DUSK reintroduces you to a world where butchery and bloodshed must be mastered... if you're to survive 'til dawn. Inspired by Doom, Quake, Blood, Heretic, Hexen, Half-Life, Redneck Rampage and all your '90s favorites, while featuring a soundtrack by metal music mastermind Andrew Hulshult.
In three distinct campaign episodes hand-crafted from straight outta the '90s, players will battle through an onslaught of mystical backwater cultists, possessed militants and even darker forces and attempt to discover just what lurks beneath the Earth. Featuring a vast arsenal of badass weaponry including sickles, swords, crossbows, rifles, dual-wielded and double barreled shotguns and incredibly necessary grenade and rocket launchers, DUSK brings unapologetic retro action from start to finish.
In addition to the main campaign, DUSK features an Endless Survival Mode, putting you front and center against wave after wave of merciless enemies.
And for those looking for an extra challenge, DUSK also offers the chance to go head to head online to battle your friends in DUSKWorld arena multiplayer, where darkness hosts the worst of humanity in surprising new ways...

I still can't believe to this day that David Szymanski, a man who until this point was known for incredibly short first-person experiential narrative horror titles, just decided one day to create one of the best fucking FPS games of all time and resurrect an entire genre of shooter. Like as a joke or something.
gameplay has been done b4 but this game hits the spot like no other. extremely fun game
Very fun to play, one of the best FPS shooters for sure, the horror elements and trippy maps are a plus
Another boomer shooter, passed at 100%...
When I first launched Dusk, I was immediately captivated by the 90s atmosphere, filled with nostalgia for classic first-person shooters. This indie game, developed by David Szymanski and released in 2018, offers players a unique blend of retro graphics, fiery mechanics, and engaging gameplay.
Graphically, Dusk features pixel art and simple textures that truly evoke classic games like Doom and Quake. However, despite its simplicity, the visual style is crafted with love, and the details of the surrounding world are impressive. The well-chosen color palette immerses players in a dark and mysterious world where every corner hides its secrets.
The sound design is also delightful: the sounds of gunfire, enemy screams, and background melodies create an atmosphere of tension and dynamism. The music is a mix of dark melodies and aggressive riffs, making each battle even more thrilling.
As for gameplay, Dusk offers a variety of levels with unique designs. The shooting system is intuitive but requires skill and quick reflexes. I enjoyed searching for different types of weapons, from classic shotguns to unique experimental guns. Each weapon feels different and has its strengths, allowing for experimentation with combat tactics.
However, Dusk is not just about shooting. The game also includes platforming and puzzle elements, adding variety to the experience. At times, I had to solve challenging tasks to progress, making the game more interesting.
In terms of the storyline, Dusk does not take center stage but rather focuses on gameplay; however, it is interesting enough to hold attention. Throughout the game, I learned about the world through the environment, details, and text lines that occasionally pop up. This creates a sense of mystery and encourages exploration of every corner to uncover the secrets hidden in the dark locations.
In the end, Dusk is a true gift for retro shooter enthusiasts. With dynamic gameplay, a magnificent atmosphere, and excellent sound design, this game skillfully combines nostalgia with modern gaming mechanics. Despite the lack of a complex plot, the game thrives on vibrant moments of combat and exploration.
I gladly rate Dusk 8.5/10. It is a must-play project for all shooter fans and those who want to immerse themselves in a world where old traditions meet innovative ideas.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3356674198 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3356674145THIS GAME IS ALMOST AS GOOD AS ULTRAKILL BUT. It did have minor flaws such as the first boss in E3M10 and E2M9 the first boss in both levels i think are bad bc the first one in E3M10 is just plain stupid almost seems like a joke the REAL final boss of dusk is fire but basic moves that are easy to dodge. The first boss of E2M9 is just a plain old copy of another boss.
E2M10 had a bad ending its way to basic i think it should have a more epic ending but its ok. EP 3 is my favorite EP out of the 3 it has alot of cool levels like E3M7 very cool concept same for E2M5. I LOVE THE FACt that you can fly with a crossbow fr the best cross bow i have seen in a game so far. To 100% the game is overall easy the only roadblock for 100% is true 100% and dont drop it and they just take sometime to get.
