Viscerally unfun game that fundamentally confuses the concept of difficulty with being unpleasant. I'm not sure who the target audience is that would enjoy this, I couldn't picture such an individual. In addition to the abysmal gameplay that I don't want to get into. The game has criminally poor explanations for its mechanics and bad UI.
Best case the game is funny to gift your friends to have them experience it and hopefully get a laugh out of it before uninstalling. The bad and the ugly is found here, go somewhere else for the good.
It feels like a dnd style game (with save scumming!) and there's stuff to unlock to add to the next playthrough. Pretty fun game overall, I really like it

Spent almost 6 hours in one run just to die in the end. Would run it back again.
Almost returned this game soon after I bought it, but I am so glad I didn't! It is not hard to learn most of the rules, and you get over that it only has "iron man mode." The stories are whimsical, the animations funny, character management is complex but fun, and it involves a lot of careful strategy and luck - I found myself really getting addicted!

Solid 11/10, great game
This game is based on a single unifying design principle. A middle finger to the player. Want to explore? Too bad. If you try to move around the map, you'll be ambushed or even better be tricked into thinking you found something that might help you, only to find it's rigged to actually put you even further behind.
if you try to separate from your team at all, you will be punished as encounters are proximity based. So if you try to fan out and use your time wisely, by taking another characters turn to find another point of interest, you will be isolated and killed.
There is perma death and you can't save as the save button is tied to the exit button. So essentially, you are dealt a bad hand from the start and if one tiny thing goes wrong, you have to start all over again from the beginning.
Want to spend your money on new gear? doesn't matter, because the relentless clock ensures that you have to keep pushing forward and as a result the power curve continues to shift until those items become irrelevant. Which happens very quickly.
want to level up your character to give yourself an advantage? Too bad. All leveling means is that your enemies are stronger and resources now cost more.
There is no progression. Leveling doesn't give you any new skills. There is no true character identity, there are no true RPG elements. Leveling just means a number goes up next to your character portrait and your enemies scale up.
Want to play smart resource management so you can save your team in a tough spot? Too bad, the enemies have abilities that will steal all the resources you've been so desperately trying to hold onto and those cheat abilities never miss.
Want to strategize by making your tankiest character take the hits so you can survive an encounter? Too bad, the enemies just do constant AOE damage and those never miss either.
But all YOUR abilities will miss unless you use the focus you need to survive. Want to save your focus for those critical moments? Too bad, every encounter is set up to force you to use your focus just to ensure you don't start out the encounter at a severe disadvantage, and if by some miracle you do save your focus then the enemy can just steal that too.
(one of my characters had full focus in an encounter and with one ability the enemy took ALL of it!)
This cheap game design is most obvious in dungeons, where you have to make it all the way through without a reset of health or focus, so you are at a constant disadvantage and it's almost inevitable that this ever increasing disadvantage will finally build to a point where there is no way to win. The only thing you can do is cross your fingers and hope for lucky rolls.
And the save system is a slap in the face. It's obviously rigged, but they get away with it by hiding behind the label of "rogue like" and they frame it early on by saying, don't expect to beat this your first time. Which makes the player think: ok, this will be difficult, but fair and beatable with enough experience and skill.
Except gotcha, it's not difficult in a rewarding sense. Just blatantly designed in every single facet to put you, and keep you, in a state of severe disadvantage.
And the only way to overcome that is to sink more time into it until finally you get lucky. But even those who are fast to catch onto this trick will probably play past the refund period before they realize it's rigged. It's such dishonest and predatory design. It's like a mobile game disguised as a legitimate steam game.
This design exploits player psychology by keeping you in a constant state of barely surviving. Every single action you take is punished and there is no way you as a player have agency to shift the balance of the odds completely stacked against you. It's all based on random chance. The only thing that can bring you closer to victory is sheer hours spent.
You aren't rewarded for strategy or skill. You are a victim of circumstance. It's like a slot machine. Designed specifically to exploit your hope that the next roll will get you somewhere. But instead of taking your money, it steals precious hours of your life that you'll never get back.
And when you step back and think about all the time you've spent, you realize that you were never really having fun. You were just in a constant state of agitation and desperation the entire time. The thing that keeps you going is the primal need to survive. And what's even more insidious, is that by the time most people realize that they have been exploited, they justify it as "fun" because of the sunk cost fallacy.
Dark pattern based game design. Hidden behind cutsie graphics and deceptively "casual" style of play. Most people don't even realize it or if they do, they convince themselves that it was worth it. The reviews reflect this. Don't fall for it.
It's the game equivalent of walking into a crooked casino and getting cleaned out. Then on your way out the door, they gaslight you into thinking you had a good time.
The game doesn't cost much, so wasting money isn't really a problem, but please don't waste your time.

