don't think the creator of this game knows what tower defense is
Sorry, but I didn't like it, it was too hard for me... I didn't even pass the first level
I don't recommend
Terrible graphics and gameplay and just not fun to play. I came back to this game after seeing that I had only played for a few minutes a couple years back, but there was obviously a reason for that. This game has a one note mechanic with the overheating volcano attack. Yawn!
A really disgusting, awful and frustrating game. First of all, developers lies to Steam info page: isn`t a Tower Defense, actually is a failed mix of Time Management and Top Down Shooter games. The graphics are poor, below average of both genres. At least haven't bugs.
The mechanics is theoretically good, but has been implemented in evil way. Player has a lonely base, a volcano, and his mission is defense its doors with a very restricted weaponry. The main weapon is a cannon of lava balls with unlimited ammo, but must be aimed manually and has too slowly reload speed: every 4 consecutives shots, it get hot and blocks nearby 2 seconds. There are other weapons, like a spike wall to strike back anyone to attack a door, but there is only one and must be change to provides cover for until 4 weak doors; also a machine gun with 15 shots and fireguns with only 3 loads of shots; and of course all must be operated manually. There is a shop to buy little upgrades, door repairs an ammo reloads, but there isn't ingame pause option to do something out of real time, even buy.
The big issue is that there are a lot of foes in moviment to diferent distances and directions, moving by many routes at once, growing their number and endurance. Game demands constantly a good accuracy, wide vision and speedy mind coordination, but more soon than later player will make mistakes, because he isn't a machine. It is very easy miss targets, the main weapon increasingly stops, the ammo empties fast and chances to win decreases quickly and mercilessly with each silly fail. And all this could be see already at level 3!
Naturally, less of 6% o player continue playing beyond, so isn´t necesary to tell more. This product offers bit or nothing to thinking or planning in things like tactics, strategies or buildings proyects, but demands tons of eyes and fingers coordination reflexes for do the same, in the same map, again and again. Theres isn't nothing to create, learn or explore here, indeed is an unhealthy product because generates more anxiety than fun. That happens when a game is designed by and for hardcore players, not for common people: its title defines the result perfectly. Only for players with AI; mantain children far from this.
I don't think the creator of this game knows what tower defense is. This is not a tower defense game. I am also fairly certain this is not a strategy game in any way, I mean, shoot the guys coming at your gate is not a strategy, it is the only objective. Strategy implies there is more than one way to do a thing or choices to make in upgrades or something, this game has none of this. By level 3 the game is near unbeatable. Making a game hard for the sake of it is not adding substance or challenge, especially when there is only 1 thing you can do in the game, shoot lava at approaching villagers. I see now why this game is often 50 cents, still not worth it.
nope
This game is a fiery disaster, even at .50 cents it’s a steaming pile and not worth your time.
Slow attack mechanics, and weapon cool downs make the game an absolute chore.
This is not a tower defense game, its more of a turret defense.
You man one gun and fire at troops that march at you.
It's like a handicap hybrid of PVZ and some shitty mobile turret game.
just nope...
this is not tower defence.. and not fun..
I like a challenge in a game, but the difficulty level in this one is just plain ridiculous. Requested a refound, although it was only 0.49€.
Its absolute trash bois. Really the cooldown mechanic makes the game annoying and really kills the mood for endless wave defense. So fuck this trash don't buy it, repetitive and the combat isn't even fun.
So I've finally found some time to play this game and... it's perfectly fine. A fun action clicker that will eat up some of your time untill you get used to the difficulty.
By no means is it an AAA masterpiece and a Game of the Year material, but honestly, you could spend your money way worse. Fiery Dissaster delivers what it promisses - fast paced action with a pinch of strategy and resource management (in regards to your regular attack overheat metter, upgrades, or even unburnt ground that damages the enemies more the first time your lava plume lands on it, etc.).
I honestly don't know why somebody would find it not reccomenable for people who are into such games. One reviewer says he/she doesn't see the point of this game. Well, for the most part, the purpose of any game is to be fun for the player, and Fiery Dissaster is fun (again, if you like such games). Another one says it's not really tower defence and strategy. Well, while agree it's not a full blown strategy game, neither is Bejeweled and it still has the tag. There are different flavors of strategy, and this game is one of them. Also, it's not a tower defense game? Then what the hell is it? You have a tower (volcano), and you defend it. You don't build stuff apart from getting upgrades, but of course it's a tower defense game! Also, if you check the instructions box (or play long enough, which the negative reviewers didn't apparently), you'll see it's actually a bit more complex than meets the eye. Hell, it even has two player mode!