Basically the bar by which all modern retro shooters are judged. It's awesome.
if you like DOOM and QUAKE you will love DUSK.
DUSK is a retro FPS game in the style of QUAKE and DOOM.
not only do you get the game, you get to have mods and an all new HD dlc for FREE.
you can also get the DUSK SDK to make maps to your heart contents.
DUSK is one of the best FPS games i've played next to ULTRAKILL (published both by Newblood)
Fantastic Game could spend all day finding secrets fighting outlandish enemies & bosses (intoxigator) being one with everything from a bow to a grenade launcher while being introduced to different play styles with sword and melee only levels make this fun quirky i recommend.
A fantastic experience from beginning to end. Surprisingly atmospheric visuals, awesome weapons, good enemy design, bangin' soundtrack. All the goodness of classic shooters with no downside. 10/10, would dusk again.
Very good homage to 1990s shooters, great atmosphere and fun game overall. Secrets, weapons and many more await you in this game
This is absolutely one of my most favourite games. It perfectly encapsulates everything I love about Doom and Quake, as well as other similar shooters, possibly apart from the music which is still great its just really difficult to beat Doom music. However, in every other aspect I feel it's a great modernisation of the aforementioned Quake. I could glaze this game more, but I'll just leave it at-- very cool game! Would recommend!
Feels super smooth to play, the levels are cleverly designed, and the secrets are fun to discover. I haven't tried to multiplayer but I could imagine it being pretty great too since movement feels awesome. Wish it had co-op because it would be super fun with a friend, even if it wasn't balanced around there being 2 players.
DUSK is a fantastic game.
It manages to be low poly, but also has great atmosphere.
The gameplay is pretty fast and can be unforgiving at times, but you can quick save/load whenever.
I love how there are random places where you can get out of bounds (even without enabling the infinite flight cheat) and sometimes you even find an easter egg out there.
DUSK has a lot of replay value because of the massive amount of secrets there are. Well, that and simply because of how fun the game is.
The soundtrack is fantastic and adds a lot to the experience of running around while whacking cultists with your sickles.
The game doesn't take itself too seriously, it's perfect in my opinion in that regard.
I think the worst thing I can say about DUSK is that the pistols are complete garbage.
I don't often get all achievements in games, but DUSK is so good that I actually wanted to. It's not especially hard to, but the soap one can be a little annoying.
Also, the HD version has references to other newblood games as book titles. :)
Amazing shooter with amazing mechanics and movement.
Love it.
As I know for a fact I will not say anything original about this game, my only statement is to go PLAY IT! One of the best FPS games ever made, EVEN without the "retro revival" qualifier. This one, at least to me, stands among the best of the genre.
The movement tech in Dusk has cemented it as one of my favorite boomer-shooters of all time.
Great game, I especially liked the first couple levels.
Fantastic game, lets me strafe jump like a crackhead.
This game rocks. I love the style of it so much. Even if you think they make the game look "cheap," don't let the graphics fool you. The gameplay is as great as it gets
Damn, had this in my library for ages and never gave it any attention. Starts off as a pretty standard horror shooter and then gets CRAZY with some ingeniously designed levels that make your head spin (quite literally). Played on ciero miedo, the second hardest difficulty and felt pretty fair with the exception of a few encounters later on. Overall a blast of an arena shooter that keeps things really exciting and fresh.
Another amazing title from David! Love it, 10/10. Good for those who like games like DOOM and some levels are part bullet hell.
A must-have if you love boomer shooters. Captures the horror aspect very well, effectively mixing in sci-fi and occult elements. 10/10.
Better than anticipated with already high expectations due to reviews. If you are a fan of fast paced boomer shooters this is one of the best and just a good FPS game in general, definitely worth your time.
The game that single-handedly started the boomer shooter revival.
A great game that starts off as a relatively "normal" Quake-like game, but really gets going in chapters 2 and 3.
At first it seems to be a great homage to the shooters of the past. However, the longer you play it, the more you realise that it is not just an homage, but that it actually surpasses most of the old greats. The levels get much more creative, the game gets harder, it is the quintessential boomer shooter.
Took me a while to get into at first, but it is very highly recommended!
Well damn.
