Описание

Woken from a hypersleep, you find yourself alone on a drifting star cruiser, light years from home. The crew has disappeared, leaving behind nothing but a few scattered records and a strange artifact that seems to hold the key to an alien civilisation. As you search the empty ship, you’ll begin to piece together the mystery of the missing crew, and perhaps a way to unlock the artifact itself.

Played out in stunning 3D environments, The Artifact is a sci-fi themed spin on the classic escape the room game. Players explore different locations, using 22nd century technology to crack codes and solving increasingly head scratching puzzles that will help decipher the mystery of the alien device, and perhaps what lies beyond...

Key Features

* Beautiful 3D environments – explore the decks of your star cruiser, breaking open air hatches and exploring different areas…

* Head-scratching puzzles – use logic and experimentation to figure out how to break into the alien artefact…

* Immersive story – explore the ship for notes and documents that reveal the mystery of the missing crew. And why you’ve been left behind…

Very short - only took me 35 minutes. The puzzles were adequate. Not overly challenging, but at least not in any way grindy.

Shame about the price. Don't buy it unless it's on one of its usual 90%-off sales. The base price is absurd. The discounted price of €1/US$1 is fair.

About an hour's worth of game, very simple puzzles but great visuals. Awkward controls, but not so much it's unplayable. Had one instance where the UI stopped responding. There also doesn't seem to be an option to quit from menu, I had to close it from the taskbar. Still, not a bad experience. It would be just about worth the asking price, but you might want to wait for a sale.

It's a nice enough The Room clone (down to the lens you use to uncover special objects), but very easy and faar to short for the price, under £1 would be more appropriate.
Can't honestly recommend it the way it is now.

The Artifact is a clone of The Room series in all aspects other than setting (and production quality) that's very rough around the edges and overall not very good.

Its biggest problem is that there's not enough of it... I feel like I could forgive the quality if it gave me a little more to play with, literally, but the game ended abruptly right as it started feeling mysterious and a little engaging. The playtime at the time of the review is a little under 50 minutes, and that was enough to complete the game start to finish, "hints off," including time wasted wrestling with the controls. Speaking of which, you'll often click on the interface (no keyboard shortcuts as far as I can tell to activate the eye or go back) only for it not to register, or sometimes the click will register both as "move here" and the button activation.
There's a very limited number of puzzles which don't really bring much new to the table: slide this, click that, read this code and input over it there, a pipe puzzle, a matching puzzle... All very simple, fairly streamlined, but most of all, too short.

So, yeah. Avoid unless you're absolutely starving for any The Room-like experience, like I was, I suppose. But even then, it may leave a bad aftertaste once you're done.

This is a very short sci-fi puzzle game in which the player wakes from a 'sleep' on a spaceship and wants to determine where the rest of the crew have gone. It is relaxing, the puzzles are logical and did not have any issues for me. I bought this on sale - I do not remember the price but I am glad I bought the game.

I would have liked a little more ending - I can't say how because that may be a spoiler.

The Artifact is a rudimentary effort in every possible way.

Sometimes I ignore mixed reviews and mistakenly think "meh, this could be alright". Erm, well...

I came here looking for more escape the room ingenuity after finishing The Room Three, expecting the sci-fi setting might be a welcome change of pace. On that front, it is, but everything else is a major downgrade.

The game welcomes you with a blurry Earth graphic and low budget VFX. Soon you'll be clicking anywhere and the game will often send you elsewhere. Very unintuitive navigation made this a pain to go through. Clicking on a holographic computer screen goes right through it (you must click its base), while activating the UI overlays also counts as a movement click and sends you to another position.

Add to this bland, repetitive ambient music, blocky shadows worthy of gaming circa 2007, absurdly simple puzzles and hardly any narrative elements laid over 4 very short chapters, and you've got very little room left to appreciate the adequate but generic sci-fi environments.

There's no quit button here folks – you must ALT-F4 yourself out of this one, or better yet spend your leisure time elsewhere.

Very short "escape room" game with relatively easy puzzles. You basically drag and drop objects, rotate them, slide something open and that's it. Locations involve spaceship, alien planet surface and one other area. Recommended only if on sale.

What is "The Artifact"?

An artifact is something that usually is ancient or holy and serves a purpose that isn't obvious. Not to be confused with a Valve game of a similar name, "The Artifact" is a Unity Engine point and click first person adventure. Now I didn't play "Myst" or its series much, but the perspective and gameplay are likely similar. So let us dive right into the analysis.

