Worth it just for the perfect soundtrack this game is also the first to have used in game (ADS iron sights)
Outlaws is a fun, pretty overlooked early FPS that features a lot of innovations for its time. It was the first game to have an in-screen sniper scope (as opposed to just zooming the whole screen in). The whole game is voice acted too, and the constant barks and taunts from the enemies really help guide you around the maze-like levels. There are also headshots to some degree- very satisfying to burst into a room and gun down a group of outlaws.
For your own sanity, play it on "good", because the game uses the migraine-inducing Dark Forces engine and back in 1997 they hadn't really worked out how to model "shooting someone below you". I swear, shooting a guy lower down works about half the time. Some levels also require consulting a guide for modern players- remember, back in the 20th century, a slightly different texture on a wall meant that this was something that can be interacted with! - but nothing too egregious.
Health and ammo pickups are plentiful at "Good" difficulty, which doesn't make it a chore to play.
Overall, a fun romp, with a fantastic Spaghetti Western score. I occasionally found myself just standing in the level and enjoying the atmosphere.
The game is also still running fine almost 30 years later. You'll find it constantly resizing the window and tabbing to desktop to play the cutscenes, but it's ok, just let it do its thing. Also, the intro 3dfx logo graphics are a video, skippable with ESC and pausable with space.
Oh, and remember to save. There's no autosave.
Blast from the past!
crashes a lot & cant change resolution
Sometimes you don't need realistic graphics to enjoy a fun game.
It may be an old game from the 90's but for me has brought back good memories.
The worst level design I have ever come across. I feel like kids making Garrys mod levels could pull something better off.
I've played this game since I was a kid in the 90s and it will always be one of my top favorites.
Great Game! Would Recommend to any classic fps fan or western fan.
good ole boomer shooter. probably due for a sequel.
What a great game. A prime example how a good idea and production values can elevate an barely mediocre game. If you like westerns, just play it. It's like regularly 2 euros on discount with 9 missions that are maybe 30 min long each. Install emulator DREAMM (it wont count your steam ingame hours tho) and play it on the hardest difficulty for optimal experience.
Fantastic art, fantastic voice acting and fantastic shooting.
Must-play FPS.
An often overlooked classic shooter from the golden era of Lucasarts.
Epic game from back when games was epic.... great story a good sunday game with a cup of coffee on the side..
WHERE ARE YOU MARSHALL?!
Where Are you MAAARSHALLL???
Excellent game. I purchased the original in 1999. As you play in easy, normal, and hard you go further in the game. play normal and each section is longer and with new challenges than in easy. In hard again more content is revealed. Then there are a lot of mods made for the game which have more new content. It is better than half the games put out today.
One of the best LucasArts FPS Games regarding style and story.
It's one of those games that reminds me a bit of a fewer modern games like Call of Juarez.
You should definitely play it, the downside of this game comes to tweaking the resolution (which half of the time changes to a lower one) and performance issues.
A great boomer shooter that captures the essence of classic old wild west cinema in both story and atmosphere. At times frustratingly obtuse in showing the path forward but nothing some patience or a few glimpses at a guide can't help.
Spaghetti Western complete with over complex story. Terrific fun.
great Game, i always loved the Art and Music!
