Simply does not want to display Keyboard inputs or Dualshock inputs and keeps displaying Xbox inputs, making this already difficult game more difficult.
The Game is good, don't get me wrong, but this is a deal breaker since i constantly keep forgetting what, for example, the A button is on my Keyboard and my PS4 controller.
oooooooooooooo ooooooooooo ahhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhhh.
bad fight mechanics.
you can barely expand your family.
died a thousand times.
i have ptsd from this game. everything wants to kill you.
Monkey good ... hit rock, dropp other rock, hit stick now pointy stick, Scawwy cats and birds grrrr
Look I went into this game hoping for a different experience. I hoped my play would evolve and while I didn't climb the trees as often as when i started and predators ceased to be a threat I have no idea why is the game so long or why did the creators choose to have 2/13 achevements mandated by chance. I would forgive these transgresions, but after >40h when I finally got the random mutation needed for the last achievement and as I was on the last evolutionary step before becoming a homo species - I found out I have no chance of getting it without replaying like half of the game. It was not that entertaining either. It tells a story of human evolution well in some ways, I just expected a much bigger game (and I don't mean map-wise). There was such potential and most of it was wasted on poor game design. I guess it's a good intro game for kids, but other than that it's more of a meh than anything I played recently. Mediocre game - a shame. And i think that's the main reason only 2% of people who own it ever finnished it.
The absolute joy this game gave me was insane. I agree a lot of the late game is really boring and is just a checklist to get those last achievements, the last area being especially dull and empty of anything interesting, but damn! The first and middle/early late section of the game for me was just mythical, exploring and learning new things often the hard way, wandering around constantly watching my back to make sure a predator wasn't stalking me was a surreal feeling. You could just sense something was stalking you in the long grass or waters edge and for a game to pull that off so well, for me is very impressive.
I had one white sabertooth target my family for a whole generation, it would hang out around my home and pick off my family members one by one and it wasn't until the next generation I was finally able to kill it, leaving me with a great sense of accomplishment. Dragging this spear ridden big cat down and caving it's skull in after what felt like a life time of being hunted by this beast was probably the greatest highlight for me with this game.
I was screaming like an ape behind my computer screen rejoicing in it's demise XD
Amazing game for many reasons, You don't have to follow a structure, you have to discover thing and show it to your clan members because if you eat food or drink water without them knowing if it's safe they die. You also need to piggyback children to move to the next generation or even evolve, this is because it allow you to get Neuronal energy, you have to learn a lot of thing, the game does teach you thing, mostly basics and how to do them, but you need to nearly perfect it. This is easily the best survival game. It can teach you about evolution and different stages getting closer to a human species. Although I haven't gotten even close to completing it and still learning it's soo much fun!
this is a cool game, i like the fact that it doesn't tell how to play the game or progress leaving you to actually figure it out and evolve, that's pretty cool dude.
absolutely wonderful, one of the best games i have ever played. the idea of being part of a clan, exploring Africa 10,000,000 years ago and learning and improving different skills and evolving through time into different species in our own species past. its truly amazing 10/10 would recommend.
I may have my family line die, but i am an incompetent ape after all. all negative reviews are just people with skill issue and don't understand the point. you are MENT to have a hard time early on because you are just a starting ape who doesnt know whats what yet, you learn like we humans naturally do from trial and error cmon guys lol, they did say they arent going to help you much and that is the point. you figure it out yourself like you do in reality with some minor help if you wanna look up stuff online.
In 1984, the United States of America banned the illegal use of wizard magic.
A long time ago, I saw a youtuber play this game and work their way through a major amount of the actual game, their videos seemed interesting enough so eventually I picked up the game to try myself.
Though I haven't played much of the game as of writing this review, I do intend to get into it more. The game itself is incredibly challenging at times and can often screw you over very quickly if you don't pay attention. But besides that, it's a very enjoyable game full of decision making and indirect puzzles that you discover along your path.
It's hard, yes, but fun.
A really cool idea but the controls are way too clunky and the tutorials hardly explain anything, forcing you to have to look online to figure out what the hell you're supposed to do
Fantastic gameplay, and realistic to science.
Very interesting concept and mechanics, but it seems the devs missed a few things, like ACTUALLY TESTING THE EFFING GAME. Uninstalled. Call me back when there are patches to fix the lack of status checking (thirst, hunger, etc), the lack of a "climb down from a ledge" option, the lack of a 360º view when using intelligence and senses, the lack of a decent keyboard mapping, and many, MANY other "lacks". Seriously, what were they even thinking, releasing a game in these conditions?!
Wow this game is extraordinary, I don't get why people get so mad over the starting game. Especially the combat. I'd say that's a skill issue cuz I was impaling that white bitch ass Sabre-tooth since my clan's call didn't sound like an ancient Chinese general. But aside from that just exploring and finding new cool Oasis' is so intresting and cool. Also the games easy as hell to 100%
Lacking clear instructions doesn't make your game more innovative it just annoys the player base, I like working puzzles out but give me the basics first.
