Im greatly enjoy SoulCalibur III, all of the gameplay nothing is boring. The thing I enjoy in this game is just the additional cool features of the combat and Geralt of Rivia!!
I am total noob in this game. But the reason I downvoted this is a different one.
When the loading screen appeared, I was somehow surprised how "lame" it looks like.
I played Soulcalibur IV on XBox and I remember this game to be way more intuitive and good looking.
I also was disappointed by the story telling. It is just a bad drawn comic with some text.
No cutscenes or something. It really looked old. I though I would play a game from 1984 or something.
But all this was not even that bad. It just gave me a first negative expression.
So I tried strory mode and versus mode. The character selection disappointed me.
You select the character from this "matrix" with 2D images on it. But then it takes like ages to load the actual 3D model for the selected character. And somehow ... the faces of the 3D models looked cringe.
In comparison: Dead or Alive feels way more natural (but there I also hated the latest one with these annoying conversions).
So after some disappointment I tried to use "Training". This also was kind of a bad experience for me (as a noob/newcomer to this genre). I expected the combos to be shown at the bottom of the screen to practice them. Like in Dead or Alive or in other games. But this was not the case. I had to look up the combos in a list with small text which was really hard to read on the TV. The controls were all described for usage on a PC with keyboard. But I used a controller on SteamDeck so I never really figured out which button it was. Example: I pressed A on the XBox One controller ... but on screen it showed me "K" or some of the keyboard keys. Why? Wasn't that game originally made for consoles?
And there was also a section describing how to use the characters ... oh boy ... it is a huge text without any linebreaks. White font on brown background with lime green icons inbetween. This really gave me eye cancer. So I just uninstalled the game. I maybe will watch some videos on YT on how to play/use it. But I remember Soulcalibur V way better on console. The fights started fast and you could replay fast. The loading screens were barely there. But in the new one ... you are always disrupted with lagging moments. 3... 2... 1... ... ... fight ... sometimes it felt like the counting was longer than the fight.
To be fair, I think some issues might come from SteamDeck (like the keyboard keys showing instead controller buttons). But the usability is just not good. I guess I will wait for some other fighting game.
No. Not worth it. Most stuff isn't even voiced so a lot of reading for a game you are probably paying at least 60 dollars for.
As a player of the previous games I was surprised to find that even after grinding and practicing I couldn't progress the main story to unlock new characters.
If you like Mortal Combat you might enjoy this but I do not. To be fair I didn't like Mortal Combat much either for similar reasons.
As someone with over 100 hours on this game, and had made countless custom characters, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. There is a bug that can happen to you seemingly out of nowhere where your save data will be corrupted, causing you to lose all your game progress, stats, and custom characters. I have lost all of those hours of my life. Hopefully this will keep you from losing hours of your life as well.
I would recommend. It's definitely a fun game and certainly different from other fighters in that it's a weapon fighter if that makes sense. I got the game and dlc on sale its worth it for me. Graphics are nice, 2 different story modes along with the usual arcade mode. Some quality and iconic characters, plus some cool dlc characters. There is a quality character customization system in terms of costumes as well as weapons. You can also create your own character.
Many great console games come to PC to die, Soulcalibur VI is no exception.
My favorite fighting game series. Been with it since the first one and even though the series has had its ups and downs, its still one of the coolest 3D weapon-fighters ever made.
I wish my computer could run this game, but i like the character customization
you can edge while becoming the edge master by fighting the edge master with your own edge to see who's edge comes first.
then you can get banned from using custom characters for making tiddymosters after potentially destroying countless childhoods.
id buy it again
SOULCALIBUR VI Key Elements:
- Refined 3D weapons-based combat
- Innovative Reversal Edge system
- Dual story modes: Libra of Souls and Soul Chronicle
- Extensive character creation
- Geralt of Rivia as perfect guest character
Standout Features:
The combat system balances accessibility with depth perfectly. Character creation offers unprecedented customization, while the story modes provide dozens of hours of engaging content.
Great game ruined by early life balance issues and crappy online infrastructure.
during ranked queue's i wish I could be in training mode to do warm-ups until the game finds an opponent, instead of waiting without being able to do anything else.
apart from that top game!
I am so disappointed that Soul Calibur gets abandoned like this game did. The series deserves more love and more regular updates. It's like no one plays this game anymore. Waiting for a new installment, I guess.
There were definitely balance issues with characters like 2B also which have too powerful movesets for the original cast to compete with. And the modes aren't ideal. But the core of Soul Calibur is represented well by this game. And if you like Soul Calibur, you'll likely like this game.
i dont play fighting games very often but ive played 5 different soul calibur games now and i cant get enough! these games are fun, they test your willpower. they are different from games like street fighter mortal kombat and tekken because its weapon based combat. if youre looking for something different this game probably has something of interest.
I spent an hour recreating skeletor then immediately uninstalled the game. Worth. Every. Cent.