Story: There is unfortunately not much story. It is set two centuries in the future. You awake on a spaceship, from your cryo-sleep. Your crew - apparently except two people who are still in cryo-sleep and can't be woken up - has gone missing. At least you don't see anyone around on board. Soon you discover that the crew of your ship "Intrepid" was analyzing a myserious artifact. Naturally, you try to unlock its powers, aided by a bio-enhancement that lets you see hidden things but is used only for a few puzzles.

Gameplay: The gameplay is that of a "Myst" like point and click adventure. You move and interact with the mouse. There is exactly one inventory slot that you use at any given time (except in chapter 3), as there is only one item necessary at any point - so this is not an artificial limitation, it is just natural during gameplay. I encountered one bug that made the game unplayable after I clicked too quickly apparently, but that was not an issue, as the game is divided in four "chapters" which are unlocked during play. I got stuck in chapter 2 due to the bug (it somehow "zoomed" me out to one location where I shouldn't have been inside the room, so I couldn't interact with anything). Restarting from the chapter beginning... well, nothing was really lost and it took only a few seconds to return to where I was. The game is autosaved in addition to this, but thanks to the chapters being pretty short, even if you encounter a bug, even a gamebreaking one, you don't really lose progress. I encountered a situation shortly afterwards that looked like a bug - a thing that I tried to open had the "door" stuck halfway through and I couldn't see important information - but that was actually part of the puzzle design. So just that info here, that is not a bug if you get to that point in chapter 2. In any case, the chapters are rather short, and for an experienced player it takes maybe 30-45 minutes to beat the game. See below at the "Recommended" section.
One thing that I have to criticize about the gameplay is that you must open the door at the beginning by sliding it. While this is indicated, it could have been made a bit more obvious. But sliding something open shows you that the mouse can be used in that way to interact with objects. You can only interact in a specific order with objects to solve the puzzles, but there is nothing you can do wrong, i.e. no way to mess up. So once you got out of the cryo-sleep, you understand how to control the game.

Graphics: The graphics aren't spectacular, but they aren't bad either. For a rather small development team they are nicely done, the atmosphere of the game is one thing that really holds up. They look a bit dated at first, but in a way that could be seen as a stylistic choice, like mid-2000s FPS games. Maybe just the spaceship is a clean environment, there isn't any dust or something gathering. Look at the screenshots to understand what I mean. They have that "adventure style" with beautifully crafted lighting that enhances the visuals. While being a bit sterile, the nicely drawn shadows always make the scenes look well. The ending (I try to avoid spoilers here) uses the lighting to create a very fitting atmosphere for what happens.

Sound: The music and sound are nicely crafted as well, they never become annoying and never sound out of place. However, due to the nature of the game and the story, the sounds are very much limited to the interactions you make throughout the story. The music is not memorable, but also never puts itself in the foreground, i.e. never distracts you from solving puzzles.

Controls: The game is entirely controlled with the mouse, except for one part at the very end of the game - after finishing it. The main menu, at least in fullscreen mode, has no way of exiting it. So you must press Alt+F4 to exit the game.

Summary: All in all, "The Artifact" is a rather short first person adventure game with easy puzzles and a story that leaves open some questions. It would have worked as a short story as well, but the adventure format lets you have around 45 minutes of gameplay with easy unmissable 100 percent achievements (when you finish the game). All achievements are story achievements. The chapter select and autosave make the game never drag out even if you encounter a bug. Lost progress can be replayed in a matter of seconds to one or two minutes. You spend more time actually solving puzzles than executing the solution (if you include looking for items as part of puzzle solving).

Despite the enthusiasm I seem to have, I actually found the game too short, the puzzles are fairly easy, but it is short enough to not get boring. If the game would be longer, at some point it likely would feel more like a chore. But at where it is now, that point was not yet reached, and double the content would have been good in my opinion. But the developer made sure to not add any moon logic puzzles, to not drag it out, to just make a short and concise experience that is worth playing through once, but only once.

