interesting setting. old school RPG. Beign a fan of fallout, I did enjoy this. However, do play it with quality of life mods because these mods will reduce the annoyance that can be presented by some of this game's odd choices (ex, no fast travel, but walk)

Summary: One of the best computer (c)rpg on the planet; a lot like the original fallout, but with a Soviet-based setting. A refreshing take on the apocalypse set genre, ATOM RPG brings the best-turn based mechanics of the era and unfolds an intriguing wasteland story. Characters are likable, puzzles are good, and the fights are intense; I will recommend this to any turn-based tactics and role-playing fanatic. Looking forward to the sequel, Trudograd.

- Has the fallout turn-based fighting vibes but with better graphics
- A countable weapon list consisting of badass guns and knives
- Straightforward story. Draws you in.
- Contains deep mysteries from the wasteland, some involving strange riddles
- Interesting buddy characters, but they die easily
- Allows variable tactics introducing dynamic fights
- Interesting achievements

- A bit bland on some maps - feels more empty than the wasteland itself
- Certain perks are not very useful

[*] Shovels are a rarity - keep it somewhere, e.g. Red Fighter based in a safe spot, lest you need it later in the game.

I dont know what to say about this game. I didnt get very far and I think that had to do with the pace of the game. Killing rats was just boring and everything was locked so it was just slow. I then became radiated which caused me to become encumbered which caused me to move and attack...slower. Just kind of boring.
If you love classic fallout, this game is for you.
This is a welcome throwback to old school fallout. The game is a bit clunky and far from perfect, yet the true meat of the game is wonderful. I enjoyed the choices offered and the constant questioning of if I’m actually doing the right thing or am about to set off things in motion I have yet to uncover.
I have much more to explore after the 40 hour play though I just finished (by accident) This will definitely be a game I come back to for a few playthroughs at least. One including some mods that look good too!
Fun game - I don't usually leave reviews, but this definitely deserves your time. Hard at times, and rewarding once you break through. My only gripe is the ending is kind of sudden, but it's certainly thought provoking
By all means great rpg, the main story is maybe a little bit too silly in regard how rough and cruel is surrounding world, but on other hand it makes it perfect soviet style counterpart to Fallout 1. The dialogues are unique, thorough exploration pays off, the start is rough, combat and UI could be better but in overall a very enjoyable game.
And someday you'll have to return to your homeland! How will it be for you inside? Fucking traitors!

The game in general isn't bad, but some parts unfortunately are. I'm a huge fan of original fallout games and still ATOM is a mixed bag. Still it is very cheap, so perhaps you should try.
As you can see from my account, i play a lot of crpg games and i can honestly say this is by far the very best of them all. No hand holding, min max is important and the game is raw, Man i wish i was Russian

the looks, the sounds, it captures some of that oldschool Fallout 1+2 feeling.
my core issue lies with the systems running behind the scene.
hard to describe to people who are not delving deeper into this game, but for the rest:
it's very "narrow"
skillchecks from the getgo are so absurdly high, that all but very specialized characters don't even need to bother
which goes to say that mixed approaches will net you not a little, but honestly nothing; heck even talking to some realy early quest farmboy needs some absurdly high stat (most of these checks don't block you from anything major).
the same extends to combat, to attributes and everything else.
thanks to this it feels a lot less sandboxy than it could be; and is one of the most constricted gameplays i've played for quite some time in a game similiar to Fallout 1+2 or the early Wastelands.
the rest is okay. it looks nice enough, i also got no issue with the writing (i mean the cultural backround of the team clearly shines through, but not everything got to have a western backround).
but even the early PIP-itteration was more sandboxy, more "fun".
if you plan on buying or playing the game (i mean for the price it is a steal), plan a very dedicated build (like 1 weapon class, 1 to 2 skills max), and always maxout Dex (more action points...nough said); the same goes for the skill tree: you basicaly need to take "think like your enemy" (or whatever it's name is) which already blocks a lot of points.
which is all a long way of saying: mechanicaly it is just not a very good crpg for 2018 and it all boils down to a pretty bad attribute- and skill-system aswell as a pointless skill-tree and wonky progression.
yes: you could easily "break" F1 and 2, but that was part of the fun of it...aka SANDBOX.
Atom is definitly not a sandbox, but an onrail Fallout-clone...which is okay (again: keep the price in mind).
but steam doesn't allow "mixed" options so i'd much rather recommend Fallout 1 and 2 (or 3/New Vegas), Wasteland 3 or similiar games...mainly because of the very "bad" character-systems.