The Soulcalibur community is toxic. Players will curse at you, teabag you, even complain when they're winning. Noobs will whine that you're too "hardcore" and pro's either spam combos that perfectly make sure you can't get a single second to stand up or block.
I've been playing Soul Caliber since the second game. I would recommend this for anyone looking to fill that hole in your life, especially if you've been a long time fan, but also for newcomers. My only issues with this game are the DLC, which seems like a cash grab for characters we realistically expect, like Yun-Seung / Hwang.
I really wish this game came with more options for VS game play. We had more capabilities in Soul Cal V, like options for the amount of health. That seems like a simple fix, but it won't come now, since the game is nearly 8 years old.
Characters are balanced as far as combinations are concerned. They've nerfed some minor details, but really it feels like it's in the service of a better game play experience. If you get the DLC, it's a fairly complete game. If you do your research, you'll find that the Soul Caliber series does not get the love it used to get from the developer, and I believe development was rushed, which accounts for the low quality of story more etc.
Overall, I'm enjoying my purchase, but I'd recommend waiting for sales to get the game + DLC
This is like TEKKEN but much more with Swords .X. i really like this type of games! its just fight! also i rate this 8/10 cuz there is GERALD from The Witcher series! really yes! but there is also a HUGE MINUS!!! you cant skip INTROS in boring story cut-scenes! But i wil record some videos 1v1 fights here to my yt channel: johnylukesvideos
A beautiful and excellently crafted fighter that may sadly be the last hurrah of this legendary series. The game has a solid story with beautifully drawn characters and moments with actual clear narrative that I think makes this the best game of the series in regards to story. I wish it had some of the features that the older games do but it is a solid experience and hopefully not the last the PC will see. Remakes please!!!
Pros:
the finest character creator of the series
Excellent combat
Fantastic story
Stunning visuals
Cons:
Legacy characters as DLC!
Dead online
Good fighting game. Great for beginners to the genre. The lore of the game is amazing as well.
tekken but with better blocking and faster pace
Probably one of the funnest and funniest fighting games to play as a casual player. Solid and diverse character creation and gameplay mechanics make it extremely engaging and refreshing to play. BUT the sad thing is the game is a bit old, so online matches are impossible to find unless you have a friend to play with. IF you do have friends to play with, be it online or offline, I highly recommend this game, otherwise we can just cope that SoulCalibur 7 will be released soon.
Let’s get the huge negative out of the way. Custom characters in ranked was a huge mistake. I bought this game on release and it turned me off the game eventually. Custom characters ruin the competitive integrity and spirit of ranked; characters having different heights and hit/hurtboxes from the character that’s being mimicked introduces a wide spectrum of variance in the match. I know SoulCalibur has always had a stronger customization mode and I do agree that it should be celebrated. However, competitive integrity and the customization can and should exist as two separate entities.
Despite that negative, offline tournaments/sessions will always be the gold standard and the game holds up well there.
The new mechanic, Reversal Edge, was somewhat contentious. When a Reversal Edge hits, an RPS minigame occurs, which slows down the match. However, Reversal Edges have an obvious flaw – being very vertical. As skill level increased, the mechanic became used less and less. Consequently, I wasn’t entirely put off by the mechanic’s consequence of slowing the game down since it happened less often over time. Whenever it did happen however, it became more a knowledge check than anything. As an example - like how in Tekken how you’d want to break King’s Rolling Death Cradle if he happened to get the Arm Breaker grab on you…for Reversal Edge, you’ll wanna make sure to defend against Geralt’s A option at all costs, especially for ring out scenarios. Getting hit with non-A options would just be a small price to pay compared to the bigger punishment (unless it’s a low HP situation, then have fun lol).
Therefore, I wouldn’t call Reversal Edge a success, but I don’t think it’s the colossal disaster that some interpret it to be. If they want to do something like this again for the next entry, I would ask Namco to take inspiration from Tekken’s Power Crush or SF4’s Focus Attack. As it is right now, Reversal Edge is awkward and it didn’t exactly help beginners defend better either.
I’ve been fairly critical so far – so why do I still recommend it? I recognize that not all buyers of a fighting game are necessarily tournament players. I enjoyed the package as a whole. The single player content is good and the roster is great too. Geralt, 2B and Haohmaru being available as guest characters still kinda blows my mind. If you’ve played SoulCalibur in the past, the overall presentation and action should scratch that itch. Libra of Souls, Story Mode and of course, Character Creation/Customization should keep most players occupied enough.
my friend says this game is bad but since he says that about every game we have over 20 hours in I assume that means its decent
You sanction China, but you sanction RMB, umm.....
When I say you are smart, I mean smart.
Negative is Positive.
I love this game. I keep coming back to it for single player and for the character creator even though I've got more modern fighting games like Strive and SF6 in my library. This game is super fun for local multiplayer as well. I haven't tried the online matchmaking. The role-playing campaign modes take a while to get up to speed, but after you get the hang of navigating the map in campaign mode, it's also quite good.
