Disney's The Lion King

If you accidentally press left bumper on your control, it quits to main menu without any warning. Whoever implemented that should never work in game design again. Thanks for wasting my time. Why are you making me pay for this crap when I could have just downloaded a ROM and had a better experience?

Owned this on a sega gensis i no longer have, The lion king will always be my number one favorite Disney movie, This game isn't exactly like the Sega version, young Simba's roar is way different, I like it better for the Sega version, I was never able to beat the game but I'm happy I can play this again thanks to Steam

My brother and I found this game as notoriously hard as children- whether this game actually is hard or we both were slowly fnding out we were not platform gamers.
My problem with this emulation is the lack of ability to use old cheat codes, as well as a lack of effort to be better. Do you have any clue how much I would have killed for a save feature? This game came out in 90s and they've had THIRTY YEARS to improve this game. Nostalgia or not. I also point this out because I still feel that the time it takes to register a control is slower than it could be. So, there's a number of unnecessary deaths based on a control not registering in time or lack of landing in just the right spot.

The things is, I still like this game. You can buy it, if you want to, but I don't think you'll be untimately happy with it.

Classic 1990s Game Resold On Steam, No More No Less

It is a Simple DosBox version of the game without any optimalisation. It is not worth the 10 euro, I am sure. It runs in a little quadrilateral in the middle of the screen. Don't buy it. :)

the game runs only on a half screen and i cant see what happend in the game ,run very slow in some points, the game is unplayable dont buy it!

Do not, I repeat, do NOT buy this game!
I played to the point Simba's Exile and when I died multiple times, the game ended itself and didn't even give me chance to use my retry. The screen where it asks "Continue?" and there's few possible retrys in there but it jumps immediately to the starting screen and doesn't give you any chance to try the stage again. Like, what the heck is that???
Also, in the middle of gaming there comes a screen where there is an old keyboard and it blocks the whole screen while playing. Very nice -_- try to clear a stage while that thing is blocking the way.
Also, you hit one wrong button and the game restarts COMPLETELY and sometimes even if you don't do anything, it will restart and eventually it will kick you out of the game.
I bought this for the good ol' nostalgia but this gave me rage more than nostalgia feelings. Immediately refund and never gonna touch this game EVER AGAIN!!!!

I got this game because I love The Lion King movies and wanted to play this game since I heard of it!! It is really fun to play and a great game!! I reccommend it, it is so much fun!!

Really disappointed. The game is visually the same, but the sounds are off slightly and some are missing completely. The FIRST little hyena boss fight is suppose to play some boss fight music but it doesn't, it just stays ambient like the entirety of level 1. I died a few levels in and pressed continue but it restarted my entire game over anyways.
I'll just play this on my Sega or emulate it.

Great animation, fun gameplay and good music.

I have played the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo versions and this version has the best graphics and music quality.

Gamplay is made worse here do to no option to use a d-pad and some stuttering performance issues in certain areas. Precise movement and jumping is often required in the more difficult sections, but with a joystick movement feels slow and loose. Areas that I can breeze through with the tight controls in the Sega Genesis version feel frustrating and overly difficult here.

Those of you familiar with the Super Nintendo version will be happy to hear that the hit-box problems that plagued that version are not present here. You can grab onto ledges, cliffs, and hippo tails with ease.

The other big problem with this version is the bottom of the screen is clipped off, meaning you cant see as much as you could in the other versions. This resulted in frustration as I would sometimes drop to my death or fall on an enemy I couldn’t see.

A few other oddities with this version: On the continue screen you have maybe 2 or 3 seconds to choose continue or you’re sent back to the main menu. Also because this game uses a DOS emulator, there were times when my game was interrupted, or I minimized it for a moment, just to find out I could not return to playing the game in full screen.

Even with these problems I was able to eventually enjoy this version of the game. After some time I learned how to move and make my jumps effectively with joystick control, I made sure I carefully looked down before dropping to a ledge, and I made sure I was quick to use a continue before my progress was lost. Also, if you’re interested you can fix the full screen issue by editing the DOS file.