I like this game except for the ticking timer. Maybe its the game mode I played, maybe its editable in the settings (but the settings said it would disable some achieves), but yeah I loved the combat, the gearing, the hex map... but I learned I couldn't play the way I like to play these kinds of games - grind around the map getting way too overpowered then dealing with the quests later... I failed once the stages reached level 4 after a few hours of playtime.
I will keep playing a little longer. I got 2 currency pieces after my first game that I believe is used on the rogue like style of getting more powerful, so MAYBE the game becomes what I like eventually after you lose a couple of times.
Fun game when stuff goes well, you'll need some dedicated friends but if you're up for it, then this game is absolutely worth it.

I honestly cannot believe it took my husband and me this long to hear about this game. Do you like RPG games? Rougelike games? Tabletop RPG games? Cooperative fantasy games to play with your friends? If any one of those is true, this game is absolutely for you. Original, imaginative, easy to learn, addictive, and insanely fun to play. There is a ton of replay value even in the same campaign, and on top of that there are tons of unique campaigns. In addition, as you play you slowly unlock more and more cool things that can randomly generate on your map across multiple playthroughs, resulting in a familiar feeling game consistently having fresh things to discover. 100/10 an absolute must play for any fantasy, RPG, or rogelike fan, especially those looking for something to play with a friend or significant other.

Unreasonably difficult and clunky, roguelike but too cruel
at first, i was a little confused but after dying the first time and having to start over i liked the game way much more!
Currently the best turn based strategy set in a fantasy world. So much content, such an awesome system that is both well-balanced and challenging for the players! I love the mechanics of how everything works starting from level progression through trading and discovering new items to fighting. It's easy to sink into this game but the great thing about it is you can play in long sessions or short blips - depending on how much time you have. This is the #1 game for me right now and I don't see that changing any time soon!
This is one of my only negative reviews for a game.
Devs, wtf? The design choices here make no sense. The base of the game feels like it could work, but in actual play it feels horrible. The chances to hit always feel like a coin flip, the enemies hardly ever miss, & the scaling of the enemies does not keep up with your gear. Leveling doesn't feel impactful & the only interesting mechanics (the class abilities) have such a low chance of happening they might as well be non-existent.
TLDR: Progression feels non-existent, chances to hit feel skewed, & classes don't feel impactful. General game play loop feels bad at best & down right irritating at worst.
Buy this game if you wanna miss rolls, get zero loot drops, and get crit rolled against by every mob in the game. Not worth the money tho imo
Can't handle a roguelike where you don't know if you're getting anything out of it for the length of the movie "Titanic". It just doesn't fit the genre to me. There's also wayyy too many concepts (items/attacks/spells/monsters/map elements/basically everything) with little contextual help or information. And I don't mean in a "spoiler, lets me know if it's bad/good" kind of way, I mean in a "WTF does this do or how is this mechanic even working?" I'm just not going to play it enough to encounter the same unexplained things 3-4x until I eventually figure them out from interactions or context. Again, fumbling in the dark to failure over the course of multiple hours is not my idea of a good time. If you have so much free time to spare you can burn 3-4 hr chunks of it at a time, reading your cellphone for wiki basic game info, until you get the hang of this help yourself. I prefer RPGs that let you level and build power gradually, keeping some or most of it if you mess up, or roguelikes where I can generally know in a half hour-hour (max) or so if the run is gonna go well and is worth pursuing, This isn't either.
A cute and thoughtful game that welcomes non-strategic RPG rogue players to play where one is comfortable to make mistakes. I am a total solo player who finds entertainment in games like Cult of the Lamb and Stardew, but this game makes me look forward to playing it with my boyfriend who likens himself to playing games like WOW, League, and Fortnite. I would never to have expected myself to enjoy this game myself, but here I am attempting to fend for the land solo while I wait to conquer with my boyfriend. So fun! So enjoyable!

Very fun game! all game about teamwork, communicate, share equipment, gold, item and etc etc to survive until beat final boss, more worth if you play with friends. or find in discord.