Greatest open world game I've ever played, everything's so realistic and also a bit hard but with time and effort it's a nice chill game to play on an evening. Granted it's a bit confusing and complicated when you get straight into it but once you work out the controls and aspects of the game you'll have your self a nice little break from reality.
itd be cool if ya'll made a dlc or and update and each dlc or update its like a stage in life like animal to neolithic to bronze to iron to dark age to blah blah blah you know itd be like the ultimate evolution game
For someone who is a complete nerd about anthropology and human development, PLUS primates? Game made in heaven. I wish it would've expanded further, both in world-building and in the evolutionary lineage. To clarify, I had to repurchase this on PS5 because I didn't look at the specs before purchasing for PC (not compatible on my PC). It would be great on PC or PS5, either way it's immersive and unique.
The tutorial sucks, you get no info on anything that's happening and out of no where your whole clan gets one shot by a single enemy. It's ridiculous
In my entire time playing this game its been a loop of becoming overconfident and then getting humbled by an enemy and the lack of GUI was a nightmare that I put myself through
This game is definitely intimidating at first. I tried to play it for a few hours when I first bought it years ago but never got past the first few generations. You are not really told what to do and it can be confusing at times, but if you just explore a little bit and inspect everything you find you will be able to figure out what to do pretty easily. The early game is really rough and the end game is a bit boring as you are kind of just checking off boxes to finish up, but that middle ground where you haven't figured out everything yet but have gotten the ball rolling was some of the most fun I have had in a game in a long time.
This game really rewards paying attention and actually learning what things do. If you don't bother to learn what specific plants do or what specific status effects on your monkey will do to you, you will find yourself having a hard time surviving. If you do, however, pay attention, the game is pretty easy once you learn the basics.
There are definitely a few bad things about this game. The movement can be clunky at times and you might find yourself locked in the first area for a long time if you don't realize that you have to leave (Probably half my playtime is in the jungle/lake area) and there are some pretty useless mechanics. The optimal strategy (as I've found) is just to bring a hoard of monkeys everywhere you go and yell at anything that wants to eat you which can get kind of lame after a while, but the satisfaction of exploring the world and finding a new area can't be understated.
Overall its an ok game that is built on a great concept. The concept will make the experience fun if you are into the idea.
I wish there was a porn mod for this game
I keep making it fairly far into the game (12 hours or so) then it crashes. and Crashes. and crashes. I have reinstalled, tried different graphics settings, reinstalled drivers.
Game play is unique and fun- I love the atmosphere. But nothing rips you from immersion like a nice juicy crash.
Reject modernity, embrace monkey. The remembrance humanity.
i dont like thinking or remembering so this game was too hard for me, but i really enjoyed being in its environment.
By far, one of my most favorite games of all time. They give you the controls at the very beginning and never tell you what a button does ever again. On my first playthrough, I accidentally swung from branches and failed the first quicktime event against a predator and had to learn the hard way like our ancestors did (as best as you can put it in video game terms). I lost a lot of lives for a few generations, but it makes the game way more fun as you progress and actually have to learn EVERYTHING the game has you inspect.
My main complaint with the game is that there is no map, no minimap and no main map. If you want a map, youll have to draw out your own. Its a good simulator in that it forces you to live like a primitive hominid, but its just not enjoyable. Being attacked by wild cats and alligators, all you can do at first really is run up a tree. Its realistic, but again its not enjoyable. I managed to get past some missions, but the game is just too open. You really dont know what to do next. I just found myself wandering around and then I couldnt find my way back to my camp where the rest of my kin were. If you start bleeding, its hard to find the plant to stop it. Jumping from tree to tree and climbing trees is awkward too.
The game's tutorial gives you very little guidance, and you pretty much have to discover how to play on your own.
Big disappointment for me. I only played 4 hours, and if I played a lot longer I might get better at it. The only problem, its just not fun for me.
Amazing game, this is the best survival game I have played till date
What SPORE should have been. I've never played a game like this and it deserves its place as a niche classic.
Recommended. I paid full price years ago but the $40 price tag is too much unless you're looking for something that is exactly this. Truly nothing like it. Wait for a sale and have a really cool and unique experience with this game.
I want to praise this game on its intelligence and innovation and especially its atmosphere. I liked the neuronal system, and the lack of hand-holding, and the complexity of the few crafting elements in the game. I liked how you can empathise with your apes, and the beautiful scenery and feelings of threat and exploration.
That being said, the game feels wide but shallow. You can spend hours exploring and breeding and improving your apes, but it feels pointless once you've discovered the limits of the crafting and resources. I was hoping to play all the way through to homo sapiens, but the game stops just before homo erectus, and much of the neuronal development is just improving existing abilities, most of which aren't necessary. Also, we really really needed better explanations for generational and evolutionary leaps.
