Is Haydee a Game Worth Experiencing?
Haydee is an undeniably unique and challenging puzzle-platformer that offers a minimalist experience. With its intricate puzzles, grueling difficulty, and retro-inspired design, it’s a game that appeals to a niche audience. It may not be for everyone, especially casual players, but it does manage to stand out in a sea of games that often rely on hand holding and simplified mechanics. If you’re someone who enjoys challenging games that push you to figure out the world for yourself, this one could be a rewarding experience. The game’s focus on clever puzzles and exploration over narrative and flashy combat is something that might be appreciated by players who enjoy older games with a similar style.
Puzzle-Exploration with Little Guidance
At its core, Haydee is a puzzle-exploration game with platforming elements. You’ll spend much of your time solving puzzles, unlocking keycards, and progressing through the game’s various areas. The game doesn’t hold your hand—it throws you into a cold, labyrinthine world with minimal explanation, forcing you to figure things out on your own. It’s this “hands-off” approach that some players will find refreshing. The satisfaction of solving a complex puzzle and gaining access to new areas is something that’s largely lost in modern gaming, where tutorials and guides are constantly present. The sense of discovery and accomplishment is one of the game’s most rewarding aspects.
That said, while this method can be fun, it can also be incredibly frustrating. The puzzles themselves are often cryptic and require a fair amount of trial and error to solve. Without guidance, it’s easy to become stuck, and the lack of hints or direction can feel punishing at times. The labyrinthine structure of the game only adds to this feeling of being lost. While some players might relish in the challenge of navigating this world, others will quickly grow tired of wandering aimlessly, especially if they’re not immediately rewarded for their efforts. In the end, while the lack of hand holding is a feature for some, it’s a design choice that could turn off players who prefer more structured gameplay.
The Backtracking Issue
One of the biggest issues with Haydee is the extensive backtracking. The game’s world is large and expansive, but the lack of fast travel or meaningful shortcuts means you’ll often be retracing your steps over and over. Initially, this can be somewhat tolerable, as exploring the different areas of the game and solving puzzles is interesting and rewarding. However, as you get further into the game, the constant backtracking becomes more of a chore. You’ll find yourself redoing the same routes multiple times, just to progress to a new area or collect a needed item. This can take away from the sense of accomplishment and make the game feel like a grind.
The repetitive nature of the environments also contributes to this issue. Many areas feel similar in design, and after a while, they start to blend together. The game’s lack of variety in locations further exacerbates the problem. Without new, engaging environments to explore, the backtracking becomes more tedious and less enjoyable. For some players, this could be a dealbreaker, while others may find it just part of the challenge. However, it’s clear that the game could have benefited from a better system to streamline exploration, like faster travel or shortcuts, to reduce the overall time spent retracing your steps.
Limited Enemy Variety and Combat
Another area where Haydee stumbles is in its combat mechanics. The game only features two types of enemies—the slow-moving walkers and the faster, more aggressive slashers. These limited enemy types lead to predictable encounters, and once you’ve encountered both, there’s little variety left in terms of enemy behavior. The combat itself becomes repetitive, as there’s no real strategy needed to defeat them—simply dodge or shoot. The enemies lack the complexity that would make each encounter feel unique or exciting, which detracts from the overall experience. This lack of variety makes the already sparse combat sections feel less engaging and more like a filler to break up the puzzle-solving.
Additionally, the game doesn’t offer much in terms of weapon upgrades or customization. You’ll find some basic weapons, but there’s no meaningful way to enhance or modify them. There’s no attachment system, no customization options, and no way to make combat feel fresh as you progress. Imagine if you could find different parts to modify your gun, such as scopes, lasers, or flashlights—this would have added some variety and incentivized exploration. Instead, combat feels like a necessary evil to progress through the puzzles, rather than an exciting aspect of the game. A bit more depth in combat and weapon variety would have made the game feel more rewarding.
The Dark Zone Softlock
One particularly frustrating aspect of Haydee is the Dark Zone, a late-game area that can result in a softlock if you're not careful. As you near the end of the game, you’ll need to use an elevator to access different levels. However, if you forget to return the elevator back to Level A before leaving to retrieve the orange keycard, you can become trapped and unable to progress. This situation can be a huge setback, especially if you haven’t created a recent save, and it can result in a lot of wasted time.
The developers have stated that they don’t plan to “fix” this issue, explaining that players should have been smart enough to save before entering the Dark Zone. While this design choice fits with the game’s overall theme of brutal difficulty and trial-and-error gameplay, it can feel unnecessarily punishing. Being trapped in the Dark Zone with no way to proceed can feel like a cruel mistake on the game’s part, especially when the solution is something as simple as remembering to use the elevator. This design choice adds an extra layer of frustration, and while it’s not a game-breaking issue, it certainly detracts from the overall experience.