Ok, rant over.
In regards to technicalities, again, they're fine. Simple, but neat, 2D graphics and OK music and sounds (apart from the overheatting noise - goddamn, that's annoying. Fortunatelly, you can turn it of in options). You also get a well made intro and a dark-ish plot about everybody getting crazyier and crazyier as the story goes, that also serves the purpose of introducing new upgrades. Wickedly fun. Also, the game is polished. We all know what "gems" one can get from Greenlight, and this game shows that the creators at least gave a damn. I haven't had any critical errors, gamebreaking bugs or anything like that. In fact, I don't think I've had any trouble with the game whatsoever.
As far as I know, this is the studio's first game. This means not everything will be perfect, of course. Apart from the overheating sound (I know, I know, it's just... damn, I guess the creators and beta testers were good enough not to hear it constantly, like I did) and OK graphics and sound (again, enough, but nothing too fancy) there are some things that show their inexperience, but nothing too bad.
My issues/advice for the creators:
- why is it called Arcade mode when it's basically survival? You could avoid at least one negative review if you called it that, so that people don't click first to check gameplay.
- The color of unlocked missions and locked missions is the same on my monitor (the former should be white, the latter grey I guess, everything white-ish for me).
- Arcade mode has no description – the first thing that appears after clicking it is the choice between single- and multiplayer and then leaderboard. It just begs for an introduction like „Welcome to Arcade (coughcoughSurvivalcough) mode. Here, you have to try to survive for as long as possible. Note you should play Campaign first to get to know the mechanics etc. etc.”
And that's it. These are my biggest gripes with the game. Which can telly you one thing – the game is polished enough that I had to grasp at straws to find something bad to say about it thats not “derp, I haven't even checked the video introducing the game on store page and it's not what I thought, 0/10”, which, honestly, is silly.
All in all, I heartly recommend the game for people who like both action and tower defense. The game is fun, you can see the developers have potential and work hard to make it as good as it can be. I'll be looking forward to their next games, and so should you.
I didn't really find the point of this game.
Arcade mode is terrible, played it 8x and could never even get far enough to buy even one upgrade.
Maybe I'm not far enough into it, but it doesn't seem to be what it claims to be. I didn't hate it enough to ask for a return. If I manage to stomach it long enough to be surprised, I may edit.
When I see the Strategy tag, I expect it to be a major part of the gameplay from the start. I don't see any in the first few levels. It's not campaign-promise level false advertising, but it's certainly a major letdown for me. Maybe they slip actual strategy in later, but so far I feel like I've been invited out for Indian and served a burger. At no point will I feel less cheated if the deep-fried oreos for dessert are served with chai.
The ad claims "Epic cinematic music". Shenanigans. It's ok. It doesn't detract from the gameplay. It's far better than the tinny crap that makes some folks wax nostalgic. But Epic and cinematic? Don't compare yourself to Michael Giacchino if you're outclassed by Bon Jovi.
Enough about what it isn't. Here's what it is: Bad guys come out. You throw manually aimed fireballs at the square you think they'll be in by the time it gets there. You get doubly punished for missing, both on the score and because if you shoot too often, you overheat and can't fire for a few seconds. The rate at which enemies spawn is faster than you can shoot w/o overheating. You're going to take some damage without near perfect accuracy (maybe even with it). That may change if you get farther in, but the first few levels are almost pure whack-a-mole. Except whack-a-mole doesn't punish you for swinging too fast. It's tough, fast-paced, and very early you find yourself fighing on multiple fronts.
If that appeals to you, great. Give it a try. For the price it seems like a good deal for folks who like what the mechanics acutally are. Just don't expect "Strategy" or "Tower Defense", at least not in the first few levels.
The game seems pretty nice, if you're into tower defense games - you should definitely like it.
Played for some time already. It's funny but demanding and fast paced (no coffe time during round!). New elements are brought in the game in civilized matter, yet it takes some time to master them.
Only thing that was confusing for some time was building's purposes, but after a moment u can remember this easily.
If u like games that are rewarding but aren't too easy on You, try this one.
I played the demo before release, and was looking forward to the full version. The game is a lot of fun, and very unique! But it's difficult, I'm stuck on mission 6, almost beat it but not quite yet :O
And the music is really epic!
