I experienced no launch problems, despite other reviews
I was surprised to find that, after a short look at last reviews, there were a few giving it a thumbs down because they couldn't launch it, even on Win 10. I don't know what systems they're smoking but it runs fine on Win 11 - just press play.
This game is a real oddball. It has big, nicely cluttered hidden object scenes, the graphics are a little rough around the edges, the villain is a bit over-the-top, ambient music is good enough to leave it on, and my mouse actually sped up in-game.
I played on Expert to get more play time, and found myself getting temporarily stuck quite a few times. This was due to several reasons. Sometimes I didn't realise just how many hidden scenes there would be in the main story. Sometimes there's some decent backtracking - there's no map, but I didn't think this mattered. Actually, in the hidden scenes I had trouble with some words. Sometimes due to my own skill, sometimes just poor wording on the part of the game.
Some examples: 'kiwi' is in the game twice - the fruit and the animal. Watermelon is in twice - the whole fruit, and a slice. Some of the worst offenders? 'Dagger' looks more like a long sword in the scene. One clue I had to look up was 'pu$sy willow'. I'd never heard of it before. One 'tulip' even looked like a scrunched up ball of paper half buried in shadows - I couldn't tell what it was. One 'water bottle' looked like a sad sack - I thought feet heaters in bed were supposed to be flat, not a bag of potatoes. Also, 'knight' and 'chessman' were both clues in the same scene that were both actually chess pieces. I was originally looking for a man playing chess for 'chessman'.
An example of my own fault (because at this point I was thoroughly confused and didn't know what to expect) was a simple winch that took around 25 minutes to find.
One padlock has a hole so large it looks like you could pick the lock with your finger.
I had a barrel of laughs just looking for flaws and plot holes. Never mind the holographic projection of the taunting villain and somehow break-free holographic help from your son. And to top it off, the kid is named Timmy! I almost died laughing when he got abducted at the start. I guess Timmys will be rustled!

This game is just too funny to pass up. Even funnier that other reviewers are saying they can't run it (unless it was patched somewhere between us). Get it, and get out your popcorn. Play with a friend and take a drink every time you find an error or crack up laughing to amp up the laughs.
Does not work on Windows 10, has a terrible lag that makes it unplayable. I tried everything (compatibility settings etc) but it didn't work. It's a pity as it seems to be a nice game.
This game would greatly benefit the player if a MAP was available!
a bit old, but a very solid hidden object game.
This game is too old in windows 10 it lags horribly (needs to be updated) it has no map and you very little custom options. It has no fun features and is much worse than the others in this series. It is too tedious to play. I got it in a bundle with the others of the series most of which were playable.
Can't finish the game: "unknown exception in run()"
Tideville has the look and feel of an older HOPA game, but is still enjoyable thanks to plenty of HO scenes and puzzles. The story is okay, though not compelling, the voice acting is consistent, and the atmosphere and setting are very well done.
Pros:
- standard, but well-executed, word-based HO scenes with some objects requiring an extra step or two
- interesting and occasionally challenging puzzles
- pleasant, intelligent protagonist who feels more real than many
- easy to follow integrated Guide
Cons:
- the lack of a map is frustrating; there are areas with a fair bit of back and forth
- no collectables, no achievements (not even in-game achievements)
- little re-use of what should be reusable items; the bonus chapter allows more re-use of items
Note: I didn't try the Hint system, since I avoid using Hints out of habit; there is a good chance that the Hint system makes up for not having an interactive map to show you action points; I did refer to the Guide twice, but that was partly because I left the game and came back to it a couple of times, which is never optimal
The game is worth getting if you don't mind a game with an older look and feel, including no map and less than perfect graphics. The HO scenes and puzzles are a bit more challenging than more recent games, and the variety of puzzles is nice.
Engaging. Mixture of locations and challenges.
