You... GAME......!
I have no qualms with anything in this episode of the series, apart from one thing...........
WTH DID YOU DO TO KAI?!
No, no, no! WHY?!
Anyway. I am over it. I rewrote it for the sake of humanity and Kai himself. Carry on. :>
(No, seriously... Everything else is fine. Just that one thing. *WAS* that one thing. Heh heh.)
At 4 hours this game is not the best value but I still have to give it an enthusiastic thumbs up. The art and animations were gorgeous but the story was the star of the show. It was presented in chapters which continued into the bonus game where there was a wonderful twist ending. The ambience was consistent throughout as well. The Hidden Object puzzles were not my favourite though. They were an assembling of parts rather than found objects. Overall, an excellent, yet short, addition to a great series.
Lovely graphics, decent story, some of the non fragmented object puzzles could get a bit tedious, but overall enjoyable.
I am a big fan of the Dark Parables series and The Thief and the Tinderbox was a pleasant surprise in the way it connected past stories and characters. Gorgeous settings and HOB scenes. Enjoy the interactivity and level of puzzles, including the souvenir puzzle in the extras section. My only disappointment was my own inability to find all the parable pieces to enjoy the story to its fullest!
great story
This game was better then the previous one. It wasnt super good but worth playing. Ther was one minigame breaking bug where i wasnt able to play the minigame and the chapter after the tindernox screen was annoying as hell because of the minigames. The bonus chapter was way too short and way too easy to play. But it was nice to have the souvenirs as references to the previous games. All in one this part is okay to play.Even though i say recommendable its no must have
Collect it but caution ending is not what you expect.
Rasputin and Kai ending?
Like: responsibility seem to theme
Dislike: they should added guardian story arc.
Personal opinion: What happened to detective? What happened to moon priest?
This game was good.
Dark Parables is one of the BEST HOP game series I have run across and by far one of the most fun. I own almost the entire collection to date and would love to continue adding to my library. Buy the bundle or when they're on sale and you will literally have HOURS of fun. Each of these games takes me roughly 6 hours. Well worth it!
This is Dark Parables #12, continuing a gorgeous and impeccably produced series. However, once again you won't be floored by the thin story. At least this time I could actually follow the narrative. There was a thief and he stole the tinderbox and then things got bad. Got it?
Also, oddly, though Dark Parables #11 had Steam-linked achievements, the first in the series, this game doesn't. #11 might have been a one-off.
i love this game series. its amazing.
I love all the hidden object games that Big Fish Games published there so much fun
It's a really good story, the graphics are great, the music is pretty good.
But there's a game breaking bug halfway through Chapter 6, so I can't recommend it.
Dark Parables #12. A series of fragmented object games with puzzles and stories that each stand alone, but are also interconnected in the form of recurring characters. But each game tells its own story and they can technically be played in any order.
HOWEVER, this is probably the only DP game where I would strongly recommend you play two other games before this one. First, play DP #3 (Snow Queen) and then DP #7 (Rapunzel) -- including the bonus games. This story is basically a continuation of those games, and has most of the same cast of characters.
Like all the newer DP games, this has fast travel. There are also achievements within the game, though they don't show up on Steam. There are collectibles that unlock lore. It also has a bonus adventure.
Short version: 63%
On its own, The Thief and the Tinderbox is a decent fragmented objects game with an interesting story and mediocre gameplay. However, it does not fit the series as a whole, and it never bothers to even try.
Long version:
If you are here to see if this casual game would suit you, then as long as you enjoy good enough fragmented object games, it will. It is not exactly based on a parable we are dealing with the evil sorcerer Rasputin and his strange relation to fairy tale character… Still, the pacing is good, and the story has some nice ideas.
If you play this game as your twelfth Dark Parables though, then I will hardly surprise you when I say that it does not fit the lore. Heck, it does not even have a single thief in it! It just does its own things without ever caring about the series.
Well, at least, in the end, the story is enjoyable; I just wish the gameplay would share these characteristics. The point-and-click segments are delightfully tame, and the puzzles are okay, despite one of them appearing nearly half a dozen times. The fragmented object scenes, however, are very hit and miss. Some are almost insultingly easy, others are endless hunts for tiny hard-to-describe parts on a monochrome dark scene.
not the ebst, but also not the worst one in the series
I enjoyed this game a lot... toward the end, I was looking at the guide fairly often, though. It seems our Detective is also completely knowledgeable about alchemy, metallurgy and sorcery... the steps necessary for the story to progress did not seem at all obvious or even just hidden... they were baffling.
Mind you, I did enjoy following the "recipes" needed, but if I hadn't had the guide, I would have been really floundering around without a clue as to what I should do next. Through pure trial and error and clicking on every little thing, I probably could have progressed, but it would have taken much, much, much longer than the 6 or 7 hours I spent on it.
Still, as I said, I enjoyed it and will check out others in this series. The HOSs were sometimes pretty difficult, but I do wear glasses & found myself leaning into the monitor trying to pick out the differences between what may have been a piece I needed or what was just background.
Ok game!!!!!
nice game, lovely artwork music was chill and the voice acting was ok. enjoyed the puzzles they were interesting.
Another good game in this series.
Honestly, this series is worth getting as a whole: lovely art, increasingly excellent music, increasingly interesting puzzles (more variety than I've seen in many or most HOG / Adventure games), and a true sense of continuity despite the fractured nature of fairy tales (and these fairy tales in particular).
The puzzles continue to be solid and enjoyable, which follows on from the previous game.
The Detective continues to be dashing, intelligent, wise, and compassionate.
The tie-in back to the Snow Queen is well done--if you can, play these games in order!
Oh - the collectibles object is an apple this time and SO MUCH easier to find. Almost too easy, now that I've been trained with snowflakes (white on grey/brown/greyish brown) and acorns (honestly, a few times I just clicked a lot and hoped).
Cons: The "parable piece" / morphing object is too difficult to find. It isn't fun when you can't see more than a sparkle. (On the bright side, the mechanism for finding missing collectibles or parable pieces is excellent. You probably won't miss collectibles in this game other than by inadvertence, however.)
I'm not a huge fan of some of the voice acting, but I prefer a more British or European accent for English.
Bottom line: 9/10 (or thereabouts - point is, it's a good game, and you'll probably get an even better deal with a discount)
Ok game. But maybe too expensive. Many minigames I didnt even understand what I should do in them.