EDIT: Pick it up with the full DLC when this game is on sale! This game is great and I wish there was more stuff that I could buy for it, but I haven't run out of content yet.
online is dead and so is the franchise
got to love bandai for keeping a game $80 6 years after release
It's Soulcalibur. It's fun, satisfying, and gorgeous.
The story is super amazing with hints of previous installments. The combos are great too! Tbh, this is the 3D fighting game we need beside Tekken. The new mechanics gave us new combos and comeback opportunities. It's a shame that they put low effort for customization mode :(
Good looking fighting game with characters from different universes.
Decent charater creation to make your own fighters.
basic a Sword Fighting game, mixed with a "street fighter" game mode.. really great. LOVED!
This game is alright.
Vodka got me back into the game. 10/10 Soulcalibur 7 when?
I haven't been online in a while but when I did use it the system worked well. It has robust single-player features and it's just fun to play.
Want to beat things up? --> play this game
Want to have the violence not be bloody? --> play this game
Want to feel like you're watching ChatGPT come up with dialogue about fighting? --> play this game
Want to feel extremely toxic as you destroy your enemies? --> play this game
Basically just play this game. it's great. 10/10 would recommend.
Controller bindings are glitched for Xbox 360 controllers at least where the game always reads double inputs, making single key inputs on controllers impossible. I tried fixing it with rebindings and even found this old community post about this same issue from 2021. Seems like it was never patched and the fix provided in the post did not work for me. Not worth the headache to deal with what should be a simple fix on the dev's end.
i like dressing up the silly muscular fellows in cutesy clothes c:
1. I bought this game just for story mode and introduction of popular characters of SOULCALIBUR series and on that front , this game deliveries.
2. Note: I liked this game but could not get into tekken 7.
3. The best thing about this game is that it lets you create your own character.
4. Give this game a try if you want to play a fighting game.
Make a new soulcal bamco wtf
Before they disappear into the ether EVERYONE needs to experience a Voldo on Voldo sexy dance.
games cool, still doesn't bring the feel of OG SC2. Go back to that style. And the game would be great, even this late in the release.
Fun if you have friends to play with casually. In all other respects, it's a somewhat mediocre game. Some of my main issues are the lack of cohesion and realism with the artstyle and historical setting the game supposedly takes place in, very simple story mode, oversexualization of characters, lack of online features, and expensive DLC cosmetics which don't even look very good.
custom character creation is awesome but the gameplay is pretty casual with rock-paper-scissor mechanics. still pretty fun tho
It's fun for arcade, custom stuff and screwing around with different characters, but it's just a massive step back from older titles like SC2. I don't understand why they don't just remaster that game instead of applying all these new mechanics.
Reverse Edge? Why do I need to play janken with people and reset to neutral? It's stupid.
Super meters and soul charge? Dude, just have it be a soul charge like in SC2 instead of this weird animation lock in nonsense.
Part of what makes SC2 so amazing is that it's simple. It's very, very easy to load it up, play it and get started. It's hard to get really good at, but you understand how to get good at it because the fundamentals are the key. Learning characters, sure, but if you just have good positioning, know YOUR character and be methodical, you can get good. There's loads of depth to it.
This feels like an overcomplication to an absurd degree. Maxi is pure wtf-sauce in move lists. Stances out the ass for a bunch of characters. What for? Why? I don't have the time to sit and study this stuff. Who is this made for? The competitive base which vanished?
Keep it simple. Online is mostly empty now, and the players you meet are usually vets, so they'll combo and juggle you into another dimension before you can even react.
I hope SCVII becomes a thing one day, but they really just need to get back to basics. SC2 / SC3 style and that's it. This god damned stroke inducing giant list of stupid moves with 384 different stances, janken mini-games and super cutscenes ain't it. Feels like a different game wearing Soul Calibur as a skin suit sometimes.
Runs fine on the deck btw.
The only game in Unreal Engine that doesn't look like garbage
Great fighting game with cool customizable character feature.
Honestly, the Libra missions were repetitive. The story is campy, maybe lost in translation. The game could use some kind of blood or damage indicators to make it a little more gruesome. Soul Calibur 4 was a better all around game IMO. If you are a real fan of the series, then I guess you'll like it; but for someone who doesn't really care about the lore, the characters, or really most of these anime-like stories, I'm glad I got it on sale.
One of the better fighting games out there although you do have to put some time in to get used to it as there are vets who play that stomp you haha. Very fun though and character creation is very good
SoulCalibur VI is an accomplished package and a fighting game that just feels great to play. In many ways it returns to the series' roots with a confidence that's been missing from previous entries, and the result is an approachable, entertaining, and rewarding weapon-based brawler.
Not as great as i remember Soulcalibur II, but really quite a bit better than i expected
