Ion Fury is a beautifully crafted FPS pushing the build engine to it's very limits and I loved it. Blood still tops my list of favourite Build games, but Ion Fury is now a close second.

The weapons can take some getting used to, but once you do and it all clicks the game play loop is incredibly fun. All the weapons harmonise perfectly and you'll find yourself always using your whole arsenal with no weapon being left behind once you've found something better. The pistol is the finest in any FPS I have played, with it's lock-on mechanic solving the occasional issue of huge maps on the build engine as, although pretty rare, far off enemies can sometimes be hard to see.

It's a long game, even longer if you choose to look for the hard to find, sometimes insanely hidden, secrets and you probably won't want to marathon the game. However I played a few levels here and there and enjoyed all my time with it. Thoroughly looking forward to playing the DLC.

Cool aesthetic but I found it simply boring. Instead I replayed old Duke Nukem game on some emulator and it was a blast. I advise you to do the same.

Like if Duke and Shadow Warrior had a baby. This is a perfect build game. Hope we see more build games from 3drealms. I would buy another duke nukem in build. There is just something about the build engine. It has classic feel. Ken did it right.

worth it

My experiences are based on the Ultra Visceral difficulty. At first, the game was hard, but that was because I was playing this like a modern shooter. I had to re-think this as a 1990s shooter, where you constantly move, cover is non-existent, you must SAVE constantly, and emptying mags is the name of the game. Once you realize that, the game becomes a lot more manageable. Ammo is a little too scarce for my liking, and I think the shotgun looks like a grenade launcher (which it is, but still). Secret finding is my favorite thing to do, and some are quite clever. The boss fights are very hard, so expect to re-load a bunch. Level design is a masterpiece. Enemy variety is a little lacking, same with cool guns. More times than not, the bowling bombs went askew and the crossbow seemed very weak at first, until I discovered it was meant to be used with only its alt-fire, which shreds. Power ups are cool, but poorly defined. I never used the radars and thought they were worthless. The music absolutely slaps! Some of the best game music I've heard. Shelly's character is awesome and she's a lot of fun to play! While it's not a legendary 10/10 game like Duke 3D, it is a good 9.99/10 game.

This game is so so good!! I love how it reminds you of Duke Nukem. Its fun to take your time, stay behind cover and take out enemies one at a time. I cant wait to beat this and get After Shock. Cant praise it enough, very very awesome game. Please keep making DLC and sequels devs = }

You like Duke Nukem? This is the same but only with a female as leadrole. Even their defence force is similar, in Duke we had EDF and here it GDF. So yeah, this game belongs in the Duke universe! And these maps and sometimes puzzles are top!

Pure Build-engine bliss! I've played enough of Dukem Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior to know that these are my favorite types of (single-player) FPS games, and Ion Fury gave me pretty much exactly what I was hoping for and took the build-engine experience to new heights! With great level-design, a fleshed-out arsenal, tight controls, and a fun protagonist and antagonist, this is a game that I know I'll keep on playing to squeeze every bit of enjoyment I can get out of it as Voidpoint did an excellent job! The insane amount of pop-culture references didn't hurt either!

Duke Nukem, but with gurl!

Highly recommended! Fast paced and satisfying gameplay. Weapons are top notch. The retro sprites and environments are very artistic. The levels are fully of secrets and flow nicely. I hope they make a sequel and added weapon upgrades like doom remake. This is what 3d realms does best.

Great game, entertaining. Quite a lot of levels, with enough variation, nice blend of puzzles, searching and action. I didn't quite get the hang of the power-ups, but it was doable without those (I play on the lowest level, though).

Really just a blast to play. Combat is super fun, the secrets are great to hunt down and the environment has enjoyable quirks. Very solid.

This game is cringy as hell and I have never been a fan of games that have to slap you in the face with references to other things around every corner.

At the time of writing this I haven't gotten very far. Let me say the game has set a very bad first impression. The level design is both very noisy and convoluted leaving me often confused of what I am even looking at and where I am supposed to be going. There was a lot of stumbling into the correct path as the levels don't really flow in a way that makes navigating feel subconscious, and with keycards not being highlighted on the HUD it can be easy to forget that you grabbed something while you were fumbling around this mess.

