i like it. changes things up.
Pros: Fun gameplay, Decent repeatable physics, Fun characters and themes.
Cons: Matchmaking nonexistent (No player found ever.), Editor extremely basic compared to existing courses, Game abandoned for new zen minigolf project.
Prettymuch par for the course as far as Zen projects go. Great game but they've already moved on. Pick it up cheap with the free DLC for some fun local play but if you're looking to play with online folks there's more consistent matchmaking options out there.
It is a decent little mini golf game. I enjoyed the first two levels and editing my character. It felt just a little empty for some reason. Why is it $5, even on sale as a five year old...essentially solo mini golf game? I mean you can play it online or whatever but...from the looks of it, no one plays online...so...
It states that is has VR support with a Gamepad Controller. Although I would prefer the VR controller I would have still enjoyed using my Xbox Controller. However, there is no option in the menu for a controller. What's the point of playing a minigolf game in VR but having to use the mouse and keyboard? Obviously I didn't even try to play it with keyboard because I simply got it for VR and regret it. Sort of... It was on sale for $3, so I will keep it... Maybe I will update this review once I get bored of my actual VR minigolf games and try this game. Final Notes: If someone is going to explain how to get it to function in VR... I shouldn't have to feel I'm modding the game in order to play it as it has VR and Controller Support in the description.
SImple minigolf. The grab-bag style "random through user-generated levels" is an interesting trip.
The character customization is fun, but it's not amazing.
Fun little Minigolf game. Sometimes there are framerate drops, but the power ups and tons of customization option for your avatar makes it enjoyable for at least a while.
it's a cute and charming game. Fairly easy to grasp. A little basic tutorial option would be nice as not all things are obvious. Very family friendly game though. Also wish they had more animations for the characters as the ones they have get repeatative quickly.
This is not a great game but it is not a bad game either. On the plus side there are tons of holes to play mostly created by other players. collecting Steam badges and decking your avatar in fun. And the golf physics are accurate. On the minus side player created holes are crap they are either impossible or too simple (though every once in a while you will run across one that is awesome one). The hole editor is clunky. And there are bugs. Music will sometimes cut out (which is a shame as it is quite catchy) and random crashes in Quick Play when changing holes. Overall it is not a bad game for the money I spent so I recommend this.
So VR support is what made me buy this game. Unfortunately it doesn't have vr controller support which kinda sucks. Might as well not add VR at all.
Fun game but don't bother getting for VR.
Surprised to see negative comments on what turns out to be one of the best minigolf games on steam and for a bargain price at the moment. The added bonus is the VR option which is by the way amazing although a little more difficult to play as you have to use an xbox controller. I recommend you adjust the sensitivity ingame to improve this. Better than Golf with Friends and great if you have people to play with, the downside being the online multiplayer is sparsely populated.
It's a great concept for a game but it plays horribly. The controls are not bad but hitting the ball and the speed at which you hit is is very confusing. Also, the game crashes a lot. I have yet to finish a round of however many holes there are because it crashes and all i am trying to do is play with my daughter and have fun. Don't get me started on the maps. I have encountered numerous maps where you get stuck under objects or you get in an endless loop where you just sit watching the ball get pushed around. Some of the holes are literally a small little plot of land and your ball is like 2 ft from the hole...literally nothing but a small plot of land, ball, and hole. So many maps that you can't even tell what to do. I really do like the concept and creativity and that you can customize your people and your balls and everything. That is awesome. But the actual gameplay is very frustrating. Like after the 4th time crashing to the desktop I just said no more and came to write a review.
The title is a bit of a misnomer; there maybe infinite HOLES, but not COURSES. I expect to have a 9 or 18 hole COURSE to play, not just 9 or 18 separate holes.
There are actually only 5 courses available, and they are well done for the most part. The swing mechanics are easy to understand and use, and the 5 courses are fun.
It's just that with a title of "Infinite Minigolf" I expected a number of courses to play, not just separate holes.
For me, I give it a thumbs down because of these limited courses.
I kinda liked the game in the beginning ...
But it seems more like something for kids to play to be honest. All the clutter of gems, power-ups and whatever kinda ruined it for me personally.
