Would be a 5/5 recommend from me, but the online broke almost a year ago and still no fix for it. Dev is aware. Sad day for golf.
cant have a tee time with the boys when the online doesnt work
Only just started playing this & love it. Just wanted to mention that it works perfectly on Steam Deck OOTB.
The game itself is fun BUT the online doesnt work and the only thing to do is play the challenges against bots but heres the catch, the bots are the best golfers ever. The ROOKIE bots get either par or birdie on every hole so its impossible to beat them. Overall didnt like the game.
Left mouse button doesn't work to aim. It shows that I should be able to look around and aim, but I cannot. When I connect a controller, I can aim just fine, but I HATE the joystick hitting mechanism. Developer seems to have abandoned the game and made it impossible for mice/keyboard users to play a casual round. Unfortunate.
I don't even like golf, but making your own courses is dope and so is VR support. As far as not liking golf goes, this game does a good job of making it fun.
Edit: I just checked the store page and I guess I paid money for this, I forgot I even bought it, but I'm glad I did.
I liked it when it worked. It says you're supposed hold the grip button to take your shot with Index controllers, but when I do that, it just changes which club the hand is in, which the trigger is supposed to do, but the trigger does nothing. With my Vive 2018 wands, the trigger changes which hand the club is in, but the holding grip doesn't let you hit the ball, so each behave differently, but neither will work. I used to play Tee Time golf without issue. Then I remember this started awhile ago, so I can't help but wonder, if when they did the update to allow stick use on game pads, if it broke the motion controllers functions and it been messed up all this time, without them knowing. Maybe not, and its a more recent issue or its just me messing up, but...I used to play, without issue, now I can't play.
It's a fun game with enough realism to be challenging. The devs are great people. They helped a friend of mine when the game had a multiplayer issue on the oculus store. Its an early access game with devs that are passionate about their game.
Pretty fun golf game with a great course editor. I spend more time working on the editor than i do actually golfing.
I like the game in some ways. But it has problems. First if you are a little ways away and hit the ball very well and it is going for the hole it will bounce off the flag pole. This has ruined a few beautifully placed shots. The flag pole should not do this.
This is a multiplayer game and not a bad single player game if you are online. But if you are forced to be offline it is the pits.
Offline there are only 3 bots to play and they are the pits. It would be better to have the option of playing alone since they usually put you with "Duffy" a beginner.
It is too bad that many game producers are so greedy. The Offline issues are designed to make the game almost unplayable in offline mode. You can not even share a a headset and play. Also all the user courses are online only, even if you developed the course yourself. This allows the game maker to take possession of all user made content. Also if they decide to move on and turn off the online content you lose your game. I have seen this happen. If the developers don't like how all this sounds please fix offline play so we can continue to have fun even if the game is later abandoned.
Love this game! Great job devs and keep it up. Never can have too many courses to play. This VR golf game is easily the most consistent and least frustrating of the bunch.
I really like this. I don't really care about golf. I've never actually golfed. I'm not even really interested in golf. The only golf game I ever enjoyed was the 3DS Mario Golf.
I can't eloquently explain why I enjoyed this as much as I did, but I really did, and I wanted to keep playing more when my friend had to stop. I'm not even good! There is something about this game also in the scheme of VR games that is interesting and uncommon. It feels pretty well-suited to VR and intelligently designed in the VR implementation, but also strangely clinical. Not to say that is a bad thing, but it is peculiar. My only real complaint with the VR interactions is I would much prefer a laser pointer for menu control as an option in addition to fake touch screen. It is pretty easy to select things when doing character customization and the kind of pointer control is more precise/controllable in my experience. Plus you can do support both simultaneously with no issue!
The developer clearly is invested in the project and I hope that more people will take a look into it. Certainly more fun as a social experience (as are most things), and it would be nice if there were enough people playing at any given time to be able to find an online game.
This game is awesome! Brings back all the memories of Avatar Golf on Xbox Live Indie. This game honestly deserves more recognition than it has been getting. Thank you for making this Avatar Golf lover happy!