The game was made by Russian developers in the style of the first two parts of the famous Fallout game. Starting the game, you immediately plunge into post-apocalyptic Russia. The atmosphere and immersion in the game are at a high level. The game has a lot of dialogues and characters to talk to, a sufficient number of items and weapons.
There is a simple crafting system, but you need to learn crafting recipes from people you meet all the way through your game.
The action is made in the old step-by-step style and this is not a disadvantage, but even the opposite.
The graphics in the game are simple, but do not forget that the game is under development and a lot can still be finished.
In general, everything is done well and with taste. It's worth playing.
An OK CRPG if you like the classic Fallout games.
Atom RPG feels like a spiritual successor to the first two "Fallout" games. There is a lot of reading in it, but much of that writing is interesting and well-done. Sometimes, especially early on, the combat can feel unfair, but once one gains their bearings and learns the mechanics, it's a fun, challenging RPG. It could use some QoL features, particularly the ability to add notes to maps and indicating locations of quest NPC's on said maps, but for the price, I recommend this game to anyone who liked "Fallout 1 and 2" or just enjoys turn-based RPG's in general.
If you love old school Fallout 2 game, you're gonna love ATOM RPG!
I have barely scratched the surface but it scratches that classic fallout itch and makes several improvements while doing, Bethesda should take some notes.
One of the best CRPG's ever made. Take's what Fallout laid down and improved upon in essentially all ways (besides stealth). Rich characters, compelling stories, fun combat, cool items, weapons, armors, crafting, meaningful players choices, well-written dialogue. It's Fallout NV, Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and all other fun CRPGs Russian child and it works out great. It's so beautiful.
Forgot to recommend this game. I’m a loser so I played by a character start guide (as I did with F1/2) and had a great time. I like the story and really enjoy all the npcs. Really enjoy the companions for the most part. Definitely should do another playthrough but solid game if you like post-SU or the original Fallouts.
I really wanted to like this game. It had potential to be great. Acceptable graphics, sound, character skills, inventory but it just could not interest me enough.
The main reason are the repetitive, boring dialogues with NPC:s. The lines and interactions are so boring with most of the NPC:s never saying anyting interesting. You just run around and talk to everyone you meet and occasionally get a mission or two but I haven´t experienced a game that have failed so miserably in the dialogues. All the NPC:s are utterly uninteresting as characters.
Exploring so far is acceptable but you seldom find anything really interesting. In the beginning you just have to survive and get enough food and money.
The other parts of the game like combat is ok but this game is totally inferior to Wasteland 2 and 3.
I bought this game with 50% discount (inclusive the followup) because of reviews it had got but I regret that now.
Very good game. Id recommend play through it once on your own than do guided run!

Seems like they tried to stuff a simplified Dungeons & Dragons mechanic into the survival genre. Well, this combination did not work out for me.
I dislike this game.
I really wanted to like this game after watching Warlockracy's playthrough but Atom RPG hasn't been a pleasant experience, especially after playing 3 back-to-back games of Fallout 2 and two for Fallout Sonora. There is a lot that reminds me of Fallout which is appreciated but there are crucial differences that need to be mentioned. With the original fallouts, skill checks became more difficult following the radius from the starting location. So going from Arroyo to Klemanth, the Den, and Modoc would have skill checks that would be entirely doable with tagged skills. Going out from there, it would get progressively harder mainly to show your character progression as you get better. Atom RPG starts out with some really high skill checks right from the start. To some degree I can understand this as some perks can really boost your initial skills, but it is a departure. Additionally, there are moments where you will pass a check and still get a fail result, which makes one wonder why a check would be there anyways. These moments feel like a DM is very annoyed with you making decisions and undercutting your good rolls and skill checks in DnD. Additionally, having no real distinction between important NPCs that can give quests and those who are just background people makes for a lot of tedious cycling through dialogue. Additionally with combat, Fallout always had an item progression that was more important than level. Having better guns, armor, etc, really determined a lot of fights. Atom RPG has a combination of level and equipment, meaning that a high level peasant with no armor can be more lethal than a standard bandit with full armor. This could be to keep you from snowballing into a powerhouse like you could in Fallout 2 if you got lucky during a random encounter (I did have a random encounter in Fallout 2 where a caravan guard with a minigun friendly fired 3 other caravan guards with miniguns, and I left that encounter with a lot of loot and firepower). Conveniently all important NPCs are those high levels so you can't really go around killing like you can in Fallout 1, 2, Sonora, etc. Not to say it was always easy to just murder your way through problems in the original Fallouts, encounters were designed to either give important NPCs numerical superiority with good equipment at that stage of the game (Metzger in the Den for example), companions could become unavailable with bad karma, bounty hunters will find you, etc. Atom RPG focuses more on making important NPCs absolutely stacked level wise, punish successful skill checks, and more or less railroads you into a particular style of play. Again, the vibe is that this is DnD and the DM is constantly disapproving of your behavior. I will do my best to finish it because I am on a CRPG binge. So far though, I would recommend Age of Decadence, Colony Ship, Underrail, any of the original fallouts, the total conversions for Fallout like Sonora or Nevada, Wasteland 2 and 3 over this. It is Fallout on rails but maybe it opens up in the late game.
Fallout 2 But Russian
What I consider to be immersion breaking level bad gaming plot device ruined it for me at the beginning.
This is the first crpg i've played that truly felt like OG Fallout. Incredibly good.
I was sent by the Great Warlock of the East, and it was worth every minute of it.