Story and Endings: Minimalist and Underwhelming
On the story front, Haydee doesn’t offer much. There are three possible endings, but none are particularly groundbreaking or emotionally impactful. The game doesn’t provide much context or backstory about the world or its characters, which leaves the player to fill in the blanks. The minimalist narrative approach fits with the overall aesthetic of the game, but it can also leave players feeling unsatisfied. The absence of a rich story or meaningful context makes the endings feel somewhat hollow, and after completing the game, you’re left with little more than a sense of accomplishment without any deeper payoff.
The three endings don’t do much to elevate the experience. They are relatively simple, with minimal variations that don’t provide much in the way of narrative closure or intrigue. If you were hoping for an emotional or thought-provoking resolution, you’ll likely be disappointed. The game focuses much more on gameplay mechanics and puzzle-solving than on offering a compelling narrative. For those who prefer games with a strong story element, Haydee’s minimal approach may feel lacking, leaving the player wishing for more depth.
Conclusion: A Niche Experience, But Not For Everyone
Haydee is a game that offers a unique experience, particularly for those who enjoy tough puzzle-solving and exploration, but it isn’t without its flaws. Its minimalist approach to narrative and gameplay will appeal to players who appreciate a challenge and aren’t afraid to get lost in its labyrinthine world. The puzzles are rewarding, and the sense of discovery can be satisfying for those who stick with it. However, the game’s extensive backtracking, limited enemy variety, and lack of combat depth may deter more casual players, and the issues with the Dark Zone and the softlock
Pretty cool game
Both Haydee and Haydee 2 are seriously great games that are hard to recommend because of the obviously sexual nature of the design of Haydee herself.
This sexualization does drive the overall style of the game and its graphics, but behind all of this there is a seriously well designed puzzle platformer that feels extremely rewarding to play.
The clunky, slow nature of the character movements contrasted with the lightning fast movement of the enemies, the constant feeling that you are low on health and ammo and the disorienting, maze-like nature of the level design keeps me coming back to play this every now and then when I forget how some of the puzzles work.
If you want to buy for the booty, go ahead, but there is much more to this series.
Pros:
+ Zero hand holding in maze-like enviorement
+ No autosave feature, so deaths can be punishing if you're not careful and plan ahead.
+ Metroidvania like progression (new items/gadgets unlock new areas)
+ Enviorements are dull, just color coded zones, but for an indie game the lighting is well made.
+ 'Plot' & mods
Cons:
- No item descriptions what so ever. (I'm aware this contradicts how I like there's no hand holding, but just basic item description would have been nice)
- Platforming can be tedious with how janky the controls are.
- Some well hidden insta-kill mines
- Those endings are...well...there.
Verdict:
I pretty much bought this game few years back because of the 'plot', but after playing for a while it turned out that there's a decent game underneath it. I actually bought the game few years back, but never finished it back then for some reason.
It's not perfect by any means; the controls are janky at best and the 3rd person camera can cause headache how zoomed in it is. And its frustrating as hell when you lose your focus and die to some random thing (mines, ambush, poorly made jump) and haven't saved for a while and lose minutes of progression. Platforming itself is also kind of janky and sometimes I even wished there was less of it.
But overall, despite the obvious fanservice, it's a decent puzzle-shooter-platforming-metroidvania styled 3rd person game, if you can forgive it for its janky controls.
good plot
Clank Clank Clank Clank
THIS GAME IS FANTASTIC. I WONT EVER STOP PLAYING. WHENEVER IM BORED I COME BACK TO THIS GAME BECAUSE IT SO GOOD.
It's such an amazing symbol for visual 3D modeling of the Human sexualization bodies !
Portal sexualization version.
This game is hard and so am I
Dark souls type shit
but nice booba
Hardcore Metroidvania that requires trial and error but is extremely satisfying to progress in. Only two enemy types but the placements of which are used in interesting/strategic ways to prevent encounters from feeling repetitive. Exploration is rewarded by the various different items and loot found throughout. Difficult, yet every death feels like the players mistake and not the game just being unfair.
also haydee's cute so 10/10
its a challenge and makes you think

Yee
AWFUL
Controls aren't told to you. There is a section in the start where you have to drop down onto a ledge, no button prompt, no guide/tutorial, nothing. Its not obvious how to get the character to do this, so you end up dropping off a bunch of times. When you die, you have to restart from the begging. Painful waste of time.