Surprisingly good golf game despite the simple graphics which add a certain charm to the game. Works well on my oculus quest 2 with airlink in VR mode or you can use normal play which is by far easier. Not many people online which is a shame as the game fun when played with others.
This is one of the most underrated games in VR in my opinion. It is just so much fun to play. There are tons of courses, and the Challenges pit you against AI players with personalities and strengths and weaknesses that are truly enjoyable. With a few fixes, it could be so much better.
The putting is not executed well at all. There are three putters available for some reason and if you are on the green and switch to a medium putter, take a shot and miss, you have to remember to go through the settings again because it goes back to the default Mega Putter. What the Mega putter is for is not explained. A golf bag has one putter in it and this game should too. It's a real pain to have to keep switching between putters on the green depending on how far you are from the hole.
No matter which putter you use, the greens are like an ice skating rink and the ball slides all over it. A sky high shot or flop coming straight down on the green takes a huge, unrealistic bounce and skates way, way far from the hole. When putting, you can hit it very softly so it just barely misses the hole and it will slide many feet away. If you miss a tap in, it may just keep going and going away even if hit gently. It's just too exaggerated and extreme. You can have a great round going and the putting will kill it for you. I don't mind missing shots if they are not good, but the icy greens can be very frustrating. Same with pitches and chips off the green. You can hit it softly, but it will roll for what seems like forever and the amount of roll does not stack up with the angle of the green or how hard you hit it. There is some bug that happens on occasion when you hit the putt straight, the ball will jolt and slide away to the left very fast. I've had that happen about five times while playing. It just happens now and again.
The only other issue is the controller. You have to remove the battery from the second controller before you launch Steam or it will register the second controller and it's just awful to have to keep picking it up and putting it down. It really takes away from the immersion of the game.
This is the golf game I was looking for in VR. Lighthearted but challenging, like I fondly remember Mario Golf being on Wii.
On HTC Vive (external tracking) with one controller, I can take pretty natural golf swings and the results feel good.
The game does need polish in some areas, but it is currently very playable and the devs are active.
The game is quite fun, but I can't figure out why the devs didn't add a driving range. I would love to be able to efficiently practice my swings to get the hang of swing power + hitting the ball straight, but the only option as far as I can tell is just playing a normal round of golf. The game would be a lot better and I'd spend a lot more time in it if they added a range that showed your swing stats immediately after each swing.
(And if the devs are reading this, the range could also benefit from being able to quickly skip to the next shot whenever you want. For example, you just hit the ball, immediately display any swing stats (power, how straight it was, etc.) and then you can press a button to immediately be ready to take your next shot instead of having to wait for your first shot to hit the ground and stop rolling etc.)
Finally, a VR golf game I can't put down. Don't get me wrong though, I enjoyed The Golf Club, but it's not the same type of golf game at all. This is more like Hot Shots, or some other more "arcade style" golf game. I've played golf games ever since the first Tiger Woods came out, so I do consider myself experienced with the genre. I've tried any VR golf experience out there looking for the right one, and I'm glad I bought this one.
Things I like about the game:
- It's a pretty gorgeous game tbh, it's nice and colorful and just a pleasant environment to play some VR golf
- It's reward system had me hooked, as you level you can hit farther shots from the farther tees
- There are a fair amount of customization options for your golfer, though I pretty much got my first outfit and just kept it
- I love love love that there is user made content available. It's not all great obviously, but some courses really shine. Someone even made a really great putt putt golf course that I keep playing for putting practice
- There are full controls available for single controller play, this makes a big difference to me anyway
- The "Challenges" are a fun way to level up and get better at the game before playing online, however.. see first con
A few nitpicks I have about the game:
- Online play is lacking. It's there, but there doesn't seem to be nearly as many people as I'd expect. I've played with one person so far and it was great. I just wish I could play more with people online.
