Dark Parables: Curse of Briar Rose successfully interprets the classic story of Sleeping Beauty but puts its spin on things in order to provide a fresh look at its narrative. There’s nothing terribly wrong with this HOPA but in terms of story, you feel more could have been done with the source material. The concept of these classic stories existing in reality to be investigated is intriguing but the story plays out in a fairly pedestrian manner which may send a few players to sleep themselves.
(I will only comment on the game itself. There is a Bonus Chapter, but unfortunately I am unable to play as the game no longer starts up for me. It already had trouble launching, and would take two-five tries to actually start up the game and now it gave up entirely. Welp... At least I finished the Main Story.)
A much darker version of the Sleeping Beauty story (or should I say... Way closer to how the original is). Graphics are fine as they are for a much older game, and even though there is no map... Navigation isn't that bad. I only got lost 5x and even then I found some places by accident... So it all works out.
The game has some Mini-Games, which were actually THOUGHT out and although there is one that's repeated... It's freaking fun to try and figure it out! I really miss when Developers gave two sheets about their games... Sigh.
Anywho. The main thing in here are the H.O. scenes... Which require you to find "pieces" of an object and make a whole one. The pieces sometimes ARE tiny, but I can actually SEE them... Unlike some games... Where you gotta play with a damn microscope!
Story was fine and you have like 14 other games in the series, all based on Fairy Tales. That's awesome.

Loved the challenge, the chapters are short and there is a lack of lore (besides the first cut-scene) but the hidden - find element is well established and well designed. Played it a few times (basic, bonus, and hard) and never got bored. Beautiful music as well, all be it, repetitive.
This has to be the only game where the FROG scenes are harder than the puzzles.
This game is hard for me to rate. I gave it a thumbs up, but honestly the game shows it's age. It was made in the days when computers still had CD roms on them, so this is old school ya'll.
First of all, the FROG scenes are really, really difficult, and not in the fun way. Things just blend too easily, especially the dark scenes. It is a literal needle in a haystack so many times. One thing though is that the object's color is often changed to match the art it's on. Like an object that's suppose to be yellow that's green in the picture on a leaf. It's very frustrating.
Puzzles are nothing to write home about, but honestly, I can tell the developers were more interested in the FROG scenes than the puzzles.
But despite the age, I will give props to the clear love and care put into it. The art still holds up to this day, while many games of that era have aged like milk in graphics, the music is gorgeous, haunting, and fits the mood.
In the end, this game has to be played to enjoy the Dark Parables. You have no choice but to play these games in order, or else you'll be a confused mess. I did enjoy the game well enough, but God do I wish that FROG scenes had been better done.
This is my favorite game series of all time. They always have a clear and clever plot intertwining fairytales, the voice acting is on point, and the art is beautiful.
Simple, but fun.
If you really like puzzle games, this is really fun. The story is interesting and the graphics are really pretty
It's a fun game with fun challenges, plus Sleeping Beauty is one of my fave fairy tales
if you enjoy hidden object games and a dark twist to your fave fairy tales this is the game for you. only thing i wish would be that the hint button can help you find a location if you get stuck and don't know where to go