If I want to play Minigolf I'd rather play a bit more realistic way.
Just a personal opinion.
I like this game so much! You can create your own courses and/or play the ones created by other people. It's safe to say you'll have an unlimited supply of courses to play on for a long time!
On a side note, it would be great if there were more world themes in addition to the ones already available and a "Nightmare" difficulty. I feel like Hard mode is not difficult enough for me anymore.
To sum things up, this is a great minigolf game for pro players and rookies alike. :)
Please note that if you are planning to play this inside your HTC Vive, this game DOES NOT recognize the Vive controllers. Until this is corrected the game is useless in Vive.
I played this on the Oculus Rift with Xbox Controller. No issues. Courses were fun, zany, pretty well detailed, lots of creativity here. The VR environments were also very well done. Sounds were good. Upgrades to your avatar along the way to make you want to play more. I definitely think that VR adds much to this game, which would probably be boring otherwise.
That's because the gameplay itself is not really all that compelling. It's mostly trial and error. Obviously, some courses are just way too easy and others will seem impossible. So there is a bit of strategy involved. There's also just a lot of luck involved. It seemed to me that I could hit a ball exactly the same way and end up with different outcomes on some course layouts, especially the curved ones which is a lot of them.
I did have fun. I think the zaniness of the courses keeps it from getting stale. But there's just not enough depth to the core gameplay. I paid $10.49 for this game on sale and I think I got a nice deal. I think this game would be more fun with friends as an easy intro that anybody can pick up quickly and start competitive play (like mini-golf).
Sale Price Rating 7/10. It's a fun game, but it's an arcade style mini-golf which needs more of a challenge other than interesting course layouts. I think the powermeter going up and down and a limited time to choose direction could have solved this issue.
ALSO: This game would have been so much better in VR if motion controllers were utilized instead of a gamepad. I think just that one change would make this a must buy. Obviously, you'd go into first person mode while taking swings. But then you could go back to 3rd person view.
I'll be straight with you. I bought this game because of the cute girl. I like golf games like Hot shots golf and pangya. Now minigolf is a different beast but it has it's own charm. It's more about knocking the ball around some crazy obstacle courses than nailing that 15yd putt.
So first on the content. There's a decent amount of default courses, but there's a near infinite amount of user created courses which really makes the game. As long as people keep making courses, this is gonna have unlimited replayability.
The character creator actually has a fair bit of content as well. You can unlock outfits as you play and from what I see, there's a few dozen different outfits. You can customize their hair, shirt, pants, shoes, accessories, and even their belt. The selection is actually quite vast and will keep you playing to unlock stuff for your character for awhile.
The controls are fine. And the graphics are pretty good for what it is. Reminds me of pixar. A very cartoon-y CG style.
It's a good game to relax for fun. Not too competitive. Kind of reminds me of playing Peggle. And that's a good thing.
VIVE w/ Xbox One controller here.
It's like being inside one of ZEN's amazing Pinball FX2 tables.
Seeing an R/C helicopter fly in circles overhead (It was SO WEIRD and realistic because the scale is exactly the same as the one I own.)
With giant broken skateboards and a vibrating cellphone on the table as an obstacle. Nuff said, best Minigolf game I ever played.
You KNOW it's good when you give the controller to somebody and they don't give it back.
At times you may get your ball stuck behind a giant bulldog's a**! He's massive!
Bravo ZEN. Once again!
It has got potential. Cool you can play it in VR, but please add support for the VR motion controllers.
Also, please add in a regular golf mode where you play to par, without the gems. How could you leave this out?
And, please make searching for an online match easier - allow viewing the list of matches rather than blindly trying to connect to a specific game-type.
Finally, please let us be able to practice while we are waiting for an online match to be available, it is so boring waiting for a match.
I'll preface by saying Planet Minigolf is, imo, the best damn video game ever made - and no, I don't say that lightly at all. There are 14,000 user made courses online, and the physics and customizability are unparalleled in my not limited experience. Playing Planet Minigolf couch co-op style has been something my wife and I have enjoyed for . . . hmmm . . . 7 years. It rules, and I could write a whole essay about how it rules, probably.