I loved it, and then I didn't. I remember the exact moment when I became bored and playing started feeling like a chore, but I'm not completely sure why. It feels like nothing really has changed, but... maybe that's the reason? Let's just start at the beginning. Because the beginning is amazing.
Into the SATAN
Yeah, the game's early hours are a hodgepodge of your stereotypical isolated village with a dark secret tropes and I'm here for that. Weird dungeons hidden under barns, farmer dudes with chainsaws, klansmen-style cultists; and you get to blast those sonnuvas with an arsenal of familiar weapons with a twist. A pistol? Why not two pistols? A shotgun? Why not two shotguns? A super shotgun? Okay, that's already perfect.
The level design's pretty tight at first. It flows, has secrets of varying complexity to find, and it invites you to delve deeper. What's going on here? How far does this go? And who's the mysterious voice that keeps talking to you?
New weapons here, a boss or two there, slow descend into the heart of madness makes you breeze through the first episode. At this point, the game is pretty hard to put down.
Episode 7: Somehow, Duskdude returned
This is probably where I should mention that this game was in Early Access for a while, and was released one episode at a time. Nothing wrong with that by itself; but it's pretty clear that the episodes were meant to be fun experiences in their own scope. So the pacing is made to fit individual episodes.
What this means is - for example - once you reach the end of Episode 1, you'll have found every single weapon there is. The Sword, a weapon you get naturally in Episode 3, can only be found in a secret - but it's there, and I found it. You'll be at your most powerful relatively early on, and the game needs to make sure the challenge remains consistent; but it also (rightfully) wants to add new enemies in latter episodes. What should be their strength level?
Diabolical Industrial Complex
As you enter Episode 2, you notice that all your weapons are gone. That's alright, you'll just have to build up your again. This time, you're entering some kind of strange military themed installation, and the weird demonic stuff takes a bit of a back seat.
...and it's just not as interesting, unfortunately.
A few enemies get swapped out for new, more thematically-appropriate ones; but the variety remains somewhat low. On average, you'll probably encounter 3-4 types of enemies in a given level, with an occasional surprise.
When I reached the 8th level of Episode 2 - the Erebus Reactor - I realised I'm really forcing myself to play. The level is a bit of a mess - involves climbing, collecting keycards, opening a chain of doors, all in a large, open area - with an annoying lava pool that's relatively easy to fall into. So I had to redo this part a little too often for my liking, even with quicksaving.
Back to Hell
And unfortunately, the game failed to reignite my interest afterwards. It did get better, but eventually I just had to shelve it. Even reaching and beating half of the final episode didn't do much for me, even if it was somewhat better then the second one.
Since the game was in Early Access, the achievement data probably isn't very reliable (some might've played when the game was "IN" but then forgot about it) - but if we assume that it's somewhat truthful, then other players had a similar experience. 46% of players beat the first episode, and 26% beat the second. Most of these players beat the third too, at 22%. Those are pretty decent numbers, considering the game has 20k reviews, so hey, lots of people clearly enjoy it.
It's a shame. I loved the beginning, but then I got bored. That doesn't usually happen for me when it comes to boomer shooters. The only one I can recall that had this effect was... Amid Evil? Oh, that's by the same developer? I guess our styles don't match. I respect the work, though.

Omfg! This is better than classic Doom easily. Turning corners running into various enemies really gives you a bit of fear and happiness at the same time. Any shooter fan would appreciate the level design, weapons, music, fast paced action lol I can go on & on about this gem. Do yourself a favor and add this to your library asap 10/10 🔥
An excellent quake-esque horror-themed shooter with fantastic enemy, weapon, and level design. An absolute blast of a time that doesn't overstay its welcome. Kinda wanna replay it just talking about it.
10/10 boomer shooter. Honestly one of the best shooters ever made. The gunplay and movement feel great, but what really steals the show is the atmosphere. The way Dusk builds tensions through music and level design is nothing short of brilliant.
Incredibly fun old school FPS with an amazing atmosphere with a tone that ranges from bombastic to horror. The movement mechanics allow you to blast around at extreme speeds, and the weapons, while mostly pretty standard visually and in function, all serve a distinct purpose, with enemies and levels that will put those weapons to good use.
a fire game to play. i recomend playing endless after u beat the game as it will spoil monsters
Doom-like games usually aren't brimming with lore as the core bits are around movement and gun combos, but this game was actually quite well rounded in all departments. Very satisfying movement that will reflexively make you bhop your way across levels, good gun variety and utility and the levels were built well with those in mind. Gameplay wise nothing stands out because DUSK is very well rounded and extremely solid.