As I count "1 Euro per hour" as reasonable - in most cases, at least, there ARE exceptions like Skyrim where I wouldn't pay over a thousand Euro - the sale price of 79 Eurocents is the reasonable one. I apologize to the developer and his friends who surely put effort into the game, but it is in my opinion too short. So I can only recommend buying it on a 90 percent sale. That said, when you buy it for that price, you get an adventure that is worth that price, at least if you look for a short first person point and click adventure to spend under an hour on for 100 percent achievements. For lack of a neutral option, as the game is not bad but IMO not worth the normal asking price, I give it a positive review.
(Note that one reviewer compares it to "The Room" series on Steam, saying it is not as complex but feels similar. As I didn't play those games yet, I can't confirm or deny this, but it might be interesting for someone who did.)

Length: 30-45 minutes
Achievement difficulty: All achievements are story achievements. No missable or optional ones, but also no achievement spam.

Recommended: On a 90 percent sale or in a bundle. Note that the game is "hit or miss", so I can't give a definitive recommendation for or against it. You might find it too short or too easy.

The Artifact is a very short puzzle game where you wake up out of hyper-sleep and find that something has happened. It's up to you so save the day.

Pros:
Graphics are well done
Simple controls
A few puzzles to solve
Pleasant atmosphere

Cons:
Puzzles are fairly simple
Very small areas to explore
Inverted movement and no way to change it
The game is too short for the money they want

The graphics in this game are fairly good and the atmosphere is descent. A relaxing game if you have a hour to kill. Unfortunately, that's all the time you'll kill playing this game because it's so short. In addition, the puzzles are a bit simplistic and areas where you can explore are fairly small.

When I started playing it, it seemed like the developers were trying to mimic The Room with puzzle boxes. That didn't last though and it quickly changed over to 2010 The year we make contact. There are even a couple lines right out of that movie and of course, the monolith. Now when I say “lines” I mean text because there are no voice actors in this game, just text.

At the time of this review, The Artifact was selling for $7.99. That is insane considering how short this game is. I only played it for about an hour and I was done. However, I bought this game during the summer sale when it was 90% off so I only paid 79 cents for it. So DO NOT buy this game at full price, wait for a sale.

Beat the game in 40 minutes. Most of that time is due to slow controls of point and click, then wait while the game slides you there. Actual gameplay time is 20 to 30 minutes if don't count the time spent sliding from point a to point b.

The Puzzles where not difficult, with the solutions being shown right infront of you?

I wouldn't recommend it. 4 easy levels.

After beating the game I noticed I had hints on, but the game was so easy I don't think it would have taken much longer even if I had noticed it before and turned it off.

Cool game idea that would need more levels and harder puzzles and better story.

For 80 cents its almost worth it.

I was disappointed by how short this game was and how easy the puzzles were. It's definitely beautiful and has the potential of a really interesting story within it. However a lot of the puzzles were simply too easy to classify as puzzles.
As other people have said at full price it's not worth the money, thankfully I got this in a Humble Bundle as I'd have been annoyed as opposed to just disappointed otherwise.
On the other hand if you want a short, relaxing and beautiful casual puzzle experience, this is an excellent game for that situation. It feels like a very polished University project, which if that's what it is the creators have done very well.

I'll just heads up this review that I did get this on sale, At -90% sale I thought I'd keep the game, otherwise I'd have refunded it within the first half hour. I would be very disappointed if I had purchased this when I initially saw it.

I thought this was going to be very immersive, nice spaceship style Myst with a helping of The Room thrown in for good measure. Unfortunately it's not what I got, and nor will you get. Instead it's a very well done, very basic puzzle game that tries to do the flip open box, twist the nob and look through an eye gadget experience that The Room provides.

Side note: If you are looking for something more along the lines of The Room (based on other reviews so far), do try the likes of The House of Da Vinci for a fuller featured experience.

The first thing that worried me was the "Made with Unity Personal Edition" I don't mind indie games, they're mostly what I play but it doesn't inspire confidence at the price they're marketing the game at. The graphics from the menus are poor at best, clearly taken from some mobile port and the menu and navigation interface show too. As seen in the screenshots on the store page, it has the mobile burger type menu at the top Left, and classic android styled back buttons... something you'll have to get used to clicking if you've not got a touch screen device.

There is no right mouse button to move back a section in the game play, thus there is a lot of mouse movements that just down right makes the game not enjoyable when you make a mistake clicking trying to find an area that activates.