Bad and unintuitive
Прикольно, я думал кроме модельки тут вообще ничего не будет, но лазить и исследовать комплекс мне понравилось
the time has come and so have I
I'll laugh last 'cause I die
(Steam Deck is broken in terms of lighting I guess? Haven't seen anyone else mention it so it might be a Me problem but it's worth pointing out.)

Haydee is one of my favorite games now. I've beat 2 and halfway through 1. These games are so dang addicting and satisfying once you have those ah ha moments and can progress further. Cannot wait for Haydee 3, that will be a pre order for me. Hope it comes out before the end of the year. Long live haydee games
I haven't gotten past the first save room. Not because of puzzles or the enemy. All i need is the first save room
Haydee 8/10
A surprisingly competent game for an indie developer. Pure gameplay, exceptional atmosphere, peculiar music and Voluptuous heroine. The game will often remind the player that it is a "You problem" not a poor game design choice. Recommended for the true gamers.
I lost my chance to enjoy sexual pleasure with the opposite gender
WoW
Less horney and more focused on killing your own kind and trying not to go ape shit over one singular door. mods make it more entertaining than it already is.
I can't play it only using one hand still a 5/5
Despite certain obvious character design choices making this game look like a pr0n game (and the countless costume mods that can turn it into one), Haydee is actually a hardcore Metroidvania-style game combining the aesthetic from Portal, a limited inventory and save system à la early Resident Evil, the third-person camera of Resident Evil 4, and the precision platforming of early Tomb Raider. It's also very tough.
Unfortunately, it isn't the Dark Souls kind of tough, but rather the NES-era kind of tough, where layer upon layer of bollocks make sure that the only way to progress is to inch your way through trial-and-error after trial-and-error until you simply memorise your way to victory through endless repetition. The camera constantly prioritising giving you a good look of the character's behind rather than allowing you to see what you're actually shooting at doesn't help.
And this is why I can't recommend it at all.
Being lost and clueless in a maze-like samey environment I can handle. Smashing my head on tough puzzles I can handle. Managing a limited inventory and saving system I can handle. But losing half an hour of progress AGAIN because of yet ANOTHER bs slasher ambush out of nowhere FOR THE THIRD TIME THIS SESSION is taking a bit too much piss for my liking.
Frankly, as a 33-year-old with a family, a house, and commitments, I don't have the time for that.
I guess what I'm saying is, I can handle either the systematic care of the limited saves and inventory, OR the bs enemies gangbanging you to death out of nowhere every few steps, but not both at the same time. And I have trouble imagining how one might.
How does a game with combat so hard and unbalanced, so hardcore on survival elements, so picky on deadly jumping platforms, so cryptic on puzzles and secrets, so unforgiving when dying and saving your game... How can a game like that be so beloved?
Big ass and big tits. Jiggle physics and wet skin. Mods for adding different waifus. A big emphasis on satisfying the male heterosexual player, and the lovers of the mature female figure. An emphasis on satisfying us, the target audience (opposite to the "modern audience").
The entertainment starts with Haydee's poses and camera angles, this is eyecandy for us. But entertainment doesn't end with Haydee.
The narrative is developed through environmental scenes and sequences. There's not a single line of dialog, but by the end of the game you will understand how much potential for a large story this fantasy world has. This a factory with dark, mysterious motives, sterile hazardous environments; not appropriate for humans, but instead for robots and love dolls.
With environments of clean white walls, colored pipes, games of light and shadow, an a cake; an apparently abandoned sci fi factory. So apparently abandoned by Aperture Science.
There's a silent urge from me, and likely as well from the developers, to have Haydee adopted by Valve as their signature character for adult games in honor to Valve's support of porn games in their store. Haydee developers seem to love Valve's Portal, and I wish Valve is fully aware of Haydee's cues from them.
If you're tough enough to decide play this, you will probably need this guide. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1170474947
Thank you for the experience, Haydee Interactive.
This is like resident evil, but horny (also, belive me that this game is very hard and im not even joking)
Great game love all the added stuff in workshop as well would be cool if they also made dlcs for it
keep up the good work devs
From Mr. White
This game is hard but so am I
Puzzle platformer shooter that will make you rage at times but is really good
Game is great my only issue is with the controls, they are crooked
come to goon
stay for the gameplay
Game to mature, after a disappointing ending I'm remembering the rest of the game which was great.
P. S.: At Resident Evil saving the game is supposed to mean 'the record they are reviving'.
Better when you live alone
God bless this games modding community.
perfect game <3
Aside from the OBVIOUS reason I bought and played this..... The game just isn't really good......