ATOM and Trudograd are great throwbacks to the OG isometric Fallout RPGs. The developers were clearly influenced and the these are totally worth your time if you're into that stuff. I cannot reccomend them highly enough. It's alternate Eastern bloc Fallout 2.
ATOM RPG is more of a visual novel than a game. It's the type of game where you should talk to every NPC because they all have much to say about the current state of affairs.
The combat is bad.
The itemization is also bad.
The crafting is abysmal.
However, the story is good. So, if you're more interested in a good story with game elements than playing an action game, this is decent.
If you enjoy old school fallouts and want a modern take this is the game for you. Even if you dont like Fallout its a solid RPG!
This is a fantastic Indy modernised version of the early fallout games.
It plays really well with enough fun characters and situations to interact with feel like a fallout title.
The twist is it's set in post apocalyptic USSR.
The combat reminds me of turn based combat sims like X-com.
It's ridiculously cheap to buy and one of the best value games I've bought in a while.
Huge props to the team.
IF you like old isometric turn based Fallout, you will fell at home here. The game is far from being perfect but its fun and the slavic touch all over the place makes it good.
This game is 1:1 a straight rip (although Russian themed) of Fallout 1 & 2. Seriously, the mechanics, some quests, design is all Fallout with a twist. No.
I love and am a big fan of Fallout, being inspired by another series is fine but doing 1:1 with said series? No, no. No.

Maybe reels has blown out my dopamine receptors but I found this game really boring. I spent most of my time with the game talking with npcs rather then fight or scavenging etc
Coming from someone who really enjoys stalker, fallout, metro etc, I can only recommend this game if you know you like turn based rpgs
I wanted to hate this game. Everything is a little clunky and takes a little longer than it should, it's full of stuff that when translated into English from Russian doesn't make a ton of sense, and it is not shy about putting you into no-win situations.
But I just can't help but love this game. Winning certain fights feels incredibly rewarding, the characters are so wacky and unique, and above all, it's too loyal to Fallout where almost every "Fallout-like" has not been. Very early in the game I ran into a caravaner with an M16, some armor, a sabre and a ton of expensive gear, including timed explosives. I sold him all my stuff to buy the timed explosives, blew him and his guards up even though I was way too weak to fight them fair, and caught the windfall of a lifetime. I spent the rest of the game ducking head headhunters, but too few games let you tell your own story using the game world anymore, and ATOM RPG is one of them.

If you enjoyed Fallout 2, you'll enjoy this
Plenty of morally grey choices, choices matter, come prepared and be smart or you're gonna get stuck and beaten down but when you overcome and succeed due to being clever, you feel smug.
Fallout 1 but it's Soviet Union
TL;DR: For people who want to play original Fallout-style games
Closest in spirit to the original Fallout 1/2 that I've seen to date. Closer than UnderRail, or even Wasteland. The progression feels very natural—you start in one town, get a mission in the next, but when you reach it, you discover missions in two other towns. You also need to go back to the first town for rewards, etc. This makes the map’s growth feel very organic and well-paced.
NPCs and Side Quests: The towns are packed with NPCs, each with a backstory, and many of them offer side quests. Very Fallout-esque, which is great for anyone who loves the deep NPC interactions and lore of the classic Fallout games.
Some minor improvements I would suggest:
Item List: You can’t filter, only sort. This is something they could have learned from games like UnderRail.
World/Graphics: The world feels a bit bland compared to Fallout. Where Fallout had Radscorpions, Gekkos, and two-headed Brahmin, here you have regular rats, wolves, and cows. Where in Fallout, you had humans, ghouls, and super mutants. In ATOM you have humans, humans... and mutants? (who are basically also human)
Combat Knock-Downs: The knock-down mechanic is very overpowered. One knock-down from a monster can cost you your life. And multiple monsters can easily crit you to the ground, even if you already have strong armor and they wouldn't be able to hurt you standing up.
World Map Travel: Moving on the world map is painfully slow. You can have more encounters and speed up the in-game time, but please, don’t waste my real-life time. (I ended up using cheats for this because it was unbearably slow)
Weapons and Crafting:
Weapons Progression: In Fallout, damage started at 5-7 and ended at 100+. Here, it starts the same but barely reaches 15-25 damage even in the very late game.
Crafting: Weapons crafting is fun and challenging, but finding the resources and recipes is tough. By the time you can craft something decent, you've probably already found better weapons. I wish the crafted items were worth the effort.
Overall:
Despite the minor drawbacks mentioned above, this is a really fun and engaging game with an original story.
That does an excellent job of keeping the Fallout tradition alive.
No normal cover mechanics or crouch but pretty good for the price so far.
Shot a bunch of commies dead, good game!