Art direction of this game is definitely one of the things I enjoyed, the music, the locations and even the story which is not super obvious or present reminds you of itself every once in a while. The levels are well made without intending to be frustrating but challenging (I am looking at you Ghost Runner, you suck and you should be reminded of it). A variety of gameplay types based on the art and directions of levels was genuinely really nice. It felt like everything had a purpose and had its place. This game is an analogue of a really fucking good sandwich of your preference. It won't make you cry like some Michelin restaurant food might, but its just a great and tasty overall experience that leaves you very happy.
When I when she intruding on my Dusk till I uhm um Nyarlathotep 8.5/10
boring and very repetitive gameplay. All enemies feel the same: ku klux guy shoots projectile at you, this dog or something also shoots one projectile, the scarecrow has shotgun (woah such original enemy), the soldier shoots projectiles, they are all so similar. You get all the guns too early and enemies do not pose a threat (even on the hardest difficulty). Tried playing on different difficulties duskmare and intruder mode, still very boring. I would recommend the first quake if you want some good arcade shooter.
So, I'll be up front. This is the "Quake Sequel" we never got. That said, I do have thoughts.
The enemy A.I. is fairly simplistic and, like Quake, the enemy variety is slim. The one BIG issue I have is beating a few levels, dying, then realizing I do not automatically start at beginning of level I died on. I lost time and progress from this and actually raage-quit after that to calm my anger. I do not mind rouge-like games, one life, that is it, but I suppose knowing that going in would have not upset me.
That said, as long as you save at start of level and enjoy Quake, you will enjoy this game.
Takes all the boomer shooter elements we know and love, adds modern movement, semi-unique weapons, plenty of nods to fan favorite movies and games. Who doesn't like Dusk? Seriously, tell me...
its quake except it is also doom, but on the other hand, it is its own thing
you get were i'm coming from, right?
I've played a lot of modern "retro fps" games, and to be honest, most of them are complete ass. A lot of them take all the wrong lessons from old boomer shooters, creating games that make you wish you were playing Quake instead. Dusk is by far one of the best modern boomer shooters ever. This game actually understands what makes these old games so fun, and cuts out all the fat so that you can properly enjoy a simple, violent, and atmospheric shooter without getting annoyed or bored.
Apparently I haven’t written a review for this game yet? Lemme fix that.
Dusk is one of the best indie games of all time. On the surface you’ll look at it and think oh it’s another old school shooter and yeah it is, but Dusk knows what you’re thinking and it takes advantage of that thought process and will throw you for a loop as you play. It knows what you expect from this kind of game and at various points will turn the concept on its head and defy expectations. I don’t want to spoil how, but just know that this game is very creative and isn’t just “ANOTHER old school shooter”.
Thats not to say Dusk isn’t an old-school shooter though. It definitely is and it does that exceptionally well. Level design takes center stage here, having some of the most interesting levels I’ve ever seen in an FPS. It starts out pretty standard but as you go along things get weird. All the weapons are satisfying and punchy, my favorite is the dual-wield shotguns that you spin-reload like Arnold in T2. I also really appreciate the pacing here, a lot of throwback FPS games make levels that are obnoxiously long filled with enemies to the point where it seems like filler content. Not here though, everything feels just right and every item, power up, and enemy placement is well thought out and smart.
Yeah, this game is incredible and most importantly “worthy” of your time wink wink. I also highly recommend the “Dusk HD” pack which is technically a free dlc but it updates the models of weapons and enemies and they look fantastic. If you haven’t played this for whatever reason, shame on you and your bloodline
After returning to the game in like months I finally finished the game. This game is a boomer shooter inspired by old games like Doom and others like it. You get keys and navigate the levels to progress to the next level. You get power-ups like faster reloading for guns, a power-up that can make you slow down time when you move, and being able to climb walls to places you couldn't get to before. There are some levels I got stuck on but with navigating through the levels with a bit of time I was able to get through it. You fight bosses that do show the life bar showing how many hits they are taking when you use it. You can dual-wield certain weapons like the shotgun, pistol, and melee weapons, but that's about it. The enemies variety is pretty good like those with chainsaws, cult-like enemies that shoot magic at you, and other enemies that are pretty fun to kill. You can beat the game in under 5 hours If you are pretty good at fps games like this. Best to get it on sale. I give this game a 9 out of 10. I hope my review makes you think twice about getting the game. Have a good day.
