Описание

While Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison earned her codename defusing bombs for the Global Defense Force, when evil transhumanist mastermind Dr. Jadus Heskel unleashes the members of his cybernetic cult onto the streets of Neo DC, she knows it’s time to start causing explosions instead of preventing them.

Her quest to slay Heskel leaves a trail of carnage throughout huge, multi-path levels filled with gigantic explosions, more secret areas than we can count, and inhuman foes behind every corner. There’s no regenerating health here; stop taking cover and start running and gunning.

Shelly’s crusade to take down Heskel’s army will see her leave destruction in her wake with a wide arsenal of weapons, complete with alternate fire modes and different ammo types. Her signature revolver, the tri-barreled Loverboy, brings enemies pain and players pleasure with both single shots and Old West-style hammer fanning action. Who needs a regular shotgun when you can load buckshot into your grenade launcher? Violent, over-the-top Bowling Bombs rip enemies apart with ease.

Ion Fury laughs at the idea of mandatory checkpoints and straight paths through shooting galleries. But, just because this is a true old-school first-person shooter doesn’t mean we've ignored all the good new stuff the last two decades have brought. Headshots? Hell yeah. More physics and interactivity? You betcha. Widescreen, controller support, and Auto Saves? 3D Realms and Voidpoint have taken the best of both worlds and cooked it all into a bloody stew.

  • The true successor to classic shooters such as Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood.
  • Experience the original BUILD engine on steroids, pumped up and ready to rock again after 20 years!
  • Duck, jump, climb, swim, and blast your way through 7 exciting zones packed with multiple levels of mayhem!
  • A beautiful game world assembled from thousands of hand-crafted textures and sprites
  • An awe-inspiring arsenal of devastating weapons, including multiple ammo types and alternate fire modes. Tri-barreled revolvers, grenade launchers, and heat-seeking smart bombs are your best friends!
  • The classic '90s FPS action you love, meshed with modern inventions like locational damage and seamless level transitions
  • ZERO PROCEDURAL GENERATION. All levels are hand made and full of multiple paths, cool effects, and complex set pieces!
  • Thumping soundtrack comprised of true tracked module music, in authentic FastTracker 2 format
  • Easy access on to level editor and other development tools on day one, plus Steam Workshop support

If you're like me and never quite got into the Build engine shooters (with the exception of Blood), because of the overload of non-sense that someone thought it was really hilarious for some reason, back in the 90s, this is a breath of fresh air. Even if this stupid bro mentality was what got this game intro controversy back when it was released, in its current state, it is a really solid game, and the best Build engine game by far.

This feels like a classic Build engine FPS straight from the 90's, warts and all.

Overall I had a really good experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone who's a fan of Boomer Shooters.

Weapon variety kinda sucks. Too many god damn sewers and the train tunnel level is trash. Other than that it's a badass BUILD engine game. I enjoyed it more than Duke Nukem' myself.

It is not bad, but becomes kinda boring. I'm playing at the highest difficulty (not really, not that one where enemies respawn) with disabled crosshair and doing 1-life runs, without intermediate level saves. Experience is such, good and bad:
      1) There are just a few enemy types, not enough variety
      2) All enemies have very low reaction time, are fast and deal a lot of damage. In some places it gives you an epic battle and adrenaline rush, but mostly this becomes a stealth shooter, when you carefully examine every corner - just be sure to react in a fraction of a second to kill before being killed. This is manageable, they are not unfair, but I'm not sure that is a gameplay of the year.
      3) Many secrets are extreemly hard to find, or seem impossible to reach, I always have more than half secrets missed, maybe even 3\4, even when I look for them. And you might want them given how easily you can loose all health.
      4) In the beginning ammo is very scarce, making you save every bullet, but the further you go, the more ammo you have, so that stops being a problem
      5) Level design is actually quite good. Sometimes you can even return to a previous level. And parts of levels are not blocked off by progression, which is definitely a plus - I hate when they gate levels and not let you go back and pick that medkit you noticed half a level ago.
      6) Weapons are fine. They are more or less impactful, designs are original and sounds are fine. Nothing brilliant though
      7) The style is definityly good, no questions here

The biggest downside is the general gameplay for me, too much hiding behind corners. But many other elements try to make up for it more or less. Still a worth investment if you are into the genre.
      I would give it 7 / 10

Amazing game! A lot of retro shooters will rest on their laurels of appreciating the past that they become reheated leftovers but Ion Fury is everything great about the genre and taken to the next level. A love letter to the build engine. They totally pace this type of action game.

