I enjoy games like this where its haunted operating systems and whatnot games like kinito or 98xx. the thing is that this game is barely a horror game. this game has at most 3 scares and thats not even getting to the extremely underwhelming plot. a computer virus that makes you kill yourself just isnt interesting. some of the story beats seem like they were gonna be cool but then its always just reading and reading and reading. not to mention the autopsy photo. its never able to grip the player cause it never seems to try and the abysmal pacing dosent help. i spent most of the game waiting for the narrator to respond in the chatbox that or trying to figure out the very confusing puzzles involving links (that you cant copy. twice) or trying to listen to audio files i had to download that are nearly completely un-intelligible to what has got to be the worst puzzle ive seen in a game ever.
the longitude latitude puzzle. you have to go to google maps and get the position of ONE EXACT POINT. you will not want a walk through you will NEED ONE. if you dont work with the fbi and know how to crack the zodiac killers letters you will be infinetly lost in this 1 hour slog. it made 40 minutes feel like 40 days. not even worth the 2 dollars that were stolen away from me when i was mind controlled into thinking this would be a good game. id recommend using that 2 dollars to buy a knife from dollar tree and plunge it into your leg because then you'll already be feeling more than this game will make you feel.
there is so little in this game that without the waiting you could prob beat this entire game in 15 minutes. there is ONE redeeming qua;ity about this game and that is that it can be refunded after you beat it cause the game can be beat in less than 1 hour long. dont waste your time and buy a gumball with that pocket change
the virus kinda bad lowkey
I generally try to be kind to indie games, and particularly stuff that wants to try something new. However, this game just shows a distinct lack of foresight, a lack of interest in following through with the premise, and a lack of overall care for the player.
The entire game is paced by responding to an NPC sending you messages. However, these messages take far, far longer than they should to arrive, and often just stop without a clear reason for why until you complete relatively arbitrary tasks. Sometimes these tasks are fine, like open the file he directed you to, or search for a specific term. Other time, you have to complete about a dozen steps before anything will respond again. If you encounter any trouble during any of these steps, things just won't continue, and you won't have any guidance for what you need to do. Since this game is also rather opaque, it's a coin flip whether it's intended for you to feel lost, or if the dev just didn't see any issues with the expected process. This game has no accommodations for accessibility issues, and so any issues with hearing or sight will likely just lock you out of progression until you look up additional information.
Along with that, there's a large number of links and files you need to access outside the game, including some from, as other people have said, services that have since been closed down or have had the files removed, or their operation is now different from how they're described in the game. While I didn't have any issues with sorting through this, the fact that someone less computer literate and willing to troubleshoot what should be a fun experience will just be stopped cold is a pretty serious flaw.
Then, of course, there's the simple UI issues. Despite this supposedly being a new, in-development OS, you can only have two active windows at a time, and one of those is always the chat window. You also can't move the windows at all, despite them having a UI similar to Windows 95 or so, so you can't refer to a window if it's underneath your current one. If you want to open additional windows, you need to close out everything in order to open the new one. Since a good bit of this game is bouncing around between different programs, this leads to a lot of needing to either note things outside the game, or just bounce back and forth between the two programs in-game until you get all the info written. All of this wouldn't be unforgivable if the rest of the experience was cleaner, but it's just another annoyance alongside everything else.
And perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the whole experience is that you can guess the overall plot pretty much as soon as you start. You may not get the precise beats, but if you like other ARGs, you'll likely figure out what's going on very quickly, and then just be going through the motions to see the execution. And, well, the execution isn't great. Largely, it feels like the dev had one scene they wanted to make a game around, and then just put down enough events that the scene could come out without being called a non-sequitur.
Overall, if you like horror ARGs and don't mind lackluster framing, this might be enjoyable for its price. But you should certainly be aware of the issues and limitations you'll be working through before heading in.
