Six adventurers are sent on a quest to restore the balance of magic, that has been corrupted by an unknown source. Lead your party of brave men and women through mythical lands to solve the mystery.
The ever changing threats in the game force you, to re-evaluate your tactics to ensure the survival of your party, the further you progress into the game. The system gives you the freedom to choose any approach that might work and there is no single solution to one specific problem.
At the heart of the game lies the combat; melee, ranged or magic centric, the choice is yours to make. Be wary though, as the same tactic will not work for all the enemies.
While the base mechanics of the game are easy to pick up, the depth of the magic, crafting and combat systems will challenge even seasoned veterans of the genre. It's clearly a case of "Easy to learn, hard to master".
Equilibrium Of Divinity's core features:
- Tactical combat: The action happens one turn at a time. Decide at the beginning of each turn, what everybody is going to do. Envisoning possible issues during the progression of the turn is the key to victory.
- Character progression: There are no class restrictions. Plan the development of each party member from the beginning. Do you want specialists or generalists? The choice is yours.
- Crafting system: Do you want to rely on random gear dropping or would you rather create specific gear, that will help you in your quest? Choose wisely.
- Manage resources: Your party will eventually become hungry and thirsty. The survival of your adventurers will also depend on your ability to properly ration the supplies you have.
- Modding: The game will launch with limited modding capabilities. We're looking to extend that further on.

THIS GAME DIDNT FINISHED
OBVIOUSLY
DEADLY MECHANISM PROBLEM and BUG
There's just something overwhelmingly offputting about the game's design. I can't place it. I couldn't get more than a minute into playing the actual game before uninstalling, it felt that bad. Is that unfair to the game? Sure. But nobody paid me to play it, and nobody's paying me to review it, so why put myself through something I don't want to do?
Maybe you'll enjoy it. Other people certainly did.
Two things to note.
I had an issue with my pc not having the proper support for shaders for this game (Using a not old Nvidia card so this is an oddball issue imho). As a result the dev recommended I refund the game or get a better graphics card. The entire game depends on this specific type of shader tech that Nvidia and some laptop igcs can't handle. That was their explanation and it seems probable based on the errors I saw. So while I recommend the game I also recommend you carefully check your stats before buying.
The other thing to note is that because of the above issue I got about an hour into the game before running into said problems so I didn't get a full grasp of it. I liked what I saw. Reminded me a lot of older top down rpgs with some survival/roguelike elements thrown in. (I would not call this a roguelike from what Ive seen. I admit I am a bit of a purist with what I do consider to be roguelike since it is easy to lose context if you spread the label around too loosely.
Combat is turn based, like some old top down rpgs (Ultima if I recall correctly among others) and many fps fantasy games (Eye of the Beholder, Wizardry, etc) the combat considers front rank, back rank and reach for both sides. You start out barebones, almost naked with a few options for starting items before being thrust into the story.
The game play revolves around fighting monsters, getting materials to craft with, making your equipment (if you don't find it) and slowly progressing through a map. At the end of the map you apparently get a clear screen (like some very very old games.) Spells are similar to Wizardry series in how they work except for the combat targetting which seems to be somewhat unique.
Overall I wish my computer was not somehow wrong for this game. (Its only 3ish years old and was top of the midrange machine options back then.)
TLDR; buy but check your machine's stats first. Devs are cool and deserve support.
Classless, Party, Roguelike - Lets get that out of the way. This is a true, real, honest, Roguelike with semi-real time movement. This means monsters walk around on patrols and its possible to slip past, grab loot, and get back to a hiding spot. It's also possible to engage, and retreat at low levels. This game is all about risk mitigation, customization, and options.
Like all true Roguelikes that means the RNG may love or hate you, depending, and your Goal is advancement. There is a very loose story, but it doesn't matter. There may be shops, I haven't dug that far into it yet, but there certainly is material crafting. Likewise you begin with little or nothing at the start, so that means party unity, good tactics, and thinking through a situation is very important.
Ranged Projectile Weapons (bows and arrows) require quivers to use, which makes a kind of sense given that no one can carry a dozen arrows in their backpack, draw, and fire efficiently. Spells are powerful options and hybrid characters do better than you might think.
Likewise the system uses a two row system for character placement with the back row being able to hit the front row only if the range of a weapon is long enough, and the front row being able to hit the back row only if the range is long enough.
The Graphics: Simple, overly simple in fact, this will be the biggest turnoff for people.
The Controls: Sound, solid, functional. A little more on the hot keys would be nice, but all in all you will pick this up quick.
The Customization: In terms of abilities, VAST, in terms of appearance, you can drop some portrait files in a folder and such so you can expand like that, an import from file resize function would be nice but I don't know how hard that would be for the devs to put in.
The Combat: Strategic, you have to gauge how much of your forces you want to commit to a single attack on a single enemy. Go through the tutorial, pay CLOSE ATTENTION to both combat order and enemy number and you will be fine. Because of this you have to decide on each round, is it worth wiping out one enemy for sure to reduce incoming damage? Should I split damage among many? Is it time to buff up the party? Should we do some healing? Maybe its time to go into full defense, let the back row fire off a volley, and then switch out for some healing! The options are fairly limitless in this respect. The combat is the meat and potatoes of this, and watching people play it on youtube DOES NOT DO IT JUSTICE. This is more than "repeat the same order over and over again" and strategy will take you from one fight to the next far better off than flailing.
So who is this game for?