If you like boomer shooters you'll like it, if you don't you won't. Many of the negative reviews are rife with folks complaining about the things that make a boomer shooter a boomer shooter. If you don't want to fire a zillion rounds at a hundred bad guys at once while scrambling around maze like levels looking for secrets and keys then you don't actually want to play a boomer shooter, and you will not like this game.

Actual fans of 90s shooters and boom shoots in general will be thoroughly pleased.

Oh, where to begin with this misguided trip down nostalgia lane? Ion Fury is an obnoxious love letter to an era of gaming that, frankly, should have been left behind along with dial-up internet and Y2K panic. It's as if the developers unearthed a dusty Build engine from the back of a thrift store and decided, "Yes, this is exactly what modern gamers want!"

The level design is a labyrinthine nightmare, seemingly crafted to frustrate players into quitting. Hope you enjoy pixel-hunting for keys and secret switches, because you'll be doing a lot of it while enduring endless backtracking. The maps are less "cleverly designed mazes" and more "an experiment in how quickly we can induce migraines."

And let’s talk about the combat, shall we? The enemies are bullet sponges that swarm you like mosquitoes on a humid summer night, while your arsenal feels about as effective as a slingshot against a tank. Sure, the weapons look cool, but they’re all bark and no bite. The shotgun feels like it fires confetti, and the revolver—oh, excuse me, the "Loverboy"—has a name so cringy it should come with an apology letter.

Then there's Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison, our protagonist, who oozes snark and one-liners like she’s auditioning for a 1990s action B-movie. The problem? None of it lands. Her quips are as stale as last week’s bread, and her personality is flatter than the pixelated textures that populate this so-called "game."

The graphics, while faithful to the retro aesthetic, are an eyesore in 2024. Nostalgia can only take you so far when you're squinting at low-resolution sprites and bland color palettes. And the soundtrack? It’s like someone took all the generic techno beats from a rejected Doom mod and slapped them together.

Don’t get me started on the so-called “story.” If you can call a threadbare excuse to blow things up a story, then sure, Ion Fury has one. But the plot is so laughably shallow that it makes Saturday morning cartoons look like Shakespeare.

In conclusion, Ion Fury is nothing more than a tedious exercise in frustration disguised as a retro shooter. If you enjoy wasting your time in mindless corridors filled with copy-paste enemies while enduring a protagonist who thinks she’s way cooler than she is, then by all means, knock yourself out. For the rest of us? Hard pass.

      1/10. I'd rather play Solitaire.

Ion Fury is a great old-school FPS that just plays really well. it doesn't faff around getting bogged down in its own narrative, but instead focuses on shooting bad guys and rewarding exploration. The individual maps that comprise each of the Zones are huge, but their design makes them navigable enough (although the EXIT signs strewn throughout might be a bit hand-holdy?).

The weapons are cool, although in the base campaign, I would have appreciated a ranged high-damage weapon that got filled by the Homewrecker in Aftershock. But the Clustepucks and, especially, Bowling Bombs had their effective use cases. The Disperser got bugged in the base campaign after I installed Aftershock; definitely a bug that shouldn't have been left; this is caused by the DLC adding in Ammo types in Slots 3 and 7 that cause the weapon to leave the player's arsenal. That's a very poor showing.

But on the whole, both campaigns were a real treat to play, making the best of the Build engine through EDuke32. Definitely worth the price(s) of admission.

This is a really fun game, but oh god why the hell haven't you fixed the stupid shotgun/DLC bug that leaves it inaccessible throughout the main campaign yet?! It's stupid that the bug still haven't been fixed, years after its introduction, and even various workarounds the player can try (e.g. console vars, restarting the chapter, etc) are unable to fix it for some of us. This means we are forced to play through the whole main campaign with a reduced arsenal, which also means some more ammo conservation needs to be taken into account at times.

I was almost of the mind to not recommend the game due to that stupid bug, but yes, the game is still quite fun. It would've just been even more awesome if I was allowed to use the stupid shotgun too, guys...