The puzzle graphics are nicer than I expected, if not a little overly simplified, much like the puzzles themselves, but that charm seems to carry on throughout the game. The story was near non-existent and just didn't going into the second chapter. The first chapter was over with in about 10 minutes, so it didn't really get off to a good start.

However, there aren't many of these types of games... or rather, at least enough of them about so it's nice to see someone taking a shot at it, and if they could just fix a few things so it didn't feel like a super bad port of a mobile app, it probably wouldn't be that bad for someone just starting out in this genre.

The game recently got steam trading cards, and there are achievements that are easy enough to get just playing the game through. I would say, if you can get it on sale, and enjoy these types of games, grab it. It won't take you long to finish it so do price that into your purchase decision. No reply value in this game at all.

★ — 2/10 - Too pricey for what it has to offer.

Being a fan of puzzle games, I was looking forward to playing The Artifact as it claimed to have a beautiful 3D environment, head-scratching puzzles, and an immersive story but unfortunately, none of those claims were actually met.

I think it's obvious that a lot of the inspiration for The Artifact came from the "The Room" game series (which is hands down one of my favorite puzzle game series ever) but it feels a lot less polished and plays a lot more clunky. While the environment sure is a 3D environment, I feel like there are too little things in too much open space. Yes, I do understand that it's supposed to be a space station but with only a very limited number of interactable objects and only a couple of puzzles in each room, it makes the world feel empty.

The puzzles were a complete let-down for me as they were far from head-scratching, the contrary, they were way too easy and straight-forward which is probably why it only took me 42 minutes to complete the entire game. Maybe, someone who doesn't play a lot of puzzle games might have a harder time figuring some things out but in general, I feel that the longer playtimes I've seen other people have only come from letting the game run to get all the cards.

As for the immersive story, I can't say that that's what I would call it. If I had to use a word for it, I'd probably say it was bland and not very interesting. Of course, not everything you do in a game needs to have a purpose but when a game claims to have an immersive story, I definitely expect more than what was presented in The Artifact, especially considering the money they ask for it.

If someone is interested in buying The Artifact because they love puzzle games then all I can say is to wait for it to be on sale for 90% off and definitely don't expect too much going into this game.

The Artifact is a puzzle game, i could compare it to The Room series.

The game itself is ok, it takes max 1 hour to finish it, so its a very short one and pretty overpriced compared to The Room games, not even to mention that those are longer and more complicated, this one is a bit way too straightforward.

The Game is recommended, its fun if you like such games, but i wouldnt recommend for full price.

On sale i bought for 0,79eur on steam, i can recommend for that price, its within my 1eur/1hour for video games entertainment price range.

Hey, iam an achievement hunter!

Unmissable achievements, all awarded for progression on the story. Perfection time: max 1 hour

This is an The Room inspired enjoyable puzzle game. puzzles are nor easy neither difficult and there is auto save. controls just like The Room games, Click an object or position to move towards it. Graphics looks decent and sci fi atmosphere immersive. unfortunately game is too short and there is no exit button so you will have to Ctrl + F4 or otherwise force close when done. Overall if you like The Room games, you re gonna like this one, too.

Recommend: Yes.
Especially if you enjoy The Room series.

The Artifact is a quick game, about 1 hour or even less for the savvy puzzle solver. Once I got into the 2nd room it made me think of The Room series of games. While this one was not as challenging it was still very enjoyable to go through and I would love to see these developers create more of the same concept.

As such a short game there is not much to say without spoilers. But it should be noted that you use the mouse to look around, and click and drag to work the mechanics. And your progress is automatically saved just be sure you click Continue versus New Game on the main screen if you exit.

The only problem i ran into while playing was in Chapter 3, there is a puzzle before the end of the game and after moving the first object the game froze. I couldn't click anything leaving me to Alt + F4. I was careful to click on Continue when i relaunched the game and it picked up right where i left off.

In closing.
Here's a guide to 100% the game. Most will probably get through the game without the need for help, but what might be easy for one person, isn't always for another.

A very short (took me 37 minutes, I am used to puzzle games) but enjoyable game.

This may be a good introduction for people who haven't got a whole lot of experience with puzzle solving type games yet, and since it is perfectly harmless and requires little specific knowledge, it is suitable for players of all ages, too.

If the developers ever wish to spend some more time on it, I think there is room to give the artifacts some more elaborate designs with more detail, they seem a bit simple the way they are - like functional placeholders - but work as basic gameplay elements.
