Описание

We think they came from space. We think they are evil. But, we know they have invaded the cities of Earth and made all life a bummer, so they must be destroyed. However, they are impervious to all forms of conventional weaponry.

Fortunately for humanity, Dr. Klaus von Hammersphere has discovered the rare element AntiOrbium which sends the Evil Orbs back to whence they came (wherever that is) and he has invented a device that he affectionately calls the “Elementary Evil Orb Disposal Device 2000” (EEODD 2000 for short) which can be used to shoot and deflect balls of AntiOrbium at the Orbs. He is recruiting you to wield this device and save humanity. What do you say? Do you want to save humanity?

CONTROLS

Use your mouse to control the EEODD 2000 and fire balls of AntiOrbium at the Evil Orbs. Because AntiOrbium is a very rare element, there is only so much to go around. Fortunately, you can also use the EEODD to control the balls after you have fired them at the orbs and try to knock the balls back at remaining Orbs to maximize the amount of Orbs popped per each AntiOrbium ball fired.

GAME

The Evil Orbs are devious and have utilized common materials from Earth to protect themselves from your barrage of AntiOrbium.

As in any armed conflict between humans and mysterious Orb-like entities, Dr. Hammersphere is hard at work inventing special powerups for your EEODD 2000 to win the arms race with the Evil Orbs. Utilize these powerups in different combinations to overcome whatever the Evil Orbs throw at you.

Once you have popped all the Evil Orbs in a city, the cloud of total bummerness will dissipate from the newly saved city, and the residents will celebrate your victory with a party. But, no time for you to stand around celebrating, for you must save all 132 cities around the world in order to stop the Evil Orbs before they complete their plan for world domination.

Save a city by using fewer AntiOrbium balls, and Dr. Hammersphere will reward you with a medal for your thriftiness. Can you earn gold medals on every level?

Along the way, you and Dr. Hammersphere just might solve the mystery of where the Evil Orbs came from in the first place.

Can you beat the Challenge Mode?

Challenge your friends and duel them either over the network or hotseat!

Save replays of your awesome shots and amaze your friends and family! Post them online and become the gaming star that you have always imagined yourself to be!

Can you earn all 120 trophies?

Evil Orbs is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The mobile app is basically a brickbreaker/pong game with a simple twist, the paddle is fixed in position and can only rotate around a single point in the middle, so you need to bounce balls carefully off the walls, if they don't come back to your paddle, you're in trouble. The bricks are blue blobs. That's all there is to this incredibly shallow, pointless mobile app infesting Steam just to try scam PC gamers out of some money. Did I mention this is a FREE mobile app that costs money on Steam?

From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.

The mobile app features simple, cartoony 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort mobile apps. 3D graphics programming does require a degree of skill and competence and unfortunately not all developers have the budget or talent to deliver this, despite 3D graphics cards hitting the mainstream in the 1990's. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing.

The mobile app only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this mobile app has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming.

Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone.

These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

The poor quality of this mobile app is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 3 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality mobile app is to be expected.

Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $5 USD, on app stores, it's free. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay FIVE BUCKS FOR A FREE MOBILE APP just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this can be played free elsewhere, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. Who do they think we are?
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer in this case breaches Valve guidelines for no apparent reason apart from an interesting confession... they generally seem to think being able to increase the window size of a fixed resolution game actually changes the game resolution. Obviously it doesn't, and we're left to wrestle with why the developer seems unable to conduct basic thought and reasoning processes like a normal human being. That does explain why they thought it would be ok to dump mobile trash on PC where it doesn't belong. But it doesn't excuse it.

The developer both acknowledges that this is a mobile app (confirming that fact of my review without doubt), but seems angry about me pointing that out to gamers. See, it doesn't matter what order the developer launched this mobile app on which platform, the fact is that it's a mobile app, has all the qualities of a mobile app, was designed for the lowest common denominator of gaming platforms, and thus compares poorly to games designed for PC. This is useful for gamers to know, which is why I include this important information in my reviews whenever I catch a developer dumping mobile trash on Steam.

The developer seems to have no problem, however, with pointing out how absolutely ugly, insulting and reprehensible it is for them to try scamming PC gamers into paying money for a free mobile app. That's absolutely a scam, and it's absolutely an insult. Again, we can only point at their defunct ability to reason like a human being for this malice and unethical behaviour.

The developers pointless response changes none of the objective facts about this trash mobile app. My review stands unaltered.

This is a really addictive little game. It's easy to learn and you will just want to finish just one more level. If you enjoy games like Peggle then you'll enjoy this one.

I've played Evil Orbs even before it came out on Steam, and have found it enjoyable and pretty addicting. Up to now, I've played with a pretty relaxed style, just trying to find a consistent approach to mowing down the Orbs. Maybe now that Evil Orbs is out on Steam, I'll try to get a little more aggressive and figure out how to best use all the power-ups provided by the game.