Not the best "boomer shooter" out there, but it's decent enough to warrant playing if you have nothing else to do. The array of weapons you get is limited but every weapon has its use (though some are extremely niche and might contribute more to you killing yourself if you use it outside those scenarios). The level design is good, and unlike older games it's unlikely that you will not know where to go next.

The biggest weakness of the game is that its enemy variety is very limited, and that the final boss is a long and boring gimmick fight.

Amazing throwback with some modern stuff mixed in, which I found very fun!

Incredible level design, really fun to play and a real challenge too, once you play on Maximum Fury difficulty.

I do think they went overboard with the secrets, wish they were easier or have some hints to find them myself. I had to rely on guides a lot for many of these secrets.

Final Boss Fight is just NUTS, I can't decide if it's so tough intentionally, or just badly designed!

And - the voice actor of Shelly did an amazing job. Believable, tough, seasoned, not over the top, it just fits incredibly well, you can tell it was voiced with heart and attention to detail.

Overall, this game is INCREDIBLE! I absolutely love it and will get Aftershock DLC went it goes on sale!

Ion Fury is a 2019 first person shooter developed by Voidpoint and published by 3d Realms, the latter of which I wasn't aware was still around. 3D Realms was known mainly for Duke Nukem 3D, one of the classic shooters of the 90s, and a game that I somehow have never played. Ion Fury is a spiritual successor, as far as I can tell. There's a ton of interactivity in the levels, from destructible fire extinguishers that blow chunks out of the walks, to being able to consume fast food lying around or throw a dart stuck on a board at enemies. Of course, a computer from the 90's would never be able to run this game, with its updated engine. There are huge open spaces and an incredible amount of environmental detail that far eclipses anything from the past era of 2.5D shooters. Ion Fury really is a gorgeous-looking game, and its aesthetic is ruined techno-dystopia and urban decay, similar to Robocop. You play as Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison, a wisecracking warrior mowing down cybernetic monsters while trying to apprehend Dr. Jadus Heskel, who resembles Dr. Kleiner from Half-Life. Ion Fury has many references to shooters of yore; its levels are riddled with air ducts like in Deus Ex, while its shotgun-wielding transhumanist enemy looks almost exactly like a Combine soldier. The guns themselves feel excellent--the penetrator, a shotgun/grenade launcher, absolutely annihilates enemies, transforming them into squishy gibs. The loverboy, Shelly's revolver, has a handy auto-aim secondary fire that's always satisfying to use. A pair of uzi machine guns that fire incendiary rounds are also a mainstay, along with a crossbow that really needs a scope. Bowling balls, little rolling grenades, are great fun for taking out large groups of enemies. A chaingun that never has enough ammo, and another throwable explosive called the clusterpuck finishes the arsenal. Although very solid, Ion Fury really misses a couple unique weapons, like Unreal's razorjack or Half-Life's snarks. Enemy variety is also poor. You'll be destroying the same three basic transhumanist enemies for most of the runtime, along with little cyborg spiders that really suck to hit, due to the Build Engine's difficulties with perspective and aiming. There are also some other enemies that the game adds during its runtime to mix things up, but you'll always be battling the aforementioned foes, which gets a little dull. The level design is usually pretty good, with the exception of a mid-game slump that has you wandering around underground. Figuring out where to go can be a challenge, and requires you to get into that retro-shooter mindset. Hunting down keys and remembering where locked doors are is essential. Also don't forget that your electro-baton, your basic melee weapon, can restart generators, which is required for progression.

Difficulty is a complex balance in shooters. On one hand, you don't want a game free of challenge. On the other, you don't want to be frequently banging your head against the wall as you struggle to progress. Most of the time, you have enough ammo and health on regular difficulty in Ion Fury. But there are periods where you're down to a smidge of health and you can't find any ammo for your shotgun. Scrounging the levels for secrets is almost required, and while there are a lot of them, I definitely was frustrated on occasion. I originally purchased Ion Fury a couple years ago and bounced off of it. I'm glad I gave it another shot, but I would only recommend it to boomer shooter fans, which are, after all, its main audience. If you haven't played through an old shooter like say, Dark Forces Remastered, in a while, then you may find yourself stumped by the level design and difficulty. But there is a lot to appreciate here, from the complex level design to the gorgeous dystopian aesthetic to the solid old school shooting. So check out Ion Fury if you are a boomer shooter fan only.