Really, once you've 'solved the puzzle', the game just feels like busy work, as you've got nothing left to discover. I was so disappointed by this - it feels like the start of a really great game, but not at all like a full game in itself.
Please keep making innovative games like this. This was great, but could have been incredible.
This game should be good but unfortunately it fails on a few key things. Most importantly is that it never seems to go anywhere. In this monkey walking simulator having to learn how to do things without being told to do them is a good kind of frustration but even when you figure them out it doesn't really change the gameplay. From what I've seen the only item you really need is the pointy stick everything else only serves to give you different versions of food; for which, you only need one and that is the red bush leaves. And those you can just pick off the branch. The pointy stick just helps you kill things IF you can time it right in the sequence, otherwise, its that ass.
Your companions do nothing to avoid enemies unless told too which is dumb and OK at the same time but more dumb then OK, and outside of boosting your numbers for evolution, are useless, but they act as extra lives in case your monkey gets smoked. Losing monkeys is incredibly easy. Almost my whole clan died to a single tiger that was magically able to climb a wall. I would've left it there on the ledge but another monkey got stuck there and I had to go save them, but it didn't work out like 3 times in a row.
I did enjoy the challenge but you never seem to go anywhere other than deeper into the jungle. There's no payoff other than being able to transfer mostly useless traits to your offspring and collect a lot of meaningless items. Of course, the controls for this are pretty bad especially the "jump" mechanic which is just comical at some points. Approach tree and jump and the monkey attaches itself to the bottom of the tree. What? Sucks this game threw away its potential but I think that was the intention from the beginning, so winning?
If you enjoy evolution sims, this is a really great game. It's got a steep learning curve, but that's by design. It doesn't tell you how to do much, you have to trial and error experiment just like your hominids. The climbing and jumping mechanic is surprisingly fluid and fun, and the environments are interesting and beautiful. There are some times where it can be a bit clunky, and the pairing and giving birth each generation can get tedious, but my main complain with the game is just that I wish there was more to it.
The game play mechanics are just way over complicated even on the simplest setting. As someone who does not have weeks at a time to get good at a game, it was just disappointing.
THE PERFECT game. A lot has been well-developed; it's a pity it was abandoned :(.
A really good game
the interactive and strategy of growing skills and adapting is a great way to play
very good game my favorite
cant wait one the next one
A positive review is not available in your region.
The worst PC controls of all time. Boring, hand-holdy, Ubislop-style gameplay.
monkey game, educational and fun, difficulty curve is a bit easy to get over, like defeating some larger animals with just a few sticks seems irrational, however even though im only about half way through the game has gave me its worth many times over.
Cool game to feel yourself like a surviving monkey
GO BACK I WANT TO BE MONKEY!!! Honestly i recommend it IMMENSELY! Once I figured out all the basic controls(which took a lot of getting used too) I too felt like monkey. The game world is WAAAAYYYY Bigger than i first thought or could EVER expect!! Named the big bird in the sky Frank, Killed frank before switching generations as a challenge, GO TOWARDS THE BALL OF LIGHT WHEN EVERYTHING GOES DARK!!!! I had got frustrated at this because I straight up didn't know, it EXPANDS WHERE YOU CAN GO!! The way I found out? I was streaming and a chatter(now dear friend) helped to guide me. When in doubt, never feel bad to stare at the controls or google what to do for a certain thing. Finding out yourself is awesome, but i DID accidentally fall to my death because I first didn't figure out how to swing from the leaves. All in all, a 10/10 I CHERISH THIS GAME!!!! I desprately want a remaster of this game because that would BE INSANE!!!
its really good
Utterly phenomenal game. 10/10
I remember being terrified of everything when I first started, I'd literally never leave the safety of the trees. But after a few helpful/motivational youtube videos I finally made my fist kill, and after that i just grew more and more confident. Thanks Youtube!
I definitely recommend. Monkey game very good! Yes.
Good survival game. A bit repetitive, but good.
Controls for this are genuinely infuriatingly bad. In the tutorial it will prompt you to do certain actions like "hear" or "smell" or "comfort, only to find that doing those things somehow doesn't register, and so you are just an aimless monkey with no objective, who dies easily. I really love the concept, but the execution is just completely absent. I've put this game down and picked it back up and on the 2nd time I genuinely couldn't get past the tutorial. Terribly designed.
First off: this is definitely a game made for a controller. As someone who played via keyboard and mouse, the mechanics of movement were very frustrating...enough to make me stop playing until I get a controller to play.
Besides that, this game is incredible and I loved playing it. The ability to develop, adapt, learn, and teach was very interesting to watch. To see what could potentially have been the way in which our ancestors evolved. I was learning alongside the character, making sure not to go near that dang boar again unless I could defend myself; to accurately go from tree to tree without falling; to nurturing the next generation safely.
A very fascinating game that I will replay once I remember to buy myself a dang controller!
Great game!!