If you like dungeon crawlers, turn based strategy, massive character customizations, classeless character building, the ability to use the premade classes, and deep tactical combat in a roguelike environment. Then this is the game for you. If you are looking for a survival game, a crafting game, or an open world simulator this probably doesn't fit the bill. If you enjoyed ADOM, TOME, or other such games but want to hop into the action straight away, this may be a great fit. It does lack in comparison in terms of complexity of world interaction but makes up for it with complexity of character creation, development, and advancement.
If you want something that is fast paced, high impact, adrenaline pumping action then you are looking for a Roguelite not a Roguelike. This is a traditional Roguelike and well worth the time.
Wanted to clarify there are survival elements, hunger, thirst, and crafting is a primary way of advancing armor and weapons for a party as you find scattered resources. What I mean is that this isn't a "build a home and survive simulator" this is a roguelike. You use crafting to keep your gear up to par, to balance out the RNG, and to give you an edge for big fights. Crafting of items isn't "500 different types of swords, hammers, and axes" but more limited to standard gear and advanced versions of that gear. It's functional in that respect, what you would expect of a good roguelike, but not necessarily a survival simulator. The survival elements play more into things as you advance and have to decide between using food for hunger and benefits, and potions.
Got this while it was on sale, had I known it was as good as it was would have got it earlier.
How wildly careless of a developer do you have to be to have both buggy character creation as well as a buggy tutorial? I can only assume the rest of the game is made with the same level of detail.
This is a nice straightfoward party based Roguelike RPG. Would love to see Achivements and Cards added one day, but that isn't a big enough deal to keep anyone away from this nice game. If you like Roguelikes and like Party based RPG then this game is a great deal even at full price.
Well I like it so far. To me its like a Tales of Ma'Jahael with a group and crafting and tactical combat rather than just bumping your sprite into the enemy sprite. Don't get me wrong, ToME is a great game with plenty of depth, but..I HATE the sprite thing. Is this game fancy or flashy? Not at all, but the basic tactical combat makes it feel more like a pen and paper rpg than the aforementioned game.
Will edit review with more in-game time
Learned how to edit my own portraits and avatars, which is easily doable with gimp skills.
Still love game. It aint gonna be good for eye candy junkies, but if you like the feel of pen and paper rpgs on comp. you will like this after you learn it.
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!
And I will add this. Those reviewers who talk about "buggy character creation" or bugs in the game just dont understand it. So I will explain it since it is not clearly defined in the game. There are 5 areas of creation. Stats, weapons, professions, skills
Detailed review to follow.
This game is slow and the UI is terrible.
There are dozens of other roguelikes and tactical RPGs that you should consider before this game.
How in the heck do you use a bow in this game? I have both a bow and some arrows, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get them to work together.
Pretty good for 10 euro product. After 7 hours and starting the game on hard difficulty I am a little bit bored, feeling like I can't find a challange. If you are going to purchase this I would recommend starting on the hardest difficulty with rest disabled.
I must say this game kinda snuck under my skin as I slowly realized it had more to it than I thought at first. You party is build as you want, 6 in a group and no classes. now it gets even better.
You are lost in a maze of connecting portals to different maps, (lands) and with each layer or portal you enter thru, you will get points to add to your characters build.
As in;
Weapons - mace, dagger, etc.
Professions - alchemy, tailor, 8 types.
Skills - lockpicking, linguistic, perception, 3more.
Magic - holy, chaos, fire, plus 5 more.
And finally the best one -Super- does nothing but gives additional points, which can be distributed in the above four categories as you so chose. You want a bad ass fire mage who swings a good staff, or sword, you can do it. A barbarian who loves to cook, go ahead.
Also you have personal stats to add points to when passing each layer, as in strength, accuracy, wisdom, intelligence, vitality, talent, speed, and fortune. (Also by putting points into wisdom you get more magic points and other conversions which will eventually give more super points. Which down the road is Hugh mungus.
This all gives a personal touch to your builds, and good fun in trying to put a perfect party together.
As far as a story, other than being told to enter a portal, and more pestering from the same person who says they are working at the orders of the KIng, there is little story, but found messages add some anticipation of what the hell is going on and eventual discovery.
Its the draw of making it deeper and deeper thru, just surviving, that makes the game grab and hold me. you can find a portal sometimes very quickly on a new map, and just go on to the next one, but the loot, materials, knowledge, and experience which may be very needed, will be lost. Dont rush, but also remember that the next fight you have may be your last.
If one of your party survives a fight, and you find a reincarnation well, you'll be o.k. and hopefully you have some stamina, food and magic to go on.
You can play hardcore, which is the way the game is meant. Or change gameplay by removing/adding rest, or make more Softcore by adding access to reloading last save,(Start of the map).
Leaderboard is done by points added from score of each layer, for final tally.
I found a well once, where you could throw whatever you want into it for additional points, lol, strip down boys and girls. the loincloth is getting tossed, we have a good armorer, just dont throw all the mats down.
Great game, the graphics meh but np, map is a nice size and you can scroll view easily and see entire map, movement is easy by Kb, but mouse works everywhere except into unknown square, as when entering an unknown room, you will have to step in with kb. No real animation, is beta, so not sure of things in future. In fight members are in set spots, but can be moved forward or to the back of party. its a great party based tatical dungeon crawler right now.
added bother, if mob dies and you already put orders, why are they not smart enough to pick another target, thats about it, I understand the loot and backpack need and wells of sacrifice, but could we somewhat break down armor and weopons, for even more choices in the game?
love your game btw