If you can live with all of this, then I would recommend this game. Otherwise, pick up the Sega Genesis version if you get a chance. Like a lot of games of this era, don’t expect to beat it on your first try, its a learning process. But before you know it you’ll be completing the game with only a few deaths in a fraction of the time it takes to watch the movie.

(I played this game on Windows 10 with an Xbox One controller. A few interuptions where the game would not return to full screen. No Crashes.)

One of the best movie based games on '90s, cool graphics and faithful playable reproductions of the movie scenes. The bonus fases, the secrets, and the gameplay change when Simba grows up make it varied, funny and challenging. Cool MIDI adaptations of the score. A great game (and nostalgic to me).

The bad: bugs everywhere, imprecise collision detection, some unfair challenges with random damage.

The worst: is the DOS rom emulated with DOS-Box. Too expensive.

Whoever added this to steam has a bowling ball for a brain. And i'm not gonna trash talk the game because i loved it as a kid. But because of some brainless idiot who did'nt think to iron out all the glitches that comes with adding a rom game to pc. I can't enjoy it. When you want Simba to jump he rolls instead. When you have changed a setting in options and want to change something else, You cant because your stuck pushing every key/button trying to switch settings.

Do i recommend this game ? Yes ! Because i played it for hours in the 1990's. Do i support the brainless idiot who added this game on Steam ? Fuck No !! Wish i could stick my hand through his pc screen so i can bash his head in !

TL:DR - A game that was great in 1994 and I spent many hours playing, but with a DOSbox launcher, no remaster in any way and no steam integration, it's nostaglia that's going to have you handing over your cash.

Despite some of the other negative reviews, I wanted to give it a shot. Unfortunately, it's the exact same original DOS port from 1994 instead a modern port of the console version, which means it runs terribly. That would be like if Capcom released Mega Man X on Steam and it turned out to be the DOS version from 1994 instead of a port of the SNES version. There is tearing when you are scrolling across the screen horizontally and a decent amount of input lag. The sound and graphics are fine but due to the low frame rate and poor speed of the game, it controls horribly and just isn't enjoyable.

I have a lot of love for The Lion King game from my childhood, so when I saw it available on Steam, I was excited to revisit this classic. Unfortunately, this version of the game is a huge disappointment. It's clear that this is just a DOSBox emulator, and it's not optimized for modern systems. The game is buggy, and there are a lot of issues with the sound and graphics.

A short game as far as game standards go these days (1-3hrs tops depending on difficulty), I bought it really for old times sake and nostalgia of my childhood. Still the exact same game, still the same jagged controls. Bonus though, the old skip level password still works for those of us in the know ^_^ I used to need it to get past the the geysers (no not because i had no skill but cos the new modern PCs were too fast to run it and therefor the water rose too quick) which i hated cos i like playing the whole level not half of it. Glad this was fixed and I was able to enjoy the full game.

Still all things considered, although precious to me, I think $9.99 is a bit steap a price considering there has been no optimization or improvements made to the game. Second time owned, once in 1995 for a birthday present and now in 2017... damn i think i ever still remember some of the security passwords to start the game on PC... cheetahs... difficulty... lol... memory isnt that rusty after all XD It is running through DosBox. If you want it, buy it on sale maybe, and enjoy this classic from 1994.

Real pity they can't have steam achievements for this game, would have added an extra spark to it. At least grace us with some steam cards and badges, pretty please? :3

10 € Shameful hidden emulator with zero optimization for PC. No resolution / setting options.... poorly runs on NASA pc.

Thank you Disney for bringing back good memories of my childhood. It's definetly a good buy. You should know the graphics aren't that good because it's a game from 1994!

I paid £5 to run the Lion King DOS rom on DOSBox and the jump button doesn't work, the audio is stuttery for a second or two when it starts up. This isn't a port, or a remaster. It's a scammy piece of crap.

Oh, and you can't change resolution because this is emulated.