I love being able to do a front flip while shotgunning scarecrows and military personal.
the creepy crawly invisible my eyes decieve wendigos and the scp 096 thing is FUCKING ANNOYING.
big johni nater
This was (if I'm remembering right) one of the first of the wave of retro boomer shooters. That might make you think it's a little more generic, a little less creative, than the games that came later.
You'd be wrong.
The level design here is immensely creative and fun - almost like a tour of the best custom Doom/Quake levels. They also manage to avoid a lot of the pitfalls of classic level design (like the over-reliance on mazes) while still feeling believably retro. I really want to say more, but I don't want to spoil some of the cooler sections, so I'll just say: It's great!
The art & environmental design is phenomenal, too. There are some scenic moments in this game that made me gasp out loud (and then hammer the screenshot button). Stuff that I would expect in a Kitty Horrorshow game, not a rambunctious boomer shooter. I never knew quite what to expect when rounding the next corner.
And, naturally, the gameplay is basically fun-in-a-can. It absolutely feels like one of the classic 90s shooters, in a good way - it even has bunny hopping. It's admittedly nothing you haven't seen before, but hey - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Dusk is already doing plenty of unique stuff elsewhere, so I think keeping the gameplay classic (but very polished) was a good move.
If you like boomer shooters at all, this is a must play.
There really isn't anything I can say that hasn't already been said about DUSK. The levels are consistently well-designed and memorable. The weapons are satisfying and are all quite useful. Not one of them feels useless or out of place. The soundtrack helps to set a good atmosphere (it's also amazing on it's own). Go play it (or get it on sale at the very least). Alsosoap kills anything you throw it at in one hit.
I have not played the game much but the first section of the game was pretty boring but every other level was really fun. I really wish I found this game sooner since it's a cheap, simple and still a fun game.
This game has absolutely blown me out of the water when it comes to expectations. Absolutely play this game if you are a fan of old boomer shooters.
A warning for anyone who wants to play this game.
beat an episode in one sitting, the save system in dusk is broken and 50% of the time will break the games ai
As a fan of all the DOOM games, anything that's inspired by the PS1 era with it's visuals, and horror games, this feels like it was crafted for me for sure. This game is a blast and although it wears it's influences on it's sleeve, this game is awesome and I love everything about it!
Nostalgic, great music, lovely level design. We need more quality games like this one.
I am honestly late for the DUSK train, finally playing it this year (a month ago from writing this). After getting this heavy old school fps kick and playing it 100% I can see why this game is one of true successors of the classics that came before it and this great grimy twist of Blood and Quake.
-The Weapons are addicting to use and almost every weapon has a special use for enemy types and situations.
(The only weapon I personally did not use much was the Sword, for as cool as the gimmick for it was I never had a moment to truly pull it out other than the initial "oh shit a swrd" and used for a level.)
-The level lay outs are fun to traverse, creative combat encounters/scenarios and the secret hunt was rewarding at most and didn't make you feel lost and scratching your'e head.
-The difficulties feel balanced, only dying a handful of times on hard.
Overall a super fun shooter that should be in every shooter/old school fps fans steam collection.
I love DUSK greatly. It's an absolutely excellent FPS game that doesn't get a lot of appreciation nowadays. I think that's sad. Some level concepts here are so interesting and unique. The enemies and stage design all require concentration for different reasons. Mostly because the enemies are predictable but do a lot of damage, even on lower difficulties. And this is probably the fastest run speed in an FPS. Dusk Due must've been an Olympic athlete before becoming a farmer. It makes the game so incredibly fast paced, and the selection of weapons give you so many options in approaching the non-linear, DOOM/90s FPS-like levels. This game isn't just lesser Ultrakill like I thought it would be. They are completely different, being non-linear vs an arena shooter.
Play DUSK. It's great.