- There is no option to recent yourself in your VR environment in-game. This wouldn't be as much an issue if not for the fact that it forces you to play in the very front right of your playspace. I had to redo my room setup to give me more space away from my desk
- It can be a bit glitchy. I'm actually writing this review right now because I was waiting for the game to reinstall after having a glitchy session. So far I've noticed 3 main glitches that were rare until this morning, hopefully just a bug on my end. A fun one that resets your ball after making your putt, so if you made a birdie, it makes you shoot again for bogie. Another one may be a tracking thing, but sometimes putts will just zoom off to the left instead of how your putter contacted the ball. The third one just happened the first time to me twice, where if you hit in the water you don't get your ball back, you just sit there until having to exit the match.
All in all:
I frickin love this game, even though it needs a little work. I hope to see further improvements to the game in the future, first and foremost being the ability to reset where you are standing in your play space. The other things haven't been prominent enough to really gripe about them, I'm still enjoying the heck out of the game after 15 hours, and that sounds like a good deal for 10 bucks. I'm gonna go play some more now that it's reinstalled.
Well I was going to give this game a good review until I went to play it and continue my challenges only to find out I am not online and won't earn XP or coins.. it even asked me to check my connection , so I did. Steam was working, friends were online, Youtube loaded and watched a video even, went back to play and still said I was offline. So obviously something on there server side, but considering I was only playing single player challenges, why would I even need to be online? Why am I not able to play the game without connecting to some random server monitoring how I play when I all I want to do is play some single player challenges? For that , this game fails.
If you are looking for a simple looking yet deep gold game, here you are.
And it has all the bells and whistles: user made courses, variety of gear, and private matches with friends.
It will punish you for not keeping your eye on the ball, this isn't a simple console golf game.
This is VR.
Hope to see you on the virtual links!
Probably the best golf VR game I've played, completely let down by the fact that there's no in-game option to reset/recentre view in VR. Resetting the view via Oculus button does nothing, nor does using Steam's "reset seated view" option. Neither has any effect on your in-game position/view.
The default position for the ball is RIGHT AT THE EDGE of your boundary/play area, so for those with smaller play areas, you're basically screwed if you want to play comfortably - you're going to be hitting your wall/desk/monitor/whatever pretty much every swing. Almost every other VR game I've ever played has had the option to reset view, it's insane that this one doesn't.
Add to that major issue the fact that the menus are horrible to navigate because you actually have to prod the buttons instead of pointing and clicking - and since you can't reset your view, god forbid anything is ANYWHERE near the front of your play area.
I can't really recommend this game until these basic oversights are fixed. But what is there is actually a very fun golf experience, so long as you have a huge play area and don't mind the fact that you can't recentre your view. Hopefully this gets fixed in a future update.
Casual golf game. Took a minute to find a match online but once I got a game going, it was everything I expected (which is a GOOD thing). This is not so "sim" that you get frustrated but will still reward skill and technique. This is very accessible for new players and once you get a group of friends together it's pure fun. I am looking forward to trying new courses.
Over two years and somebody has finally delivered a working VR fun round of golf. Don't get me wrong the more professional approach taken by the Golf Club has great working mechanics, but im sure im not the only one that finds it a little less fun when the realisation kicks in that your no type of golfer.
This is the Hotshots approach. The character creation is extensive, the 8 courses will take you an age to get through, looking at the screens of the other courses there appears to be variety.
On the course taking the shot was simple enough, you won't need to try too hard to to get full distance on a driver or iron shots. Non the less though, it retains the satisfaction of playing a shot. The chip shots need some work, they seem a little floaty and playing from a bunker seems no different than playing from a fairway, A more visual representation of wind would be good, and perhaps some kind of visual behind the golfer to indicate the arc of a full swing. I have a few more suggestions that could improve things to make it a little more appealing to the Hotshot product it wants to be.
All said though, this is very much that golf game i've wanted since i first played Cloudlands. The simple fun you had when you first picked up the putter in cloudlands has been replicated here.
For the cost you won't be short changed if your here just for a single player game, if multiplayer works then it's an absolute bargain for the price.