That said, I WANT Inifinite Minigolf to rule just as much . . .
. . . BUT just a few very crucial things are not happening here.
1) Others have said the controllers are a problem. Too sensitive. Well, try an xBox 360 controller, and I think you'll see it works okay with those. But that's an issue, since this is being sold on Steam. The darn Steam Controller should dang well work on it, and there should be a default recommended Steam Controller config up. Might as well make it one that works well right off the bat. This was the first issue we ran into. My wife left the room, and it wasn't until a half hour later, once I had dug my xBox 360 controllers out of the attic, that I got those charged and working and discovered they actualy worked okay.
2) Night two. Got my wife convinced to try the game again. First thing she asks is - okay, why can't I reverse the axes on my controller like you did? Turns out she can't, because she's a guest. So that sucked. Then she asks - okay, wo what's the Par on this hole? Do those seem like unreasonable questions? Rhetorical. They're perfectly reasonable. She again left the room. Can't blame her.
3) Night three. Convinced my wife to try it one last time. I had the right controllers. We discussed the no Pars thing - maybe they'd fix it in future. Surely they must. I gave her my controller so the axes wouldn't be in fighter pilot mode, or whatever . I had played some of the custom user made holes and was dying to show her some of those. They're big. They're crazy. They're challenging. They're not the nerfy little holes that come stock with the game . . . and . . . wonk, wonk, wonnnk - the custom designed courses CAN'T BE PLAYED COUCH CO-OP?? WhyTF??
So there ya have it.
Fix these three things, and I'll recommend the hell outta this game:
- Make the controllers less alienating to non-gamers - meaning put up a Steam config that works and make BOTH contollers adjustable, at the very least. (Better yet, why not just assume that video mini-golf players aren't fighter pilots with catlike reflexes? Seems a pretty safe assumption.)
- Put PARS on the holes and courses. It's minigolf, duh. That might not involve Pars in the minigolf of the future where everything is judged in Blingy Points, or whatever, but let's not get too far ahead of the species. Pars? Yes, pars. Duh.
- I had damn well better be able to play the user holes couch co-op with my squeeze, because I have to tell you the scenery and physics and everything are great, but it's the users who make the good holes. And while you're at it, we'd of course like to play user designed COURSES (course consisting of nine holes - see the section about minigolf.) If you can't play couch multiplayer - i.e. sitting on a couch playing an decently interesting round of crrrrrazy minigolf with your significant life partner, the entire point of this game goes byebye. True statement.
That's it. That's literally it. Those three tiny things, and I could recommend this game not just a little, but emphatically.
Find the guy who said controller configuration, Pars, couch multiplayer, and Favorite COURSES don't matter, and fire his ass immediately.
I mean, you had one job - port Planet Minigolf to Steam. Basically, that's all you had to do. Hell, do that - just port the old game over like Baldur's Gate , or something, and I'll pay twice as much for that.
Sheesh.
Look, I hate writing this. Hatehatehate. Just please fix those tiny little things?? Because they're not tiny. They effect the entire playing experience of the game. Just make this Super Planet Minigolf 2. Do you not see the damn DECADE of people playing Planet Minigolf? They're still playing it, right now on PS3. There are more users online playing that one than this one.
So pleasepleasepleaseplease just fix this? Can it be that hard? I hope not. I hope one guy can just go in there for half an hour and set some 0's to 1's or something. I really do.
For my own well being, I'll end on a postiive note. Plaent Minigolf on PS3 ruuuuuules. Hells yeah it does. That feels better.
A fan of Zen's Planet Minigolf on the PS3 but only found out about this after looking for other mini-golf games since playing Golf with your Friends (which is also good - you should get both!). I'm not sure why this isn't getting more attention - it's a good, solid mini-golf game with lots of options (single player, local multiplayer and online multiplayer), plenty of holes already and a really easy to use editor so anyone can create their own holes in next to no time. My kids and I had a blast playing our first couple of rounds. Even in it's current state it seems very playable and I haven't spotted any obvious bugs or flaws so far. Hopefully they can add a few more options (like stroke play and match play for instance) but even if nothing changed from now on, I'd say it looks good value for money.