Game is just phenomenal. They really nailed it with this one, unfortunately the second one isn't quite as good but this game is the best there is in terms of co-op RPGs.
The game is really fun with friends and if you arent wanting to touch Journyman/master difficulty. This games method of making the game harder is artificially making you miss more, making the already annoying AoE spamming enemies not miss and focus on certain members of your team. Want to try a campaign with a team comp you think is cool to try? Tough luck, your team is too slow and keep taking hits at the start of a fight and already set at a disadvantage. Towns not selling gear you need and have to deal with the inflating economy? Consider the run dead. Run into a green jelly in the glittering mines? Thats a nice way of telling you your run is dead if you dont have rng holding your hand or arent save scumming to the end.
Basically, if you arent running the most meta of team loadouts and the game's rng isnt carrying you through to the end, dont bother. Doesnt help that there is no modding community for the game to help change the game to be better as there are some aspects that definitely could be changed. Just do apprentice and enjoy the game for what it is cause the higher difficulties arent worth doing and were poorly done.
DLC is the same but they took the rapidly increasing difficulty spike and made it more apparent in the form of mandatory arenas.
Artificial difficulty simulator. Any attack under 90 percent chance auto fails. Late game bosses all just use AOE attacks so taunts literally do nothing. Every boss spams debuffs so you never have a fair chance. Early game is super fun, late game is absolute bs riddled with artificial difficulty. Every "special" ability will fail unless you dump all your focus into it.
Best game for satisfying that RNG itch without spending big bucks.
There was definitely a steep learning curve with this game. My boyfriend and I have been playing this a lot the last couple weeks, and we have played MANY campaigns because we kept losing or using up too many of our lives. Once you understand the battle mechanics, it becomes way more fun & easier to win, obviously. I enjoy the rag doll physics when you defeat an enemy as well. Overall, very fun to play co-op!
I love this game, it is a real hidden gem. The art style is unique and fun, and the game play is entertaining. Anything can go wrong and if you do not manage your time or moves correctly, it could mean the end for your playthrough. I love how this game really makes you think in order to survive. It isn't easy to win and I've played this game for around 100 hours from here and my xbox and I still have not beaten the medium difficulty. This really gives it a sense of replay value. Added on to this there are items in a "lore store" which you can buy with lore books which you get from playing the game. You also unlock new lore store items from getting events within a run and making progress. Overall I give this a 9/10, great game to play with friends, 100% worth it to play.
One of the rare games with turn-based strategy that you can play with your friends. It's a pity that it is not known by many players.

First and foremost: This is an incredible little rougelike strategy RPG game.
Saying that, I have to admit that is is very niche game too. For one, its balls hard with a very high barrier for entry. Your runs will become unmanagable very quickly without meticulous planning, which will lead to you dying and having to start all over again. Secondly it is sometimes very based on luck. This to me though, isnt a flaw but an integral part of the game. In essence, the entire game is based on you strategically deciding when to use your recources to tip the odds in your favor or when to let the dice roll freely.
If that doesnt sound appealing to you, then I totally get that, but if you are willing to give the game a real shot, im sure youll find much enjoymnent in it. Ive been figureing out the game with a buddy and I havent had this much fun with a game in years.
Ive seen a bunch of people criticising the game for being either too hard or luck based. These people clearly just werent into the core concept of the game. Theyre basically just asking for a different game, rather than criticising the game for what it is.

100% recommend this game, it is extremely fun, has co-op availability, and was made very well. The game also has silly graphics and ragdoll mechanics that are hilarious. My friends and I have put countless hours into this game for a good reason!

