is stupid for just so many reasons. like, why the heck did you give Curly boob physics?? SHE'S A FRICKIN' ROBOT. And apparently all this suggestive material wasn't enough, as not only did they give fisher-person Kawase a big pair too, but they also made Sexy Kawase: a version of her in skimpy beach wear who for some reason IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PLAYABLE CHARACTER. moving on. If you ignore the constant jiggling, the character models are actually really really good, and full of personality. The game only has 17 different characters, by the way; and considering one of them is literally lady in sexy swimsuit, it's probably safe to say they were really at the bottom of the barrel for ideas. but, like, what about Misery? where's Azazel? what about the Doctor?! he would've been an awesome choice for a fighting game! but NO, let's instead have EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER FROM THE CODE OF PRINCESS CAST. They literally make up like a third of the roster. The action looks fluid and flashy, with a lot of extra effects and things to make everything more dynamic; and it's fun without getting in the way. However, I do think the character quips were a bit much. The voice acting is really loud and obnoxious, and while a couple of the jokes were okay and even sort of in character, it wasn't long before I was begging for the characters to shut up and fight. (all the more reason why I love Quote and Isaac: they don't talk). Also, Lina -the naked cyborg lady trying to eat the universe- says and I quote “it feels so goooood!!” whenever someone punches her in the power button . . . . my brother thought I was playing a hentai game. The stages look pretty slick, with each character getting at least one battlefield to call their own (Code of Princess got five. five whole freakin' levels. what do they even see in that game??). They're not amazing, but they have enough little details to prove the artists at least knew a little bit about the source material. And finally, the heavy metal soundtrack is some great stuff; with a number of song remixes that I'd actually listen to outside of gaming. sure wish the rest of the game could be that good.

Even on the basic fundamentals of gaming Blade Strangers doesn't work. I mean, take a look at the title screen! “Press Any Button to Start”. okay. how about Enter ...nothing. Space? A? which one is it?? … OH, it's F! silly me. I should've known that. I don't know if it's because I chose Keyboard Support, but the tutorials were no help AT ALL; getting every single button wrong. The pause menu will often glitch and not open, the menu screens themselves look like they were animated in PowerPoint, and the game weirdly doesn't take advantage of the fact that it's a video game. The moment you start up, every character is already unlocked, every challenge is ready, and there are no secrets or really anything you have to earn. All these things might be small, but it's odd; and gives the sense that people didn't care.

From a purely technical standpoint, I've seen games much worse than Blade Strangers; but just everything about what it stands for makes me internally scream. This is what happens when a company makes a game with all their popular characters without having a single idea why people liked them in the first place. What an utter bastardization of some of the most beloved indie classics. shame.
