One of the best roguelike isometric experiences out there. Even better than its sequel, which I suggest avoiding.

Synthetic gives you an excellent experience that can't be found anywhere else. The gun mechanics are addicting and beyond rewarding. There are such a slew of choices, guns and customization you can do through the run that maintains coherence where a lot of roguelikes just tend to throw in random bullshit. Getting headshots is intuitive and incredibly rewarding. The progression of the classes is fun and adds depth as you get used to the game mechanics. Would like to see more in the way of prestige progression. At $20 it is well worth the money, and on sale it's a no-brainer.

Would love to see more content for this game but we may just have to wait for a proper spiritual successor.

So fucking good... this game is literally the most addictive top-down roguelite I have ever played and I imagine I'll sink a few hundred hours or more into this guy. Hopefully by then synthetik 2 will be out of early access but we'll see!

It's like lightning in a bottle. It doesn't (really) have mods and is held together with shoestrings, duct tape, and dreams. It still has a few bugs, too, but the moment things start going well and the dopamine kicks in, any complaints fade away. An absolutely astounding work of art that I cannot recommend enough, and I am proud to have wasted a thoroughly unreasonable amount of time playing it.

I have so much good to say about this game I would not be able to fit it all here.

It just feels really great to play, a run of Synthetik can go from a desperate struggle against staggering odds to a complete power trip in the span of seconds. Rewarding good gameplay and adaptability with excellent RNG, really makes this a fun and very replayable rougelite. The most intense moments of this game will give you a feeling not too many games will give you.

ALL of the weapons feel great and always have a use, regardless of class, if you are willing to roll with the punches, you can make it work. Even if that weapons crate gives you a sniper on your shotgun run, there is typically a way to make it work, you just need to adapt, the RNG never feels out of place, you simply need to get creative. Strapping an ammo printer to a large-magazine machine-gun creates one of the best power trips in a shooter I have ever had.

The art and visual direction is honestly near the top (maybe even at the top) of my list for video games. It may be more simple than its sequel but I think it has a very distinct look to it that you can't really mix up with anything else. The colour palette for the whole experience is fantastic and really suits it well. You can tell a lot of love went into it.

The audio is an experience in-and-of itself, the soundtrack is excellent, well-suited and transitions very well in-between firefights. Gunshots have audible impact and criticals/headshots will set off dopamine receptors. I could go very in depth about how much I love the audio for this game however I am not going to write a small dissertation here. It's very good.

For such a simple concept of a dungeon crawling roguelite, this may be one of the best executions of it, fine tuned to the most minute detail. I simply can't find a single fault in this game, I have never seen a single bug while playing, from top-to-bottom this is a masterwork.

While the developers have moved on to the sequel, and this game will probably not be updated again, it doesn't need it. This feels like a labour of love that has been finished, and it is practically perfect in my opinion. An incredibly replayable game that pushes creative gameplay onto the player in a positive way.

An amazing twin-stick shooter roguelike. This game doesn't screw around, specially at military bay. Also it is a spicy roguelike, with many curses, modules, upgrades that can make or break your run, i really appreciate games that let me break the power limit of the game like this one.

The main problem of this game is its engine, its GameMaker Engine and it shows, as this is the most complex game made on GameMaker ever. Some issues are kind of unfixable like stutters during the jet plane fight, and it does push the engine to its limit.

Still, is better than synthetik 2 as of writting of this review, as that game is kind of in a sort of development hell atm.

So get this instead, you wont regret it, and you can play with a pal.

For real though this game is great, I've not unlocked everything yet but it is great for something to do if you have a half hour and don't want to really get into anything super deep. The game play is almost rhythmic and each run is pretty fun!

Best roguelike I've ever played, endless fun both by yourself and with friends. The combat is smooth and responsive while also exhilarating. The rng of both items, guns, and even the model variant of those cars, adds endless replayability.

The absolute WORST game on steam. Completely unplayable. Not worth free let alone actual money. What a joke.

Hey Hey People, Not SSeth here. I fucken love Synthetik and it is one of the reasons i got into synth music. You should go play it.

Watched a video about it. 2 years later, I am gifted it to 7 other people. Consider that.

After beating the final boss I finally feel qualified to write a review. This game is phenomenal, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I haven't played a game that has given me such highs and lows. I cannot recommend this game enough. It's pretty demanding at first but once you get into the flow of things there's nothing like it.

Synthetik is a fast-paced, top-down tactical shooter that is very intense. Its very punishing at points and sometimes can be a pain for good drops especially on coop. Overall is super fun though.

Amazing Sound Design.

Really challenging going in blind. The game doesn't give you much explanations and leaves you to fumble around for the first few hours. Once it starts making sense and you start scaling out of control, it's a lot more fun.

What a taste of time. Seth has forsaken me. This game was never that good to begin with. The controls are outright awful and you can't edit the controls on a controller. You can't use your keyboard and mouse if your controller is plugged in. You have to use the right analog stick to navigate throughout the entire menu. The left analog is twice as slower. You can't reduce the aiming sensitivity speed ingame on both mouse and controller. You have to change it in windows only. There is no option in the game. You idiotic developers need to go back to programming school. The aim is like skating on ice with no real control.

Why are there progression locks AT ALL. This isn't a mobile game. You literally have grind daily purchasing unlocks to unlock other unlocks instead of actually playing the game. The moment I witnessed the game have multiple DLCs to buy better weapons and sliced the game into multiple titles of the same name, it made it even more confusing. The game is supposed to be "fast pace" like in the trailer only to turn into a turn based RTS, rogue simulator. I should have the ability to choose any level and play it at any time. I have no idea what these developers were hoping to accomplish. Metal Slug is a better example of a game done right and instead of games evolving they have only regressed backwards.

The negative reviews began to pop up after 2020 apparently only to see that they have slowed the gameplay into a top-down gears of war. The game punishes you for the game developers incompetence, the pacing is too slow, grenade throws have to be double clicked, one to aim and one to deploy, enemies are awkward as hell getting stuck in corners of the map completely out sight only to get shot or sniped from offscreen and the stun mechanics from the enemies and environment are barely visible and unpredictable especially with all of the visual clutter from the smoke and debris covering up. There needs to be a silhouette through the walls and smoke to fix that issue. I hardly double these developers actually played their own game.

The soul of the game is "Dead Cells with guns", amazing design.