One other note: Shelly has constant one-liners that fucking drive me crazy. "Oh my god, the quarterback is toast!" "Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto!" "Dodge this!" You'll hear these about a million times, and I know the fun is supposed to be tongue in cheek, but man, this ain't no Bulletstorm or even Atomic "choke on this and die, you fat turd!" Heart.

A passionate love letter to the Build Engine.

The first four zones of the game are the most polished map designs in the Build Engine, bar none. It’s not only the incredible attention to detail in the environments, but the sheer scale of these, along with the hundreds upon hundreds of smartly positioned enemies that always keep you on your toes. Every gun is viable, and the ammo starve will keep you cycling through them. Gunplay is fast paced and right at home among all the '90s top dogs. Worth at full price.

Simply a really fun boom shoot that gets pretty much everything right in my opinion.

The guns feel amazing/punchy and each one is useful in its own way. I didn't expect the movement to feel this smooth, it's just really fun to jump around in this game and movement is key to survival. I like the enemies a lot, almost every enemy type is a threat and they feel very distinct from eachother. Boss wise this game isn't really it, they aren't frustrating or anything, just not so memorable.

The levels are solid design wise, the subway/sewers maps felt kinda bland, but they were well designed. Visually this game is also really good, it's really obvious the devs put a lot of effort into this department.

I played it on Ultra Viscera which is this game's hard mode and it was fairly challenging in some parts, but very fair. I did make use of quicksaves though, so if you play it without those it might take you a little longer to beat (took me ~8,5 hours).

If you like boomer shooters, just buy this. It's made in the build engine and inspired by other build engine games (blood, duke3d, shadow warrior), I can't really compare it to any of those games as I never played them, but I am sure this game is even better if you did play those games.

A love letter to Duke Nukem 3d, with a little influence from other shooters as Blood and Shadow Warrior, Ion Fury (formerly Ion Maiden) has all of the best qualities one might find in a classic fps shooter all wrapped up into one. Shelly Bombshell Harris is charming and bad ass.. i wholly recommend this game to anybody reading. I also would reccomend purchasing the expansion "After Shock" it brings back everything great about the game and then adds even more on top.

I recall this game being really hyped up. A lot of people take issue with the sequel for its flaws, but if you look back on it you can see that the first game's shared a lot of the same problems.

I am writing this after realizing I never left something when I initially beat it. So I guess I'll summarize as best as I can:

This game is good and clearly showed where 3D Realms wanted to take their next steps, and in a good way. The weapons are awesome and the fights are staged in these almost cinematic ways that remind me of some of my favorite moments from Duke 3D.

However, the last half of the game was hit or miss with me, with some of the parts being an absolute CHOREHELL SLOG. The first half is so memorable. Final battle was very interesting. I love the weapon selection, and I gotta say my favorite weapons were definitely the fire SMG's. I know I know, the revolver right click is absolutely nuts and I used it a lot for the spider heads and laborous ambushes.

Check it out. The game has a great aesthetic, but heads up it is a lot more semi-serious of a tone if you are someone looking for a super non-stop humorous approach like Duke.

That is the best I can muster from memory. It took me a pretty long time to beat this, and I believe I played on the hard (ultra viscera) difficulty.

Great game, very true to the genre and with plenty of content hours and a few jokes here and there. Weapons are well balanced so it keeps you on your toes and constantly switching. Good difficulty level too.

      HOT ALCOHOLIC RAGES THROUGH D.C.

Upon finishing the campaign and looking at the shear number of achievements I've yet to unlock, I breathe a deep sigh of anticipation of what will likely be an equally fun and frustrating ride of pain excitement much like what was my first playthrough. This game is tough, I admit I save scummed a bit, but it feels very polished. Guns look, feel, and sound fantastic. Enemies are various and interesting. Levels are sprawling and loaded with secrets.
Standing ovation for the devs to create this technical masterpiece in such an outdated engine; truly goes to show what innovation can bring!

I love the Build Engine. There's a certain charm to Duke3D and Blood, so having a brand new game built on an upgraded version of that engine is something I was bound to be very happy about. This game is fun, and I aim to return to play the AfterShock DLC at some point.
