works great even on Bazzite (just need to turn off comfort options and it's smooth)

Short and straightforward. A few zones are quite odd and much harder than the rest of the game. To beat it, you really need to focus on movement and properly utilize double wielding.
crisp visuals, performance is a solid 90 fps even on my mid range pc, and the guns are really fun to use in vr. probably the best $2 ive spent on steam
Really really fun shooter!!! I hope this game and other Croteam VR games come to the Meta Quest Store.
This gets a thumbs down for the lack of GOG availability and making me 100% bound to the Steam platform to install this game.
Boomer Shooters are possibly one of the best implementations of VR available. Who could have guessed that? Blast aliens with your friends in VR as the most serious of Sams. Experience your own form of gun-kata as you dual wield everything from pistols to rocket launchers. 8/10
One complaint: No arm IK. You can't see what your friends' arms are doing. Actually, for that matter, rotation is straight up broken and friends will often just fly around not aiming at anything in particular from my POV so that's a bummer, but the game plays really well so it's nothing but a visual nitpick.
Batshit crazy, perfect.
Oh, you're a big'un ain't ya?
It's time to get Seriously Serious, in VR!
Serious Sam VR: The First Encounter, developed by Croteam, is a VR port of the HD edition of Serious Sam: The First Encounter, taking the SERIOUS gameplay we all know and putting into Virtual Reality. Likewise this review will only be covering the aspects introduced with this VR port as other than a few minor differences this game is almost 1:1 to the original game in terms of the structures of fights.
Gameplay of SSVR:TFE first needs some notes. It's highly recommend that you set your movement to locomotion instead of teleport as it's a method of movement I think works the best with this kind of game. Likewise if you have motion sickness when using these kind of controls, I can only recommend using the sitting down mode or just passing as I cannot reasonably see how one can juggle both aiming at enemies and movement at the same time. As with the extra hand given to you with VR, Sam can now dual-wield! Much like in Serious Sam 2 Patched and Serious Sam 4/Siberian Mayhem, you can now duel-wield any weapon to have either twice the power or use weapon combos. More so, weapons like the Shotguns or the Colts that have a fake "reloading" animation are completely bypassed so you can shoot as fast as you can as long as you have ammo. You also have the Chainsaw from Second Encounter instead of the Knife. Now with the enemies, all the enemies from TFE are present and relatively unchanged. Therefore I'd like to point out the most annoying ones from this new perspective..... Surprisingly Kleer aren't one of them. It's amazing what 2 Coach Guns can do.
First enemy to note is the Arachnoids, both varieties. As you may expect this is simply because they hitscan and as movement is slightly less... reactionary? Since you're viewing game from your POV instead of on a flat monitor, they might be a nuisance outside the normal issue of them using hitscan. Thankfully for me personally they weren't to big of a issue.
Next is the Werebull as like Kleer, they run towards you, but unlike Kleer they take way more than one Coach Gun shot to take down. It's a absolute nightmare if you've got multiple Bulls looping around after missing you from multiple directions, again stemming from the whole unique Pov notion. Best advice? If you don't have a Cannon, save Shells for them. No reloading on the Shotguns is a lifesaver here.
Lastly to note is the Reptiloids as you know, they have a homing projectile. Thankfully fighting one on one isn't that hard as you could always have your secondary hand shooting the projectile with the Colts and the Reptiloid itself with something else. But fighting a mixed batch of enemies, which happens often, or multiple Repiloids at once causes this to be less effective as you're busy dodging the other enemies while the projectile is erratically swooping around to your location. They weren't to bad to deal with since you can duel-wield rocket launchers, laser guns, or miniguns to get rid of them fast but simply they have a elevated priority.
One last thing to mention is the slight alternation to the level design. Most gimmick rooms in TFE are either disabled or neutered in one way or the other, mainly related to the arena itself and not the enemy count. The only other change I noted is the final boss arena vs Ugh-Zan being slightly changed to be easier for VR players. Otherwise it's a really faithful version of Serious Sam 1 to play in VR.... at least the HD version as there's differences between even those two.
Overall Serious Sam VR: The First Encounter is probably THE most unique way to replay Serious Sam 1, as I simply cannot recommend this as your first exposure to TFE. Knowing what's coming up or just being familiar with the game I believe is a must have to enjoy this game as I feel like the little things they change to the formula for the VR port is enough to make it worth a playthrough. But that's not it folks, Croteam also managed to make VR ports of the other Serious Engine 3 games so stay tuned for that!