Enemies also blend in with all the noise adding more to the confusion as things feel like they are just happening everywhere around me, not helped by the fact I have had guys shooting at me when they are out of line of sight. You also can't look straight down leading to awkward moments of the dudes being able to shoot you but not being able to shoot back without having to reposition, and you cant just jump down because...

This game has fall damage. Like, almost Doom 3 levels of fall damage. WHY? What in gods name would compel you to make a fast paced shooter with lots of verticality and add f**king fall damage? That alone is a sin worthy of damnation.

Also why have generators that you have to charge up with the stun baton? Feels like needless busy work when it could just be a damn switch, or you know, just not be a thing in the first place considering all it just pointlessly stop you in a room for a minute while you f**k with it so you can move on. Why charge it so I can use an elevator, why not just let me use the damn elevator?

Every step of the way this game makes me think of Duke Nukem and like Duke Nukem I can only play just a little bit before I feel what little sense of fun I have in the moment get sucked right out of me and get replaced with and overwhelming sense of boredem that I have to just detache myself from before it does irreparable damage to my sense of joy. I do not feel this way with Doom, Blood, Shadow Warrior, or other styles of Boomer shooters, just this game and Duke Nukem.

I might be able to inch my way through the game in the future but damn... I just had to let this out.

One of the best modern "boom shooters" now just with a female hero who has as many one-liners as a movie marathon of 1980's action movies. Heck a lot of her one-liners are references to 1980's films in the best way possible that left me laughing repeatedly with her timing of them.

At first I bought this game only because I was impressed by its technical achievement, and I wanted to support the developers. However, this really is a good game. If you like boomer shooters, you will like this game.

A great retro-shooter that takes inspirations from the old classics while still maintaining that modern polish. There is some replay value for the 100% gamer, as well as playing with the different difficulties and bonus missions.

BUILD ENGINE + SCIFI DYSTOPIAN FUTURE = I'LL TAKE ALL OF THIS YOU GOT

Terrific combat loop, fun story, thoughtfully designed enemies, and good voice acting with entertaining dialogue. Great music (the mall theme in particular is the best 30-second loop I've heard in a long time) and sound effects. This is the whole package, and had me hooked the whole time.

Weird movement bug dependent on the way you're facing:

For some reason in all directions but one, after you're done holding a movement key, there's a weird bit of sliding in one direction. You could look one way and the D key not be affected, and look another and have the W key be the unaffected one.

It's not anything major, just something that I thought I would point out. It's hard not to notice after a while.

I wanted to like it, but it's just so... bland. It's totally missing the creativity, interactivity and wackiness of the Build Engine holy trinity (Duke 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood).

though bombshell's other adventures are looked upon with a rather mixed reception, ion fury (or ion maiden) really is the real deal it calls itself. it's everything that duke nukem 3d and shadow warrior were and even more, with all the explosive action, deep level design, and tons of cheesy one-liners. if DUSK was a callback to QUAKE, then this game is a love-letter to the build engine.

Fast shootin, big levels, lotsa bad guys, hell yeah one liners. The guns, they go boom boom. Sometimes too hard, but I keep tryin. Feels like old games, but new. If ya like shootin and exploshuns from the golden era of shooters, play this game.

A solid mix of DN3D and Blood.

Awesome soundtrack. It was a smart idea to get a demoscener on board for a retro styled game like this. Nails the vibe hard lending a little Unreal/Deus Ex feel.

And as you can tell from it being <100MB this is the real deal. This isn't some imitation made in Unity but actual Build Engine.

I'm currently replaying the game and going to play Aftershock and Arrange mode afterwards, so I realized that I didn't recommend this game yet.
This game is absolutely mindblowing. At long last its not the holy trinity of build engine games anymore. For me personally I would rank them as follows:
1. Blood
2. Ion Fury
3. Shadow Warrior
4. Duke Nukem 3D
They are all amazing games, this is just my personal ranking.

So yes, if you have the slightest interest in (oldschool) shooters, this is a must play.