It's cute, and they warn you up front that you're not going to complete whatever quest on your first go, but the play is slow (not "Voice of Cards" slow) and not very rewarding. If you don't act quickly, you fail. If you act too quickly, you fail, and even though I've tried things on the same level multiple times, it seems to get harder. Not worth sinking the amount of time you'd need to be successful. Fortunately, it only set me back $6.
Alright, no, this game is simply just mediocre.
There are nice things about it, like how the music is lovely, the sound design is pretty good and the low-poly graphics mixed with nice lighting and effects make the game look pretty damn good. But the game itself is just mediocre.
It promises to be inspired by tabletop roleplaying - I'm not seeing it. There's no actual roleplaying and the character building is extremely shallow with classes only having different appearance, stats and a unique perk, with all else being just a mere suggestion. The game doesn't have a feeling of participating in a tabletop session, it's just a turn-based game with a generic fantasy setting. The combat itself is just "three dudes in a row" where your party and the enemies take turns jumping in and smacking each other until someone's health bar depletes, and your characters only have a handful of skills determined by their equipment. Again, not like tabletop RPG's at all. What, just because you make "rolls" to determine the effect of your hits? Lol. Speaking of, the rolls seem pretty heavily biased in the favour of your enemies - watch your heroes repeatedly make imperfect or completely failed rolls while your enemies pummel you with perfect attack rolls over and over again. Balancing in general is pretty biased towards your enemies, with the foes often hitting harder and more accurately than your heroes and it gets worse the futher you get into the game. There are dungeons, but they're just a railroaded gaunlet of enemy encounters and something like a shop, chest, trap or rest spot inbetween until the end, and you can only leave those when you win. It's all just so... basic.
The game also uses a "slight" time limit in the form of Chaos - when enough time passes the game will add a Chaos counter, meaning that now enemies have more HP and chaos tiles will spawn on the world map. Once 3 chaos tokens are active enemies are obviously a lot tougher now (and more noticeably when you're futher in the game where they have more HP) and you're also at a threat of being ambushed by a powerful Chaos Beast that has the potential of wiping your entire party. How do you reduce chaos you ask? Well, there are objects in the game world that are supposed to bring chaos down, but I haven't found more than those at the start of the run. You can take a quest from a town to hunt down some cultists and remove one chaos token - but for some reason you can do only one quest per town in a playthrough, so if you choose one quest, you can't do any more. So if you did a quest for gold or a item in a town, it can't save you from chaos anymore. And vice versa, if you used a town quest to buy yourself some more time, you will be short on gold and gear. And the cultist enemies are pretty strong (especially if you let chaos build up) and hit very hard too, so good luck. Your other option is progressing the story, but that also means getting time pressured into hard encounters with enemies that hit like a truck.
And what especially bothers me together with the time pressure is that you can't move as a party, every character takes their turn to move on the map. I understand that this is because the game was built with co-op in mind, but it's still obnoxious how you're just passing turns waiting with two characters at a cultist fort while the third one slowly makes his way over there, repeatedly messing up his move rolls, then he gets ambushed by a enemy and loses half his health so he has to go back to town to heal. Did I mention healing is kinda fucking limited? You have to either go back to a town and pay for healling (god help you if you have a disease or even a curse, because now you need to pay for REALLY expensive healing), hope for a random encounter that will heal you or pay for pricey and pretty limited herbs that have to be split between your party, in a world where enemies hit quite hard and generously hand out diseases and curses. All while the clock just keeps ticking away, tick tick tick tick and oh no, the enemies are now tougher again and would you look at that - some boss just spawned and he inflicts a permanent effect on the world that makes your life even harder? Joy!
Overall this game really just isn't what I looked forward to and I'm still confused why people compared such a basic experience to tabletops or DnD. If you want to play something resembling a tabletop RPG session at home using your computer... tabletop sim exists man, so do various services allowing for playing tabletop systems through the internet. If you want a game that will feel like a tabletop session and have the randomness of a roguelite, I recomment Wildermyth - this game feels SO much more like playing a tabletop rpg, together with using cardboard pieces for a board game feel and also includes actual roleplaying elements and varied emergent storytelling. There is also Card Hunter, but that is a freemium game and more card-based, as you could tell from the title - but it very much has the atmosphere of a tabletop session, including basing the simple "plot" around it. Darkest Dungeon can kind of feel like that too, and battle brothers is good too. Aside from that, if you want to play something resembling DnD on the computer just play Divinity Original Sin, Pathfinder, Knights of The Chalice or even the old rpg games on GoG - stuff based on actual tabletop systems. You will have a much more "accurate" experience than this game.
It's not bad or horrible in the end, but simply kind of basic and mediocre and not really meeting the "tabletop roleplaying" premise. Look elsewhere.
Amazing game to play with your friends or loved ones in split screen
I like board games. This one is very interesting. Although I have never survived :). For now.
It's really just not that fun and engaging, especially with how lackluster and sometimes broken this game is.
Pros:
- Visual style is kind of nice.
Cons:
- Very short and lacking (story and gameplay-wise) main campaign.
- Certain builds and characters are useless for the end game which also renders them useless for the early game, too, with how limiting the game design is made to be (from rolls to armor, skills, economy and whatever else).
- You won't find any semblance of balance anywhere.
- (Online Co-op) Bugs that can ruin your entire save (which means you'll have to start from scratch whatever campaign you were in the middle of), have been there for a long time and haven't been fixed since.
